It was ok; one of those where everyone is gay/bi kind of stories. I personally don't like that trope but 🤷🏽‍♀️.

Updated the tags to include the r*pe of a major side character, turned to lovers. 🤢🤢 ML is the master MC is a shadow guard, ML slowly changes from being a cold hearted master to caring for his pregnant guard and he's excited for the baby.

The summary was confusing for me but in short, it’s...

The Shadow Guard got pregnant with the master’s baby. While solving some cultivation world issues, the master takes the shadow guard along to feel at ease and take care of him.

LIKES:

  • It’s cute, there were several moments that made me go awww
DISLIKES:

  • This story has a lot potential! However, it’s not so polished right now. The POV keeps on jumping and the plot aren’t tackled deeply, everything went by quick. Even the interactions with MC and ML. For example,
    Spoiler

when, ML disbanded his harem for MC — this is a good moment to emphasize the emotions between MC and ML but it wasn’t

    [collapse]
  • The scenes also jump a lot. I didn’t know what’s really happening, there are also a lot of side characters and it’s confusing because we don’t get much background about them and they just keep popping out
  • What made me continue reading this novel despite ^ is because I was very interested in knowing what really happened to MC and ML, like how they ended up spending a night together. Because, ML always has many shadow guards around so what really happened that night. Up to the end of the story, this wasn’t really tackled. I think the MC just said that he also can’t remember much and he just recalled suddenly waking up beside the master or something.
FINAL RATING:

  • 3.5 🌟
  • The premise of the novel is very interesting. I would love this novel a lot if it was delivered better. Right now, it’s like a rough draft but it really has a lot of potential! The narration, switching of scenes and introduction of characters just need to be done more.

Okay, so the summary is really crappy. I mean, it does tell the gist of the story, but that's not actually how the whole pregnancy was revealed. I don't know if that was the authors original plan, and they just never fixed it, but it irks me.

Anyway, a lady creates a drug to give a guy so he can get anyone pregnant because she wants to entrap the guy she likes, doesn't end up using it, and eventually gives some to her friend. The friend uses it because she wants... more>> to be the first of the male leads concubines to get pregnant. She sneakily drugs him with it, then something happens and she gets called away before she can do the deed. He's now under the affects of an aphrodisiac in the air, and the only one around is his shadow guard, who also gets affected by the scent. When the shadow guard wakes up, he realizes that they're under attack outside the residence and goes to help. He thinks the whole being-naked thing is weird, but he's in a rush so he puts on his clothes and leaves without seeing there's someone else in the bed. When the male lead wakes up, he thinks he just took a nap and his clothes are disheveled, but neither have any memory of anything happening, so it gets forgotten. Later, the lady confronts the shadow guard IN PRIVATE and is caught by the male lead and reveals all. There is no big announcement in front of the whole world. It's basically just those involved and whatever shadow guards happen to be nearby to overhear. In fact, they go out of their way to keep the drug a secret to prevent anyone from using it against another's will.

Hmph. I feel better now. So here's the actual review bit.

The shadow guard is the main character (MC). He's a very dense person when it comes to emotions, and this gets slowly solved as the story progresses. Having a kid and falling in love eventually causes him to grow as a character and show a very maternal side. He opens up and begins to express himself more as the story goes along. The male lead (ML) is basically an OP, rich guy who's bored out of his mind. Finding out the MC is pregnant peaks his curiosity, and causes him to give him special treatment and take an interest. Finding out the baby is his awakens an extremely paternal side to himself. While paying so much attention to the MC due to the pregnancy, he quickly notices things he likes and falls in love.

It's a short story, but a good one. A mix of political/martial world stuff, and daily life fluff. The r*pe tags have to do with a side story.

The only real downside is the translated names. The shadow guards are named 1-17 depending on the order they joined. The translators leave the pinyin names for the shadow guards. I suck at names, so rather than reading "Shi Er did this" and "Shi Yi did that" I'd much prefer "Twelve did this" and "Eleven did that". It's much easier to differentiate that way, but that's just me. Overall, I really enjoyed it as a more or less laid back story. <<less

The story had a lot of potential but definitely came across as half-baked.

I think the author had the idea then rushed forward without thinking through the details because it feels like there are two stories forced together. There's the more interesting process of the shadow guard's pregnancy and then the typical mysteries and conspiracies of the jianghu.

With only 60 chapters, trying to do both plots means they both come up short. I think this would have been much more interesting and funnier if the whole story had focused on the... more>> pregnancy. There could have been twists and turns discovering things about the pregnancy and more development of the MC and MLs feelings and other possible side plots rather than the usual good sect/demon sect conflict thing. Even the side couple story could have been kept but presented in a way that made sense. <<less
