One day, towers suddenly appeared all over the world.

Along with the emergence of climbers, known as the “New Humans,” imagination turned into reality.

Ten years have passed since the world was struck by unprecedented chaos.

Now, it is an era where people are accustomed to the presence of towers, and there was a man living in this world.

A man living an ordinary life, uninterested in climbers or towers, which seemed to have no connection to him.

His only joy in life was watching VTuber broadcasts as a hobby, a typical otaku.

Moreover, he was also a clipper who edited those VTuber videos.

Then one day, out of the blue—

He suddenly found himself becoming the very VTuber he had created for a viewer participation broadcast.

This is a rather interesting blend of themes. If you like VTuber's and Towers, this might be for you. The protagonist (male) is an avid clipper of VTuber's and even has a Fox God avatar (female) primarily for the purpose of viewer participation. They do not consider themselves a VTuber however. His actions on supporting countless VTubers in various ways (Clipping, donating, music production etc) was significant enough that when the tower awakened him, he became the Fox God avatar. One problem though, for a certain reason, as the Fox... more>> God, they'll die if they don't climb a tower. Hence, this story is about a VTuber otaku, becoming the Fox God Avatar, climbing a tower whilst becoming a true Vtuber simultaneously, and most importantly, their number one priority is continuing to support their favourite VTubers (The story references quite a few VTubers so the author is clearly knowledgeable about them).

Anyhow, their actions shake the real world by progressing the tower, as well as the virtual world because any VTuber they visit get's an immediate boost in viewership. It is also interesting to see things from the perspective of the viewers in the form of comments/forum posts; such as them starting to think that this clipper turned tower climber is truly a Fox God and it's not just some made up setting.

The gender bending aspect of this story is in no way intrusive, so even people who dislike this genre can read this. If you are wondering "why was it necessary?", honestly, it was probably just easier and more believable to write a story with a protagonist that was male, because it seems most viewers of VTuber are male (quick google search says 80% according to Hololive). However, as explained in the early chapters, it also serves a story purpose to explain why he did not become a VTuber himself and stuck to clipping.

Overall, I see potential in this story. It will be interesting to see how their abilities related to VTubing and tower climbing continue to grow whilst balancing the hobby of supporting VTubers. <<less

I see a few reviews saying this isn't very good. Personally, I really enjoy it.

To the people complaining about the lack of seriousness in the novel: My brother in Christ, it's a slice-of-life novel with an OP vtuber protagonist. The only sense of crisis you will ever get are in the fight scenes.

This is one of those novels that you should turn your brain off for. In a sense, it's basically the anime equivalent of cute girls doing cute things so you shouldn't come with any expectations. It's a light-hearted... more>> novel with dialogue-focused scenes with the inclusion of chat messages and donos. The scenes aren't very descriptive of where they are at a given moment but you can usually find out using context clues. It's not nearly as bad as some other works I've read, which are highly rated here but barely legible.

Action scenes are vivid when they need to be and the illustrations of characters are very well done.

I think the characters could be fleshed out more and given more depth. The story is definitely light-hearted but it should be considering the absurd concept.

My complaint with the novel is that it lacks direction and urgency as it gives some foreshadowing, but the MC never plans further than "Oh, I'll be doing this today and that tomorrow." Which is disappointing, I expected a meal only to be given McDonald's: It's good, but not filling.

I'd say that you should treat this as junk food to have while waiting for other novels to cook and stack up chapters. <<less

Before reading, keep in mind that if you're interested in this novel, go ahead and read it, this review is just my opinion about it and not an absolute fact.

Also, this review contain mild spoilers.

Now, into the review.

... more>> This is bad.

Honestly, I didn't come expecting a masterpiece and won't mind if the story wasn't serious but what I read was... something.

Premise:

The premise is that the world is the typical modern fantasy tower climbing setting (towers appearing, people climbing them), with the difference being that the towers seem more friendly toward humanity (allowing free entry and exit for climbers, i.e.) but not overly so. In the midst of this world, there is the MC who is a clipper obsessed and solely focused on Vtubers, he even has a 2D model that he uses during his small streams. However, one day he suddenly awakens (becomes a climber, someone who climbs the towers) and becomes a Vtuber (his avatar becomes his body, and his background/ concept as a fox goddess serves as the explanation for his statuses and some of the rewards he gets).

So far, it's interesting. His body is made of mana, so he needs to replenish it if he doesn't want to die, which is the force that compels him to climb the tower.

1st critic:

However, things take a turn after you read more than 10 chapters. You start to notice that the MC is very, very st*pid – there are several stances where the MC complains that he doesn't have an attack skill, however, every time he got to choose a skill, he picked something nonsensical and Vtuber-related, ignoring the attack skills that were essential for tower climbing, the worst part is that this happens in the lower floors. The thing is that if you take off the veil that is "this is a novel", you start to notice that the MC makes some very st*pid and almost unrelatable decisions, because if you look at it as someone from inside the novel, a normal dude awakened, became time-limited, and is forced into the tower if he wants to live to see his Vtubers's events, and in such scenario, he has the choice of picking an attack skill, support skills or one related to his job (recording from inside the dungeon), and he chooses to pick the recording – this is something that repeats itself a few times, becoming a bother (at least to me), since the MC complains he doesn't have an attack skill in several chapters.

2nd critic:

Another point is the MC's personality. To put it simply, the MC has little to no personality.

The MC is addicted to Vtubers and things related to them and this is basically his whole personality. He babbles about Vtubers most of the time, which in itself isn't bad, but it becomes annoying when for several chapters and paragraphs, he repeats how he values Vtubers, how he isn't ready to be one of them, how he is unfit for this job etc.

It honestly becomes annoying because everything revolves around Vtubers and that is it.

3rd critic:

The main problem of this novel isn't anything grand, instead, it's a simple thing – this novel proposes seriousness but doesn't take itself seriously.

The concept of the MC being time-limited works well for him to climb the tower, his addiction to Vtubers works well for him to enter the industry (albeit half-forced), and the way he behaves and some of the rewards he gets works for everyone to misunderstand his concept as reality.

But it all kinda falls apart when you add how st*pidly the MC behaves, even when his survival is concerned – not even in a "ah, I'm so calm" way, no, it's just him making st*pid decisions because he likes Vtubers, plainly as that.

Basically, this novel seems not to know what it wants to be (?), it has comedy and light-hearted moments most of the time but the serious aspects aren't taken seriously because of the MC.

For example:

Spoiler

He goes to fight a chinese assassin and a way he rationalizes the situation is that he dislikes how China forces their Vtubers to reveal their real identities, so the MC will fight to protect the Vtubers...

P.S: There's more to this situation but this is basically the short version.

[collapse]

It's moments like those that makes the MC unrelatable, at least for me.

But all in all, this novel can be good to pass time if you are interested in it. <<less

The protag is an idiot. Which can be funny, but the joke kind of drags on.

I like the idea. It's fun.

The issue is that there's a horribly disappointing amount of description. Most of the story is just line of dialogue followed by line of dialogue. It's so lacking that often I can't tell who on earth is talking. Maybe the original language makes it easier to tell due to word choice. But in English it doesn't fly like that.
