Some people say don't compare this novel with MDZS or TGCF. Fine, I won't compare them to the other masterpieces. But in return, I will compare it to other novels under the same genre and premise: Transmigration.

This novel is really well-written. Meaning, from the chosen words, the way it was written, the refreshing style, and the intriguing plot, it is superior compared to other BL novels with a rating slightly higher than this.

This novel is suitable for lightreading, and just read to seek comedy.

Because if you seek proper and good... more>> romance, it will disappoint you quite greatly.

The next point, is transmigration process.

I read this like 3 years ago, in 2018. I didn't find it disturbing back then. But today, I realized, horrified, that this novel is actually a straightway transmigration novel where MC guided by a system had robbed/used a body, identity, position, achievements, abilities, and contacts from a person, yeah, a character in the novel is still a real person in their world.

That's really disturbing.

The original Shen Qingqiu here died, and then got replaced with Shen Yuan using everything Shen Qingqiu had to start a new life.

The original SQQ didn't die out of resentment, he didn't die wishing for something, nor he had a revenge he needed to get help from a new soul to avenge.

SQQ just died, died, and his body should have been burried, and at least that way he'd got someone who mourned for him.

But instead, some f*ck up system decided to bring Shen Yuan and make him live in SQQ's body, for... what? The reason is bizarre. The only reason I can conjure up from this novel about MC transmigration is "to make ML happy". Yet, why did the system at the first place insisting MC to follow the original novel PIDW plot? Even threatening MC if he went OOC or change the plot. It's really a wonder. It's even more unlikely that the transmigration mission is to "rehabilitating" the original SQQ, because for God's sake, everyone had their happy end in SVSSS here and only the Original SQQ didn't get it! His death was never even mentioned! In the end, it's only THE BODY of SQQ who live in happy life, while the soul is someone else....

Shen Yuan just like living his new life, enjoying the life of already a revered and successful Peak Lords, had a wealth and status, had disciples to command for, had a supposed childhood friend of SQQ who'd always favor SQQ, had a sect, had a cultivation that had reached a golden core stage without Shen Yuan ever need to waste any blood, sweat or tears to train from the scratch, had abilities and techniques that the original Shen Qingqiu had painstakingly created for his own.

From the transmigration process, this novel fall under the category of "disturbing". Perhaps MXTX meant for Shen Yuan to be actually Shen Qingqiu's reincarnation, however due to the lack of explanation, the transmigration ended up felt like a toxic process.

I didn't blame the MC, he himself never wanted to transmigrate at the first place. This transmigration thing at the end was only like, a salvation to make ML, Luo Binghe had a happier teenage days. That's it. While in reality, Luo Binghe even in the original novel of PIDW that the MC read in modern days, he still ended up in a good life, being the Emperor of 2 realms, had a 600 wifes, and live his life fully simply being a slag and s*um man in subtlety.

If anything, the one who never get any redemption and was wronged too much was the Original Shen Qingqiu. He got wronged in the original novel PIDW, and he still got wronged in SVSSS here.

But, the whole premise and idea is really that horrifying.

Considering that this novel was MXTX's first novel, and she wrote this in high school, it's no wonder that this novel is lacking in many places...

But really, the basic idea of transmigration in this novel is already disturbing, so I wouldn't recommend this for a great read. <<less

Really enjoyed this! I finished the entire novel + extras. If you're fluent in Chinese, it's not a difficult read at all.

Though it's not MXTX's most polished work, I'd have to rank this as my favorite novel by her, and one of my favorite BL novels of all time. This is because the dynamic between the main characters hit all my pleasure points. Yes, I like this way more than MDZS. *Edited: I finished TGCF (was amazing) but s*um Villain is still my fave. It's a very compact, succinct novel... more>> with all my fave tropes & clown characters. Love love love. <<less

You won't regret reading this. The MC looks cool and aloof on the outside while he's criticizing the novel, having internal freakouts and occasionally being a super-fan on the inside. He's an incredibly enjoyable narrator who manages to make the best of the ridiculous (and sometimes terribly tragic) scenarios he's in... That usually he puts himself into unknowingly. He's quite an oblivious MC but with good reason.

  1. He's terrified for his life as the ultimate s*um villain of the novel, so he's super paranoid about anything that will lead to a Bad End
  2. He's memorized read the book thoroughly enough that he expects the characters around him to be the same as in the novel, but they're not because of his presence.
  3. ... He's a tsundere written so well I didn't even know until I read the spoiler thread with excellent character analyses.

The MC wakes up as Shen Qingqiu, a nasty teacher that the original Luo Binghe grew up to torture to death. He must act in-character as Shen Qingqiu while trying to preserve his life. To avoid his death flags, he decides to become the MC's ideal teacher and starts spoiling and favoring him.

This naturally results in jealousy from the other students.

As the MC is completely oblivious to Luo Binghe's affections, it's pretty funny to see how he misinterprets all of Luo Binghe's actions. Luo Binghe definitely hints at liking Shen... more>> Qingqiu early on in the series, but Shen Qingqiu only sees it as Luo Binghe trying to build his harem.

I am really looking forward to the actions the MC must take in order to stay in-character and continue the plot lines without being eliminated by the system. The future betrayals that must occur will risk the MC's fate on the line.

This is a fun action/comedy/Xuanhuan that is well-worth trying out. <<less

When I first read it I thought it was pretty funny, but the more I looked into the novel the worse it got.
    1. The MC has hardly any depth to his character, he wants to survive sure, but his decisions are let's just say not very smart but I suppose you could say he did the best he could
    2. The MC doesn't even have a backstory which makes the OG SQQ in comparison a better written character. All we really know about the MC is that he was a hater and had a somewhat good life being the second son in a rich family (and he was somewhat of a NEET). Although the backstory of Yue Qingyuan and the OG Shen Qingqiu are in the extras, we somehow know more about them than the MC
    3. The MC loves nothing more than to diss the OG SQQ and it gets pretty annoying, especially when you know that the OG SQQ is a much more compelling character than the MC himself
    4. The ML is totally batsh*t crazy too and it gets explained away as if it's nothing, somehow most readers think it's fine?? And I really don't understand how
    5. The ML doesn't really know the MC all that well like he's only obsessed with the MC because of the MC being his shizun, and him being kinder than the OG SQQ. Like ok. And in the end the MC never even tells the ML that he's not the original which is a bit frustrating
    6. The relationship between the MC and ML was just really sudden, the MC never showed any signs of romantic interest/attraction towards the ML
    7. The MC is also straight up blind to the ML's misdeeds and shows an utter lack of interest when all he ever does with the OG SQQ is diss him, honestly a turn-off. (It literally says that the ML was already blackened when he arrived at the sect but he still calls the ML a white lotus and thinks of him as one which is just dumb)
Honestly I don't mind that the MC is just striving to survive at the end of the day but his actions are just honestly unbelievable. All in all, if you don't look below the surface it's not a bad read and is quite comedic, but once you look into it all you'll see are plot holes and flaws. Seeing as MXTX wrote this in high school, it's not too bad but as a novel, it is not written well.

There are already plenty of reviews that can describe the strengths of this novel better than me, the only thing left for me is to try to dissuade new readers from the notorious "Shen Qingqiu doesn't view Luo Binghe as a romantic partner at all, the romance doesn't feel real, ecc."

Just two words: unreliable narrator.

The last thing you should trust regarding Shen Qingqiu's feelings is his own pov, and if you believe him faithfully as he says he's straight or he's only treating Binghe well because "it can't be helped... more>> he's the protagonist" you're just falling for this man's tricks!! Lmao

This book is probably not everyone's cup of tea, plus the trigger warnings. But it's well thought out, the characters and their actions make sense inside the context they're in. Luo Binghe is an extremely compelling ML with so many facades and layers to his character.

And it's fun to re-read and analyze the book, especially when everyone probably has a different version of some finer details caused by SQQ's unreliable narration™ <<less

This is another good yaoi novel that actually focuses more on the plot and world-building rather than just fluff/smut. While it has a few flaws, it's still a good read.

Summary:

The main character reads a poorly written "stallion" novel (the type of xianxia story with an OP, vengeful, cheat protagonist with a giant harem) and calls it a "s*upid novel" before unexpectedly passing away. Upon awakening, he realizes that he has been transported into the world of the novel -- and into the body of a s*um villain who will later... more>> be brutally mu*dered by the protagonist.

The world's "System" informs him that if he does something out of character, he will lose points. Having zero points will send him back to his original world and (dead) body; a death sentence. The only way to gain points is to assist the protagonist, participate in plot-based "missions, " and help the protagonist become cool and OP -- but won't this also lead to his death?!

The main character endeavors to become a good teacher and latch onto the protagonist to survive. However, the protagonist is becoming strangely attached...

Review:

For now, I would like to give this 4.5 stars.

The world-building and plot is detailed and interesting, and even though it's somewhat predictable, I can't wait to see what happens next between the unfortunate teacher and puppy-like protagonist. The protagonist changed his bad opinion about the main character a bit too fast, but since then their relationship is developing slowly and steadily.

The side characters in this story (other than the main character and protagonist) aren't developed much so far. The other male characters might develop more later, but currently this story is suffering from a common symptom in yaoi/BL stories -- boring and poorly-developed female characters.

Overall, this story is still enjoyable to read, especially if you like the "reborn as the villain" and "overly attached male lead" tropes.

Update:

I'm happy to say that this novel improved quite a bit as time went by. Life continues to be unfair for poor Shen Qingqiu, but somehow the rising amount of unfairness directly correlates to how invested I am in this story. It's frustrating but addicting. Can't wait for new chapters...

Luo Binghe seems to be heading on the yandere route. The other side characters continue to be two-dimensional and I'm constantly forgetting who's who. But overall, the pace and emotional content in the novel has really picked up, and I'd recommend this to any of you Xianxia BL lovers out there. <<less

Warning: I have very strong negative feelings about this novel. Beware lol.

This book made was revolutionary for me... in the worst ways possible.

... more>> Not only did it set a precedent that I would unknowingly come to expect from basically every story with a good shizun and blackened disciple, but it helped me become super adept at detecting when a new book was showing signs of having a similar relationship between the characters as the ones in this novel did.

I wish I could go into specifics about what I disliked about this novel, but it's been months since I finished it, and I can't remember it all. All I know is that I felt miserable by the end and just wished it would finally be over.

This book has several tropes that I have come to despise so much that I drop books immediately over them (vague spoilers ahead) :

1. Amnesia. Specifically amnesia in the middle of the story. Amnesia is the cheapest, shallowest trope that always freaking happens in good shizun/bad disciple stories.

It's fine if it's amnesia from the beginning, because we readers don't know anything either, so we learn everything alongside the MC. But amnesia randomly tossed into the middle of the book just to generate angst is so insanely boring and frustrating!

If I wanted to watch the MC fumble about like a toddler learning to walk again, I'd hit my head on the wall with enough force to forget everything along with them!

2. Homophobic main character. Idk why Chinese authors feel the need to have the main character act like being gay is an affront to god himself when the book they're writing is literally BL. It's like they treat h*mophobia as just another widdle biddy character flaw that readers can just overlook.

And apparently lots of people can. They're just content with reading slander against LGBT couples and ignore it completely. But I can't. I legit cannot tolerate that at all. If your precious 3 views are so easily shattered by the mere thought of a same s*x couple then maybe you shouldn't be the MC of a freaking BL novel.

3. Extremely toxic relationship. Now, I love possessive and jealous MLs as much as the next guy. But this crap crosses—no, flies at supersonic speed over—the line. The ML is constantly forcing himself upon the MC, who is miserable and hates it the entire time.

I was holding out the entire book, praying and praying that their relationship would get better. But it doesn't. MC literally rejects ML the entirety of the book until the literal last, like, 5 chapters.

That's 75 chapters worth of horrible, abusive angst. Absolutely not worth it in the slightest for the extremely unsatisfying ending.

In short, if I could go back in time and stop myself from picking up this book, I would. At least then I wouldn't have tortured myself with this poor excuse for a "love" story.

I was really reluctant to start reading this novel when I first read the summary, because it didn‘t sound like my cup of tea but man - I‘m so glad I gave it a chance. Is this novel a dramatic and beautiful BL novel with a deep and moving storyline? No. But it is so. Much. Fun.

The novel is a loving parody of the genre and doesn‘t take itself serious at all. The overall tone is pretty goofy, but there are some heartfelt moments in between. Sometimes, the novel has... more>> some tonal issues and abrupt scene changes, but all in all it‘s a very enjoyable read.

I‘d recommend this novel to anyone who is open to a little self-aware poking fun at danmei and maybe even needs a little break from very angsty and dramatic novels. If you‘re expecting something similar to the author‘s other books you will be disappointed, it‘s more like an inside joke from a web novel fan for other web novel fans than a classic danmei novel. <<less

This novel falls into the same pit lots of novels about transmigration into novels do: too much reference to the original storyline and characters of the transmigration novel, which hinders the reader from being immersed in the current storyline.

Dang, this is not even a cultivation book! We don't know how the characters cultivate, their skills etc. The fight scenes are so tasteless it's simply atrocious.

Every time, it's the MC ranting about this new character and how that character was in the novel. It's like watching a fanboy gargle. I wish... more>> the MC could take charge of his new life and the story could unfold from his point of view. The narrative is just....

Sigh, a great premise but the execution is too frustrating. <<less

A really great story, with dynamic characters and plot. With this many reviews singing praises you didn't need me to tell you that right? If you liked MXTX's work (specifically if you came from Founder of Diabolism), I think you'll enjoy this one just the same. Maybe even more! In contrast to Heaven Official's Blessing and Founder, s*um villain is a lot more light hearted in a way. It's a more straightforward and easier to swallow down than HOB and FOD's flashback heavy, tragedy tinged odysseys due to the fact... more>> that we follow SQQ rather than LBH. SQQ's internal screaming is a joy to behold as well! Hilarious, dense but generally a good guy, I personally almost passed out at the one scene where the novel's prettiest female loses her veil for once and SQQ literally internally roars "TURN. TURN. PLEASE GOD. TURN AROUND AND LET ME SEE YOUR FACE, LET ME SEE THE WORLD'S PRETTIEST WOMAN". LBH's also a joy to read, as you see him guns blazing and demon king title well deserved! Until! He's alone with SQQ! And then you see his glass maiden heart and how much he truly loves his Shizun lol.

Overall, I think I enjoyed this even more than FOD because it lacked that slowly encroaching tragedy that breaks your heart. SQQ is refreshing, s*um villain as a whole is refreshing when faced with MXTX's heart wrenching tragedies. My only gripe is that I wished we had more time with LBH and SQQ as an oblivious teacher (whose trying to see the protag get with his harem girls) and the hard trying student (who wants to know why tf Shizun is so dense, stop looking at the girls and look at me!) <<less

Can't wait for the translation and try to MTL it. Not regretting it, turns out to be one of the best danmei. Now waiting for the donghua next year, author Xiu Xiu really know how to make the best plot with the best characters (even the support characters amazing)

Honestly, wanted to rate this a 3.5

Let me be clear; I am a person who mixed in with the fandom very intensely for a year.

After reading so many fanfictions with so many possible alternatives based on the basic novel, I've come to realize that there could have been so many better routes and plots that would have more fully explored the world building and characters of the novel.

Edit: After further soaking in the fandom, I have come to realize how bad the novel truly is, after basically seeing and going... more>> through a ton of possibilities of what could have been.

It's good on the first read, but once you start to really dive in, it comes up empty. Would recommend reading this to get into the fandom, but not much else.

So, I think I have a bias. This is one of my first danmei novels, so I feel very connected with it. Finally writing a review after even though it’s been a long while, but I think it deserves some defense against all the negative reviews. Yes, SVSSS was MXTX’s first novel and definitely could be improved. This doesn’t mean it’s a bad novel, though, because I had one hell of an emotional yet pleasant journey while reading this novel.

The ML is extremely possessive. Yes. He is. He was super cute during the earlier stages of the novel, but changed due to the MC’s “betrayal”. I don’t exactly blame him for his change in character, but some of his actions aren’t to be excused either.

Honestly, I love this novel, even with all its negatives. If you came from MDZS, do not expect anything similiar. This is an earlier story, the author has grown a lot since she wrote this novel. It’s great and the plot is still well written, but SVSSS is definitely not on par with MDZS in terms of plot development or character building. Despite all that, SVSSS has got to be my favorite MXTX novel. All of her works are great, but this novel will forever hold a special place in my heart, especially since it is one of my guilty-pleasure dynamics. <<less

I do think MDZS [Grandmaster Demonic Cultivation] is a better book, but this one is pretty good for being "fairly unique" within the book-transmigration genre. It doesn't really make waves. Which is fine!

A lot of book-transmigration protagonists are written treating book characters like they're NPCs in a game and not getting very attached. And then eventually, they realize the book characters are real people and there's character development yada yada yada.

But they're rarely as well done and thoroughly set up in this one:

Very clearly within part one, the MC goads a mutual enemy to trying to kill the protagonist because he knows that the protagonist cannot die from "plot armour."

In part two, the MC is put into a similar situation where he can also goad a mutual enemy into trying to kill the protagonist, but he chooses not to because it's no longer about a "book NPC's plot armour."

This clearly shows the character development of the MC going from using the "plot armor" of the protagonist whenever he's desperate just because he can, to realizing, just because he is can doesn't mean that he should. In his head, the protagonist is no longer a tool for him and the system to evaluate.

We also have a moment where the MC reflects on his past mistakes:

He's bound by the system to go through certain plot points, but he could have handled them much better. He finally realizes that he's treated the protagonist callously this whole time (although not as bad as the original) but it still caused a lot of later misunderstandings and issues.

These realizations come in stages where the MC re-examines his own actions and misconceptions and peels them away, layer by layer.

Very rarely do novels in this genre show the MC making serious mistakes because of his view of the novel characters as NPCs and having that be the catalyst to much of the later plot.

Kudos to the author for managing to do so with this novel.

One of the big weaknesses of this novel is the existence of the system and the multiple transmigrators (the author). It's a big humor/comedic point, but it also feels a bit lackluster (knowing that this is MXTX's work) because I expected more from it.

The system forces the MC to go through specific plot points and keeps the MC (and the reader) chained to the idea that the novel characters aren't particularly real because we're reminded again and again that the system can predict the future, issue quests, and tally up psychological/emotional points for the MC.

On one hand, the author tries so hard to get us to see the novel characters as real, 3D people, but on the other hand, the system constantly reminds us that this is a novel world where actions and reactions can be predicted by a higher power.

Even by the end, the system is still bound to the MC and it seems, forever as long as the protagonist exists, which is a bit discomfiting. It's a constant reminder that the world is 'not real'.

A lot of people are comparing this novel to MDZS which is very annoying and rude.

We get it, Karen. You expect the best from this author after reading Mo Dao Zu Shi. But do you know how hard and long it takes to come up with a genius plotline and developed characters?? No, you don't.

As a writer, I'd be extremely disappointed to read comments saying: "Oh, this isn't good comParEd to their other novel, X" or "The only good novel of theirs were X"

It's discouraging as hell and rude. Instead... more>> of comparing novels, list the reasons why this novel is lacking as an individual rather than as a comparison.

One of the best yaoi transmigration novels ever I gotta say. The protagonist isn’t OP but he’s decently high on the power level and totally pulls his weight in every situation. The ML is, well he’s honestly the most unique I’ve seen in a while since he’s a mix of yandere puppy dog type with emphasis on the dog side- which isn’t really that common in these types of fics. I love both of them, and even better, the supporting characters are just as amazing as them! Not to mention... more>> there’s solid plot, funny and emotional dialogue that really makes you feel for the characters and the ending was hella satisfying. Heck, even if you didn’t think the ending was that satisfying I guarantee you the extras will more than make up for it (you can find a lot of the translated ones on tumblr there’s a list) - it’s pure gold.

Overall I would give this story 10/5, 200% amazing will definitely read again <<less

It was good and bad. What bothers me is that there was still no explanation from MC for kicking ML down into the pit of hell. There was no apologising for the way he treated him.

I´m completely confused about what ML finds so attractive about MC. He´s very stiff (granted he´s acting), inflexible, always serious and strict. It gets boring after 70 chapters.

Secondly wasn´t MC´s goal to go home to his world? Seems like he just kinda forgot about it in the end and rode into sunset with his boy....

Another... more>> thing that just made the novel feel bland was all the unnecessary fillers with all the completely unnecessary characters that didn´t hold much purpose to the story except taking space for dialogue. This author clearly has talent to wrap everything together beautifully but for a BL novel, MC and ML didn´t have as many scenes as you´d wish.

And lastly, goddamn I was soo looking forward to those extras hoping for some lovey dovey between them but nope. More fillers. Just what we needed... <<less

I have finished reading this.

Pros:

    • Great MC who is smart and practical
    • Fast plot
    • Interesting secondary characters (Liu Qingge, the author, Yue Qingyuan, etc.)
Cons:

    • Yandere Male Lead
    • Romance was kinda... not romantic enough for me
I loved reading this since the MC is hilarious and the story is quite fast-paced. However, I'm not quite sold on the romantic aspect of the story. I feel like it was a little too restrained for me. The extras make up for that but the main story itself is pretty meh in terms of romance. I just read it for the MC and his funny "outwardly calm and collected but inwardly panicked" scenes.
