Final Rating:

4/5. The character development is good and the main plot is resolved, but the ending felt rushed and unsatisfying with no epilogue chapters for the love interests. Some other minor issues are mentioned below.

Plot Summary:

Spoiler

This is a revenge novel. MC is stuck in a time loop and dies 100 times in many brutal ways, ranging from torture to su*cide. The book is about his 101st life where he decides to finally stand up for himself. There are 3 main love interests but there is no definitive conclusion for them as the novel ends abruptly after defeating the final villain.

Issues:

Spoiler

The MC was overly kind and naive during his first 100 regressions to the point where suspension of disbelief becomes difficult to maintain. This is fixed in his 101st life, but early on in his regressions his sister tortures him to death in an extremely graphic and painful way (loss of all limbs, buried alive), causing severe PTSD that haunts him up to his 101st life. How does the MC respond? By leaving her alone and not trying to kill her in response in any of the subsequent regressions up until the 101st, still believing she might be able to be changed.

I thought it was good at the start but then it turned out that his whole problem of his goal for regressions, was trying to fix was him failing to simp girls into true love instead of the actual problem of the crown prince repeatedly labeling him as a traitor and him dying. The farther you get into the novel more things get revealed about his past regressions such as the northern duchess also getting labeled as a traitor, MC saying he knew everything all along, et cetera, like all... more>> of this wasn't related at all and him purposely pursuing pain and the wrong path. The MC's iq is so low an ant would have a bigger range of thought. All the premises are so wack and filled to brim with plotholes it just isn't worth reading. And those with normal heads, this also 100% a harem with how there's been like 7 FL potential characters in 9 chaps.

Now in his new life where he chose to forget/disregard everything and had a clear goal, everything was disregarded and he is pointlessly pursuing a path to get involved again when he literally said a few chaps ago his current goal would be to leave the north and reach the southern ocean which was always his dreams. Forget leaving the family. Forget not joining the meeting of royals which he REPEATEDLY says brings him troubles, Forget not making troublesome connections, forget not backing down when you back down few paragraphs later despite paragraphs of you saying not to only to

I would've lowered my rating to a 2 if not for the interesting European Ambience / setting <<less

5 Stars. This novel is absolutely stunning, so far.

The MC is a character who's been through everything. Beheading, torture, betrayal, starvation, imprisonment, and even more death. And so, his wish in his earlier regressions, slowly morphed into a need for death.

You can also tell he's human. His regressions fizzled out his emotions, and he has his intense PTSD in which you don't see in regression based novels.

... more>> You can see his anguish in most chapters, and he's not a character that lets his life be dictated by others.

The beautiful writing and symbolism is also shown in the author's writing.

This novel could very well be one of the best Korean stories written if it stays true to it's path. <<less

Good start, then just repetitive and LONG drag to unveil his masterplan, AFTER FAILING 100+ TIME.

Why stop at 101st? Should drag for more~ need longer and more chapters to describe his deserve gruesome ends, to give satisfaction (not really) revenge.

Spoiler

Idiot tortured not one, not two but multiple. Multiple life. He still think he can save/change their way? On what basis? Just from his mother last word? Bit*h pls. Or maybe he just love getting tortured physically & mentally

[collapse]

I don't understand. He repeated 100+ times but sometime his decision is like he did not. Guess thats why he repeated that many?

Reading this just don't feel good with his smugness. He so proud of his achievement from previous route that his current action just seems lackluster. Because he still failed that route and other 100+ repeat.

Spoiler

Apparently some repeat he was a sword saint and very good fighter~ he so smug about it that he forgot he still failed that route and died like a dog he is

[collapse]

Especially if multiple repeat failed because of dumb sht. <<less

Peak.

Human emotion at its finest.

It might not be perfect in story, with a rather slow beginning and some plot holes or contradictions. But if you stick for a while, you will encounter one of the most beautiful portrayal of emotions among the Korean fantasy novels.

... more>> I hope you will give it a chance not for the world-building or good overarching plot, but for the main characters and their interactions.

My only warning is to not overthink or overanalyze it, you can find flaws in anything if you look hard enough. Just enjoy a good read, since there aren't many like this one.

*I will most likely edit this review after the translation is finished*

Spoiler

My only regret is that it's a harem.

Spoiler

MC, basically a dude that's traumatized yet naturally goody two shoes. Ever since he was 10 and so, he was tortured by his sister to become a proper "Taylor" but the trauma of his mother dying before that and telling him to "always be good, never give up on family yada yada" stuck to him and is basically his mindset. Fast forward 10 more years, MC is seen as meek and pathetic for being a good dude that does not suit the "Taylor" family ways. Mind you, what's normal to the average Joe is pathetic to these psychopathic ass motherf*ckers. A lot of rumors are being spread about him, etc., which can be speculated to be his sister's or crown prince doing to secure her position/prepare for his assassination. And after 2 or 3 years he gets assassinated, or rather framed for treason by the Crown Prince.

    • Plot twist: he has a relic that allows him to regress as long as his wish isn't fulfilled.

His wish? Typical of the goody two shoes, it's basically trying to have a good life with his estranged family and lover.

    1. Crown Prince: ambiguous mfer that has paranoia and control freak. Not like that originally. He tried to harness the four dragons resentment which corrupted him. Kills people left and right from the inducement of the dragon to break his mental.
    1. Theresa: gold-digger fake lover of MC. Only there for the money. Is also the reason why Marigen, the crown princess dies in previous runs. Sh*t stain through and through, but her end was nice. Cartoonishly evil, but her death arc gave her some depth, if ankle levels of shallowness can be called that.
    1. Adriana: never really that present in regressions, but important in 101st. Best friend of Marigen. If I had a nickel for each blind saint in novels that are goated AF and who I really love I'd have 2, which is extremely sad because best trope.
    1. Marigen: crown princess. Gets assassinated by the prince through Theresa. Was MC lover during his 35th regression and what made him turn into a sword saint / lunatic after she died. Kills MC in the 55th regression after his insanity arcs.
    1. Adele: best girl f*ck everyone. Stronk woman, gets ambushed by prince and dies, never getting to confess to MC in previous runs. Super tsundere but also an emotional blockhead at times. Yandere so she's peak duh.
    1. Jay: assassin/informant turned alchemist that helps the MC turned demigod being (not really but she's PEAK magic according to MC soo)
  1. MC: goody two shoes turned depressed ass f*cker yet subtly goody two shoes but also colder and more vengeful.
  1. Yuria: Psychopathic ass sister who never changed. F*ck her. Born with unfortunate circumstances but not that bad you'd pity her. She's f*cked through and through and I'm kiiiiinda satisfied with her ending.

He lived most regressions trying to patch things up with his family and finding out why the prince is framing him, which led to him being killed by his sister because obviously his lack of connections and his conviction as a goody two shoes didn't have help give him much of a lead which ended up with the Crown Prince framing him anyway. Which to be honest? Makes me dislike the MC. A tiny bit. The only time he KIIINDA got over trying to patch sh*t up with his sister is after what she said, which is basically boiled down to 'i wish you were never born' and shit. It's only after the 100th that he really decided sh*t don't work with her crazy ass. Mfer there's a limit to being a saint. Anyways, after the first couple regressions, he figured Theresa was a hoe. So he courted Marigen until the 35th regression. Yadda yadda same sh*t happens where he managed to find leads and sh*t on why he's being framed, and in the process he died, usually. But Marigen never really died. Well, until she was assassinated in the 35th atleast. Then he went crazy. Next 20 regressions was him going insane and basically killing everyone over and over, mastering different weapons throughout, usually ending up with Marigen subjugating him and him willingly letting her kill him, or he offs himself. There was also a mention on him becoming a sword saint but still killing the crown prince and shit, which lead to the princess having to lead her knights (500) and subjugate him. This was the 55th regression. Then he spent a couple regressions just insta killing himself. Some regressions he went to the north too, wherein he also found out Adele will get ambushed by the prince's nefarious plans. They never really got THAT close to each other. Well, nearly atleast. The time she was supposed to dress up and confess was when she dies. The rest of his regressions are both trying to see what works, trying to see who he can patch things up with, and why is the crown Prince framing him. Also emotionally distancing himself bit by but. During this time he discovered Jay, a former spy/assassin of the Imperial Family's personal organisation Icarus turned alchemist. She basically feeds him info on a lot of stuff but they never really got close until the 101st regression where she shared her personal speculations on why the prince acts how he is. Oh and also, it's only after the 100th regression did he finally give up on patching things up with his family. He also got proper revenge on those who wronged him this time and making a connection with Adriana.

Overall score for this shit?

  • 6.6/10 (Unseriously including the Yuria 0/10)
  • 8.2/10 (Seriously doesn't include Yuria 0/10)
  • 8.3/10 on plot. Gets dragged out unnecessarily sometimes, premise is clich but just aight. Execution was mediocre if you compare it to other regressor stuff, but I like the consistency.
  • 10/10 Adele f*ck everyone. RiP her though she ain't f*ck her mans yet like c'mon author give us some proper epilogue stuff man fuuuck.
  • Plain 8/10 on the other heroines idc. They're nice. That's it. Marigen is just wishy washy and iffy at best. Adriana is cute AF.
  • 6.5/10 ending. Wished it was longer and more fleshed out. Sh*t was anticlimactic as f*ck. I'd rate this lower but ending it on Adele kissing MC boosted it from a -69 to a 6.5 hell ye
  • 0/10 I wish Yuria got tortured and basically have Vladimir style impalement done to her. Shits nuts how she do be unfortunate birth circumstances but her choices were rough, not even psychopathic tendencies can protect her from being a sh*t stain.
