“Welcome to Apocalypse Cub Raising Game”

Shen Cheng downloaded a game called “The Last Survivor.”

The protagonist is a pitiful little man with broken hands and feet, dying alone amid a pile of corpses. Shen Cheng really couldn’t stand it anymore. “Isn’t it six yuans! Who hasn’t spent game money before?” Then one six yuan, two six yuan, and lots and lots of six yuans!

While Shen Cheng was cursing and scolding herself that she will never spend money on game coins anymore, the protagonist of the game gradually ascended to the peak of the Apocalypse.

When she woke up one day, she actually appeared next to the little character’s bed?

Forceful dog game, game coins harms me!

***

Spatial ability user Li Weilan crawled out from a heap of dead bodies. He felt like he was being watched by a pe*vert. This person forcibly changed his clothes, went in and out of his space at will, and stared at him while he sleeps.

However, it was also this person who gave him the most advanced scientific and technological weapons in the last days, created the safest paradise for him, and gave him something he longed for the most… a home.

as is usual for this genre, it starts out pretty addicting, but once you figure out the mystery is gets pretty boring pretty fast. The plot always falls apart at the end and there is never a really satisfying conclusion (almost like the author forgets what the novel was about in the begining). It's worth a read. Nothing too special.

Anyway....

I love it!

I love every chapter, I read with relished without feeling bored

I didn't even realised I finished reading, and stunned for few second

I always love this kind of genre,

Apocalypse + system + QQ game + HE

I was like, where have you been in my liffeeeee~~~

The only problem is its too short, I need moreeeeeeeee~~

*sob sob*

Below comment may contain Spoiler, continue if you dont mind.

Lets talk about the MC

Shes a pushover and easy to bully kind of girl, over time she playing the game, she learn and change to better

Theres character development, I love it

About the ML

Hes a black bellied and sly person (well how can he not, he live in a apocalypse world, where the human are more dangerous and cruel than the zombies), BUT he never trick or manipulate her, his every decision related to the MC will ask for her opinion first, he might be a annoying char at first cause he didn't trust the MC who suddenly give him kindness for free (be patient with him, since he have lots of dark passed of being betrayed and cruel experiment).

Hes not perfect, but at the same time he is perfect.

I dont know how to explain this, yes he might have some flaws, this make him seems more human, but for a human like me, he is a perfect 'human' boyfriend. You get it? Lol

In short, go read if you want to know

This is great so far! If you are a fan of the unique niche of the MC raising her love interest in a cub simulation game, you absolutely can't miss this! And, if you haven't tried it before, give it a look. It's a wonderful concept to have the FL spoil the ML to death before he even gets to know who she is!

I'll update this review once it's done being translated!

Ending really tanks this one. Also that description/synopsis is really bad. Nothing in the story unfolds that way (other than her changing his clothes with a click). It's also far more of a romance story than it is an Apocalypse story.

The MC is Shen Cheng, a young woman who downloads a game where she gets to "raise" a boy in an Apocalyptic world. Soft-hearted and gentle, she is very much a push over at first but gradually becomes a stronger individual. This character growth is helped along by watching the... more>> ML act in certain ways. She's an orphan with shitty uncles. Honestly, most of her life seems fairly shitty so it's understandable why she would have become addicted to playing a game like the Apocalypse one.

Spoiler

Her parents died when she was young and her grandparents swindled her out of the house they owned. Then she was verbally (and potentially physically) ab*sed by the family before leaving after her grandfather said she was the reason her parents died.

[collapse]

The ML is Li Weilan, a human with a space with a back story with all the things. He's cold and distant to everyone but begins warming up to the MC. Especially when she makes an effort to help him out in the game (all while thinking she is just helping her game character). He begins to fall in love with his invisible helper and gets genuinely upset when she refers to herself as his mother.

Spoiler

When I say his backstory has all the things, I really do mean that. The MC rescues him from death where he was bound by rope by people. At first that makes it seem like he was betrayed by his teammates at the time. Then as the story progresses, we learn that he hates "Dawn Light" which is a special potion that can help prevent people's powers from going beserk. Reason being is that Dawn Light was made from him (we never really learn how, just that it involves torture).

Going back further, he was betrayed by his best friend's girlfriend which had him sent to be a human guinea pig and for his friend to commit su*cide as penance for the girl's actions. Even further back and of course, he's an orphan who had to work hard for everything he gained. That he has never had anyone treat him like he was important.

[collapse]

The story begins with the MC playing the game on her phone and encountering the ML's "cutesy" avatar. She immediately begins to call him her cub and wants to do her best to take care of this little game character. Nearly everything she does in the game world is super effective (only one thing goes wrong the entire time she makes decisions) while also helping her figure out ways to deal with her own problems in her world.

Spoiler

Creepy Landlord taking pictures of her, stealing her underwear and trying to get her into prostitution. She ends up manipulating the situation so that he goes to jail and she gets to move out.

Then there is her roommate who has been opening the MC's mail and bringing back her boyfriend to their apartment. The MC frightens her before moving out again.

Then her grandfather dies and her uncles try to force her to sign a document to give up her inheritance rights.

[collapse]

The base that they create is super powerful with technology far more advanced than anything on Earth. At first, it seems like the base is going to help them be a bit more choosey about who gets to come in but it really only boils down to the MC being able to determine "Friendly", "Neutral" and "Hostile" characters (and some stats once they were at Friendly). Like a "Shelter" game, certain buildings only become usable after a person is placed inside it so she often drags and drops on her game screen which never fully explains what the other characters experience. Just a "my job changed" and that's it.

While there are some zombie fights and dealing with people from other bases, that side of the story is fairly lacking. Most of it seems to revolve around the base building or the MC and ML interacting with one another. The story clearly sets up where the villain is from early on in the story (kind of ham-fistedly at points) but then the ending just comes across as bonkers.

Spoiler

The villain was the head of the research facility who wanted to look into sending the zombies to another world (or that he wanted to travel there himself, it's kind of hard to fully tell). Up until that point in the story, there has been no mention that this guy suspected an alternate reality. In fact, it would have made more sense for him to suspect aliens. Especially since the initial zombie virus came from a meteorite.

The villain does get to go to the MC's world but without any powers and in a highly crippled but still alive state. Which is kind of fitting in that he did do what he sought to do but ended up powerless in this new world.

And then the MC and ML begin reality hopping between his world and hers.... and potentially remain in her peaceful non-polluted world for the rest of their lives. It never really tells beyond the ML proposing marriage.

[collapse]

Outside that, I did enjoy the majority of the story. The interactions were rather cute but then there would be characters that were only important for a hot minute and then completely forgotten (such as the girl the ML wanted revenge against).

Despite my rating of 4 on this, I genuinely feel that it's not one I would recommend unless you want a strange take on the Apocalypse. <<less

This was so good I even had to go and fight for my life and lose sleep trying to make sense of MTL.

My only wish right now is for an English TL to pick it up so all the parts I couldn't understand will be readable. With MTL the mystery was kind of wobbly (because I couldn't understand whole sentences) but ultimately everything got their happy ending. Including the side character pairing I was shipping as soon as I saw them. One of the only stories that had me wishing... more>> for extras and I'm a person that usually skips extras.

Pretty good! I liked that the story had a lot of events and was fairly concise. It didn't feel as much as if the author was writing a ton of filler to waste my time.

I also liked that the MC (who is female) had her moments and had a "powerful avatar" so she didn't need rescuing from the ML all the time unlike in other novels.

Spoiler

I loved it when she knocked out the ML because she was afraid that he'd get hurt and accomplished a bunch of tasks herself

[collapse]

A few things were a bit unbelievable

Spoiler

the author tried to make it obvious how the ML "realized" that the girl was viewing his world like through the lens of a game, but it still felt like there were a ton of logic leaps that he had to make for that conclusion... definitely not convincing enough.

The resolution with the system too was a bit too handwavy... it was okay to take a back seat as the rest of the story was okay.

The reason for Zombie Emperor Fu's actions were also a bit disbelieving - I thought he felt guilt and was trying to be a good guy, creating an unknown alliance with the evil guy and trying to infect another (innocent (world was not explained properly

[collapse]

And sometimes the author would forget what was written before

Spoiler

For example, MC had already told her RL friend that she had a boyfriend, but near the end of the novel, her friend asks the MC if she had a bf acting all surprised.

[collapse]

And finally in the epilogue - guys and gals please remember that what was written in the epilogue is wrong and lab synthesized diamonds are molecularly identical to "mined diamonds." Why are they cheaper? Because the diamond industry doesn't want to lose their profits and pay $$$$ on marketing and lobbying to make it seem like lab diamonds are worse. Remember, diamonds are one of the worst investments you can make and even a "mined" diamond loses more than half its value the moment it exits a store because of how falsely inflated "diamond" prices are in the market. <<less

I'd recommend this for those who like the genre as I found it to be a mostly enjoyable read. I would rank it higher but the later parts with the science labs just didn't sit right with me.

The romance between the two main leads is sweet and wholly consensual which is nice. The base building stuff was genuinely enjoyable and the game part was inoffensive as a whole compared to others of the same genre.

Only 4 chapters available, but I'll give it a solid 5 so far. It's really too early to say much, but I was drawn to this because I liked another novel that had a similar plot of a modern FL "raising" a game character. I like the world building, the gaming elements to overcome situations, and the slow bond that grows, among other things. I don't know much about FL or ML yet. It seems like it'll be a fun read to pass the time. The translation is good. I'll... more>> edit if my opinion changes, but interesting so far. <<less

Recommended only if you're looking for a light read and not minding plot holes...

The story at the beginning is good but halfway it's kinda abruptly dropped, mainly when
Spoiler

Fu Yanzhou went back to the enemy's lab or when FL failed to rescue him... It's doesn't make any sense when the villain let her go after Fu Yanzhou order them to let her go in exchange of himself...

[collapse]

At that point, I only continue read for the sake of knowing how their happy end would looks like...

I enjoyed the beginning of the story thanks to the superb translation.

Basically an apocalypse story with some game elements in it. FL is playing a game with the ML as the main character in an apocalypse and she builds a base for him. Initially she thinks its just a game and tries to level up but along the way realizes that she likes the ML, a 2D character to her, develops feelings and strives to improve the quality of life for the ML.

The game that she plays is kind of... more>> like the Fallout Shelter mobile game. Underground base where you save enough gold coins to open up new rooms, drag people to places they're supposed to be, generate electricity and water for the base... Reminds me of the time when I played Fallout Shelter lol. I really liked the base building part.

However, later on there is evil researchers, a lot of evil people bullying others, evolution of the zombies - all those tropes start popping up.

Unfortunately the author is not really great at explaining things. Sometimes I feel like the author cut short certain paragraphs and leaves me confused as to what is actually happening in the story. Certain events suddenly don't make sense.

For example:

Spoiler

Quan Quan finding his little master, who then was dead and Quan Quan wants revenge, the storyline stopped suddenly? Or the one with the rice in Tenglong Base, it wasn't described properly, this scheme of the ML and I don't actually get what was happening. A lot of storyline that the author writes seems to be placed together haphazardly.

[collapse]

I also do not understand what's going on with Fu Yanzhou. Maybe its the MTL thats making me confused but I just don't get what his motives are, and why the sudden scene of FL fighting to save him ended abruptly again with her making ML sad/mad.

Oh well. Just read it to pass the time I guess. I wouldn't say its that bad but it isn't the greatest novel with no explanations as to why certain things are happening, or why some scenes are cut short, some characters that you think are important in the beginning are also suddenly gone from the story. I just enjoyed the base building part and the chemistry between the leads is kinda sweet.

3.5-4 rating. <<less

The overall story is decently good but it feels like after a certain chapter
Spoiler

after the chapter where Fu Yanzhou went back to the lab, the author suddenly felt the need to rush the ending.

[collapse]
Story did not focus on base building after this, it was basically fast forwarded, which is a disappointment for me because I was hooked on this story due to this reason. It was a good read but will definitely not reread this again.

I actually enjoyed reading it so much that I didn't realize I catch up to current chapter.

I just want to say that it is worth it to read.

This is the first time I read an apocalypse genre type of story with this set up. I mean, most of the story I read with this genre have either the ML or FL rebirth or transmigrated (altho, obviously the FL in here will transmigrate too) in beginning of the story. So kinda refreshing to read.

Spoiler

Also, I like that despite the FL only playing games, she has a character development. It can be seen that the FL is quite soft-hearted in the story and her learning from ML while still having her own initiative to become strong is such game changer. Most of the time they need to be trampled over and over again before standing for themselves, good thing she's changing that.

On the other hand, I'm actually shock when they show some of the ML's back story (when apocalypse started), and how he didn't let him and his own principles be trampled over. I mean him not letting them benefit from him is such a powerful move and this became a good example. Now, I'm more curious of his back story and how he ended up in that situation when FL first saw and save him.

[collapse]

Edit; 07/18/23

So I ended up using MTL to finished it. And I just want to say that the story was really quite refreshing. It was well explained and written. Whenever I read this type of story, I thought why does the protagonist is the protagonist of the story? I mean it can be anyone if they weren't that special you know, but here Li Weilan is the protagonist because he's one of the people near the meteorite before apocalypse started (of course add the fact that he is a victim of inhumane experiment) while on the other hand Shen Cheng is one of the chosen players. The best part of reading it is how the author really have a good emphasis on what the conflict really is, which is the human nature itself. It just realistic for me. One thing that makes it unique is that it doesn't mean that this character is antagonist or the friend of protagonist they will stay that way. Like the healer girl, I'm expecting her to have an explosive comeback but she remained passive up until the end. And Tang Lu, I was expecting him to be an annoying antagonist yet it didn't happen.
Spoiler

Best example is Fu Hangzhou's chosen path. Actually it was very unexpected when he did that.

[collapse]

Next, I think that Xia Jinshi's plan might have been quite touching when we look at it in another view. Cause when you think about it he was planning to sacrifice himself in order to save his own world. Which isn't really a bad thing if only for their world but when you think of the other world it really is mess up. The only good point of him is he wants to end the apocalypse. Lastly, I kind of irked by the FL near the ending when she tried to save Fu Hangzhou or when she got a one on one with Xia Jinshi. They didn't go as planned I even understand why Li Weilan was angry when she tried to save Fu Hangzhou without his help. It looks to me that she was underestimating the antagonists. I mean, he isn't a dean of scientific research for a reason y'know. Anyways, refreshing and unique story for me. <<less

OG review, 48 chs: I started this novel last night and then stayed up till 4am reading the mtl till I had to pass out because I was tired. I continued reading since I woke up and have decided to leave a review now as im sure of my opinion of the story. (extra note, the mtl is easy to find and I found it pretty easy to read which is SUCH a relief esp for late night reading, didnt make my head hurt lol)

i love this novel! I... more>> was suprised when writing this that im only at ch48 because I feel like so much has happened, but at the same time, it actually hasnt. the world building is really good, and I love how even though ML and FL are from different worlds, she can still learn things from him and having him in her life has actively helped further her character growth. MC is a bit of a pushover (dont let that throw you off) but its not so unbearable that you shake your head. its actually a bit nice, because we see how she goes from being a bit of a pushover to learning how to stand up for herself more and hold her ground with the sometimes indirect help of the ML! its actually very satisfying to watch some people in her life get what they deserve and at the same time see her confidence rise, the execution was sooo nice.

Spoiler

when she traps her landlord who had taken pictures of her in her apartment and sold them to people online and been breaking into her apartment and stealing her underwear after smelling them (WTF? uhm). at first, she was worrying about moving out and pricing, and scared of the landlord and what he would do. after deciding to learn from the ML and what he would do, she goes from pushover to setting up cameras, locking up his ass and later on pretending to be a serial killer in her new apartment because her roomate wouldnt respect her boundaries and walked all over her. thats what I mean by dont let it throw you off because it usually always would for me, but she bounces back quick and comes off hard and strong when paying them back. she also got a roomate this time because of her safety after the thing with the landlord, showing shes actively putting in the effort towards herself and her safety.

[collapse]

the ML is SO CUTE I cannot. when I say that I mean hes a good and strong leader to the people in the base, but towards our FL hes always smiling and sometimes blushing. its not overdone that hes a full on puppy, but enough that when it happens you cant help clutching your heart. its less like acting like a child and pouting (that some MLs do for some godforsaken reason), and more of a realistic and steady development. he treats her as an equal and is his usual self, but you can tell he keeps her in mind in everything he does. so, if you have an ick for overly childish ML's, this mannn is for you. (his affection is apparent, just not OTT.)

small cute spoiler

Spoiler

whenever she logs onto the game, he can sense her and wherever he is, he always smiles and says "you're here." UGH the most heartwarminggggg thing ever.

[collapse]

now, I saw some reviews saying he treats her different later on, which sounds like a nightmare to me. I havent gotten that far, but when I finish the story I will update my review letting you know!

EDIT: here I am, 11 hours later and ive just finished the novel, updating my review as promised. my rating of 5 stars stands, I actually read all the chapters whereas I usually get bored and skip some in the middle, this managed to hold my attention well.

relationship change

Spoiler

to me, this is not true. the game would blur out MC's words whenever she mentioned she was from another world, but ML still managed to find out that she saw his world as a game before she even suspected he was real. now, I will say their relationship changed, but only because ML was considerate and was not a bad change, I would call it more development. he learnt that her living situation isnt as good as he thought and that she is quite poor, knowing this, he stressed to her to take care of herself first and he no longer worried when she was logged off. he also tried to find various methods to help her save money instead of spending it on the game, because he knew she was quite poor and didnt want her to exhaust her little savings for him. they worked together to find ways to accomodate eachother, and I think it was really nice seeing their development. when he realised he was a game character to her, his main thought was that he should act like an AI at times because he didnt want to scare her into deleting the app once she realised he was very real.

[collapse]

now if im being honest...

Spoiler

1: I would have preferred if the ML&FL settled down in ML's world. I grew an attachment to the people there, because they were the characters we saw gain purpose and grow. I was looking forward to seeing her interact with the people she saved and the conversation she would have face to face with the lab guy (forgot his name, the one that ends up with Xi Bei (?)) after trying to save him from the science organisation. I feel like there was a lot of potential with many characters if she stayed in his world, and the relationships she could have built with some of the main side characters that viewed her as a saviour. the ML was always saying we must not forget the true master of their base, and these people had a fierce loyalty to her, yet she could only gently push them with a breeze, let alone have s conversation! I was really looking forward to the friendships that could have happened, but alas, maybe it would have only been possible if she stayed in that world, and that did not happen.

2: I wish there were more scenes of them being, idk the right word, intimate? keep in mind they only visited eachothers world I think twice? throughout the story and only settled down in the last 2-3 chapters. due to this, we saw their affection as a couple, but we barely got any good scenes!! they barely held hands 😭 where is the um. yeah you know what I mean. even if they did a fade to black scene, maybe I would survive. we saw the ML's possession and infaution with her build and him trying to hold it back, but thats it, he holds it back. all this buildup and the story ends with him proposing, we didnt even see her answer!

[collapse]

i also remember bingeing "i raised a sick and weak young prince", but I cant really remember if I finished it or what. I remember really liking it, but thr details of the later story arent clear in my head. for that reason, I would say that even though this is my first novel with a zombie apocalypse, it was executed well and stays up to par with the novel previously mentioned. I will now be on the hunt for similar stories. (please send me recommendations ;-;) <<less
