Tong Xuelu had the nickname Queen of Green Tea.

She was stunning in looks, has a shapely body, and had a lot of suitors, although she had never been in any serious relationships.

By the time she was done being a green tea and was about to be a nice person, her retribution had caught up to her!

She had transmigrated into a book. Into the 70s where materialistic goods were rare and she was a poor soul who was the fake daughter of a wealthy family!

Per the story, she would be face slapped by the real daughter who was rebirthed, be married to an old man who had once been married, and finally die from domestic violence.

Tong XueLu: ……I’d rather continue to be a green tea.

Raise three bosses of the future and be a salted fish such that all she had to do was to lay around and wait for things to be handed to her. [check]

Cheat her way into a government-run restaurant and have good food every day. [check]

Use her agility and wit to avoid being faceslapped by the real daughter. [check]

As far as an excellent green tea was concerned, she would be able to handle any scripts handed to her and still end up the winner.

***

Wen Rugui, a physicist, was young, handsome and had his entire life ahead of him. He had, however, let his research distracted him from starting a family.

All of his bosses were eyeing him to become part of their family.

Until one day.

Wen Rugui brought a charming girl into his research facility and with love in his eyes announced, “This is my fiancee. We are here to report our upcoming matrimony.”

His bosses: Shocked beyond words.

His female colleagues: All hearts are broken.

Tong XueLu: Sorry, all. My charm is but a passive skill.

I find it very good. The FL is a bit OP but that's ok because it's written well :)

Pros:

- FL is clever, she doesn't provoke people, stays low-key until it becomes inevitable for her to fight back (she's not forgiving them)

- cute siblings

- shy ML

Spoiler

has trauma/psychological problems from childhood

[collapse]

Cons:

- enemies "everywhere"

- nationalism

It's not exceptional but it's a fairly good read for the genre. I think the pacing of the story might be a bit of a problem.

Spoiler

As of ch 517 of the translation it's been a little over a year, MC hasn't started school, and she plans on getting married in two more years. If it continued at this pace it would take another 500-1000 chapters just to get married, but they've hinted at her siblings adulthood from the beginning. It would be strange if the story didn't continue for many years. Timeskips, less filler, and rushing the end perhaps? Could be wrong. Just my gut feeling.

[collapse]

As others have said the best parts are definitely the MC and her siblings. The grandpa's a close second. The ML is a bit naive when it comes to love... maybe a little too far. It's kicked up to 11 here. Honestly it's not too hard to believe considering the year/setting. There was no Internet, much less education on the topic.

Spoiler

Still, using two dogs in heat as an impromptu s*x ed display was a bit eye rolling. Sure it was funny, but even if people were conservative they should have some tradition of passing on the absolute basics to their children.. at least so they had a hope of grandchildren...

Good thing the 100+ didn't deter from reading this, coz most of the time I read novels with more than 800+ chapters (whenever I see novels with only 100+ chaps, my first impression would be, it'll be just a short story with only 2-5 characters interactions).

But this. Even tho the world wasn't really explored or have some major world changing plot, the story gave me a very satisfying experience.

... more>> Yes it have the typical resumed-college-entrance-exam, the typical plot missing-relatives, rags-to-riches. But please dont be deter to read this novel. Despite its typical plots, the author really did a very good job in outlining the whole story. The 100+ chapters was just the right amount.

This story cleanse my dark heart from the past novels I've read (from drag out and endless faceslapping, and the rats and c*ckroaches antagonist), and scratched the itch that I dont know have been itching.

Spoiler

the schizophrenia episode really touch my heart. As someone with a family history of mental illness, having someone by your side at your darkest and weakest moment really... I cant, i, haha, I cant describe it in words... Just... Wonderful.

cried to hard at that part. Really had me wishing to also have someone like Tong XueLu (mc) to be in my life.

Very good and satisfying novel. would've been better if there was a sidestory about Tong XueLu's siblings' relationships, I really want to see Tong Jiaxin and Shen Zhuzhu's relationship and how they'll develop, also Tong Mianmian and Xiao Jiu, but most of all I really want to see who'll end up with the eldest, Tong Jiaming. <<less

Sooo good, good familial relationships, good romantic relationships, so many comedic moments.

FL is kinda too OP and lots of nationalism stuff but I mean it was manageable to read.

Fave character with honestly the most personality is FL’s brother Tong Jiaxin, he was actually the best fleshed out character to me, minus the fact that he’s a typical middle child.

... more>> Even FL’s buddies are good, tho the ML’s gang of dum dums are too cute and funny.

It was an interesting enough read so far, but as cliche calls for it, the FL is basically invincible and has the best opportunities fr! Which is honestly fun.

I can give it a 4.35/5 <<less

It’s definitely slice of life and nothing felt like a major upheaval even with the faceslapping plots. Which ended up fairly satisfying. I sort of expected more entertainment based on the title but it’s fine. The relationships (all of them - romance, family, friends) is cute.

i had been looking for something to read for ages, I deliberately avoided any novels set in the 70/80/90's but despite all that I curiously clicked the novel and was further intrigued but also slightly discouraged by the 'green tea' label of the protag since im not really a fan of that sort of protagonists. Despite that, noticing the high 5 star and 4 star rating from 120+ people and the interesting reviews made me read this.

THIS NOVEL DID NOT DISAPPOINT!!!!! It's just way too good, the MC is great... more>> the ML is even cuter and the plot was so stable with great flow to boot. Although i'd say in some regards the plot/protagonist halo was too much in some situations but it's all good.

i just think its so rare to have non-farming/villagers in the 70/80/90's vibes. It was intriguing to see things apart from farming and black-market business alone. Though the cliche of moving ahead with cooking remains it was done in an extremely novel way that was fun and easier to read. In short it was fun and entertaining despite having all my prejudice against it I was totally drawn to the story. Though imo while the MC does act like a green tea especially in the earlier bit of the story she also acts like a black lotus and prianhana. <<less

It was great at the start but towards the middle half, it turned into a soap opera. No dog blood between the MCs, but the villains/villainesses in this CN are just really vicious and s*upid that made me rate this a 3 ☆. I was able to finish this tho because cliche's do work. But for me the quality of this novel is average.

Spoiler

Unexpectedly for a supposed romantic CN, the body count is staggering. Almost all of the MC's enemies were killed. The tone of this novel felt off where the MC's happy family life is fluffy with pink hearts (despite ML's sickness) but the lives of her enemies were all coated red.

I hope my review is understandable, but writing it using Google Translate to make it into English, so I can't be sure.

Okay, first of all: I liked the novel. I found the approach different from most novels as soon as I saw it – since while our MC is a bit Mary Sue, I don't think her accomplishments are all that impossible. Her main skills are just two: ... more>>

she cooks very, very well and is skilled at dealing with people

. Both abilities she got in her first life, in which she was a green tea. I saw one person commenting that she also managed to remember how to build an induction cooker at a certain point in the novel, but that's not what I understood when I read it. I had understood that she drew the APPEARANCE of said stove and described what it should do, so that ML and her friends, all researchers, could figure out how to do it.

About her accomplishments, the things she does, like moving up "fast" in a job, taking first place in a national exam, etc., are all explainable. She moves up the job quickly because she knows exactly how to best deal with each person and is skilled at what she sets out to do, which after her first job, is mainly

[collapse]
(her main skills). As for the first place in the exam, the MC herself said in the novel that she wasn't really a genius and that she only got it because she studied well in advance and she already had the knowledge from decades into the future, which was much deeper than that of the MC. 70s, and she chooses a course that she knows she will be able to follow, since although she got high marks in all subjects on the exam, she understands that if she chose a course like chemistry or mathematics, for example, it would get progressively more difficult and she wasn't really a genius, contrary to what her placement and score would suggest.

The romance with ML was cute and well-constructed, too, and even though this isn't my favorite type of ML, I quite enjoyed it. He is very dedicated to the MC and truly loves her, in addition to always putting her first (if he had to choose between her and their children, for example, he would choose her) and not accepting anyone talking bad about her or mistreating her.. MC's brothers are also adorable and the family she meets and her friends are great for her (I'll never forget when she asked one of her friends if he could "handle" two people for her and he understood that she wanted that he KILLED both people, and he still agreed. Luckily the MC realized he had misunderstood and cleared up the misunderstanding, but I thought it was very sweet of him and this is easily one of my favorite moments in the novel).

As for the plot: the first half of the novel is mostly focused on MC's brothers and their changing jobs and the second half on the romance with ML and other plot devices. Although the biggest job evolutions occur in the first half of the novel, MC is developing and undertaking until the end, having even gone to college (that's why she took the exam that came in first place).

That said, I think the novel's synopsis might be a little misleading. The plot isn't really related to her being a green tea and the slap in the face isn't as dramatic as you might think. Although she possesses green tea abilities (her understanding of people and the ability to play innocent even when she is not), this is mostly used at the beginning of the novel and only when necessary. She won't hurt anyone who doesn't bother her: her philosophy is to leave everyone alone unless they come to bother her and her family. The plot with the royal daughter and the family is very small and easily resolved. MC's main focus is to take care of her brothers, have her business and get rich and ML himself (which yes, she really loves and knows it, in addition to treating him very well too). Another point I consider to say that she is not so mary sue either is that even though she gets rich there are still things she can't afford easily and still needs to save and wait before purchasing.

There are a lot of antagonists and it can be a little tiresome, plus not all plots are necessary (the last one, with MC's old college friend and her husband for example, for me wasn't really necessary, although I understand it might have been a way for the author to show how one's path can go astray if one is not careful). Because it's a relatively large novel for a relatively simple theme, there are a lot of plot devices as someone has already mentioned in another review (real daughter vs fake daughter, poor to rich, kidnapping, betrayal, mental illness as a plot device, powerful family and lost that comes out of nowhere, etc). Also, there is a lot of nationalism in this story, a lot. All that baggage of putting the country first, being patriotic and loyal to the country, etc. Many people are shot, too, having committed crimes and received the death penalty. Remember, it's China in the 70's.

In summary, I liked the novel and I even recommend it, but I wouldn't read it again and would like to rate it as 3.9 instead of 4 stars, since there are things that bothered me a lot. <<less

This is the only reason why I created an account. I read this novel because I'm curious and because it's based on 1970's. Then, I realized that I already reading MTL and got hooked up. The novel is interesting and I even have to find the missing Side Stories and damn, I started crying when I read the ending.

It's been a while since I reviewed a story. And all I can say is that this story is really good. (^.^) It made me happy, cry, sad, angry, frustrated.. It also gave me a glimpse of life from the 70's. I'm glad the FL transmigrated. I didn't expect that ML was ab*sed by his own mother when he was a child and it's good that FL is there to help him get pass that trauma. I'm happy that he was able to have a good life with his loving... more>> family. (^ω^)And their children are all cute. I'm also relieved that the life experience FL's brothers and sister deviated from the original one and they were also able to have a good life. (。・ω・。) At the end, ML was together with FL. The story is good and it captures the custom and age of that time really well.

There was no s*x ed at the time so most people are innocent and ignorant of marital relationship.

The ML doesn't appear much at the first half of the story and FL was busy with her job.

... more>> The first half is more about FL vs society and taking care of her 3 younger siblings. Their interaction is wholesome like real siblings. Farts, quarrels, calling ugly, etc

Second half nearing its end FL and ML doesn't spend much time together because they're busy but their interaction is very amazing.

DON'T LET THE ML'S FIRST IMPRESSION FOOL YOU!!!!!!

The first impression of ML is that he's aloof and cold, but it's just him being ignorant of how people interact. ML is just a cutie! He didn't even dare to hold FL's hand!

Quickck witted cunning FL and innocent ML.

Spoiler

Tbh, FL & ML have crush on each other because of the face. Yeah both are beauties of the century lol. But later they developed feelings for each other without hiding personality. Even FL was surprised that she would truly be in love, she thought she would be a green tea in front of her husband but no she's always her true self in front of ML

[collapse]

It wasn't revealed that something was wrong with ML not until the story was nearing its end. Idk maybe the translation split some chapters so it took time for me to find which one was the recent chapter.

Here is a little mtl from the novel chp 126:

Spoiler

"It never occurred to her that he was always ill.

Since the two of them have been together for so long, he has always looked normal, but judging from his description just now, it clearly shows that he is schizophrenic.

That little friend was clearly the him was when he was a child. After so many years, he didn't realize that something was wrong. The little boy never grew up.

Just heard him say that every time the little boy appeared, he was injured all over, and she almost couldn't help crying.

How on earth was he ab*sed by Cheng Xiuyun when others couldn't see it?

She didn't know much about the mental illness schizophrenia, but she knew that it was linked to the environment.

The last time the little boy appeared was when he saw Mianmian being ab*sed by Tong Zhenzhen."

[collapse]

I didn't expect such plot twist because the ML was too cute. He kept blushing and being shy around FL. He wouldn't mind to be under her.

About his problem according to me:

Spoiler

ML is mentally ill and had hallucination. He sees a young boy since he was young and thought it was his friend. The boy often appeared to be wounded because he was beaten by his mother.

Truth to be told, that boy is actually ML. ML lost his memory because of trauma and that memory took shape as his imaginary friend. People with mental illness doesn't realized that their hallucination doesn't make sense. The little boy doesn't age and always like that.

The previous novel I read has ML with the exact same mental illness. So I was surprised to find this ML also has mental illness. People with this mental illness has heavy depression and once they find out about their own mental illness they'd break down and most likely commit su*cide.

The illness is triggered from time to time, it doesn't happen all the time. There's no cure but at least we can reduce its occurrence.

The FL hasn't said anything to ML about his mental illness it's a good move because it's dangerous.

People with schizophrenia, no matter the severity of their illness, have one thing in common, that is, they do not feel that they are sick or abnormal.

Once they realize that it is otherwise, they feel disgust for themselves, panic and doubt the whole world.

To escape from depression the young ML focused his attention to study physics then became a researcher. In the original story the ML actually committed su*cide.

ML hasn't seen hallucination for a long time because he met FL so far.

[collapse]

ML's head was full of romance so much that FL didn't know about his problem and just found out on cp 126. The novel has around 165 chapters if I'm not mistaken. That's almost like 1/3 of the novel before the end of the story.

ML's problem was only mentioned few times and was only mentioned in passing. FL just need to get rid of the cause that triggers his problem and everything is solved! The story isn't about ML's problem and the main focus is how FL solves things.

A little bit of future chapter about his problem:

Spoiler

Chapter 138-139 FL woke up in the middle of the night. This happened during her pregnancy.

When she opened her eyes, she saw Wen Rugui sitting beside the bed and said to the empty chair, "Did you really ask your father to arrange a woman to approach Shi Xiuneng?"

(Shi Xiuneng is whom ML's mother cheated with and her current husband)

Tong Xuelu was shocked and woke up.

Her eyes fell on the chair, there was nothing on the chair, but Wen Rugui looked at the chair as if she was talking to someone.

The atmosphere was eerie and creepy, and she got goosebumps all over.

This time his illness was triggered probably because he was anxious about FL and the baby. Afraid that his mother and her husband would harm them. Also because ML was upset since FL didn't say anything to him. FL had been shielding ML lest his trauma would resurface.

So FL immediately distracted ML to help her with something else and she get rid of ML's mother as soon as possible.... Well, she tried but according to the plot armor ML has to face his mental illness and received a shock and mental breakdown

[collapse]

The story was always funny but the more you read the deeper you go then the darker the road will be. The story isn't simple. It depicts its characters in that age very well. Side characters aren't just NPC they're truly living and their hardships are vividly described.

Most characters are grey, no one here is pure white. You can't tell who to trust. I didn't pay attention much to it before but there are many psychological thing mentioned in the novel. Such as how the FL didn't interfere much with her siblings and etc.

The comedy, mystery, conflict, characters, plot, romance, social interaction, family bonding. Everything mix well and the author put in the amount of each elements, in every chapters.

But of course I always skip parts about FL's cooking. I'd be crazy if I read this part <<less

The story is pretty good and entertaining! I love the MC's wit and personality and how her relationship with her sibling and their acceptance of each other is steady and reasonable. I especially love MianMian, the adorable little sister. She's soooo cute!

I also love that how some characters may seem like the stereotypical bad people, but they might not actually be bad, or more to say that their first impression or introduction in the story may seem bad, but they also have their own moral standing.
