Update: Dropped at ch8. I hate this MC more than I thought. When his girlfriend shows up he lies to his childhood friend that she's just a classmate. Then tries to turn it around by having him tell the girlfriend he loved her but was tired of it being one-sided, and then getting all apologetic about being selfish. But he's still doing shitty things and when his girlfriend explains that she has trouble trusting people but was happy with him, he gets all "I can't help you anymore, find someone... more>> else".

I hate this MC. He is dumb and self-centered.

He makes plans to meet with his girlfriend and then when she's not there he assumes she doesn't care and gives up on her entirely then goes and hangs out with another girl... completely ignoring the fact that he lost his phone and never once thinking "maybe I should have told her I don't have a phone". The ball hasn't dropped yet, but it's SOOOO predictable that this is going to be a misunderstanding. But he's 100% in the wrong and painting the girlfriend as the problem. Meanwhile he's not telling the other girl he has a girlfriend, and not telling his girlfriend he's hanging out alone with another girl she doesn't know. He is in a relationship but refuses to communicate and the novel is pointing towards him ending up with another girl. Meanwhile it's pretty obvious that his actual girlfriend is just poor at communicating and cares. Meanwhile he's being a pissy little bit*h about overhearing her call him "convenient" for the first 7 chapters.

MC is a 1/10 star protagonist. And the only way my opinion is going to turn around is if the girls in his life realize this and dump him, and somebody kicks his ass. But it's a male protagonist in a romance so instead they're going to fall head over heals for him and the girlfriend is probably going to end up angst ridden and blaming herself because that's how these masturbatory romances always go. <<less

Very well done for this type of story. No extreme actions, characters (MC in particular) can talk in a believable and mature manner.

Spoiler

very shockingly, the main drama/misunderstanding with his ex is solved super early and as thoroughly as you'd hope with no bad blood left. She seems to still be hung up on him without the usual "I'll never give up" but being seatmates + coincidences might give her a chance.

childhood friend stays best girl, as in almost every contest.
