Shen Qing was infamous in his village as a fierce ger who no one wanted to marry. After being “kicked out” of his home alongside his mother by his biased grandparents and a father who was desperate for a son, he had no choice but to make a living by selling firewood.

One day, while chopping wood in the mountains, he encountered a wild boar. In a panic, he fled into a cave, only to discover that on the other side of the cave was an entirely different world.

This world was overrun with decaying zombies, mutated animals, and strange plants-but what caught Shen Qing’s eye was the shimmering gold, silver, jewelry, antique jade, and luxury watches spread out on a street market stall…

And the price? Just one steamed bun.

Clutching a sack full of buns, Shen Qing swallowed hard. He wasn’t just interested in the treasures at the stall-he also had his eye on the handsome, foolish-looking man squatting behind the table with clear, naive eyes.

Song Kaiji had struggled for nearly a year in the apocalypse, tirelessly searching for his lost family members. Every day, he set up a stall at the flea market, hoping to gather news.

Unexpectedly, a moment of kindness led to an unexpected windfall-not only did someone finally buy the “junk” he’d been hoarding, but he also latched onto a golden thigh (backer), got himself a wealthy sponsor, and soared to the top of his life.

“Everything on this stall-gold, jewelry, jade—all for just two catties of rice! Two catties of rice, and you won’t regret it! Two catties of rice, and you won’t be scammed!”

“What about the stall owner? Are you for sale?”

“Limited edition. Only available for Shen Qing.”

After the rain clears, the sky stretches endless and blue.

Reading Guide:

1. The cave connects two worlds. The protagonist travels between them, with the primary setting in ancient times and the secondary in the apocalypse.

2. Alternate universe. The ancient world consists of three genders: men, ger, and women. The protagonist is a ger, and there will be mpreg (male pregnancy) later.

This is... surprisingly good enough for me to keep reading it without dropping in the middle.

When you take into account of some comment saying about OP MC, easy golden fingers, repetitive plot, etc etc. I was kinda not hoping so much when I start.

But this is unexpectedly good writing and world building.

... more>> I think, major point is explained quite clearly, altho not very detailed. The mesh of ancient with apocalypse setting is truly unfounded before.

Villain is quite easy to handle. Like in apocalypse, it's easy to just kill them. While in ancient times, as long as you have money and giving said money, people will side with you.

MC's golden fingers also looking easy to get. As if things are handed over to him readily. But, think again, what golden fingers was there?

Mainly, money.

Okay, we also got the classic space and spiritual water. But other than that? It's all come from MC's hardwork and personality.

Instead of superficial takes like above, I like how the author write the shift in thinking from MC's perspective. Conforming the ancient norm, disparity between gender, and adaptability.

Altho some part that's worth exploring such as the private school MC build and Chen's definition of ruthless moves. It's not really a big things so it's okay to not delve too much.

ML is likeable. Not cold or super powerful. He also doesn't outshine MC. Tho I may disagree of other saying he act more like MC's subordinate. Because I think underlying trust that gradually formed between them implicitly and explicitly was really good progress of relationship.

.

.

.

Reading this untill the end feels like you watch movies while fast forwarding a few times, pause, go back a bit to make sense the plot. Something like clip by clip or not a whole story.

Still good tho.

There is wedding, some scary and heart pounding moments (seriously, like the time when MC try to bring ML to the cave or when MC give birth), after story, etc etc. Some of them really played with my heartstrings. Almost busting.

Good read. Quite good <<less

I am loving this story so far. This is mainly an ancient world story with a ger MC, with a dash of apocalypse thrown in (ML is from the apocalyptic world). The MC is known as a fierce ger. He had no choice but to become fierce due to his childhood, but he is strong and smart enough to grow as the story progresses. ... more>>
Spoiler

Being starved as a child by the family since he's a useless ger? Go into the mountains and climb trees for eggs and fruit, and follow the local hunter to learn how to hunt and set traps. Get picked on by the local boys? Learn how to fight back, and beat them to where none of them can beat him. Can't win an argument other than using your fists? Learn from the friendly aunties how argue back. People in town discriminate and try to take advantage because you are a ger? Figure out how to pass yourself off as a man, and then use that disguise to learn how to launder money and do business.

[collapse]

Seriously, he's travelling back and forth to an apocalyptic modern world. Trading food for silver and gold. And figuring out real quick how to hide his wealth and make it legit. At this point in the story, he has realized strength = power, whether in his home world or the apocalyptic world. And he's ready to get stronger.

The translation is pretty good, but there were a couple of places prior to chapter 25 where part of the translation was missing based off comparing the MTL... no free chapters after 25 so I don't know if there are future issues. Overall, a fun read that always leaves me wishing for more chapters. The translation team often releases several chapters at once, which is a huge plus. Also, it may look as though some of the newer chapters are skipped in NU, but the chapters are all there in Hololo Novels. <<less

The writing's pretty solid. Even though the story jumps between two different worlds—one ancient and one post-apocalyptic—it doesn't feel like either side gets neglected. The plot stays strong throughout. The characters are well-developed too, not flat at all. They act at their age and/or based on their experience (making some of the MC's plan/knowledge lacking so he seeks guidance).

There are definitely ups and downs, but things do get resolved in the end. What I really enjoyed was how some of the upcoming scenes caught me off guard (some... more>> were unpredictable). <<less

A manly ger! I felt so refreshed everytime MC does something unexpected. MC is super capable, a bona fide strong-willed manly man which I appreciate so much. He protects, he attacks, and most importantly he stands up for himself even in disadvantageous situations.

That said, I didn't give the novel the highest rating precisely because of him. MC suddenly had a lot given to him from the start, so much that the rest of the story became a little lackluster.

If the first 100 chapters made a solid 5star, the later chapters... more>> made me dock 1star off. The world building is really good, everything is good except the dynamics between MC and everyone else.

The MC had so much flare, ML felt more like a side-kick little brother follower. MC was basically doing charity work for the bare minimum transaction and things became predictable after a few repetition. This novel feels similar to ancient times kingdom building troupes where the MCs become the emperor with a one-sided power dynamic where everyone elses are his trustworthy subjects. It just lacks the linear power struggle development because MC is already both the strong fighter and capable strategist.

I enjoyed the first half so much that the rest got increasingly draggy after a while. I'm not saying this makes the novel bad to read, not at all. It's really hard to balance a strong MC within underdevloped worldscapes (one in ancient rural times while the other a delapitaded end of world) so the author deserves loads of credit for trying something new. The swap between two worlds was not jarring and I really enjoyed the extensive world building and let me repeat, the MC is incredible. It was just so convenient for the main cast despite the high risk environment that I got bored reading. (I tend to be pickier with novels that uses troupes I like since I've already read so many.) That said, even though I didn't enjoy the plot as much, I'd highly reccomend people to read it just for the MC. It's so rare to find a ger story with a physically strong MC. <<less

This story gets a lot of credit from me for worldbuilding alone. There are a good number of historical settings and Ger novels out there at this point. It's fairly formulaic with the expected poor-to-rich and faceslapping scenarios. Nothing wrong with that- I'm not bored of the trope yet! But, it does get a bit repetitive.

This story goes beyond that. The MC is looked down on for being too masculine- he's strong and doesn't hesitate to use that when need be. He's clever and perseverent. He challenges the gender norms... more>> of his era and calls out the misogyny. He has a great relationship with his mother and her side of the family. There are positive depictions of female characters!

The apocalypse setting is also interesting, but definitely not the focus. Future hubby comes from that world and so does the ticket to wealth. I'm eager to see it developed more. This is a slower paced novel but well worth the read! <<less

I would like to give this novel and translation 5 stars T>T

This one is very suitable for the taste of strong ger, I am the one!!!! First of the story setting is like with other strong one but the whole setting is on the another level, it can attract readers even when the episodes are long, I read it on sitting, the romance is slow burn though, but building a life is more important, right?

So attractive with intelligence, I also like the setting with relatives, so reasonable and intimate.

Overall, 5... more>> stars from my view, even story is long, I am still eager to read until the end. <<less

Though the current chapters are few, the story is fulfilling and great. It's a new take on the ger in the apocalypse theme.

Instead of a weak ger that only farms in the safety of their homes that cooks well, our MC is very unique, its the first novel I've read with the MC not having any powers except their innate strength. A breath of fresh air if you will.

The world building is good, it established how very different the two worlds are and shows how our MC plans to live... more>> in both. I won't spoil anything much. It's worth the read, I just have to be patient with the chapter releases. Favorite current novel. <<less
