A survival expert transmigrates into a great famine, surviving for a year before realizing it is a novel. The male lead is a hero who rises to power, carving out his own territory and laying the foundation for future world unification. He is cold, ruthless, and kills without mercy, but he is softened by the original female lead, who suffers both emotionally and physically for half her life before finally winning his heart in her old age.

Su Ci, the fiancée and a mere passerby: “… waving goodbye.”

Unfortunately, before she could say goodbye, she was forced to save the male lead once, and the plot took a wild turn from there, becoming unstoppable.

“I originally wanted to be a salted fish, but later, I was forced to follow the male lead to the pinnacle of life.”

Cold and devoted true hero male lead x Clever and optimistic survival expert female lead.

Not abusive, not abusive, not abusive!! Important things are to be said three times. The story is more on the enjoyable side.

The so-called heart-wrenching difficulty is relative to the original female lead, not Su Ci. Don’t misunderstand.

If I had to describe this story with one word, it was: heart-wrenching. I didn't talk about the romance part of MC and ML but events that happened around them.

In this story, we could see the cruelty of wars and game of thrones. There were so many deaths, even the children and likeable characters also weren't spared. And ML was in the center of it. He wasn't actually a prince or noble but an ordinary military officer. He also wasn't OP. However, he still had a great ambition because he... more>> didn't want to become anyone's pawn or sacrifice. He wanted to be on top but of course it wasn't easy. He got betrayed, hurted, abandoned, deceived countless times and sometimes, he also lost the fight but he stood still and kept relentlessly fought until he became the final winner.

I love how MC's role in this story didn't fade into background even though ML was a dominant party. She also had her own achievement and sometimes, she also contributed to ML's winning.

The romance part, although it could be described as sweet, both MC and ML still had shares of up and down moments in their relationship.

Spoiler

In the beginning, MC didn't actually want to have anything to do with ML because she knew that she couldn't have a peaceful life by being with him. But ML half-coerced her to get married and MC could only reluctantly do so because she was afraid of offending the ruthless ML.

Even after marriage, MC didn't fully give her heart to ML but ML kept sinking until he couldn't get away anymore. He began demanding MC to reciprocate his feeling which somewhat made MC at loss.

ML also typical chauvinist ancient man. He hoped MC to be obedient and served his mother wholeheartedly but MC couldn't do it since she didn't want to fawn over someone who didn't like her.

Conflicts arised from those things and made MC and ML fell into a cold war several times. But eventually, they both grew with ML learnt to love unconditionally and MC learnt to trust ML more.

As for the ending, the author successfully tied all the loose ends. I love how she/he also gave 2nd ML his happy ending because he's genuinely a good guy. <<less

The plots ups and downs are interesting, but the ML is just... ugh! I really don't like him! He's ungrateful, conceited, and a stuck up prig! His additude somewhat makes sense from a male character in a period drama, and sure he's smart, but he's also exactly the type of guy I hate. Always jealous, and possessive, whether or not he likes someone. He sees the MC as his possession more than he sees her as a full-fledged person at this point. He's also very sexist, to the point of... more>> being ungrateful, especially since it's not like his political position is even that high. He sees the type of person MC is but still uses gender expectations to oppress her.

Spoiler

The MC is a skilled doctor who saves his and his family's lives multiple times, but he still expects her to tolerate everything from his mother, simply because of gender. Real gratitude for that life-saving grace... 🙄

[collapse]

Their s*xual interactions are also super gross to read about, and really push the envelope of whether or not they're consensual. Whether or not the MC actually welcomes him, he's gonna have what he wants.

The MC also makes no sense. She has skills that don't fit her character's background at all.

Spoiler

Learning some medicine from family being medical practitioners is fine, but the medical skills in question shouldn't include fairly high proficiency in surgery. This lady is out here thinking she can't handle brain surgery in the past, but would it make sense for this character to know any kind of brain surgery at all??? You're supposed to be a survival-themed streamer???

[collapse]

The only reason I added a second star was because the political story is somewhat interesting, even if it makes no sense which characters survive their own nonsense.

Spoiler

That surnamed-Ji dude in particular should be dead so many times over.
