For three years, Rong Shu lived in the shadow of a love that was never hers. When her husband, Gu Changjin, reclaimed his identity as the lost prince, her fate was sealed with a single poisoned cup. It was at that moment that Rong Shu understood—nothing had ever been a coincidence.

Three years of cold indifference had made one thing clear: Gu Changjin loathed her.

Yet fate had other plans—when she awoke, she had returned to the day after their wedding.

Determined to break free from the chains of the past, she sought only one thing—an early divorce, a clean slate. But as she unraveled the truth, she discovered that her past life’s death was no accident and that from the moment of her birth, she had been ensnared in a far greater scheme.

Even in the deepest abyss, one must still strive toward the light. Even as an abandoned pawn, one must march forward—unyielding, unafraid.

This is a story of dual rebirth, where two souls wade through the fog of their past lives to uncover the hidden truths. A tale of deep love, intricate power plays, and fateful redemption, filled with breathtaking twists, emotional intensity, and a romance that burns slow but bright. With elegant prose and a masterful balance of politics and passion, this novel is a true gem.

This is an excellent novel, very well written. It's rare to find an intrigue plot that really keeps you guessing. I liked that the author peppers in the truth as you go, so even though you guess the twist, you're still wondering right up to the end. Every character is completely fleshed out, with their own motives. The only character I couldn't quite get behind was the childhood 'sweetheart'.
Spoiler

Her only motivation is being brainwashed as a child, so I felt her ending wasn't as satisfying. We're told she kills people and she definitely targets Rong Shu but she's barely on screen enough to care about

[collapse]

The romance was well done, I cried a little in the beginning but as the story goes on, you really root for the ML. I was not sure how he was going to untangle everything! You can't ask for a better lover redemption than this novel and he really does everything he promised her.

Revenge. Power. Regret. Strength. Atonement. Love. Redemption.

This story takes you on an emotional journey — full of heartbreak, healing, and quiet strength — but also layered with twists, secrets, and political intrigue that keeps you hooked until the very end. While the setup might seem cliche — a cold husband, a wife who comes back with her memories — the way it's written makes it stand out. Just a warning though- it is a very slow burn romance.

The FL has known heartbreak, lived through devastation, and in her new life,... more>> chooses herself. She carries pain, but she also carries power — the kind that comes from knowing who you are and what you won't accept anymore. This story is not only about romantic love, but self-love too.

Then there's the male lead. So often, stories like this fall short when it comes to redeeming the man who once caused the hurt. But not here. His pain feels genuine, his regret crushing. His redemption isn't handed to him — it's earned, slowly and painfully. It's one of the rare portrayals where you truly believe he deserves her. He is written with poignant restraint. Burdened by cruel circumstances and impossible choices, his stoicism masks a deep, unspoken devotion. Watching him evolve from a cold, tactical mind into a man who remembers, who grieves, who loves — it's devastating and beautiful. His love was always there, just buried under duty, silence, and sacrifices. He doesn't love her with demands or expectations. He simply gives. And I also love how, through it all, despite the weight he carries, he remains an upright, deeply principled man.

There are some characters/storylines in the story that left a few questions unanswered, but overall a really good read! Make sure to read to the end (the final extras were chef's kiss :')) <<less

Wow. Just wow. Went into this novel with no expectations, trusting the only 2 reviews before me. And the result? Absolutely taken in with this story.

The Seasons To Remember isn't just a story, it is a feeling that lingers long after the last page. It draws you in with a quiet charm. A beautifully woven tale that revolves 2 lifetimes and a 3rd, reminding us that while the seasons may change, the heart remembers. Always.

The Premise may sound cliched, a reincarnated FL, memories intact, a cold husband who once shattered... more>> her, but what sets this story apart is how it tells it. As time rewinds, in this new life, she isn't here to take revenge, to fix things, or pine, or cling to whatever broke. She's done. She let go. Truly and completely. And that quiet, powerful choice? That's the heartbeat of this novel.

Her resolve is what makes her unforgettable. She has loved fearlessly, has been burned deeply, and found freedom in her death. In this life, she chooses herself. She steps away from the man who she believes once loathed her, no longer shackled by duty or delusion. She allows him the happiness she believed he had missed out on, because of her, with someone else.

But here's the twist. What if the absolute truth isn't what she remembers? But hidden in between her love and loss.

The slow unfolding of this mystery is as tender as is haunting. Her 'unfeeling' husband? He begins to remember too. Snippets. Feelings. Regret. Pain. And through his past, we see a man not indifferent, but broken, confused and burdened by choices he had no control over. Watching his transformation from a ruthless strategist to a man deeply, desperately in love is heartbreaking and beautiful.

Spoiler

What I love most? He never tries to force her. Even in his growing obsession, he protects her freedom, her peace. He gives, and gives, asking for nothing. Just to because he wants to, needs to, for the unfortunate and pitiful love that died in his arm, for the words he was never able to say, for the pain he never meant to cause. He becomes worthy, not because he's forgiven but because he is changed.

Their romance isn't immediate. It's not even promised. But that's what makes it real. The female lead isn't waiting around to be swept off of her feet. She has her own path, her own people to protect, her own healing to do. And yet, as truth slowly resurfaces, and love is redefined, not a duty, not as atonement for what they lost, not as sacrifice, but as a sanctuary, they find their way back to where they belong. Not because they must, but because She chose to.

Her sacrifices, though small in the grand scheme of things, just a single pebble in an endless ocean, sends ripples that change everything. Quiet, steady, and unrelenting. Both of them, in their own ways, shaped by love, begin to shield one another the only way they know how. Through giving up pieces of themselves in a world that has only ever asked them to give more.

They were both pawns. One bound in th**ny chains, forced into cruelty and decisions that tore him up, that he could not allow himself to ever care. About anything. The other, discarded like she never mattered. Yet, somehow, they mattered to each other, even when they didn't know it yet. It's not just their love that sheltered their battered and bruised hearts, but the love of many, in their own way, found them and healed them.

The political intrigue, the betrayals, the power hungry players, it's all there, adding layers of pain and tension. But even through the harshness of that world, the story never loses its soul. And what makes this story hit so hard is that no one's truly evil, apart from the main villain, revealed in due time. Everyone has their own twisted kind of morality. Some are fighting for the people they love, some for the country that's broken them, some are avenging the dead. Everyone has a reason. Everyone has their own set of rules. And sometimes, those rules demand that they sacrifice their own happiness, their own people, for the so called "greater good"

And that's where the ML becomes different.

He doesn't follow rules, not of the court, not of war, not even of vengeance. While others accept loss as part of the price, he refuses. He fights, and he keeps fighting, choosing paths others wouldn't dare walk, just to make sure that the innocent don't get caught in the crossfire. Just to protect those who had no one else.

In a world built on collateral damage, he becomes the one who won't let anyone be collateral again. How utterly tragic. How incredibly beautiful.

And the side story? That final lifetime? It's like a soft, well earned, peaceful resolution where every regret finds closure, and every character receives what they truly deserve.

[collapse]

The Seasons to Remember is more than a love story. It's about choices. Growth. Forgiveness. And above all, it's about remebering, not just who you once were, but who you could still become.

Absolutely stunning. Poetic, in every sense.

So if you're here for a slow burn 2nd chance at life, and love, filled with mysteries of their past lives, and an eventual unraveling of everything with a political intrigue then look for more. Go and jump into this journey. <<less

Rating: 4/5 (but I’m giving it a 5 to help nudge the rating up 😎)

Let’s start with the titles. The Four Seasons? Beautiful, poetic, fits the tone. But the alternative English title "My Obsessed Ex-Husband, the Crown Prince (Rebirth) "... yeah no. Sounds like it’s going to be a crack drama or a messy romcom, when in reality the story is dramatic, emotional, and often quite dark.

What really sets this apart from typical rebirth/revenge plots is that it’s not about face-slapping or political one-upmanship. Instead, it focuses on slowly... more>> uncovering what went wrong in the past life and rebuilding the broken relationship between the leads. One of them (no spoilers) comes back with full memories, while the other rediscovers things piece by piece — I loved that setup.

The first stretch is a little slow, I won’t lie. But once the plot picks up, you’re pulled into a web of intrigues and emotional gut-punches, complete with a truly nasty villain (I won’t ruin the reveal — it’s worth the wait).

After that, the story shifts. Once the villain is out of the picture (around two-thirds in), the final two arcs dive into a more fantasy-driven explanation of the rebirth and fate stuff, which might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it worked for me. And the ending? It gives you a satisfying look at how their lives turn out — with a real sense of closure.

Would definitely recommend if you're into emotional payoff, slow-burn romance, and plots with actual weight behind the angst. <<less

"Seriously, this novel's fantastic. You gotta be ready for a slow-developing romance, though. The guy's super closed-off, like, his whole life's been politics and secrets, so he's not exactly warm and fuzzy. The girl? Sweet and innocent, but it got her into major trouble the first time around.

Okay, yeah, he's gonna be a jerk at first. Blame his past, it's a mess. And she was totally clueless before, which led to a disaster. But here's the thing: they get a do-over. She figures out her own worth, and he learns... more>> to open up. Trust me, it's worth the wait. You'll be totally hooked on seeing them fix things." <<less

There was a lot more scheming than I expected in the story. I thought it would be more focused on the romance, but most of the time the romance takes a back seat to all of the political schemes and intrigue that's happening in the background. I enjoyed all the scheming, but it wasn't until the end that I finally started understanding the events of the past. Part of the reason why it was hard to follow is because there are a lot of names thrown around, so it was... more>> easy to lost in the explanations of past events until it was repeated a couple times. Also, it doesn't help that some of the names and pronouns in the translation were wrong, so that made it a bit more confusing to read.

The romance is good once it starts, but it's definitely slow burn. Even though it's dual rebirth, the FL is the only one to have all of her memories right from the start, while the ML slowly gets his memories back through dreams, so it takes a while for him to fall for her again. And on the FL's side, she's completely done with him, and it takes quite a bit before she softens her heart and agrees to marry him again. Initially when the story is told from the FL's POV, I was skeptical on whether the author would be able to redeem the ML, but she explains his past actions well. Even though he kept the FL at a distance, he showed his affections in all the small things he did for her and it was touching to read about.

Even though it's a rebirth story, there's not much face slapping. The FL has matured a lot given her painful experiences in her previous life, and in the new life she's more concerned about preventing the tragic events of the past than anything else. Obviously she has limited resources, but luckily the ML is willing to step in and give her a hand to investigate the truth of her family's dealings. <<less

Poignant, well-written, and leaves the reader wanting for more.

Often one wonders if the former couple would still wind up together or if they will forge an entirely new path. This one offered a chance for both of them to grow and find their own way in the world and

Spoiler

take the conscious step towards each other. Not because they were bound by some unspeakable fate but because they grew, they changed, and they realised their own worth and bravely fought for what they deserve.

[collapse]

The story was not straightforward but a mixture of back and forth between snippets of the past life and the present, but it wasn't jarring enough to be confusing. It has mystery, political intrigue, familial strife, and at its beating heart, bravery and courage to make the choices for a better life and uncovering the truth. It has a dose of drama with well-justified angst, sprinkled with light-hearted moments in between.

The only thing that may put off some readers is

Spoiler

the incredibly slow-burn of a romance.

There are twists and hidden messages and clues that one needs to watch out for, but overall a satisfying read. 😌 <<less

I'll be honest, I've yet to encounter a crematorium story that make me forgive the offending party. I always feel like the MC should fly away and left the love interest in the dust. Even when I know the LI is not an actual ass, or if they live a hard life, the moment they implicate an innocent party, I'll always hold a grudge even when the MC already forgiven them somehow.

So I'm checking out this story bcs of the reviews. Who knows, perhaps this one will be an exception

Edit:

Actually,... more>> this is good. The plot is plotting, the schemer is scheming. The author is meticulous and the story is tightly packed. But sigh, it somehow still left me feeling suffocated. The ML is not even bad, I understood why he does the things he did. Ahhh, maybe it's the dog-bloodedness of the story and the nature of crematorium genre itself that left me feeling awful. Don't let my review discourage you from reading. I shouldn't have tempt fate by trying to read a story with this particular genre. Now I'm complaining 🙃 <<less

This is such a well-written wife chasing crematorium where I accept the outcome and think it was well done. I get a well wrapped up ending where I felt satisfied, as well as great female characters written with depth. I cried on the 1st chapter and finished this in 2 days because that's how much I liked it LOL.

This is a slow-burn novel filled with complexities and sub-plots. The themes of fate, destiny, reincarnation, familial sacrifices, unconditional love versus conditional love, atonement, merit, and karma play into how the story... more>> unfolds. If you're Asian and understand Buddhism, this hits home.

Gu Changjin, the man that you are. They don't make men like him anymore.

Spoiler

I love how no matter what, Gu Changjin/Yunzhi has never forced his beloved and understands her needs. It's many, many chapters later, but... he understands she's a free bird who has many aspirations. He's truly happy just to see her smile and at peace. He's the perfect match for Zhao Zhao. In his first life, he remained single after Zhao Zhao, only making merit and sacrificing so much just to get a chance at seeing her again. And the last few chapters? Truly... what a man.

[collapse]

Zhao Zhao, truly an example we can all look up to. Strong-headed, steadfast, sees through situations with clarity, clear about her wants and goals.

Spoiler

I love how in the extras, she gets to be free-spirited and the Emperor indulges her. It's so good to see everyone get a happy ending. Also, in the original story, the background story about Shen YiZhen and the man she never got to be with (but longed after her for a lifetime, never to marry) was so beautiful. I also love how this story touches on how blood isn't thicker than water—family bonds are forged. Zhao Zhao's loyalties towards those who treat her well and are good, kind-hearted people is inspiring.

[collapse]

Shen YiZhen, one of the many strong women caught up in a man's world and filled with traditions she can't escape from. She sees reality for what it is—men's words are fickle and not to be trusted, but there are good ones. Despite that, women should strive to be financially independent because there will be a time where one needs it most.

This story reminds you to fight for your loved ones and for what you want. Fate may play a part, but your life is yours. <<less

What an incredibly satisfying read! Definitely not your typical rebirth and revenge story. The world-building, plot, intricacies, and characters are all seamlessly woven together—especially the plot twist, which was executed brilliantly.

I loved every character in this story. First, let's talk about the female lead (FL). Her perspective is entirely relatable. After being traumatized by her past experience with the male lead (ML), it's only natural that in her next life, she would want nothing to do with him. There's nothing wrong with that. It's like encountering something unpleasant—you avoid it... more>> at all costs. That stance held firm until she slowly uncovered what ML had actually done for their future in their past life. That moment was the turning point I had been waiting for, and it was so satisfying to read.
Spoiler

It was heartbreaking to realize she had been used as a pawn and discarded from the start.

However, from that point onward, FL suddenly becomes overpowered—able to "understand" ML's unspoken words as if reading them from a crystal ball. If she had possessed that level of emotional insight in her previous life, there would have been no misunderstandings to begin with.

[collapse]
Even so, I deeply appreciate how the author portrayed her. She is not confined by the traditional four walls or the constraints of "virtue." Women, as the story shows, have the strength to stand tall, seize their fate, and make their own choices. They rises above disgrace and victimhood.

As for ML, the burden he carries is unbearably heavy and cruel. That's what makes him so silent, reserved, yet incredibly intelligent. His quiet way of loving and protecting FL is moving, and the sacrifices he made are admirable. I'm genuinely happy the story ends on a positive note. I also loved the camaraderie between him and his subordinates—it's comforting to know he wasn't alone while enduring Xu Fu's ruthless training.

Then there's Shen YiZhen, the FL's mother. I've rarely come across a character so clear-headed, smart, and ruthlessly self-aware.
Spoiler

She was even willing to abort her child to avoid repeating the same unhappy life as Rong Shu. A mother choosing to bear the grief of ending her child's life to spare them future pain is something we can hardly comprehend.

[collapse]
Her development, especially in how she later protects and loves Rong Shu, is incredibly moving.

And finally, the emperor and empress' side story. What a delightful cherry on top. It was the icing on the cake, ending the novel on the perfect note. With that, the story felt flawless.

Thank you for the amazing translation. Even with few inconsistencies with places' name, it was still a great read! :D <<less

Normally I don't write review and I'm barely even half the chapters in but I just want to leave a review cuz I don't get why some people are giving this novel low ratings. It's definitely a hidden gem, and props to the author and translator for giving us such a beautiful work.

Okay so I found this novel after I just recently rewatched pride and prejudice (2005), I know there's no connection but I was really craving a story where there's pure longing, that kind of silent but deep type... more>> of love. This novel manages to deliver that and I can't wait to finish it. Y'all just give it a try. <<less

The first half is 5 while the second is 4, there are lots of things this gets right that most cnovels don't, for example all the subplots, side characters, complexities of humans that is captured which is why I have given it a 5. But at some point you stop connecting with the fl, she becomes too perfect and author hammers in home how much she doesn't care for the ML for like 80 chapters then after a big plot reveal she starts liking him while that isn't unbelievable but... more>> then the build up wasn't satisfactory enough and we see how in this life she doesn't want to be chained by the ML until this reveal, if the author hadn't spent the last 20 chapters making sure we knew she wanted freedom then this would have been perfectly fine but then author wanted both things making sure we know FL wanted freedom and the plot reveal stuff which makes both aspects unsatisfying.

While these are my complaints I would still recommend this one to all cnovel readers and also I really like the emperor empress story as well. <<less

I’ll start from what I liked the most to what I liked the least.

The PREMISE is nothing we haven’t seen before but the first 15 chapters captures the angst pretty well. I liked it so much that I ended up machine translating the rest of the chapters.

The STORY is objectively well-written. There are barely any dumb characters or silly plot turns. There’s a lot of serious political scheming, multiple instances of serious injuries, as well as a pretty serious wall of misunderstanding between the ML and FL (and... more>> it stretches for ages). Everything’s just serious.

Somewhere along the way, I got tired of it all and realized this story is not for me.

My guess is I have a problem with how the CHARACTERS are written. None of them—major or minor, hero or villain—feel memorable or particularly likable. They have the typical heroic and villainous traits, yes, but I ended up not actively rooting for anyone (save for two minor semi-villains). Several female characters were depicted as “willing to suffer up to a certain point, then cut ties completely without looking back” types which other readers might like but feels quite cold to me. Another contributing factor is I wasn’t moved by the ML nor the OTP.

I did reach until the chapter 80s (out of 130+) before I started skipping, skimming, and jumping around to get to the end.

TL;DR: Solidly-written but everyone’s so serious and the females are hard-hearted. <<less
