Philia, born into a lineage of saints, was considered by her parents to be nothing but serious, lacking charm, and a dull child. They subjected her to rigorous training. As a result, she grew into a talented young woman who was acclaimed to possess the greatest power in generations and became engaged to Julius, the Second Prince of the kingdom.

However, Julius, after meeting Philia’s younger sister Mia at a party, fell in love with her and unilaterally broke off the engagement, as he wanted to marry Mia. Moreover, so Mia would not feel awkward, he arranged to sell Philia to a neighboring kingdom lacking a saint, in exchange for gold and resources.

Sensing growing numbers of demons and foreseeing calamity ahead, Philia warned against this, but Julius refused to listen.

Cast out by her parents and even the King, Philia was sent to the neighboring country almost as if she were banished.

While she was being hailed as a hero in the neighboring kingdom, her homeland was on the brink of collapse due to the menace of demons.

Super excited to see the novel version of this being translated, especially since the manga stalled.

First I want to say the translator is doing a great job and their site looks really cool. I did panic initially at the font until I realized the “fancy” bar at the top could be lowered to make it more readable. The ability to click a characters name and see their face and title is going to be so helpful in later chapters.

Second, I really appreciate the characters in this story and I have... more>> high hopes for the FL. At this point, she is very open about being “boring” and perceives herself as unlikeable. However, I think she’s worked so hard for so long she’s never been allowed to have things like preferences or hobbies. I am hopeful that as she is surrounded by people who care, we get to see more characterization but for now she is something of a blank slate. I also really like the FL’s sister Mia. She is perceptive and loyal which means she isn’t going to let her sister’s disappearance go forgotten or unavenged. <<less

As good story that isn't bogged down by filler or unnecessary fluff, with a plot that keeps moving and scenes that get to the point. Rating it 5/5 to weight the rating, but also because it's just a solid if simple story.

Has the plot where a saintess other than the MC is the favored one, leading to MC's unfortunate situation. However, this other saintess (MC's sister) isn't a b*tch, the two get along, and they care about each other a lot. She also has no feelings for the ex-fiance who... more>> broke off the engagement with MC to marry her. Basically, the two never come into conflict. As of chapter 46, MC hasn't come into conflict with any of the other saintesses we've seen either. It's a breath of fresh air compared to other similar stories.

Its lack of depth, quick pacing, and lack of romantic development (and being kind of weak on the romance part of the story, tbh) are its faults. As of chapter 46, the romance is low-key in general, though the relationship between the MC is Oswald (who I'm assuming is the intended ML) is very sweet. Drama and plot is mostly fighting demons/politics-related. It's short (both in chapter length and total story arc length), and a lack of filler means a lack of detail and content that readers may be interested in. But it makes for an easy, fast read. If you like the genre and need something to read you can't go wrong here. <<less

Ok a few things to preface this review:

  1. This is only for the webnovel part (110 chapters), this series has light novels and the web novels only cover the first 3 novels, so I have no idea what the continuation is about
  2. The translating site was a fresh experience in a good way, characters having a picture with them (if they appeared in the manga) and having color so we know who the "he/she/her/him" is reffering to is very nice, its not for everyone but can be turned off
  3. I really like short self contained stories (like a light reading of 100 - 200 chapters), where is like "this is the goal" and when the goal is achieved its over (demon slayer, deungeon hunter, seoul station necromancer, dimensional sovereign etc) Like it botheres me if the synopsis is like "They got kicked out/betrayed" and then the betraying party regrets it and its like chapter 40, and then I look and theres 500 chapters... its not why I started reading (some isekai and a lot of cultivation stories are guilty of this, but this is specifically for stories with that synopsis, if its like "They went to another world" then anything goes since even their daily life in another world would go under the synopsis)
So this story, I really like it. The side... more>> characters are solid, ill mention it later but in case you skipped the spoiler tag, look no further than her sister carrying the first act so badly that probably most of the readers liked her better than the MC for the first part of the novel.

The whole story (at least the wn part) is given in the title and then we just explore and solve each of the underlying circumstances of how it came to this. Basically the saint was too perfect and sold to the neighbouring kingdom. Ill broadly explain why this contains the whole story so ill just put the spoiler tag.

Spoiler

Basically the nieghbouring kingdom lost their seintess, due to an influx of monsters. So they were looking desperately to get a new one. Just so happens that the stars aligned (and put together the dumbest people on the planet *khm* I mean) and their neighbours (where MC is) decided to sell the most powerful person on the planet (parents didnt like her as much as their other daughter that was also a saintess (explained why in the story), and the prince was scared of her, wanted to marry her sister instead, also she was making medicine for the king, which the prince also wanted to get rid of).

The prince tells her shes dull becauses shes perfect (because she was trained by her master very harshly during childhood to deal with anything that comes at her (due to masters plot twist reasons)), and she just naturally doesnt express much emotion. So this is the setup and then parts of the story all evolve from this:

First part: After the sell, the early story is really carried by the saintess' sister. She actually figures sh*t out on her own and steps up to take revenge for the sister while saving the kingdom from the prince (well his idiotic decision making during the upcoming crisis, like selling an op saintess). Meanwhile the "dull" MC opens up in the neighbouring kingdom that treated her warmly and with respect (as it should be shes basically the most op person in their world, and also really diligent and kind).

Second part: The influx of monsters gets worse, and the 400 year crisis decends, so the MC does some character growth (personality not power wise) and with the help of others resolves it, this is still related to the title since the previous saintess died due to the influx of monsters due to the approaching crisis

Third part: The main bad guy shows up (the demon duke mentioned earlier in the story) and posses the prince she was engaged to, so we deal with that, this is still mostly related to the second part and so the title and its circumstances

Fourth part: The pope dies, and she is named as the next pope, but she suspects somethings wrong since nothing like this happened before and due to new circumstances she just really doesnt want the position, also the one passing on the will is the brother of the deceased saint. So this is still related to the circumstances of her being sold.

And thats it, thats first 3 LNS. The story is really straight forward for example in the last arc

Spoiler

They were like if a god wakes up they are very angry and try to kill people. Thats why we have this staff, if they wake up it puts the to sleep again. In like 10 chapters bad guy wakes up a god, knocks some people out, the MC uses the staff and he went back to sleep (this was like 50% of 1 chapter) I was like... huh, well I guess that happened, so ye like I said really straight forward as far as the boss fights go, they might go into more detail in LN though not sure. I was disappointed that they didnt explain more about the previous saintess (it just said she was sickly and ended up dying, I assumed it was due to the influx of monsters and she overworked herself but the real reason was never stated, although it was mentioned multiple times that she tried her best to make the country better and protect it, so her dying to the influx of monsters while having a bad constituion is not a big leap in my opinion) and her dad, but considering LN 4 synopsis mentions to go a bit more into dad lore, the saintess might get more of a backstory too.

[collapse]

All in all a read to my tastes, a "short" story that introduced a concept and throught the story explored the circumstances of that concept. I might come back to read the future novels that are translated past the WN, but Ill see about that because like I said, I dont like stretching out the original premise that I came for. <<less

It's a really good story. The only problem is that characters are as logical as real people, except villains who are beyond saving, so contrast breaks the immersion. Pace is a little slow but it fits rational and calm FL.

Translator went an extra mile to make reading story and picking it up after a break to be as easy as possible.

A nice and fluffy read! I can't say this was absolutely riveting, but reading this made me want to root for Philia, especially at the start.
Spoiler

I'm so glad she got a happy ending <3

[collapse]

The conflicts were not very compelling or worrying. The villains were two-dimensional. However, I'm glad for that because sometimes you just don't want an emotional rollercoaster. The only thing I'm particularly miffed about however is the fact that you don't get to see Philia and ML interacting a lot, I want my romance dammit. There's not enough scenes of just them interacting imo. I can get behind how they fell in love, but there's not enough sweet momentssss for me to believe theyre really down bad for each other.

Still recommend this though this was nice.

Somehow it was quite cute. The arcs were quite interesting and fun but honestly, I got bored after the first arc and speed-ran through the rest. The romance was quite cute. I liked the proposal and the rescues. They had such nice cute moments. I also liked the relationship dynamics between first and second prince.

But overall, the best was between the two saint sisters. I loved Mia and MC both. They were honestly such great sisters and were so strong in their own ways. Mia is honestly very MC material.... more>> Wish we had wrapped up her ending a little more... but it was overall, very cute! <<less
