The Incompetent Bratty Prince Wants to Survive: Reincarnated as a Villainous Mob in a Romance RPG, But Aiming to Be the Strongest by Ignoring the Original Story

Harold, the third prince of the kingdom of Dehavals, gazed at his reflection in the mirror and let out a sigh.

This situation was only natural. After all, Harold had the unfortunate fate of being the most disliked character in the ill-fated role of the antagonist’s sidekick in the romantic mobile RPG “Engage Hazard,” a game he had played in his previous life.

In this RPG, which played out like a romance novel, the ultimate objective was to “win over the most outstanding fiancée in the world.”

During the tutorial phase, Harold had abruptly broken his engagement with the Duke’s daughter, only to challenge the main character. He had spent the rest of the game competing for the affections of various heroines, but in the end, he had remained a woeful secondary character. And as for the heroine… ultimately, his fate was sealed – execution.

But not this time!

Determined to survive, Harold planned to leverage his knowledge from his past life to become stronger. Instead of repeating his mistake of canceling his engagement with the Duke’s daughter, the first one to do so, he resolved to avoid the impending disastrous ending by immediately stepping away from the fiancée rivalry at the start of the main game.

What’s more, in his previous life, this very Duke’s daughter had been the character he had wholeheartedly recommended.

Yet, little did Harold know that this Duke’s daughter was not just stronger than any heroine; she was also more possessive and obsessed than any of them.

It was pretty fun to read about the relationship between the MC, his fiancee, and her servant. But other than that, the story doesn't have too much going for it.

The biggest flaw of this novel are the villains/antagonists (everybody else), they're extremely one note and cartoonishly evil. In the story they're written as "smart" people, but somehow they still think of the MC as weak and incompetent because he didn't show brilliance at like the age of 8.

I find it hard to believe that competent people, wouldn't at least lightly... more>> keep tabs on somebody. You know to see that he was training with the daughter of the strongest knight family and that he easily ace-ed his tutors exams. <<less

Tropey characters, bland dialogue, no sort of character development.

author is a terrible writer tbh which is why his premise on how a gacha game would operate story wise is furthest from how anyone would make one. (I guess that would be why it got canceled in 6 months)

I hate the term beta male but that's literally what we see with the MC. Typical "kindness" MC with a harem but not really harem and even at chapter 200 all the MC and fMC have done is hold hands and a... more>> small hickey after over 2 years of courtship.

villains are villains for the sake of being villians.

it's something to read and it's easy ish to digest if you turn off your brain <<less

The idea is decent but the main character, like 99% of japanese protagonists, is a complete eyesore and impressively vomiting. Its an insult to beta protagonists to even call him beta. The relationship with the main heroine is extremely lacklustre, its sudden and not at all realistic in any way shape or form. Everyone acts like a 9 year old oppositive defiant disorder kid and has what you could only define as a very 2D personality.

How this got vetted into being published is completely beyond me. The author clearly has... more>> no writing skills, and I could probably cook up something better with the same characters in less time and with english not being my main tongue. (Btw this is NOT a translator issue). Litterslly the MC starts crying out of nowhere and the author decides to make it a dialouge: "auhh huaa huuuu.... auuuuh" kill me already for f*ck sake.

TLDR: its very badly crafted and almost unreadable. The carscters are bad and so is the story. The idea is decent tho, and I appreciate the main lead not having huge b**bs like how it is in 90% of novels like this. <<less

I know I’m not very far, but from what I’ve read it’s the worst written villain (ess) story I’ve encountered.

The MC is passive to the point of continuity error. Like, I’m fairly certain he’s apologized for things that happened in a different draft of the novel. I know this sounds like an exaggeration, but there are actual scenes where he makes an agreement with someone, then when that person does the opposite of what they agreed, the MC apologizes in his own thoughts for breaking the agreement.

Inconsistencies like this aren’t... more>> just an issue with the MC either, though I’m not sure I can explain them well without spoiling scenes. It gives the vibe that the author’s using ideas, tropes, and scenes they’ve seen elsewhere without understanding how they affect his story.

The overall setup for the novel is also poorly handled. The MC repeatedly tells us in narration that he’s mentally both the prince and the Japanese man, but the way he acts doesn’t at all reflect the prince’s supposed personality, and in several scenes it feels like he doesn’t have the prince’s memories.

The set-up for the romance is even dumber: The FL wasn’t even a relevant character in the original game, she was a minor character in the tutorial and a part of a secondary villain’s backstory, with no dialogue except for “... ”, little to no characterization (the MC talks about how he’d made incorrect assumptions about her personality), and a generic design. Yet despite being this total non-character, before transmigrating the MC fell in love at first sight with her png to the point of actively looking for places where he can white knight for her online. Even as I write this out, it sounds like a parody of otaku culture, but the novel plays it completely straight. It’s genuinely baffling. Maybe there’s eventually a reveal that he was the prince the whole time and the other life was a hallucination or something, but even then it would still be a really bad writing move.

I could say more, but I’ve already spent too long on this. It’s just a poorly written novel over all. <<less

So far its feeling pretty typical for the genre, just that the pace of the story feels a bit higher then what I would rate others at. I feel that might be interesting in itself, as a lot of these get bogged a bit in the details, of the protagonist being so god tier with pre planning, its ultimately hard to tell at the moment, but its worth giving it a shot.

The FML and ML are seemingly a lock at this point, and I like that telegraphing. I bet we're... more>> in a for a pretty wholesome aspect in that regard... the yandere elements don't feel horrible at the moment, but maybe it'll escalate in an interesting way there as well. <<less
