I have been an avid web novel reader and this is the first review I have ever posted due to my love and endearment to this novel. PLEASE BEWARE - I have a belly full of comments which will include spoilers that I will not hide (mainly because I do not know how and I am too lazy to figure it out).

This is a story of court intrigues, schemes, revenge, and human nature all neatly written in a fun novel. Let me start with how I fell in love with... more>> the novel:

Chapter 1: In the first few chapters, I thought this will be another rebirth-revenge novel and since I am a big fan of Rebirth of the Malicious Empress of Military Lineage I decided to read the few chapters translated.

Chapter 2 - First Paragraph: I fell in love with Granny Shrew so much I knew that I will be willing to kill some brain cells MTL-ing this novel.

CHARACTERS:

All characters including Side characters, Passersby, hell even those who were not given names were so rounded in a way that we all, as readers, would have/have had and will probably meet someone like them in each of our lifetimes.

In this novel - no one is inherently good or bad. Not even both the FL and ML or their families and friends can be called good or bad. There isn't exactly an antagonist in the story. This story, albeit including court intrigues, is about the different facets of human nature.

ML: The ML is so bastardly shameless based on the novel era. However, ML's character was written so grounded to our current reality that his thoughts, comments, and reactions will probably mirror how we readers would have had reacted similarly if in his situation. The way he criticized and reacts is so fun to read that I feel like the voices in my head when I read novels have been given life.

FL: Reading her character feels like the typical OP FL whom everyone loves, adores, and listens to. However, based on my own impression upon reading the story - it is far from the truth. She appears Mary Sue'ish whom everyone loves and adore simply because, in comparison to the ML to whom she is married, she is indeed more loveable and adorable lol

Granny Shrew (Xu) : FL's grandma, you will love her! Either your grandma is like her or you know a grandma like her or will meet a grandma like her. Haha

FL Family, ML friends - are my favorite characters, I suggest you go ahead meet them by reading the novel.

Overall, this novel is written lightheartedly but as you read on, it will show human nature in its different facets. For example, the relationship between my fave Prince Fu and the empress broke my heart as the story progresses because reading it as it deteriorates is something not too far from reality. The only consolation I have is that every side remark I have in my head is voiced out by ML.

Please note that there are a lot of plot holes too, just like in any other novel. However, I personally didn't care. <<less

Hello, I'm the proofreader (PR) of LGLR (the duo translating this series) !

I stalk this series everyday, ahaha! Mainly, I love the male and female lead together! They are so cute! Though I love them individually as well, of course! The male lead can be considered a more standout type compared to the male leads of other novels, character-wise, I'd say.

The writer has a pretty interesting way of making situations occur, and I have been quite interested in the story developments.

Go ahead and try it out if you like it!

For readers who prefer none-to-little romance and comedy like me would like this book.

although there's some plot holes, those can be ignored. I really like ML as it's refreshing to read from many typical cold faced, cold personality genius MLs. He is funny, down to earth, sharp tongued, humane. (Although he act like s*upid but not really. He is just lazy.)

Also I like the fact that FL isn't crazy about revenge all time and cold like other FLs in rebirth novels.

One for all, it's really refreshing to read.

But I feel like there's some plot left. There is some unfinished characters. I wonder if there's extras or book 2. <<less

This actually seems really promising, the translators who uploaded on this site did a fantastic job.

There's drama, family world building, and the MC doesn't feel too OP either. Overall very down to earth and true to social etiquette.

I'm definitely keeping an eye on anyone picking up any further translation, because MTL honestly makes this unreadable. Had to stop after only a few more chapters and it's such a pity.

I really liked the beginning and wanted to keep liking it but then the story wasn’t that interesting anymore. There was barely any romance. It was more focused on court intrigues but I didn’t find them interesting. The recurring villains which I honestly don’t know how they kept coming back were not wading much to the story. It may be because of MTL but I wasn’t able to connect much with any of the characters. I rarely not complete a novel but wasn’t able to complete this one. This story does a good job of blending comedy with politics and romance. The romance is understated, so no pink clouds of love or over the top roses and swooning. I like that the MC is strong minded and the ML is a bit cowardly, I hope MC maintains that as the story goes on.
