A man who can’t cultivate and just wants to “lay flat” becomes the chosen partner of a senior martial sister who has no intention of marrying. Thanks to a divine blessing from their marital bond, whenever his partner improves her cultivation, he receives tenfold returns. Whatever he gives her, he also gets back tenfold. As their cultivation grows, the multiplier increases too.

From that point on, Han Feng embarks on a journey of becoming stronger simply by lying down. While his partner diligently cultivates every day, he spends his time with plants, pets, and soaking up the sun…

Hard work may not guarantee success, but lying flat is definitely easy.

The novel follows a typical cultivation genre but lacks any standout qualities. The world-building is practically non existent, there’s no character development, and every character feels one-dimensional. The comedy isn’t funny, and the romance? What romance? In fact, most aspects of this novel are mediocre at best. I honestly can't find a single redeeming feature, or even something that's just "okay."

The worst part, by far, is the main character (MC). He is, without a doubt, one of the most boring protagonists I’ve encountered in a long time. He has no... more>> motivation and doesn’t do anything—literally nothing. He can’t cultivate and is completely dependent on passive feedback from his Dao companion. Sure, that explains one aspect of his laziness, but what about the techniques? Why doesn’t he improve his power by learning more techniques or studying them more deeply? Why not try learning alchemy or any other skill that could help his Dao companion and, in turn, receive more feedback? Instead, he just spends every day lying under the sun, doing absolutely nothing.

What makes it worse is his passivity when dealing with enemies. He never takes any initiative or seeks solutions. He’s constantly being assassinated and falsely accused, only surviving because of plot armor. Without it, he would have died countless times by now. There are so many other frustrating elements I can’t even be bothered to list here.

All in all, this is one of the most generic and boring novels I’ve read in quite a while. <<less

It's a very classic style cultivation novel... which I mean as a compliment.

On Novel updates many Chinese stories are ones that actually try to subvert standard tropes for comedic effect, which usually just drags down the story.

This story has it all.

... more>> An MC that genuinely just wants to live a peaceful life and is not pretentious (as opposed to purposefully acting like they are not while clearly still being)

The MC and his sworn brother genuinly are willing to go through hell for each other.

The MC is willing to not only risk but sacrifice his life for his loved ones.

The love interest being willing to die alongside him with phrases such as ''I have sworn to be by your side in this life. I pray that we will find each other in our next life again''

Yeah, it's all very classic stuff but fairly well executed and sadly something that you actually see pretty rarely.

Hell, most Chinese novels that are translated on novel updates have the MC get nauseous just saying nice words to a fellow man, it's pathetic honestly.

Sadly, the translation doesn't really cover much though. <<less
