Love this novel !!! My top novel on my list.

I been with this novel since it started and had kept up to date with it. I reread this novel all the time when I have nothing to do because I love the ML and the storyline. I love the ML my empress Shen Miao. She knows how to get back at people who dare to mess with her. The MG is so cute and he knows how to get the ML. I was not disappointed with him at all. The story and the characters are interesting.

You should try to read this very good novel if you don't know it.

In FL's past live.....

FL offered a bowl of water to a Taoist master on her way back from the Chin country back to Ming Xi country. The Taoist master advised her not to return to Ming Xi country but FL said she has to because of her children. In return for the bowl of water, the Taoist master gave her a strand of red thread.

After her return to Ming Xi country, one day after a function, she was drunk and met ML. ML was about to leave the country for a war and FL offered a farewell wine to ML for his safe return. She has also given the red thread to ML. ML promised to fulfill a wish of FL when he returns after the war.

Pei Lang could not forgave himself for playing a part in pushing FL to death. He went to seek advice from a Monk and the Monk said he can help FL to relive again but Pei Lang needs to sacrifice himself when the time comes.

ML attacked Ming Xi country and found out from his staff that FL's remains could not be found as the cold palace was burnt to ashes. After FXY and Lin Mei Ren (FXY's consort) were killed, the red thread disappeared. ML assumed that FL's wish was to see the end of Ming Xi country.

Lin Mei Ren burnt everything that was related to FL but there was still a part of her soul attached to the red thread that FL gave to ML hence she could not leave the world peacefully.

Hence the reason why FL was able to time travel back to the past to relive her life again.

I love this story, the one that qualifies low is because he did not bother to move forward. Some parts develop slowly but still interesting. Also, has many emotional moments, memories of the past life of the protagonist, but manages to overcome over time.

IMO, how smart the characters can be is heavily dependent on the the author/s is/are per se. So far what I can say about this work is that the author is very smart. For one wallowing into web novels after years of dwelling in John Grisham level works, it's obvious that a webnovel is almost like a practice area for authors. THIS novel, however, is certainly publishable work that it won't be surprising if it got taken down (Please don't,) because it got licensed for publishing (although the author sure... more>> deserves it, have mercy, don't take away my baby, LOL).

I love the MC, she's smart but reasonably ruthless. Though I understand some critiques pointing out how there are innocents, like nameless background characters (maids, etc.), who get dragged into the drama and turn into collateral damage, well, it certainly can be circumvented. That is if you want a totally flawless MC but personally find it reasonably unreasonable, think about it, after all the MC had been through I think it makes sense if she gets momentarily blinded by anger and hate that she doesn't give a damn about anything else but the closest to her... though I gotta admit the lives ending like they're no big deal in Chinese Novels take me aback especially at first... You can see however, at least as far as 147 that the MC is kind of regaining her...humanity? Though that might make her weaker....

If there is anything to say about the author its just that it seems she created the male lead based on her fantasy guy, then she starts using an entire paragraph to describe just how charming he is (or how in love she is with her own creation...[is author sama even a she?])... my Lord, I share the translator-sama's sentiments (added entertainmentXD).

Anyways, great novel.

This was far most my favorite from the lists of novels I've read. The characters, the story and how it progressed~ so satisfying to read. The slow romance between Shen Miao and XJX ~ I love it!

Quite long if you consider the parts. This novel is engaging as it goes, most parts are longwinded and draggy af. Also repetitive like most time traveling/transmigration novels about her being a dumbass due to rumors and yada yada. Ofc everyone just trusts rumors -w-... But the novel itself is quite interesting and the romance is slowly developing (the Male lead is a tease lol). I'm just getting annoyed with how the author keeps on describing how hot the guy is and female lead having a queen aura, isn't the... more>> most beautiful but blah blah dark pupils icy eyes. The schemes are nice and planned ahead of time. It really is draggy tho I'm starting to get bored..i just want more the revenge already :< <<less

Shen Miao was once known as foolish and good for nothing. However, after a Rebirth, she not only makes a drastic change, but she also makes the choice to get revenge on those who wronged her. And if she picks up a great husband along the way, isn’t that even better?

Honestly, I thought that this story was pretty good. It could have been better, but I’ll never knock an author that plays to their strengths. I also think the drama can clean up the parts that weren’t good.

one of the best historical novel. XJX is the best. Though romance is not heavily focused but XJX devotion to SM is just 😘 chef's kiss

The Face slapping and the uno reverse acts of SM were Top Notch! I cried a lot also. A very great lengthy read.

I like this novel. FL return what ppl had done to her in full. I wouldn't say she's cruel. The people that want to do stuff to do had ideas that could ruin her life, defile her, worse. But she just avoid them and deflect them back on those ppl.

The ml... if everytime he had to be described as the most unparalleled beauty in the world and I do one push up. I would look like the rock. But I like how they had actual enemies to lovers relationship. Like... more>> he actually almost killed her at some point. In the end he spoiled her rotten and whatever FL said, he complied.

Good story. Read it. <<less

This would have been an easy 5 out of 5 but the author fluffed the story with a lot of repeated content. Mostly the fact that the MC is seeking revenge or that the ML was incredibly handsome. Or cruel to others. And the ending was also a bit strange, not quite fitting with the leads of the story.

The MC is Shen Miao, the only daughter of General Shen. Normally considered a s*upid and cowardly young woman, she has regressed after living as an Empress and immediately switches gears into... more>> becoming a sinister force that is willing to do whatever it takes to protect her family and destroy those who wronged her in her first life. She comes across as cold and manipulative but it's truly justified based on that last life and the schemes in the current.

Her father has two half brothers who have wanted to tear him down so their wives raised the MC to be s*upid while her parents were at the border.

None of them consider that their lives are only as good as they are because of the MC's dad.

The ML is Xie Jing Xing, an aloof young man who has an identity far greater than what we initially see. He starts out cold and aloof but takes an interest in the MC after he witnesses her scheming. He falls in love before she does and is more than willing to help with her schemes.

We are given a brief glimpse into the MCs first life before she dies and returns to being a 14 year old girl. Immediately, she begins to enact her vengeance on the Second and Third families in the Shen Household. We also are told (repeatedly I might add) that their schemes against the MC as a child were nothing compared to what she went through as an Empress so she easily trumps their plans. In fact, you almost feel sorry for the villains because they are so very ineffective against her.

For example, the first aunt she targets. This aunt tries to marry her off to a hedonistic and very sadistic Prince but the MC swaps the aunt's daughter into the situation.

Then orchestrates the daughter getting married to that Prince, the destruction of the Prince's reputation with the Emperor and eventual mu*der of everyone in his household (including the chickens and pets) but left the daughter alive.

Following that, she manipulates the Aunts eldest son into killing his sister, the aunt feeding her husband sterilization medicine and then switching the final plot against the MC's brother to target the Aunt's son.

The MC's actions can come across as a little brutal at times but it really is all about paying back what they wanted (or have done in the previous life) to do to her or her family. The majority of the novel is all about her revenge against her cruel aunts and uncles. That being said, they aren't really written as fully 3-Dimensional characters. All of them only have a single setting of "must hate Shen Miao" and it's dialed up to eleven.

Seriously. Self-preservation is not a thing for the villians in this story.

Not that it detracts from enjoying the story but it definitely doesn't feel like there are competent antagonists for the MC to deal with.

The final arc of the novel is the most lackluster.

The MC leaves her kingdom to marry the ML which eventually leads to her becoming pregnant just before he goes off to war. In between that, there is a weird subplot of the ML getting injured and the MC going to find a herb, only for her hated rival to show up. The MC's IQ apparently drops and this leads to her not explaining anything to him until a servant explains that the ML might not be omnipotent and probably needs her to explain she was freaking out about this woman who wrecked her in the previous life.

After some twists and turns, the war begins in earnest and off the ML goes to fight. We are then treated to a heavily condensed pregnancy (9 months in less than 9 paragraphs) and a disgraced General's family attempting a coup after the ML's older brother dies.

The ML the returns home to her in a coma just after she has given birth to a set of twins (first story I've read where the Imperial Doctors didn't diagnose twins until the second one was popping out). Then we have a few paragraphs explaining how the ML refuses all attempts to add to his harem, his crowning her Empress while shes unconscious and her family moving into the Palace to guard her and her sons.

Finally it ends with then having a picnic and her waking up after one of the kids pees on the ML.

Just... so weird of an ending.

The main antagonist does get a satisfactory ending but unfortunately, it happens off screen. But we also get told what happened to him in the original timeline.

In the first life, Prince Ding became Emperor and was tied to a post where he is executed by the ML. The ML also laments about not getting to honor the MC's promise for the pair of them to watch fireworks together (as he had reclaimed his true identity and the MC had been killed).

We also learn that the MC's soul lingered in the red string she had tied around the ML's wrist which allowed her to witness everything.

There are side stories which sort of tie up a few sort of side couples but don't really add much to the overall story. They also don't give a fully satisfactory ending for those characters as it pretty much just ends with a "choose me" kind of finale.

Also, the author was really fond of using one negative word repeatedly when some was mad at a woman.

Seriously, it would have been nice to see the characters call other women something other than sl*t. It didnt even make sense half the time.

It's really good, but the side stories not being finished bothered me. And like come on, the author could have given a longer chapter concerning the kids and the travels. I already voted but I want to tack off a star for not letting me see the full side stories, especially for doc and tan-er.

MCs are true villains tho, esp FML.

Shen Miao is a character I feel greatly about. I empathise with her hatred more than anyone else's. Probably because I feel like there is nothing worse than a parent burying his own child. And she did it twice. Anyways, story is kinda perfect in a way. MC is just badass in too many ways, ML is very charming despite the constant verbose BS that author likes to write about his beautiful appearance. Story progresses nicely and contains no fillers. Ends at a very good point and leaves you very... more>> satisfied. Highly recommended if you haven't read already. <<less

I loved the novel! It has everything I like: a powerful female lead, who is smart and gracious. The male lead does not disappoint either. I'm very picky about the novels I read, so this one stands out. Highly recommended for those who are crazy about romantic novels.

This is one of the best stories I have read about time travel, ancient China, palace intrigue and revenge.

It was refreshing how the MC wasn't an all-knowing, powerful figure because she returned to the past or how hard she had to work for her happy ending because there is not a good thing as a free lunch.

I liked how three-dimensional she was, she had both weak points and strong ones, she could feel more than one emotion in a matter and the writer tried to show the complexity of feelings... more>> as much as they are able to.

I also liked how the MC grew as a person as the story went on and how her relationships with the main lead were crafted. It wasn't like "Oh you act different I fell head over heels for you and am willing to do anything".

To make it short.

I really enjoyed reading it and would recommend anyone who isn't impatient or dislikes long stories. <<less

this is gold and I'm not exaggerating, I highly recommend it to those who like a scheming MC, a terrific love story, and a revenge plot. Also, It has a cute, supporting, and loving family. It got it all.

I am half way through and really like the clever MC, the ML is interesting, but god is this a slowburn romance because even now, the couple is yet to make any real progress other than doing each other favors and showing loyalty. It’s a great story but I do like to see the main characters get together and fight against the world together, I don’t much care for when it takes the entire story for two people to end up together. I want to finish it because it is... more>> a good story, but the author really just wants to tell us how uncomparably gorgeous the ML is at all times while not giving us any real fluff. The fluffiest thing so far is that he named a pet after her and is sweet to the pet lol like why make me wait soooo long to see ML treating the MC fluffy. Go on, give her the ML who will give her the world and make her empress and stop being coy 😭 <<less

What a journey, this one took longer than I expected to read. However, it firmly grasped my attention throughout the whole story. I don’t think I was ever bogged down during an arc. I was expecting a lighthearted read, well... , that sure wasn’t the case. This novel is actually quite dark in aspects. It goes into detail on some severely dark topics (torture and r*pe) Although these moments are infrequent, they are there. That said, the darkness added an extra element into the novel that made it much more... more>> addictive! I enjoyed the romance and relationships developed between characters, although a bit slow, it was satisfying! My biggest issue with the novel would be the some rough grammar in the translation, but it is still readable and much better than most Translated Chinese Novels. To conclude, this novel is captivating. Hell, it made me cry on 2 separate occasions. Any story that can evoke emotion in me is a win. (Unless the emotion is disgust). I wish I could give this a 4.5, but I think 4 is good enough! <<less

This novel is great. It made my heart beat fast from stress and laugh like crazy from joy. All the emotions of the characters are beautifully depicted and the author is like a person holding a string and pulling the reader along. Excellent characterization and excellent world-building. This is one of the most unique novels I have ever read. 😃👐
