Lin Yu was young and alone as he sought refuge at his uncle’s house. Every day, he had to wake up before dawn to work, barely enough to eat, and there was never any meat to be seen.

As Lin Yu’s appearance grew more handsome, his cousin’s gaze toward him became increasingly inappropriate. When his aunt discovered this, within a couple of days, she married him off to a poor hunter from a neighboring village.

Lin Yu had heard that Wei Qingshan had a bad reputation, so he resigned himself to his fate. He originally thought he was marrying a fierce and difficult man, but on the day of their wedding, when he saw the handsome man, who was nervously standing beside the bed, Lin Yu was momentarily stunned.

Life after marriage wasn’t as hard as Lin Yu had imagined. At least he no longer had to worry about starving, and he wasn’t constantly fearful. Wei Qingshan even spoiled him, not allowing him to do heavy labor, and he was fed an egg every day to keep him well.

The two of them started raising chickens, pigs, bought land, purchased a mule cart, and opened a shop. Their little life was thriving and prospering.

Wei Qingshan was the eldest son in his family, but he was neglected. The little money he had saved was used by his mother to marry off his younger brother. When he became sick, even asking for a bit of money was difficult. Disheartened, Wei Qingshan decided to divide the family.

Rumors spread that he was unlucky, poor, and hadn’t married by the age of twenty. It wasn’t until he married the frail young husband that he realized food was warm, the bed was cozy, and his little husband was soft…

But his little husband was too thin, and when they were in bed together, he didn’t dare to move too much for fear of hurting him. So, he decided to hunt more game and feed his little husband until he grew stronger.

There's some flaws but I enjoyed the time spent reading this novel.

Pros

    • No transmigrated MC, so no overpowered deus ex machina way to making money
    • Villagers relationship are wholesome, not too close but not too distant, people help each other, building trust and goodwill,
    • No big stakes, antagonist are just jealous ppl, in and outside village, bad ppl get their retribution w/o being to dragged, good ppl gradually get opportunities to get better life
    • Show rural people hard work extensively, reading ML doing all physical work at home or at work makes me tired and sympathized him, he really treasure the MC and put his all effort so MC could have a good life
    • Side character have proper screentime and development w/o sidelining the MC, reading their journey are satisfying and makes me happy for them (i.e Sang Niang, Luan ge'er family, Wang family, Shi family at town, Yueyue, etc)
    • Ratio of malicious characters are balanced between gers and women, vice versa the good one are also balance
Cons

    • As in any ancient farming danmeis, the contrast between good and bad people are black and white, no ambiguous nature of humanity, the good ppl have awareness, consciousness, works hard, have empathy, bad ppl have no ounce of good quality whatsoever, have no shame, no brain, no ethics, just wait for their downfall sooner or later.
    • no difference between gers and women (what's new)
    • ML feel like getting sidelined as the story progressed in the last arc,
      Spoiler

he became more passive and just let MC become the family breadwinner as he became some sort of county guard and get monthly salary, it's fine ofc but I prefer their dynamic when making money together.

      [collapse]
    • Nearing the last arc
      Spoiler

are so rushed and out of nowhere, like why'd ML who's so protective of MC accept the apology offer fr MC stepmom family to secure him a position in county, the vibes are completely different from there, there's no careful planning or research like their previous business endeavor just straight dive into the county, thankfully it's not as long and we get to the end not long after that.

      [collapse]
Overall an okay read, it's the first time in years since I finished an mpreg farming danmei, so I'm happy to finish this one, I recommend
