Arc 1: Chapter of the Tongue

Xie Xishu didn’t know when it started, but he could always feel a strong gaze from behind him.

He couldn’t understand why Qi Wu kept staring at him like that. Even without turning around, he could feel that almost tangible gaze.

Xie Xishu was the class’s famous bookworm, while Qi Wu was known as the school’s notorious troublemaker. There shouldn’t be any intersection between them.

Yet, Qi Wu would always stare at him during class.

Eventually, even after class and after school, Xie Xishu would find a tall, gloomy figure trailing behind him.

When Xie Xishu finally broke down and grabbed Qi Wu in an alley, demanding an answer out of fear, he got a completely unexpected response.

“You’re sweet. You keep giving off a very sweet scent.”

Qi Wu replied in a strange tone.

“I can barely hold back anymore. Everything else stinks so much it’s driving me mad. Only you smell sweet… Hey, don’t worry. I won’t eat you.”

“I just want to lick you.”

Perhaps Qi Wu himself didn’t realize that when he made that absurd request, he was already uncontrollably drooling foul saliva at Xie Xishu.

At the same time, Xie Xishu clearly saw that inside Qi Wu’s lips, which stretched all the way to his ears, there were rows of densely packed, fishhook-like teeth… and a long, forked tongue.

That tongue wavered in the air, twitching nimbly, and with thick saliva, it pressed against Xie Xishu’s neck.

“Mmm… So sweet… $#@%! So sweet…”

The unfamiliar monster let out a murky sigh.

At the moment Xie Xishu screamed and fled, he didn’t know that in the not-so-distant future, he would encounter more twisted and frenzied monsters.

And in that sudden apocalypse, the only one who could protect him was Qi Wu.

The price Xie Xishu had to pay, of course, was to let Qi Wu’s tongue be satisfied.

[Modern Apocalyptic Theme]

Literally “tasty” uke X unhinged, half-mad mutant seme who just wants to lick him.

I loved the first ark, but I was so incredibly disappointed when it just stopped. I don’t mind multiple stories, but I just feel like it could’ve been so much more it could’ve been a longer story that was about you know they’re survival and their improvement strength and they’re deep in compassion for each other

1st story: I really enjoyed the chemistry that the MC and the ML had at the start, however, I wished I had seriously listened to the other two first reviewers and mentally prepared myself for how hellish the end felt.

Spoiler

So basically, I guess the main character was in so much dispair from his parent's death that he allowed himself to be consumed by the ml's desire for him, like literally getting "digested" which had truly transformed the ml's to his final stage of form, a true monster devoid of his human rationality now with the main character consumed into his body.

It might've also been because of the fact that I've always preffered HE but this BE just felt so dreadful I hated it so much despite being fully aware of the story's intentions

[collapse]

It was still a great story despite my repulsion towards the ending, but still wished that ending wasn't this upsetting.

Spoiler

But I guess in a sense, they both got what they wanted.

[collapse]

2nd story: Compared to the first one, I have a lot of good things about this to say.

Spoiler

It had more of supernatural creepy ghost theme which was what I preffered and expected originally compared to the first story taking an apolocolyptic theme.

[collapse]

Although the ML here was way more extreme and yandere compared to the first one.
Spoiler

TW: MC was r*ped by the ML's original body while he was sleeping, as well as MC getting persuaded into committing su*cide.

[collapse]

Anyways, still a great read with the many actions and circumstances that the main character had to face.
Spoiler

Despite the many extreme things that had happened in this story, I was glad and happy that it at least had a HE where the main characters at least got to be together, even if the ML is in another person's body hiding his true self, you can tell they truly love each other even though many extreme things that had happened

[collapse]

None of these two arcs is for the weak hearted especially the second one if you hate toxic dynamics of coercions and manipulation in a relationship.

3rd story: Took me a while to get started, and when I did, I've mentally prepared myself considering the my past two experiences. However, I was still not ready for the stuff the came. I am now convinces that the author is an extreme sadist. To me, the first two story now seems to be nothing compared to this, truly an eye-opening experience of the extend that the author's ability is capable of in traumatising their readers. I will definitely need therapy after this cause this is one of the best but also worst experience of a read I went through.
Spoiler

Although we all our spectrum when it comes to whatever gets us fearful and traumatised, the last story was just dreadful.

[collapse]

Spoiler

Literally not a single person 'fully' survives and even MC's one friend who managed escape came back years later only have one year left of living, ready to depart life despair and hopelessness.

[collapse]

Spoiler

The ending, which was right after the friend's monologue was also basically your worst possible nightmare kind of ending where death would be considered the mercyful ending for the main characters as well as the readers cause all that's left are the bits of fragments of the MC during his death and the ml's worm forms along with their offsprings ready to destroy the world.

[collapse]

Still another great arc overall if you have the nerve of steels and the heart of iron and focus on the great plot build up, I personally liked the mc's complexity of characterisation.

Spoiler

You can tell that how he descends into madness as the story goes by then going into numbness with that remaining resentment towards the ML that never seems to cease until he was left in that bits of fragments of his formal self. It seemed that before he even came to the village, the formal self of the ML's obsessive actions truly messed him up, and the night that the ML r*ped him was when he truly lost it and accidentally killed the ML.

[collapse]

Spoiler

The MC genuinely despises to the point where he attempts to kill the ML multiple times after the first time happened and it gets quite normal at some point. The dark layers and depths of the MC could be seen where it's even scaring the friend. It was also later revealed that he didn't actually want the ML to come back from that well, he just wanted an excuse to cover up his 'accidental' killing. This was why he could mercilessly bring himself dismember the ML's body into pieces.

[collapse]

Honestly, every single MCs in this story are literal monster and disaster magnets but overall, none of this story should be read before you prepare yourself for the worst, although the second story was a bit better off. <<less

Not rating this yet since I haven’t finished reading everything. As of Chapter 39 though, I’d give it 5 stars.

The premise about satisfying ML’s tongue in the summary for some reason made me think it was going to be humorous 💀. And it does have its humorous moments but the horror aspect took up most of the early chapters. After the start though, the sweet moments are truly sweet, if, albeit, ... with a touch of creepiness. Since, y’know, one is no longer human.

some spoilers about sweet moments I like... more>> so far

Spoiler

MC had this nightmare making him think he was the source of the apocalypse and there was gonna be angst about it since he was avoiding ML. The ML thought it was because he was afraid and fair, their initial interactions were that of a stalker and stalked, erm. you get the idea. However, it was resolved really quickly and some part of that is due to ML blurting out and asking how he would be able to date MC if he (mc) is scared? that silenced both of them. Flabbergasted.

ML blushing because he might like the MC... which is atypical of BL novels so I always appreciate it when the author emphasized that ML’s blushing :>

[collapse]

for the named school side characters

Spoiler

damn, shouldve not gotten attached to his seatmate, no one there survives, also rip guy who tried to help the MC initially in the pharmacy, wouldnt wish being a singular whole family unit on anyone

[collapse]

anyways, i’ll go back and add my rating when im done.

Also, the chapters are long. Don’t let the chapter count fool you into thinking this is short.

Read this if ur hankering for a modern apocalyptic novel where instead of zombies you get (prly biological... ?) mutants, mystery (abt the source of the mutation), blushy ML, visceral description of being digested + yum delish organs (rip cannon fodders lvl up material) (
Spoiler

err MC too... prly literal? author blurred the line between dream and reality, I personally think he got digested 💀

[collapse]
), the mls scent kink (actually, he just really really wants to be one with the MC, not the yellow kind unfortunately...), and tender moments amidst the literal apocalypse. Oh, yandere thoughts too. <<less

Objectively, this story is really quite good as a horror story. It had more body horror than I expected, and it truly, like the author says, shows the love of monsters. It tells us how their love is greedy and possessive, and shows us that it doesn't always have a true good ending. The first two stories are merry bad ends (but if you squint, the 1st one is a good end lol), and the last, well, is a bad end, I suppose?

However, personally, I feel that this is really... more>> despairing, as someone who prefers good ends, haha, like what's gonna happen to the world afterwards? Like, I love the possessiveness of the gongs, but I can't deny that their worlds are totally doomed. Those weak of heart should not proceed, haha, or they can just read the first story. That one was most to my tastes, and it seemed like they truly fell in love, despite whether it was influenced or not.

I feel that like ResidentalP says, the spoilers are actually not correct. If I'm right, the end of the first story actually is more of
Spoiler

MC creating monster offspring with the ML, and dooming humanity, cos MC, was as that crazy man said, 'a human, yet also a monster, a monster but also human', created by his parents in an attempt to both get humans to evolve to not let humans become extinct and to not let him die from being so sickly. The apocalypse was due to him being in his breeding period, making him unconsciously transform people around him into monsters to make strong offspring. This is also why he gave off such a sweet smell that no one could resist. So technically it's a merry bad end, as they are sorta in 'love' but well the world's doomed.

[collapse]

The second one... err
Spoiler

the guy ends up with the 'mirror immortal' dude. Like I got tricked by the spoilers and thought MC actually ended up with Li Bo, but nope. It's the vengful spirit which everyone thought the MC managed to kill, but actually broke it's constraints, the mirror. It took over Li Bo's body and is living happy as can be, haha. You can see that 'Li Bo's had a thin, mirror-like crack-like pattern faintly flickering on his iris at the end. I feel bad for Li Bo, Aunt Qian and Li Chen. Like imagine ur in Li Bo's shoes. Basically forced into the Li family by his mom, then after being saved by his mom, being told that she regretted doing so, then after being in that loveless family, u find that ur lil bro had it worse and has half gone mad. U try to help him protect the person he liked after his death, to ignore the fact that ur bro was very much stalking and obsessed with the MC, after what he went through, but in the end u fail and u are forced to see the mirror immortal being in your body. U are possibly being trapped for eternity watching him in your body pretend to be you with the MC, who you have half fallen for. As for Aunt Qian, she did so much to help Li Bo and his mom, but instead they are all dead. And as for Li Chen, imagine you're being ab*sed as a child, and there is just one person, the light of your life, who helps you despite his own circumstances. Then, you get dragged away to the Li family, and all you want is to go back. In the Li family, they throw you to suffer in the cold, dark basement for a year or two, where the only thing inside is a mirror, and you then get half taken over by the demon your family is raising. So now, he sees Siguang too and wants to drag him down to be his. Your sickening grandparents also want you to have more children to sacrifice to the demon before you die, but since you refuse, they put a death curse on the MC. So, although you can finally see the light of your life again, you have to act cold to him, and you make a deal to the demon to give all you have to him in return for him not touching the MC, and you have to die as part of the deal. But that ass doesn't keep his promise, and so you struggle as a remnant ghost to help the MC in getting out of his clutches. But in the end MC still got tricked ahhh, even tho you helped him get out of the underworld...

[collapse]

The 3rd story... is kinda the most icky to thos who hate worms and such. This is the one with the least romance, as
Spoiler

the MC alr hates the original body of ML due to him forcing himself on MC. MC used a lot of methods and finally escaped to the countryside. But original body of ML followed him there, becoming ML when he died. ML took over ori ML's memories and feelings, and also took over everyone in the village as food cos he wants to bring MC underground and make him his breeding nest. He technically loves MC, but MC doesn't rly like him. The end is that MC gave himself up to ML to let a friend leave safely, and err after 40 years the friend bought the place and is trying to destroy it to contain the monsters, but... welp, him and the kids are too strong now... haha

[collapse]

Please don't read what's above unless you wanna know like the whole storyline (mainly the 2nd story), cos I went a lil overboard with the spoilers, haha <<less

Might not be for ones who aren't keen for body horror and insects horror (yes this is a warning cause it's that gross). Tho I really appreciate the horror aspects and the hopelessness this 3 arcs are. I have been reading a bad track record where the horror in a yaoi genre felt rather lackluster which while I don't mind does feel let down for the horror feels. Hence while gross as it is, the story is well thought out.

And yes there are 3 arcs here the full summery is... more>> at the translation site so if you are curious go check it out. And really all 3 are pretty good in my opinion, but arc 1 stands out still for the unique setting and well the ending is haunting. If I were to rank the arcs from best to least it'll be 1>3>2 mainly by how they are executed and their endings. Granted the bugs are gross but I like the implications that the story are somewhat connected. That said if you do like horror, better not read while eating. <<less

The Feast of Filth is an incredibly creative novel that stands out with its originality and unpredictability. Unlike many stories that rely on repetitive tropes, each arc in this novel introduces fresh twists and turns, keeping me on edge. The world-building is very immersive, drawing me into the unique setting of each story while exploring different forms of love between the protagonists.

It can be a hard read for some, as it leans heavily on psychological elements and doesn’t explicitly state what happens in each story. This approach enhances the horror,... more>> making each revelation feel more unsettling as it slowly unravels. The novel rewards careful reading, immersing you in its eerie atmosphere while leaving room for interpretation. I hope everybody gives it a chance and I really recommend this horror novel. <<less

This is the best horror web novel I've come across in a while. As shown in the genres, it is very much a horror/psychological series with no romance or fluff. The stories aren't about scary events that a lovey-dovey couple gets through to reach happy endings no matter what--this is a genuine horror series and not a romance with horror elements. Arguably, there is no romance at all. The author does an excellent job layering one horrific reveal after another, and the book was hard to put down.

The third story... more>> is the most traumatic.

You may want to note that the MC and ML are different people in each story rather than reincarnations, transmigrators, or other fated beings.

I recommend ignoring the spoiler endings in other reviews since some of the reviewers didn't think critically about what's going on. Unlike many web novels, The Feast of Filth requires the readers to think and use a little bit of brain power. The story does not spell things out clearly but lives enough hints and information for the readers to think about afterword and interpret on their own. It'd be fun to read each part of the story with friends and then discuss it on a forum to figure out what really happened and clear your thoughts. As I said, some of the reviewers here did not make every connection with the hints provided and seemed to miss out on key details that dramatically change the interpretation of what really happens.

The stories are focused on their plots and driven by the settings. The character-establishing moments are done well, and so is their character development. The imagery is great, albeit often disgusting.

I strongly recommend this series. <<less

so basically at the end of arc 1 the ML consumes the MC and basically succumbs to being a monster bruh I thought it was a metaphor or some shi, though it was consensual I hated it the struggle to survive over the past 40 lor more long ass chapters was just for nothing wtf The ML kept struggling to stay human just to end up as a monster in the end....

[collapse]

now at the 2nd arc I basically skimmed it after finding out that chen wasnt the ML like near the end I was scrolling faster just to see his name but I did finish it
