For example, at the very beginning where Van starts his journey of proving his ability, Hans immediately becomes a glazer. Sure Van does proof his worth, but the supposed 'genuine' praise is exaggerated to the point where it feels fake.

The surrounding character's exaggerated opinion of Van is also extended throughout all of Van's interactions with other characters. They're just constantly singing praise for Van which makes it annoying rather than satisfying to the reader for our protagonist.

Despite the characters, I do appreciate the setting the story takes place in—especially the magic system. Some parts of the novel look into the details of the magic system and is interesting enough to read through. I won't persistently check for updates for this novel, but I'd most likely read this as a read to melt my brain cells to. <<less

Saying this is either good or bad is wrong BUT I can give any readers one tip : turn your brain off for most of the stuff and enjoy it like a badly translated slice of life anime cause it feels like one.

This novel features some stuff I like for example some family fluff from the younger brother Karl (I like it with a K more than a C) an academy setting with a balanced ratio of female and male characters.

But it's badly done... Or to be exact like how... more>> a different commentar said the conversations between characters are dry and boring lacking any feelings behind the characters actions and are essentially all simps for the MC and his intelligence.

And also alot of dumb moments between characters for example a character who's name I won't say (cause I forgot) who's supposedly a villain immediately trusted the MC with healing there groups SAINT while he was sick and essentially dying like what??

But I personally like the world building which fits a game - it's kinda like Harry potter but it just lacks what made Harry potter good - the connections and emotional attachments with the cast despite the world building inaccuracies. <<less

I really tried to give this a chance because the MC reminded me of my most favorite MC of all time, that's why I read up to the 100s. But both the execution of the story and the supporting characters were so poorly done I just couldn't continue anymore. It bored the heck out of me.

What I like about this novel:

• Van reminds me of Cale Henituse from TCF. He is someone who wants to enjoy the leisure life of being a diamond spoon and away from the spotlight yet ultimately fails. He also has an ability that makes him look dignified, strong & calm despite being/feeling otherwise. He has fainted quite a few times as well lmao

• The misunderstandings about Van's "self-sacrificial" actions are my guilty pleasure so I don't find them annoying.

• I like that the bad rumors about the og Van aren't immediately quelled but rather, they were gradually debunked or turned for the better as Van accomplishes numerous feats.

What I didn't like about this novel:

• Narration is more on tell than show. The narration and execution of events definitely still have some room for improvements.

• Obvious usage of plot armor.

• Infodumping

• Worldbuilding was poorly done.

• Repetitive narration of the same information. I lost count how many times the author repeated that there are 16 true protagonists, 4 academies, 4 departments in each academy & 1 true protagonist on each department in the game, Hero Academy.

• The supporting characters are not that memorable. The author tried to flesh them out—a few had some quirks to them while some had their own typical sad backstories. The problem is, they were intoduced in rapid successions and the massive info dump of introductions to their characters in a couple of lines makes them less fleshed-out to me. The spotlights to these supporting characters are minimal so I can't even get attached and the way the author uses them is like they're extras... simply stepping stones to maximize the MC's greatness or force him to take action so the story will progress. They don't really act like normal humans. Sure, they're fictional characters. But well done fictitious characters can invoke complex feelings from readers, making the readers sympathize or genuinely feel for them. The supporting characters in this novel? They're simply imagined characters that I will immediately forget after reading. They're that unremarkable.

• The pacing is fast. It felt like I was reading on 2x speed. There's a big event right after every arc. It felt like the author's rushing everything and crammed all the events he could think of back-to-back.

• Battles are lackluster. They're mainly consisted of bets, strategies, one-shot fights, plot armor, MC's eloquent-to-arrogant speeches, and more plot armor. <<less

I’m struggling between rating this novel 4 stars and 1 star. The bulk of the novel (roughly the first 240 chapters) are very good. Nothing groundbreaking, but at least an interesting take on the “possessing tr*sh in the game” subgenre. It follows a good progression both narratively and in terms of character development, for the MC and the side characters. It also explores a decently interesting theme on people being products of their environment.

Where everything falls apart is the ending, starting roughly around chapter 241-250. All the loose ends, all... more>> the plot threads, everything that had been set up, is just ended with simple sentences. It happens so fast that it’s hard to even understand the progression of events at all. Despite everything being “resolved”, it feels like nothing has truly been resolved. I guess it’s better than nothing that at least they resolved these threads rather than it just ending randomly, but it feels like a significant chunk of the story was just robbed from us.

In conclusion, it’s a great story with a terrible ending. Rating it 3 stars because it is an enjoyable ride, but the end might leave you feeling like it was pointless. <<less

To be honest, I am disappointed with this novel. The main character, the other characters and the world are written very poorly and extremely stereotypically. The feeling of some immaturity and unfulfilled ambitions in the author's writing style leaves behind only a feeling of great incompleteness and shattered hopes. I gave this novel a chance, read 92 chapters and with regret I can only conclude that the further - the worse. The more events, characters and lore are added to the narrative, the worse the writing style becomes, as if the author can't keep up with himself.

You may disagree with my point of view, but don't waste your time on this novel. Read "The Villains Wants To Live" instead, same theme with a villain as the main character, but much better. Believe me, it will be healthier for your heart and mind. <<less

Honestly, the synopsis of the novel is pretty misleading compared to the MC's actions. Dude says he wants to live an easy, lowkey-ish life, yet his plans and also due to his speech ability causes him to pretty much announce all of his achievements constantly and be hailed as a hero. Wont say its a literary masterpiece but events in the beginning and middle was nice, I liked it. Towards the end it got weird, the power scaling didnt feel as real anymore and the endings execution was ass lol it was rushed and if it were better paced and written id bump it up to 4.5 but man..

It feels like at first the author had a slightly formed story but little by little forgot it and started just adding random things.
