I liked the job of imperial concubine, but this novel is better. It is a little bit long of course and no emperor would actually behave this way. Favoring one woman is not a way people lived then. But novel is awesome. Especially MC. She is one of my favourite. Cold blooded and strong.

it's like "the job of an imperial concubine" specially majority of the scenes early in the story. It's too similar! With just a few different things happening here and there. But I still insist of reading and omg? It gradually move to an very interesting plot different from TJOAIC.

i like the MC, she is not a push-over and she really fights for herself but also returns kindness if others are kind to her too. The way she firmly hooked the emperor... more>> to her only is soo good and the unexpected friendship of her and her enemies from the start but they eventually turn to her side is chef's kiss. Overall, I really love it. <<less

The novel is your typical harem reincarnation drama and revolves around the idea of a capable FMC reincarnted into the imperial harem and the story of her climbing her way up through intrigues, schemings and etc.

Pro:

    • Interesting premise, good start at the beginning of the novel
    • Palace intrigues, for those who love that genre (although not too sophisticaed or mysterious)
    • Easy read, not too complicated or deep, it doesn't make you cry your eyes out or question life
Cons

    • Translation is bad, very bad. For anyone who cannot stand it, stay away. It is not just a few typos, but names are being mixed constantly, titles often change and descriptions make no sense
    • Qick pace, plots started and ended in three chapters, not able to give it much depth
    • Rely too much on the premise of psychologist, which is used as plot armour to explain everything
    • The development of the plot seemed indecisive, for example, one minute it is explained that emperor is in love, then he just lets her believe he is in love; one minute the original character was s*upid and arrogant and later on, it is mentioned that she grew up to be smart and scheming in her childhood

      This got resolved later in the final chapter, but it kinda shows that the author just used the extra chapters as cop-out to tie loose ends

Edit. I've muddled through. I just need to turn my brain off, indefinitely while reading. It gets better but the MC is not beating the Mary-Sue allegations. The feminist propaganda in this was unbelievably unrealistic for a historical novel. And the romance got a little too feminized I guessed. I don't know how to explain it. I guess the moral of the story is that men can get tamed like dogs.

1. It's starting to lag, like a lot. Or maybe I'm just not that into it anymore.

2. The difference between... more>> this novel and let's use Ying Chong is Pan'er loves the Emperor and he loves her back but the times they live in just doesn't allow him to be monogamous and let her solely monopolize his favor mostly because the harem was a way to balance out the different powers in court and also a safeguard for her and the kids, the tallest tree is the one most likely to stand out and the first to be cut down.

This ML started with that mindset but is now reverting into a stereotypical written by a 12yo, hating everyone around him while only loving MC, tolerating his kids while overly loving MCs child. Then he acts surprised when MC is being constantly schemed against. It's your own fault my guy.

3. MC started out great. She reminded me of many other MC that are reborn in this genre but in these last few chapters, she's being s*upid. I understand she's trying to be the most favored consort to ever live but she's not thinking of the fallout of having such a title. I won't go into details. But she's being schemed against and honestly, she's a Mary-sue, most of the damaging schemes are magically discovered by her in time for her to make counter schemes and retaliate. It's her own fault that she's being so heavily schemed against since she decided on a whim to monopolize the emperors favor, she's made herself and everyone affiliated with her persona non grata.

I'll probably skim till I reach the end because I'm already in too deep but I've lost hope of reading a good historical novel. Hopefully she doesn't develop super healing next or a space. <<less

I really enjoyed the story and how the plot developed. I liked her ambition—she was strong-willed and skilled in planning and strategy. I also understood why she remained cautious around the emperor and only fully gave him her heart at the very end, once everything had stabilized. However, it was unpleasant to read that he had slept with other women—I found that part quite off-putting.

The story was tense, with intriguing Sherlock Holmes-like elements, which made it very engaging. Still, I think it could have been a bit shorter, with more... more>> side stories set in the modern era instead. Their relationship did develop, but they never really had the chance to relax and enjoy their time together due to all the scheming. In the modern timeline, they would have had more space to truly be with each other. <<less

Brilliant novel it has all the schemes and realistic characters that you could imagine in imperial harem rather than only pink world and story telling

it’s not fluffy as I wished it to be unfortunately but highly recommend it

Two sisters in the harem, rivals instead of sisterly bonds, main FL has higher title, starts off with her being punished for being s*upid and offending higher ups, quickly regains emperor’s attention, even the first official night feels like a copy and paste from TJOAIC.

If I had read this before the higher quality novels, it wouldn’t be too bad, but it reads like a low quality, comedic version of TJOAIC. Kinda like when you copy homework, and switch it up a bit so it’s not too obvious (except it is, since I’m only 4 chapters in and it feels like fan-fic). <<less
