The Infatuated Second Male Lead Doesn’t Exist [Transmigration into Book]

Description

Qin Mingyuan transmigrated. To be precise, he transmigrated into a danmei [BL/boy’s love] novel set in the entertainment industry. He became the second male lead – with the same exact name – who was deeply in love. To put it bluntly, he was a simp – the protagonist’s devoted admirer who provided resources and money. What a foolish, clueless, dog-like character!

He couldn’t understand but he was greatly shocked. How someone could be so s*upid!? Most importantly, this kind of idiot still bore his name! And he himself was now stuck in this idiot’s body!

Well, in that case, sorry, the devoted second male lead? Doesn’t exist! Emotions only affect his work efficiency!

Qin Mingyuan, the CEO of Qin Corporation who had always been like an unblooming iron tree [when the iron tree “blooms”, it means that the stoic non-feeling character falls in love] , fell for the young master of the Yun family who was in the entertainment industry. The Yun family. Previously unknown in the elite social circles of A City, came into the limelight and signed numerous projects that were previously unattainable to them. Who knew how many people were envious of such success.

However, the young master of the Yun family was difficult and continuously rejected his advances. Later on, the Yun family’s young master even got together with a movie star. That movie star was from another top elite family in A City, the Liang family. The onlookers were amazed by the young master of the Yun family’s resourcefulness.

Later, they appeared at the same banquet, and the melon-eating crowd was eagerly anticipating a show. Unexpectedly, CEO Qin didn’t even glance at those two individuals. He walked straight up to the Yun family’s half-disabled young master, bent down to hold onto the armrest of his wheelchair, and said in a deep voice, “Why didn’t you wait for me to come in with you?”

Onlookers: ??? Wasn’t he interested in the young master of the Yun family? Did they get it all wrong?

Pretending to be super stable, introverted, dark-bellied gong & a on-the-surface refusing and shy wheelchair-bound shou (whose legs can’t be cured)

Reading instructions:

This is a fluffy romance, 1v1

The bottom’s legs can’t be cured, absolutely can’t be cured, don’t ask, if you ask, I’ll get mad.

It’s a fictional world, and same-s*x marriage is legal

A face slapping novel with less drama, the romance being slow and steady and a person who's disabled stays disabled and not magically cured. Also Yun Pei is not described as a beauty or extremely gorgeous to make up for his "flaw" or anything like that.

And in majority of the cases, if one character is reserved, the other character might be extroverted, but here both MC and ML are reserved and not really a people person and they still click and have an unproblematic romance without any misunderstandings.

Overall a sweet... more>> novel. <<less

I liked the premise enough to keep reading for a while, even though the pacing dragged and the writing was repetitive. I overlooked a lot. But eventually it just stopped being even remotely enjoyable. What really pushed me over the edge was how the author handled disability. Or more accurately, how badly they handled it.

It is painfully obvious there was no research done on wheelchair users. None. The main character is constantly pitied by everyone around him, and the "good" people are framed as good simply because they are not... more>> outright disgusted or prejudiced against him. Ew.

Then there is the ML who repeatedly picks up the MC without asking, pushes his wheelchair without consent, and touches it like it is some kind of prop. Anyone who has spent more than five minutes listening to actual disabled people knows HOW deeply uncomfortable and disrespectful that is. It is not romantic or caring. It is violating. This happens more than once, and every time it set off every red flag in my brain.

The story also leans into the usual tired tropes where disabled characters are either tragic, morally questionable, or both. It felt careless and tone deaf throughout. I have seen this kind of thing in other novels too, so I guess some Chinese authors just love writing ableist content (by accident, I hope) about things they clearly know nothing about.

There is no subtlety here. Everything is spelled out like the reader cannot be trusted to feel anything unless it is repeated three times. It tries to sell emotional depth, but none of the characters have enough development to make anything land. Both the characters and the story itself are completely driven by cliché instead of any coherent reasoning.

There is no emotional logic to be found. They fall for each other out of nowhere, especially the ML, who goes from indifferent to enamored with almost zero buildup. It feels really forced.

The setting is vague at best and nonexistent at worst. It is just surface-level stuff and trauma with no real effort to build a believable world around the characters.

On top of that, it is slow. Like really slow. Chapters go by where absolutely nothing happens. And when something finally does, it is not satisfying. The writing leans heavily on the same five words and phrases, to the point where it feels like the novel is stuck in a loop. If you drink every time you see the word "pity", "mimosa" or "lion", you are not making it out alive.

The translation is fine. No glaring issues to warn people about there. But the story itself is a mess. I gave it 2 stars only because it kept me curious enough to read a few more chapters than I should have. But looking back, I regret not dropping it sooner and rating it lower.

If you care about decent disability rep or even just basic respect for characters, this will probably frustrate you. And if you do not care, well, maybe this will be your wake-up call.

Simply put, this is NOT a good novel. If you're hoping for a story that moves you in any way besides irritation, look elsewhere. <<less

This is hands down the best depiction of a disabled character that I have seen in chinese novels and a large portion of novels from western countries and Japan also don't even get close. It's as respectful as you can get without being written by a disabled person themselves. The disabled ML is attractive, strong willed, proud, and cute. You can really tell why the MC would fall for him. And he's not helpless! Despite that the author remembers when he would have trouble in a wheelchair and where he... more>> would be fine. If I have one nitpick it's that the house he lives in has thick carpeting which would make it difficult to get the wheel chair across but I can chalk that up more to the family that doesn't give a sh*t about him only putting in wheelchair access for their house to keep up appearances rather than any sort of care. Also like in the blurb he is not 'miraculously' cured. A concept I find rude and demeaning to the people in real life who don't have any 'cure'. Regardless of the story I will give it 5 stars for that alone, plus the story is pretty good. <<less

When I first came across this book, I was hesitant because of the 'slow romance' tag. However, I didn't have anything to read so I decided to give it a try. Fortunately, I did so.

This book is really good!

In most novels of this kind, the disabled MC/ML usually gets healed. However, there is no such thing in this story. Initially, I thought I would have a problem with the realism of the situation but I didn't because the author handled the disability extremely well. This aspect of the story is... more>> really deserving of respect and admiration.

Second, the characterisation of the MC, ML, and other characters is good and not forced. The pacing is excellent and the world background is well developed despite the shortness of the story.

Third, the 'slow romance' is actually not slow. Although the MC and ML don't get together until the second half of the book, their interactions are meaningful and full of implications. I really enjoyed the process of their falling in love.

For those who are hesitating, this book is worth reading and rereading. I couldn't stop smiling as I read. <<less

It's a very cliché face-slapping novel with flat characterisation, there's nothing fresh or creative, no twists either.

If you read this kind of "illegitimate child & evil mistress" novel before, then you won't find anything else here.

Three stars because of two aspects that made me finish it despite how boring most parts are.

... more>> ML's disability was handled very well, he wasn't magically cured, met people who condemned him because of it, but also many who treated him like a normal person.

His fears and insecurities were believable, too. Quite realistic and rare in Asian novels.

MC is a great partner. "I wait for you to be ready for s*x" isn't something you see often in BL, and it's not just empty words.

That alone should get two stars, kudos to the writer for being a decent person who doesn't promote r*pe.

Try it if you like melodramas, skip whatever seems boring, the story is so simple that you won't miss anything. <<less

4.5 ⭐!!! This story is so sweet! I love the MC, he is such a green flag and can be a bit of a tease. The ML is cute and thin-skinned, making the MC always want to poke him. But still, even though the ML is disabled, he is not always a damsel in distress. There are a few annoying antagonists, but they don't have much screen time, so the overall tone of the story is fluffy! Also, if you're looking for a story with a disabled ML who is... more>> not cured in the end, this is the story for you. Normally, I don't really mind if the disabled MC or ML is cured, but something different once in a while is nice. <<less

It is a nice read..

Got some problem feeling before reading, after look at reviews. Said that MC in some scenes disrespect ML by doing things excessively..

After read, kinda agree but in perspective of MC I can vouch that he really didn't mean bad by it. It's pure love and caring. I can feel it too. The kind of feeling when you like someone so much you don't want them to step on dirt.

... more>> I know it's excessive 😂 that's why I learn humanities to make my own moral line..

Anyway, it's a nice read. Not entirely awesome for this is your typical romance slapping story.

I also think the author just got bored and just want to write anything in here.

The development is okay

The world building is okay

The characters are okay

Not much creativeness but good writing

Tho, I'm quite disappointed as the author doesn't explain why he transmigrated, what happen to OG Qin, the end feeling of OG protagonist after
Spoiler

one being jailed and the other suddenly got engaged in marriage business

[collapse]
, what about the paintings, when they will have lunch with Uncle Yu Yan...

Honestly, I am really worried when I read the extras. Each time Qin wake up, he will suddenly go back to his previous world. It didn't happen but author doesn't explain either whether Qin really worried or it just like there literally no explanation on it.

That's why I also feel kinda unfair for OG Qin as well as OG Qin's parent, never knowing their son was replaced.

Not MC's fault indeed but at least as a reader I want to get some closure 🤷 <<less

This was so sweet and I liked that they didn’t try to fix ML’s disability, he was accepted for how he was and was loved like that! It’s so cute

Chapter 38 must be my favourite, I take it back 58 is

This all felt so natural, like guys, this was probably the most natural process to actually falling in love with another person

Chapter 58 THE BEST KISS SCENE EVER bro was the best it was flowing so naturally like the way they fell in love was so natural and wasn’t fast... more>> paced yet slow it was so beautifully done

They both had an interest in eachtowhr and it slowly developed. It was so beautiful like wtf

What I love the most if Qin Mingyuan didn’t stop his love or interest for Yun Pei because he’s disabled. Even though he wasn’t the most beautiful person in the world. Even though he had insecurities and everything like that. He genuinely likes Yun Pei for himself, how he is as a person and his character! This is like genuine love here like this is actually adorable. The way he called Yun Pei a mimosa plant is so cute! I love mimosas, I find them adorable. I like how he compared Yun Pei to a mimosa plant. The teasing, the vibes, everything was so natural and cute. Like you can feel the genuine love for him. UGH THIS IS SO CUTE <<less

Cute little story.

Pros

  • MTL is easily understandable
  • It's a quick read
  • MC & ML easily accept their feelings without unnecessary drama
  • I feel both MC & ML had a chance to heal & grow
  • Ml's disability wasn't magically cured. He faced real inconveniences, self-doubt, social anxiety, etc. But he also triumphed over it with his painting & love.
Cons

  • ML was too dependent on mc
  • MC manhandling a disabled man. MC constantly disarmed ML of his wheelchair & forced him into real awkward situations i.e. Cinema bathroom. It was cute in the story but I imagine it would crush someone's self-esteem in real life.
  • The antagonists were dealt with too easily but they were never a big threat so it wasn't surprising.
Regardless, I quite enjoyed this redemption light story.

MC is a green flag. Both are green flag. Shou is cute but not easily bullied. Recommended for readers who wants fluff and not overly technical when it comes to reading, who just wants to pass their time.

I like the MC and the ML so much. The misunderstanding between them was very minimal in my opinion. And there was no miracle of the disability being cured. Yun Pei was confident in who he was and I loved that about him.

I loved!! 4.5 stars! It would be 5 if there was a little more emotion, but I still liked it a lot 💙

MC and ML fell in love gradually and totally naturally, it was very nice to see them.

I love how, after chapter 58 in which they confirm their feelings, MC gets clingy to ML and ML reciprocates as best he can (although he's still shy).

... more>> As another review said, MC is totally a green flag, he always takes ML's opinion into account and never forces him into anything 💙

Super sweet story, there were some exciting scenes and the s*um got what they deserved.

100% recommended <<less

It's a good quick read. I actually quite enjoyed the simplicity of the story. The author did not drag things out so it balances the "cliche" aspect of the plot. Moreover, I love love love the pettiness of the lead characters

Spoiler

especially Yun Pei! He stayed in the Yun family just to annoy his stepmom and stepbro. And, I find it even more cute because he shared this things with Qin Mingyuan. So they are like friends who shares tea with one another and backstab the hell out of their annoying nemesis.

This is a gem.. 4.5 ⭐

No love at first sight.. No over the top doting or face slapping.. The characters are more realistic than most of the stories with CEOs..

MC - Composed, cold, matured CEO.. Decisive, caring, sly.. Quite typical, yet different.. He is such a green flag.. He fell for the ML slowly, after a long time of interaction, making the romance more natural and steady..

ML - Lost the sensation in his legs due to an accident.. Disabled for life.. But that could not snatch his confidence... more>> away.. He is strong and clever.. Even after confirming his relationship with MC, he is never a damsel in distress.. This is what makes him different from most of the ukes/ shous.. ML does not shy away from expressing his likings to MC.. It makes him so much likable..

Felt sorry for the original owner of the body that MC occupied.. Was hoping that he exchanged his place with MC.. Who knows where his soul has gone !!! <<less

It's a slow start. I was getting a bit impatient because the start is mostly about MC and his work and his view of life, but the reviews convinced me to keep reading and soon enough I was rewarded for having a bit of patience.

I love this couple. Their relationship developed so naturally and I love their interactions. It's a breath of fresh air, really; very healthy and lovely.

I also like the fact that ML doesn't get cured at the end. I mean, it is a thing worthy of celebration... more>> to be able to overcome such a thing, but I don't feel it's necessary for a happy ending. Especially not when other stories make it seem like the character overcame paraplegia because of their strong desire to be a man for the person they love. It doesn't work that way and being paraplegic doesn't make you less of a man. Hopefully one day I'll find a good story with a paraplegic gong that can't be cured. In this one, ML is the shou.

Anyway, I gave it 4 stars (it's more like a 4.2) instead of 5 because even though I love the couple, there's nothing especially exciting in the story. <<less

Good quick read. Highly recommended if you just want to have some light, quick, and fluffy read.

There's the usual face-slapping and some cliché characters (Ml's family) but its not that heavy. It's what makes the plot move but it's easily balanced by the gradual build up of romance between the leads.

The build up between the two leads was natural to me. It was subtle and just right. There were no grand gesture or anything; just them coming to terms that they love each other. MC is one of the greenest... more>> partner in bl that I have seen despite being "cold".

Their relationship is seriously just fluff, no toxicity and miscommunication are allowed in this relationship!

Spoiler

The only thing I would have liked is if MC had closure with his original world. There was a scene during when he was sick, the ML heard him muttering about not wanting to be left alone (?) or that he was also their son but that was just tr*shed I guess? I really thought there would be some revelation/confession scene about that. But then again, the story is already good and might become confusing if that path was taken lol I mean, we did have some semblance of closure with MC calling the og 2nd ml's mother "Mom" so imma take that.
