One of the seven strongest people on the continent, the King of Mercenaries.

He started a war to avenge his fallen family and destroyed territory but failed and lost his life.

However…

“Wow, I’m alive?”

I returned to the past, back through time.

A perfect opportunity to right my regrets and reverse everything.

It doesn’t matter if people around me point fingers, calling me a scoundrel, or dismiss me as tr*sh.

Because…

“I’ve got a plan.”

“What plan?”

“A plan to destroy everything.”

There won’t be a second failure.

This time, I’ll wipe out all my enemies.

…But first, I need to rebuild this damn estate.

If you came from the manhwa, I don't suggest reading the novel. Don't get me wrong, the plot is good. It's mostly about empire building and outsmarting his enemies but the storytelling is bad.

Author likes to drag a lot of the unnecessary parts too much to milk a lot of chapters. For example, MC tells some people the most unbelievable stuff and they won't believe him, and then few chapters later, they get humbled. It was fine until it wasn't after a couple of time of ab*se. OuRyed's review sum'ed... more>> this up. I'm more than 200 chapters deep and I can confirm it gets repetitive with no sign of change.

There are also lot of chapters that you could literally skip because it just a clutterfest of people reacting and complaining about how MC is doing crazy things. I read a lot of junk foods so I can tolerant this kind of stuff but author will ab*se the hell on it to the point that sometimes even after 5 chapters, the plot would still not progress. When it happens, I feel like I'm reading a bad Slice of Life instead. It won't be a fun read for a lot of people so I suggest to just stick with the manhwa. One of the rare instances when the manhwa adaptation actually saved the novel because they cut the unnecessary parts and is faithful to the action genre.

I'm still rating the novel a 3 star because there are actually moments when it peaks like outwitting his enemies by being resourceful and going to war. <<less

I was doubtful of the low rating and since I'm a part of a discord server of web novels where this novel was well-praised by a lot, I decided to give it a chance, but... It's sad, sad how people being fixated on denying the MC's strength and plans as s*upid then the MC proving them wrong is the focal point of this novel.

The novel explain in my POV:

Spoiler

MC: I wanna do this.

SIde-Chara: Just stay put and don't cause trouble.

(MC does something amazing and proves he is strong.)

(Side-chara goes and tells others how amazing MC is, just to be called a lair.)

Mc: I'm gonna do this.

The people that saw Mc's strength: It's too dangerous YOUNG MASTER.

Mc: I must do this.

Those people fusing until the end: Young master please stay still.

Mc: I will do this regardless.

Side-chara: You're crazy...

Mc: you listen to me.

Random-chara: No...

(MC beat them up senseless.)

And the scenario repeats.

However, I understand that people surrounding the MC would be worried, or wouldn't trust this sudden change, since that was second nature. And you may even find Balinda irritating but I honestly didn't, she was fine in my opinion tho I could see why others hate her.

Anyways, guess what would happen when he establishes himself as a truly strong and wise person in the future... Yeah... Just guess.

[collapse]

I dropped seeing that the above could easily become a repetitive situation.

Spoiler

On a side note, people began trusting him a little, although just a little, which is quite an improvement from the start.

[collapse]

Well, I have gave it a chance appropriately and read till the last released chapters, but I won't read more than that. But ya should give it a try, ya may like it. Don't get discouraged by the low rating, cause guess what? I just found out that one of my absolute favorite novels is rated, 2.8 in another site and 4.1 in here.

With all said it's not like I haven't enjoyed a number of similar novels in my youth, so it's not at all bad (I would have called it excellent) if I were to go 5 years back in time. <<less

This novel is really frustrating. The main character’s mother, ... more>>
Spoiler

who was an assassin, died without leaving a trace, and there wasn’t even a letter from her. It would have been far more interesting if the MC had regressed as a baby, allowing him to save his mother.

[collapse]

One part I found particularly annoying was when there were
Spoiler

rat-like creatures in the forest of monsters. The MC decides to kill the rat queen instead of trying to tame it. I mean, it could have been such a huge asset if they had managed to tame it with the elf’s help for communication, and Alfoy could have entertained it with tricks. It felt like a wasted opportunity. And of course, the author made the MC kill the dragon when they could’ve tried having the elf stop the dragon’s rampage instead.

[collapse]

I hate how the MC always solves problems by brute force, and yet with the
Spoiler

dragon, they chose to kill it instead of capturing it. It was mind-controlled, for crying out loud! There was a chance to use it as an ally in the fight against their enemies, but no, the author chose to make the MC kill it. And what about the elf? Why didn’t the elf help? It just makes no sense, and it feels like the author wants the MC to act s*upid and blindly fight things like dragons instead of being strategic.

[collapse]

Honestly, it feels like the author is running out of ideas. The repetitive way the MC handles battles is tiring, and the plot is filled with huge holes. Take the
Spoiler

guardian dragon that was supposed to protect the kingdom—it's known to be wise, but the author turns it into a mind-controlled enemy for revenge, with the MC stabbing its heart and the others cutting off its head. It just doesn’t make sense.

[collapse]

I’m so tired of reading these poorly written novels that I might just stick to something more reliable, like the Recovery Bible instead. It’s clear the author is rushing, and it shows in the lack of consistency and common sense in the plot. <<less

This is a fantastic story. Of all the isekai and regressor stories, this one has been such a refreshing take. There is no unrealistic romance or cliche plot traps. I love the storyline and the characters are relatable and delightful to get to know. I have laughed so many times reading this story.

It is a well thought out story with many details considered. I did not expect to find a story with depth like this given how the webtoon version portrayed the characters. The successes and achievements of the protagonist... more>> feel truly earned and he acknowledges the limits of his regressor knowledge. <<less

Its ok, interesting at the start where you find yourself invested in the MC to turn his life around. However it becomes obvious how repetitive it is in its' process. MC has a crazy idea, people doubt and object to it, somehow it works out in the end. If I had to describe the story it literally follows these sequences every time, every arc, without anything really deviating from the formula. And like many other comments had said, you can skip a few chapters in between and you wouldn't really... more>> have missed anything important. Despite all these flaws its a okay read, but if you do continuously read it, the pattern does become so obvious you sort of just skim through it to know the conclusion of the issue for the arc, which again is also obvious in how it concludes. <<less

This is very good. It does not have any problems one bit repetitive in some scenario's because the MC is able to pull a rabbit out of a hat everytime. Which makes everyone shocked. That aside, he does struggle a lot. Its really difficult for him to make it but he accomplishes stuff that is unbelievable. Even so, its really not easy. Imagine, with his regression he's having so much trouble. If he didn't have it, this was impossible.

Its average. Most, if not all of the plot progression is accompanied by retainers and followers expressing their doubt in MC.

It gets old fast as its every chapter for a while, but when its not about terrority building, it gets a little interesting since the author does something different each time.

Read if you're bored or waiting for something better.

Not really a fan of this one. For a fantasy regression novel, its below average across the board. Not downright horrible but something you'd read only if you really got nothing else to read.

The narrative is deceptive. Initially chapters are action focused while later on it transitions heavily into kingdom management. Modernization and restructuring of the fiefdom in addition to technological and societal progress. A good 70% of the novel to be exact. So this might not sit well with some readers.

Now, I always welcome kingdom building and empire management... more>> plots as long as they're well written, with prior research and planning of the storyboard like the novel 'Release that Witch'. This novel though, is a mess. A lot of liberties were taken; because it's fantasy and magic. Processes and details were touched only at a superficial level. For example new modern tech just works because its magic. Implementation of political & national reforms, building of infrastructure and research & development were not explained in detail on the processes, how it works, the progress, any unintended impacts, challenges faced and so on. Moreover these reforms only take mere weeks, always ends in success, don't run into any difficulties and has no repercussions, which is total hogwash. Its all far fetched and running in easy-mode. I get that it want's to follow in the footsteps of 'Release that Witch' but so far its just poorly executed. Overall the kingdom building and management aspects are just extremely shallow and badly written, it becomes a huge issue because 70% of the novel is about kingdom management. I'll be upfront, author does not have the capability nor skill for this type of storytelling.

There's also the fact that the hurdles in kingdom building are so easily resolved and dumbed down. Not enough wood for houses, let's chop some of the neighbour's trees. Not enough money, let's secure that infinite runestone mine. Not enough leather, lets hunt monsters in the other kingdom. In reality, resource procurement isn't that easy. You'd have to consider budgeting, sustainability, reliable & secure supply chain by diversifying the source, effects on supply and demand in the market, bureaucracy & geopolitics of kingdoms and merchants, the sheer scale of logistics required, production input/output efficiencies and many more factors. Its not as simple as depicted in the novel. Life is not like a game where you harvest 15 iron nodes for 30mins, store it in your bag and it basically provides enough ore for an army of thousands for 5 years.

Another grating factor is the over reliance on the main character to solve all problems. He is the strongest fighter, the top scientist, research & innovation expert, the most talented politician, the pro infra & city builder, the best strategist, the best leadership as a general, the... You get what I mean. What's the point of headhunting talented people when you're the one providing solutions and doing everything, being the subject matter expert of every field. His knowledge from regression gets ab*sed to the point of absurdity.

The author also has a warped perception of time. Novel keeps saying that recovering the economy and rebuilding will take years but the plot moves within weeks or months. Political reforms, rebuilding of infrastructure, training and equipping an army etc completed in a few weeks. The fiefdom suddenly becomes fortified, stable, productive and combat ready in slightly over a month.

There's also little to no cascading effect from altering the future. The protagonist takes full advantage of his regression knowledge to manipulate future outcomes however it results in very little change in the timeline. All major and minor events proceed as per the original timeline. There was no butterfly effect, minimal divergence from the timeline. Its s*upid that an enemy gets countered by the MC due to his knowledge of the future but still chose to use the exact same strategies again as per the original timeline. MC's meddling of the turn of events result in no change, literally. The narrative is just atrocious.

Characters are a mixed bag. Its heavily focused on the protagonist which means secondary characters hardly get their story arcs and character development. Which is a shame as they're interesting & likeable characters at first glance. On the bright side, our main character gets all the growth.

Having said that, the chapters dedicated to the war were good. Personally I find the battles boring, its basically people shouting and screaming. Author isn't very good at translating a fight into words. Things like tactics, strategy & battle maneuvers though were enjoyable. Of note, I find it amusing that the writing has the style reminiscent of chinese Wuxia and Xianxi novels. Some may cite Murim inspired but there's clear characteristical differences between Korean Murim and Chinese Wuxia/Xianxia. The humor feels like the 90s chinese sitcoms, the level up system has similarities to xiandao cultivation while the characters mirror that of xianxia/wuxia sects.

Pretty mediocre novel overall. Feels like a cheap kingdom building knockoff of 'Release that Witch'. It sets out to be a kingdom building novel but failed in the kingdom building narrative. Honestly the author should just stick to the narrative of wars and battles, they were decent enough. <<less

I want to start by saying I love this webnovel but it's not for everyone.

It's slow. It really leads into the kingdom building aspect and fleshes out each step of the process.
Spoiler

Even has a college recruitment period in order to get more administrators to run the place.

[collapse]
On the flip side, when the Protagonist actually is successful it feels deserved versus just being plot armor.

The author does a lot of planning, stuff mentioned as a passing comment may become a major plot point 50 chapters later. The characters are great, lots of growth and a big crew at that.

Spoiler

Claude and Alfoy have to be the greatest comedy duo in a webnovel. Alfoy, the man who defied a God.

[collapse]

It's not a harem, there's really not a hint of romance. The battles get larger and larger, but at a responsible speed.

I started reading this because I saw the comic, but honestly I think the novel is better. The characters are less one dimensional and "spidery."

Its great. Its not bad at all, bit repetitive in some scenario's because the MC is able to pull a rabbit out of a hat everytime. Which makes everyone shocked. That aside, he does struggle a lot. Although there are some repeated tropes of the side characters doubting the main character, that does change the deeper you get into it. Also, some of the side characters are comedy gold XD

If you like world building, regression, and a crazy bastard of an MC that dominates wherever he goes (but also pushes himself to his limits), then you'll probably enjoy this story.

If you don't like repeated incidences of side characters doubting the MC and being proven wrong time and time again, then you probably won't like this story as... more>> much. <<less

Overall the story is decent, it has good pacing and an interesting plot, so it ranks higher on my regressed category list. While there are some faults with plot devices being overused, once you get passed them and into the meat of the story things really begin to pick up. I have ranked this a 4/5 simply because of the potential and that once the story picked up some of the faults start to disappear. If you don’t like the use of plot armour as a reason for advancing a... more>> point I don’t recommend. However, if that doesn’t bother you and you want something that doesn’t constantly drag out needless side story then I highly recommend. <<less

The fact that this novel has no harem already earns it a bonus star from me. Beyond that, despite a few illogical moments and some repetitive scenarios, it’s genuinely an enjoyable read. It’s not a masterpiece, but definitely a notch above your average webnovel.

The story stays mostly on track without too many pointless detours. Sure, the battle scenes and character development can drag a little, but they didn’t bother me too much.

Now, the real highlight? The comedy. I legit laughed out loud multiple times—especially during Claude and Alpoi’s scenes. Those... more>> two are comedy gold. Their banter is sharp, the timing is perfect, and the characters themselves are well-written and genuinely funny.

My actual rating would be a solid 3.5, but honestly? It deserves a 4. So, I’m giving it 4 stars. <<less
