The Extra of The Bad Ending Game

Description

A legendary game with a 99.9% chance of destruction.

I, who was an expert of the game, aimed for the 0.1% happy ending and ended up waking up in it.

And that too, as an extra who is destined to die no matter what!

I was frustrated with the hopeless character I was stuck with.

But then, a strange trait appeared.

It's OK, has good moments but it's not great. I'm on the verge of dropping it despite really liking the heroines.

Pro

    • I'm always happy with "transmigrated into a petty villain" stories.
    • Some of the heroines are fun. Potential harem seems interesting overall.
Con

    • The writing style isn't very good. It looks like the author is padding with useless repetitions. An action is executed, the action is repeated with some flavour text, then it's explained in details in a third repetition. Here an example :"Spatial translocation?" I looked around.

      "Could this be"

"Excellent. Yes, it's spatial translocation magic."

Professor Karen's words turned the teaching assistants expressions sour.

"Pro, Professor! Spatial translocation magic is too dangerous..."

      They were right.

Spatial translocation magic was a very high level and dangerous magic. A small mistake could result in the body being torn to shreds and death. So their reaction was understandable.

Of course once or twice is fine, but every time or almost every time, it's boring to read.
    • I don't like the MC. He's supposed to be transmigrated into a bad person, but after a while he's just as petty as the original character, simply because after all "he's already having a bad reputation". Weird logic.
    • "Smirking", MC seems to like smirking triumphally every few sentences, it's very annoying.
    • The story is too simple. It's basically (so far), "MC is underestimated, he is mocked, then he does the impossible, the peanut gallery is in awe, and MC smirks triumphally". This is fine per se as an idea, but not as the only thing going on. It lacks the spices to make it worth the experience. I expect more than basic Chinese story face slapping levels from such a story.

This is one to stick with. I came very, very close to dropping it at a moment where he acts like a smug cretin, I thought it'd be one of those situations where a guy that didn't have a good personality in our world was isekaid and I don't have any interest in those, I'm big into likeable protagonists. But it turns out him acting like that was just because it's a hidden game stat that involves presence and will be important as the story goes on. Viewed in those... more>> terms his attitude becomes more tolerable. At least it's not as bad as Death Flags because he can actually control what he says. <<less

A story is told from a perspective of a child.

MC possesses an affluent noble, yet speaks to mere dormitory manager as to a figure of higher authority. When you are young, adults seem big, but I read stories about noble society with hopes of seeing politics being involved, so it's a shame.

Coupled with that is a pointless limiter "the story will end if original main character so much as sneezes wrong so I need to dance around him", instead of having full agency.

On top of that the "OH MY GOD... more>> THE YOUNG MASTER WAS RUDE BUT NOW HE SAID THANK YOU I'M GONNNA SHIIIT MYSEELF" cliché is prevalent here, so it's unfortunately not for me. <<less

So this style of 'reborn as talent-less third rate villain who dies early in story' novel has been done to death. However, the thing this author does better than most others, is how they write the interactions between the MC and other characters (mainly girls). They're surprisingly well written and the dialogue is actually pretty humorous, most of the time. It's refreshing to read a proactive MC that doesn't try to avoid story characters and instead makes an effort to amend/strengthen the relationships. Of this novel isn't without flaws. It... more>> has the same fault as a lot of these 'reborn as villain' novels do. The original hero of the story is humble and unambitious, so our villain MC has to go out of his way to force feed the unworthy hero. <<less

Terrible writing style and plot development.

MC transmigrated into a character that is not the protagonist, an extra. This is how a chapter usually goes:

  • He proceeds to do something that, as the protagonist, he has never done before.
  • 70% of the chapter is then wasted explaining why he did what he did, the possible repercussions of the action and other considerations.
  • As you would expected, other characters are surprised by the MC's actions since he has changed.
  • MC, despite knowing that what he did was bound to elicit some reactions, spends like 8 paragraphs being surprised at what he did.
There are also problems with repetition, as pointed out in pomoli's review, but they were quite generous with the rating. Aside from that, the characters feel one-dimensional, and considering the number of clichés, you can... more>> guess how 90% of the developments will unfold, but you still have to go through a dozen paragraphs of telling you how things unfolded, how, and why. <<less

The storyline is pretty generic given its very much the same Isekai into a game/story I've played/read, but instead of becoming the MC, its the 3rd rate villain. Much like a majority of these stories, MC does his best to change everyone's negative perception of him, and improve himself to survive in this world. Much like these stories, he takes advantage of knowing the plot to his advantage, and drags around the OG protagonist and gathering allies to level them up in preparation for the future. Unlike some others of... more>> the similar story type, this MC doesn't shy away from getting involved with the cast and goes out of his way to guide the OG MC to be stronger.

It gets more fun later when the MC slowly realizes that the plot is much deeper than he assumed (given he has never finished the game and only got so far into the story), and there is a lot of details he's overlooked which he becomes involved in.

Some people might find it boring since its overall nothing new, but for those that like this genre, its a fun read to pass the time. It's a harem as well, so those adverse to that should avoid, but for those that enjoy such stories, give it a try. <<less

It just keeps getting better and better. It starts off as a standard scoundrel / medieval-fantasy academy story but the MC is extremely likeable as are all the side characters and heroines. It also avoid a lot of the standard cliches, both academy and scoundrel ones. The MC begins to repair his reputation immediately and other than an initial reaction debuff, him being a scoundrel to start is more an obstacle than an ongoing gag. The humor is solid and diagetic, really coming off as the humor of the characters... more>> in the story and makes you enjoy those characters all the more. The characters are diverse and three dimensional. The powering up is also slow and believable, and everything the MC accomplishes feels pretty earned. Even his knowledge of the world and events to come isn't 100% as he never beat the game he was transmigrated into. This makes surprises and changes in his plans pretty common and the MC does a great job rolling with them. The MC is also quick to adapt to the world and treat it and the people in it as real people.

It's extremely well-done, the translation is solid, and I can't wait for more. <<less
