The Husky and His White Cat Shizun

Description

Mo Ran thought becoming Chu Wanning’s disciple was a mistake.

His shizun was really too much like a cat while he himself was a dumb pup who’d only slobber and wag his tail.

Dogs and cats were different by nature; originally, the dumb pup didn’t want to reach his furry paws out to that cat.

At first he thought, dogs should be with dogs, like his shixiong, beautiful and tame like a cute Japanese Spitz, and the two of them together would surely be a match made in heaven.

Yet, after having died and reborn, after having lived two lives, the one he hauled back each time to his den in the end was always the one he couldn’t stand at first: that snow-white kitty shizun.

WHAT A READ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so mad! I suffered through the read. WHY!!!!!!!!!!! Literally, in middle of the night I screamed! Through the novel, several times I thought 'Humankind is not worth saving.' I cried so much! If 'Heaven Official' while reading felt like a dagger went through your heart three times, then this novel actually felt like shot of hundred swords so many times that I lost count! It emotionally drained me.

This novel. This god damn novel.

I have very mixed feelings about it. Now, I am not a person who cannot handle heavier topics but this novel just takes things to a whole new level of heavy. Like, I have been warned so much and yet I was still not prepared. Maybe because I usually avoid the R*pe tag like the plague but this novel just affected me in ways that I did not enjoy.

Suffice to say though, the reason why I pushed through the uncomfortable feelings it gave me was... more>> because the majority of those actions happened... for a reason. Mainly, they happened in the previous life of the MC. Not only that but the novel never gloryfied said actions in a positive way, actively pointing out that "No, this is NOT okay." And I think this is a huge factor that differentiates a novel that handles this topic poorly and a novel that can use it for its narrative. And that's all I can say without spoiling too many things.

Nevertheless the story and characters were interesting and engaging, the twists weren't that obvious though at the later part of the novel things got a bit too hectic, which is the main reason for a star down.

I won't be rereading this story, but I am glad I read it. If you are a person who can handle heavy topics like ab*se, violence and r*pe, I'd say you should give this a try. However, if you are into fluffy chill novels, I'd recommend you pass on this one. <<less

I am not saying that ML went didn't go through any suffering ML suffered a lot but MC suffered the most so please don't judge him please I am saying this for your own good

Perception is everything.

This statement is all too true when Mo Ran - Taxian-Jun, Emperor of the cultivation world - waking up in his 15 year old self, goes through adolescence again only to realise that the Shizun he hated so much for being cold, unfeeling and merciless is in fact the exact opposite!

Suddenly, every moment of his "past" is under scrutiny, every action Chu Wanning takes is re-evaluated. Years of misunderstandings finally unravelled by a more older and discerning Mo Ran, he has to wonder - why did he never... more>> realise the first time around?

And, yet another important question: Are the sins of your future forgiven if no one but you knows what had happened?

Mo Ran spent over ten years torturing and humiliating his Shizun, and in his second chance at life, vows a life-time devoted to respecting and caring for his Shizun.
Spoiler

Only, there is someone else too, who knows of the crimes Taxian-Jun committed. And he won't let it be forgotten.

[collapse]
.

A most beautiful and heart-wrenching story about redemption, second chances, sacrifice and a love that transcends time and asks the question -
Spoiler

can you love someone who hates you? And can you hate someone who loves you?

[collapse]

There are plot twists that I did not see coming, yet when they did occur, made a surprising amount of sense. There were back stories revealed that were too overwhelmingly sad, that I wonder how *anyone* passed their childhood to emerge relatively sane.

This is one of the rare - and so far, only - story that I've read where I start off despising the MC, wanting someone to knock some sense into him, curse him throughout the narrative... and then slowly, slowly grow into liking him.

One last thing; the title does not lie, Mo Ran really is a f*cking dumb dog! How dense can one human be? He raised the bar so high, I can no longer see it! <<less

I felt complete yet empty after I finished reading this.

This is a great book, hands down. The thing I like so much about this book is how each and every tiny event has something to contribute to the main plot. More importantly,

This is a story about two individuals who respect each and find their love despite their shared horrible past.

It is executed really well. It is also heartbreaking and till date, this remains one of the only novels that managed to make me cry. There is something beautiful yet... more>> dark in their romance and I just.... ughhhhhhh

About the book:

The pace is steadily set. In the first chapter, I actually burst out laughing.

Spoiler

what with steamed consort Chu fish etc etc.

[collapse]

But then you read their back story and you think back and now that scene becomes heartbreaking. It puts a knife in your back. It leaves you robbed of emotions.

Spoiler

when Mo ran forgot how chu wanning taught him to read, I was squeezing my eyeballs not to cry.

[collapse]

The villains are unexpectedly goos and have clear motives. They're not airheads blinded by Chu Wanning's beauty and grace. The villains do not feel paltry and you actually feel helpless.

One great thing about the author is how she likes to put the stakes high against the protags and they do not have an easy way out. Oh boy.

The happing ending to me is not more happy than it is bittersweet and honestly, I could reread this a billion times.

All backstories are so real and actions so inherently human, the side characters are worth looking out for. They're not here just to support the main cast. They just have roles and stories that have consequences to Mc's backstory.

Spoiler

I did not expect MC's backstory. So tragic!

[collapse]

If you have taken the time to read till now, you'll definitely know that this is worth reading.

SO WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!? GO READ THIS! <<less

I am pateintly waiting for the updates as I am re-reading the novel for the 2nd time.

Mo Ran's (more like a moron) character growth is especially good. He is doubting his former self for not knowing anything about his one and only Shizun. And I am really loving their slow romance. Oh my Shizun-Chu Wanning! I really, really can't stop weeping whenever you are alone and helpless even though you clearly know that no one likes you but it is still so painful for me to see you being... more>> so heart wretched. Moron you idiot! Love him seriously. Or I'll transmigrate and do anything to help you get with him ASAP huh! And I MEAN IT.

So, overall I am loving it and by no wonder it is and will always be my fav. Novel.

Even though I hesitated after seeing the tags, but truthfully I am so glad that I got curious and read it I assure that no one will be able to hate this novel because I know the readers will only feel nails pricking in their heart from time to time.

I got carried away and only talked about my feelings about 2Ha lol.. I didn't get to say about any other characters..

P.S - I really liked Xue Zhengyong's fan.

"XUE IS BEAUTIFUL"

"OTHER ARE UGLY".

Thank you meat bun for this amazing novel and rynnamanrolls for their amazing tl. Love you. (˘ ³˘) ♥ <<less

!!! WARNING: If you are planning on reading, I advise you to wait until the translations have all come out (there are like 300 or something chapters overall). The translations are slow but that is because the translator is really thorough and amazing with their work which makes it so enjoyable to read. There is MTL but a lot of it gets lost in translation which spoils the story so I decided to wait for the translations to come out, even though my heart breaks being unable to know what happens next (╥﹏╥)

This novel has eaten away at my emotions to the point I feel numb but I am completely in love with the whole story and the characters since the author has written them in... more>> so much depth. The MC & ML are not the generic fluffy kind who are perfect or understand each other, our MC himself has many shortcomings but its who he is and it makes him so unique.

I look forward to when the rest of the chapters are out! (although that will probably be a while). <<less

Great story! Awesome world building, a lot of interesting, painful, heart-rending plot twists, plenty of character growth for the MC and ML, side characters that aren't one dimensional caricatures. And a really good translation to boot.

Warning: mind the tags & the author's warnings. Gore, Cannibalism, Non-Con are just a few of the horrible things that are done to/by/around the main characters.

At first I really hate MC, He's an assh*le, I wanna slap him hard. But MC 2.0 is sweet tho. ML (Shizun) so precious. We need to protect him ?

A light tragedy with a solid ending. Everyone tortures each other, especially the protagonists. The novel leads like a cliche, but eventually reveals... not all is as it seems. There are hints scattered throught if you read closely enough. I guessed wrongly~!

This gives an air of mystery to the novel that really impressed me. It helps that most of the characters are well fleshed out with believable motivations. Totally worth a read. Your emotions will go up and down, but not to the point of being ab*sed. The story was... more>> a great journey of taboo magics, practices, and love. <<less

Be warned that this novel is angsty af. There's a lot of death in the last one quarter and I felt so sad after reading it...

I loved the main couple's dynamic. They're so cute and I just wish we could have slice of life forever! I can't get enough of Cwn and Moran but unfortunately we don't get enough of them being happily in love in the novel. Also Moran is thirsty af all the time.

The character growth arc is this novel's strongest point. Moran's slowburn growing feelings for Cwn... more>> and the changes in his attitude and understanding are such a pleasure to read. They feel so natural and organic.

I read this in the original Chinese and I didn't totally like her writing style. Also, I felt that the last one quarter was a little too ambitious. <<less

I genuinely don't know whether I love or hate this book.

The mental, emotional, physical gymnastics it put me through just wasn't worth it.

At the same time it was the BEST MFCKING THING I've felt in my entire fvcking life.

The MC is "dumb" for very VALID reasons, but his lover (ML) is equally as dumb, or perhaps even MORE. So the title of this book is quite misleading. The suffering and MISCOMMUNICATION was so unnecessarily overdramatic and frustrating to the point you want to bang both of their heads on... more>> the wall and then bang yourself dead.

Even if it made sense at the end you still can't stop feeling contradictory emotions because you know so much of all that could have been avoided.

Chu wanning made me vomit blood throughout the story out of frustration. Although the typical fandom standard/ opinion for 2ha is that everyone more or less despises Mo Ran (even after finishing the whole book). 2ha fans for some reason absolutely love to overlook chu wanning's faults. People are just more empathetic towards danmei shous for whatever reason.

But I still just can't bring myself to feel any sort of attachment towards him. I felt sorry after learning his past but it still doesn't excuse some of his later actions that he Willingly committed as an Adult with a sound, perfectly working brain. It was pretty obvious how the author was trying to glaze his sufferings at the start and Mo Ran was being highlighted more and more as the bad guy. If you fell for it then I won't blame you lmfao but it was still pretty obvious that Chu Wanning's actions, words, decisions slowly, heavily contributed towards both of their future sufferings.

Neither of them are perfect. And chu wanning definitely isn't your typical petite, innocent, goody two shoes, "never did wrong" shou. If it wasn't for his overly unnecessary low self esteem, insecurities, arrogance, refusal to seek help and tendency to do the exact opposite of what's in his heart– they could've avoided the greater portion of the shitz they went through, even if there were external factors working behind the scenes.

He does change and redeem himself by the end but realizing how things could've been so much different just left a terrible bitterness in my mouth which will take forever to fade.

The "plot twists"/ reveals regarding certain characters and the MC didn't really feel much abrupt or forced. The hints were all over the place from the very first chapter. But the author did a really good job connecting everything and bringing it all together at end. The main theme of this story for both the MCs and the readers is that what you see with your eyes isn't always the entire truth. So don't just jump into conclusions reading the first few chapters. Chances are 90 out 100 that whatever you know / understand will be proven wrong.

The reread value for this book would be high if only you have the mental and physical capacity to bring yourself into going through it all again.

The author's writing style is phenomenal. Even after the trauma and frustration it caused me almost took a physical tole on me, I still pushed myself to complete it just because the writing style, worldbuilding and plot was too beautiful.

I don't know what I was expecting at the end. Even though it counts as a "happy ever after" it didn't feel satisfactory enough to bring me a sense of fulfilment. The last few chapters and ending were bit too underwhelming after reading over 1 MILLION+ words of overwhelming emotions. Maybe the author herself was tired of it or maybe I was just numb by that point. There weren't that many fluffy, "heart soothing" extras centered around the main couple either. So you really just have to deal with the hollowness after finishing the main story.

All I can say is that this book definitely isn't for everyone. For the love of your dawg please read the tags and think twice before you decide whether it'll be worth it for you to read or not. <<less

Before you think about reading erha, do NOT read this without looking over the warnings. They are absolutely necessary to read before diving into this; do not head in blind. If you want a review from somebody who isn't a proshipper, here is a review:

Erha surrounds our main character, Mo Ran, who after committing su*cide in his previous life is reincarnated into his own body from when he was 16 years old. His goal with this new opportunity is to save the person who he was in love with but... more>> who had died in his last life, Shi Mei. According to Mo Ran, the two's shizun, Chu Wanning, let Shi Mei die in his previous life, and because of that, he resents him completely, even having destroyed and annihilated his last world because of it. So, you follow Mo Ran as he makes new decisions and discovers new things.

The main pairing is actually between Mo Ran and Chu Wanning.

Normally, I would find this kind of dynamic strange, weird, and it would probably make me uncomfortable. A teacher and his student. However, having read it, I found that Mo Ran never truly saw Chu Wanning as someone he looked up to. When he had first met him, he respected him, but quickly after, this changes after a couple of events, and from then on, Mo Ran feared and then hated him. And when he finally begins to turn back around, Mo Ran struggles to respect him as a shizun because of his developing romantic feelings.

The twists and turns in this novel are actually so fun. I really enjoyed reading this. The characters are all good in their own ways and never stray. Aside from the unnecessary detailed r*pe scenes, this novel was a great read. It had great and interesting arcs and characters. Really, the only thing stopping me from recommending this novel to people is the r*pe scenes.

I find that Meatbun is always so extra and out of pocket for things. She wanted to show that Taxian-jun was bad. That was very clear with the fact he committed genocide; she did not need to throw in him being a rapist as well. In my opinion, it was heavily unnecessary and frankly ruined the entire novel for me. It was as if she was trying to purposely write a story that forgave the rapist. Whatever. Weirdo.

There is ONE thing where my opinion on Mo Ran differs from a lot of people and that is the difference between Mo Ran and Taxian-jun.

Spoiler

Taxian-jun was Mo Ran's name in his previous life after he demolished the world and ruled over the few existing lives. This version of Mo Ran, you learn, was put under a spell. This spell compleltely morphed and changed him as a person, leading him further and further away from being Mo Ran and into this Taxian-jun. By the end of the novel, they are two distinct people in one body. Mo Ran has split personality disorder, sharing his body with the soul from his previous life. Many people disagree with this and believe that they are the same character, but I think that's being ignorant of the mental illness that Mo Ran clearly has by the end of the novel and being disrespectful to the character that Mo Ran became throughout. Taxian-jun aggressively "loves" Chu Wanning (I personally see no love. He's violent and he is his rapist). Meanwhile, Mo Ran deeply has true genuine feelings for him and would never hurt him. They are different.

Mo Ran was put under a spell that created him into Taxian-jun, but after separation, these two are different by the end of the novel. I like Mo Ran, but I will never like Taxian-jun's character. If someone feels uncomfortable with a character for something such as being a rapist, people should not even argue.

[collapse]

No, I don't really recommend this novel to anyone. Especially not if you're turned off by violent and gross themes. It was incredibly hard to get through at the end when the r*pe scenes were suddenly chapter after chapter. I wanted to throw up; it took me a day to read each chapter.

If you're interested in erha, I recommend reading and stopping at the farm arc. It's cute, soft, sweet, relationship is officialized. Everything after the farm arc immediately goes downhill there. <<less

Phew. Having this as my third step into the genre sure was an experience. The UST was so thick and smoky, I gotta say, even if I'm usually not all in for NSFW content, the way it was written was... wow. Yeah. Actually love how it all ties up, I love how the characters are interwoven into one another, and I think the ending was both bittersweet but well-deserved for all parties. The transition of my thoughts from Moron to Mo Ran was something I didn't expect since once I... more>> decided on my impression of a character, I'm usually hard to sway from my feelings but Mo Ran managed to achieve it 👍. If you can stomach or at least read past the squickier parts of the novel, I think the story is tight and well-woven, with its ends and ties tucked into firm knots.

main characters → ★★★★★ (I'm easy to please and the shift from MoRon to Mo Ran was well-earned by the end so I don't have any grievances with either chu wanning or mo ran)

side characters → ★★★★★ (lotsa interesting or just plain-gripping characters, I think this is a main charm of 2ha with the cast. shout-out to my boy, nangong si, and ye wangxi, and mei hanxue)

10 out of f*cking 10. The very best danmei for me, I read this years ago before the official translation came out and I just fell in love with.

This novel is an absolute rollercoaster of emotions!!!

First off, the dynamic between the MC (Mo Ran) and the ML (Chu Wanning) is EVERYTHING! Mo Ran, our misunderstood, flawed husky of a protagonist, and Chu Wanning, the epitome of the cold but secretly soft-hearted shizun, are a match made in heaven! Their journey from antagonism to deep, heart-wrenching love is just so freaking... more>> beautiful and devastatingyl hurtful at the same time. The wontons thing, hurt me so much I did not eat or touch them for months.

The plot twists in this story kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Just when you think you know what's coming, BAM! The author throws in a twist that leaves you reeling. And the angst? Oh, the angst. I was clutching my heart, sobbing uncontrollably, and then there were comedic moments of pure joy and laughter.

Mo Ran's growth from a resentful and bitter soul to someone capable of deep love and redemption is portrayed so beautifully. Chu Wanning's stoic exterior slowly melting away to reveal his true feelings is just... swoon. The side characters are equally well-developed and add so much depth to the story.

The writing is superb, with vivid descriptions that bring the world to life. The cultivation elements are intricate and well-explained, but it's the relationships and emotional bonds that truly shine. And the romance! The slow-burn romance had me screaming at my phone, I happy that this got officially released so cause the author deserves the world!! <<less

Um, wow. I binged the whole series (minus all the extras) in just over a week. Even dealing with subpar MTL in the second half, it was a great time. No sleep, no regrets.

I came into this story expecting a lot of terrible and sad angst, and I was pleasantly surprised that it actually had a lot of funny and fluffy moments. You will genuinely fall for the main characters and you will become very invested in their wellbeing. I also felt like there were a lot of interesting insights... more>> on morality.

This was my first novel by this author. I'm definitely a fan now, and I look forward to reading her other works. <<less

Love the plot, love the angst (just the right amount), love the characters. The official English translation is being published, but I've finished reading the Chinese version.

My only comment would be that it's looong (350 chapters in total), and draggy in some parts. But, it's all necessary for the plot, world and chemistry building. Kudos to Meatbun. If you have a few weeks to spare, enjoy angst, love ML obsession, wants smut, and need to know that everything is going to be okay (in the end), this is it for... more>> you. <<less

Highly recommend Erha for its beautiful writing and heavy angst. Although I'm sure it's much more beautiful and poetic in the original language, the official translation (Seven Seas, Translation: Rynn & Jun) does a great job of conveying a sense of sadness and forlornness, especially in the first volumes. Certain passages evoked a recollection of emotions within me, similar to those experienced by the characters. The power of a phrase to evoke a deep feeling within the reader is quite prevalent within this story.

The protagonist Mo Ran is portrayed as... more>> a highly flawed human who strives to rectify past wrongs given a new chance. I find his character, reactions, and thoughts believable (although certainly not relatable). Similarly, although I do not understand Chu Wanning's personality on a personal level, he is as well, believable in his actions, being consistent throughout.

The plot is beautiful and complex and best enjoyed without any spoilers. The author includes from the beginning, fleeting mentions of the character's devotion that may escape the reader on the first read but will become evident on a second pass.

Although the story may not be for everyone, in my case, it made me stay up until 4 am, viciously reading for the first time, being gripped by angst and sadness and wishing that it could have all turned out differently. There are highs and lows (sadness and happiness) for both the characters and the reader.

Please read the tags before embarking on this journey, as it does contain some heavy depictions and mentions of harmful acts. <<less
