In the autumn of his 18th year, after winning the high school kendo championship finals, an unexpected accident occurred.

Due to that incident, Kang Mu-heon lost one of his legs, his closest friend, and his promising future. He closed off his heart and shut himself away alone.

A few years later, the world’s first real virtual reality game was announced, where even those with physical disabilities could play in healthy bodies.

By chance, Kang Mu-heon encountered it and began a new life as the mage Kapros, facing unexpected meetings, reunions, and days of change….

***

“Why was someone like you born into this world to make me so miserable? Do you understand when I say it like this?! You were born with talent for the sword, a bright personality, everything – you must have been laughing at me always lagging behind! Did you even know how pathetic I felt because of your s*upid hypocrisy? A genius? What does any of that matter!”

Seung-jo’s cries stabbed at his heart, wailing as if he were crying even though he wasn’t, but there was no time to think further. He quickly clutched my stomach, got up, and ran towards him.

He looked surprised for a moment, but he was desperate.

Just as the car was about to reach us, he shoved Seung-jo hard. Right after Seung-jo fell and rolled away with wide, startled eyes—

Screech!

Bang! With an impact that felt like his whole body was being shattered, he flew through the air.

And in that brief yet long moment of floating in space, he remembered his reflection in Seung-jo’s eyes for the last time…….

***

[ Then in THE MIST, may you become the master of infinite possibilities. ]

Whoosh!

When his vision returned after everything went white, he was standing in the middle of a bustling town. Amidst the clamor, countless people were busily going about their business here and there.

He looked down at himself, standing dazed and wearing clothes of unknown origin. When he touched the sleeve, he felt the texture of fabric as real as reality. His hair felt the same, and even when he touched the wall of a nearby house, he could clearly feel the solid, cold surface.

Is this… VT?

It seemed like a joke. It truly felt as if he had come to another world and was touching everything.

As he stood there unable to think due to the shock, he suddenly remembered the biggest reason he had decided to play this game, and snapped back to attention. His two legs were still as they had been when he first stood.

‘Can I really walk?’

He first stepped out with his left foot, then very slowly put strength into his heavy right foot. It felt like cold sweat was running down his spine.

And then,

He lifted it,

Moved it,

And took another step to touch the ground again.

So easily. As if there had never been any problem with this leg from the beginning.

“Ah…”

At that moment, something that was neither joy nor emotion shot up his spine. Suddenly feeling a lump in his throat, he lowered his head and leaned against the wall. His right foot, bearing his weight, was doing its job perfectly.

“…”

Holding back the tightness in his throat, he took another step.

It didn’t hurt. It wasn’t heavy. His leg was no longer a useless piece of wood that ached.

Damn it, to be able to walk so easily like this.

To be able to run so easily like this.

He had wished even in his dreams for the day to come when he could walk and run like this again.

And so he walked again, kept walking, slowly getting faster, until finally he started running like a madman through the entire town.

***

“Kap. …There seems to be a misunderstanding. That’s not what I meant.”

Just as he was thinking he should throw a punch, Yu-wan sighed with a troubled look and said.

A misunderstanding? How could it be a misunderstanding when he said with his own mouth that he didn’t think of me as a friend?

“I didn’t expect to receive such a question suddenly, so my explanation was probably too brief. Let me rephrase.”

Yu-wan reached out his hand, his face completely changed from before – intense yet resolute – as he stared at him. As he didn’t reject the hand suddenly approaching his face and kept his gaze fixed, his cool large hand touched his cheek completely.

A shiver ran down his spine at that moment.

“I’m sorry to say this to you, but I don’t see you only as a friend. …This is the complete answer.”

Erm. It was an ok read

Written very early on (!) Will update when completed.

Appreciate the author and translator wholeheartedly but in my personal opinion, just did not care for the MC (which is the central charm of a story!!!)

... more>> Really, really did not like the MC's personality. I know it's common for people to behave differently in game and real life, but the difference was drastic especially considering this is a hyper-realistic VR game.

I just couldn't take this setting seriously. It's like one of those typical socially isolated underdog become top rank 1 SSS novels except in bl form. And while those types of stories can be entertaining if done right, it's expressed in such an boring style here.

The points below may sound nitpicky, but they're impossible to ignore considering how they are the very foundation and are emphasised constantly (so far in the novel).

1) apparently he's the top mage player because imagining magic was too difficult apparently and many gave up at the early stages??? This is.. a game. You know how gamers are. Or even just normal people with a competitive streak. Not much more needs to be said. I looked for game novels as a gamer myself, so this is just very jarring.

It is laughable how people are consistently shocked at his skills. Bro didn't even know his [Detect Magic] could be used to.. DETECT THINGS????? Ok, this could just be chalked up to him being a total newbie at games but I just couldn't help but laugh lol.

2) Awkward, repetitive, with every other character (npcs included) he meets expressing awe at his mage skills, or handsome, unique and strong male characters falling for his supposed charm at the very first sight. Taking on a new class? Meets old sage. Looking for blacksmith? Meets master blacksmith.

3) Our MC. He is tolerable, loveable even, in real life. I did enjoy reading about his struggles, reconnecting with people he distanced himself from, the physical and mental recovery with the confidence gained from the game... but in the game itself, I'm speechless at how rude he is sometimes. Standoffish and cold, stubborn in an unendearing way. I'm a simple person- loving the MC and his interactions means I can turn a blind eye to all other ridiculous elements. But here, his every interaction in the game had me cringing.

4) 6 months passed with barely any interesting progress or plot, MC is considered strong because he studied multiple magic manuals, did some Google research and through the power of imagination, I guess.

i hate to be one of those that review when barely a few chapters in, but I just had to get this out.. hoping the story gets better later on. <<less

Kuyu-nim's old work before writing the never ending masterpiece that is Turning. Like Turning, the red banner in this red banner work isn’t really red, LMFAO. The romance is as slow as it gets too. Ughhh, it’s like a fetus cereal work, kek. (I just noticed the group that is working on this, used the cover without the red banner but that's fine as this is a kuyu-nim work pffft)

Still, it's one of the few 10+ volume works I enjoyed reading so much that I even bought... more>> this monster at full price on Ridi without waiting for a markdown. (Not that I ever waited for a markdown.)

Definitely a must try work if you are into VR Gaming BL (?) and want to try a KR take on that but BL. The adventure is fun, as you can see from the enormous number of volumes. I do enjoy my works having as many volumes as they can, kekekekeke.

Spoiler

Surprise !!! The spoiler isn't really a novel spoiler cause I am not into those LOLLL.

Just, regarding the translation. I don't usually comment on it as it's widely known that 90% in KBL are just edited MTL, but... I noticed they changed the first-person POV from the original work to third-person. Idk why... They also removed the stat windows.

For example:

As he opened the information window for the first time, a translucent window soon appeared before him.

STAT WINDOW SHOULD BE HERE

Everything except for "Mage" was at 1. He felt the need to quickly learn magic and level up. But...

Those are in IMG format in the ebooks. They might have missed it? Idk, but those are important in these type of works. At least, idk... write the translation inside those images??? Just a nitpick, yes. Since this work has over 15-20 images per volume. YES, PER VOLUME. And not including those is just ???? The ebook also has a world map and other stuffs, so I love all of those Images. ദ്ദി ˉ͈̀꒳ˉ͈́) ✧

Also some (Maybe more) mistranslations here and there, but all of that are minor compared to the stat windows lol.

[collapse]

Anyways. Still thank you for picking this up I guess. (˶°ㅁ°) !! ♡⸜ (˃ ᵕ ˂) ⸝.

I am rating the novel as is, not taking the translation into consideration, btw. Still a must read work I just hope the people working on this masterpiece keep some of my nitpicks in mind especially regarding the stat windows. <<less

Posting a review because this had me hooked the moment I started reading it. I've always been a fan of VR game novels like Overgeared or LMS, and had thought how great it would be if these had been BL. Well, Mist is sort of what you get! Definitely gives me the same vibes with its hidden quests, level progression etc. As you get immersed in how the MC grows in the game (and in real life).

Focus of Mist so far is definitely on the game and story elements, though... more>> we do have early signals of the potential ML (at least I think), but it's definitely setting up be a slow burn. Also lots of bromance moments with the other players that Kapros meets, though it's almost like Kap is collecting a harem of guys as they all find him super pretty lol.

Lastly did I mention this is apparently by the same author as the GOAT BL novel Turning!!?? Didn't know at first but Kapros/Mu-heon reminds me a lot of Yuder in his stubborn and persevering attitude. Overall this is awesome so far and I only wish the chapters were longer!

Edit: like the other reviewer Pompom mentioned the choices the translator made to switch from first-person to third-person narration is a bit jarring sometimes, as they'll address the MC using his in-game name instead of real name in real world settings which doesn't quite make sense. That being said it's more of a minor gripe I had and doesn't completely distract from the content. <<less
