Neris Truide, our FL, leads a miserable life as a distant branch of one of the top noble families, exploited by the main branch, the Duchy of Elandria, and the imperial family because of her jewel eyes which are rare eyes of power from the lineage of the three founding heroes of the empire. She is ultimately killed soon after her marriage to the filandering, foolish crown prince and betrayed by her adopted Elandria family.

She wakes up to find herself regressed and vows to never be the fool and swayed by her insecurities in order to exact revenge on those who tormented her in the past life. The FL is smart, tactical, and practical and eventually finds an unlikely ally who had never shown up in her previous life, the Duke of Maindulate, an upperclassman at her school, striking a deal with him to help him direct the chessboard of the empire.

I really enjoyed this novel. The side supporting characters all have their own personality. The minor villains and major villains are very well done. And the intrigue is not dumbed down for the audience, but is rather a complex spiderweb uncharacteristic of most revenge plots where we mostly see only what's directly in front of us. Instead we get to see the spiral of how each plot point connects with the next as it tightens its noose at the center. And it's not everyday that we see a FL who doesn't act rashly in her revenge, but is able to put her feelings aside to catch the bigger fish instead of arrogantly putting herself in more danger.

And the romance between the FL and ML is very sweet. We see them both save each other at different points of the story, as well as the deep respect and trust they've cultivated in each other. I love me a healthy relationship and this couple is one of the healthiest. It's chef's kiss! The way the ML trusts the FL's strategies, predictions, and advice, and the way the FL trusts the ML to execute all her plans perfectly is literally the most gratifying thing to witness.

I don't really have a bad thing to say about this novel except that the 2nd ML was completely unnecessary. All in all, this was a fun ride. I can see the conclusion is not that far off, and I can't wait to see how it all pans out. It's definitely worth a read if someone fan-translates on her. And it's definitely worth the coins if you end up reading it on official translations [I'm currently reading this on Yonder]. <<less
