In the unique educational institution capable of granting superpowers to individuals, the Senei Academy, there is a student named Yuto Amemori. Due to certain reasons, he wants to lead an inconspicuous school life.

However, his superpower, the ability to “impair vision,” is pathetically weak. This power triggers the protective instincts of his classmate, a beautiful girl aiming to be a superhero, Kasumi Asahina.

As a result, Kasumi insists on protecting him, saying, “I’ll protect you!” And this leads to an unwanted relationship between the two. Yuto becomes a target for delinquent students who dislike this situation.

But the truth is, Yuto hides his true abilities to appear as an ordinary person. In reality, he possesses the most potent superpower since before his enrollment. Secretly, Yuto starts plotting to eliminate obstacles, involving Kasumi in his schemes.

This is the tale of a monstrous entity pretending to be powerless, scheming behind the scenes to dominate the school. The story begins!

Gave it a try but I can't stand this writing/character tropes. There's this underlying wannabe edginess to everything the main character says. The author clearly wants to have their MC be this Machiavellian anti-hero, but his motivations are kinda lame, and the way he does things are also lame. And it kind of comes off as this Chunibyo dork. Like, the first time he decides to eliminate someone he talks as if he's going to stage this grand stage to crush him, but all he actually does is... trick someone... more>> with the authority to expel him into believing the guy did something said guy was planning on doing anyway.

It also has the problem of having a MC who is an unreliable narrator, but he constantly comments on his own internal monologue being unreliable, calling himself a liar constantly. So it comes off less "this character is brilliant and cunning" and more "this character is trying really hard to convince himself he's brilliant and cunning".

And besides the MC, none of the characters are likeable. They're just tropes. The innocent justice girl falls head over heels for MC immediately. The psycho co-conspirator whose purpose is just to be in awe of how cool MC is when he's being edgy. They're just insufferable. <<less

While randomly searching for books to read, I had the displeasure of coming across this whatever-godawful-name-it's-called-by. Anyway, onto the review.

A blatant shameless inferior copy of Classroom of the Elite. We have:

  • MC whose face supposedly shows no expression, hiding true strength, manipulates from behind the scenes and wants to live an ordinary life (Kiyotaka clone).
  • The cover heroine who has too much pride in her own abilities and pesters the MC (Suzune clone).
  • A 2-faced popular classmate who hides her true face but it gets revealed to MC (Kushida clone).
  • The homeroom teacher who knows about MC and tries to use him to advance her class (Chabashira clone).
  • A leader of another class who rules the class with violence (Ryuuen clone).
  • A pure angelic charcter who loves books and is in library committee (Hiyori clone).
  • A white haired girl who knows MC, his past and his abilities fully (Sakayanagi clone).
  • The classroom battles where MC is placed at bottom most class.
  • Students getting allowance through Private points and class points
The author wasn't even trying; he copied as much as possible from COTE including characters, plot, school system, conflicts and even major events too (even the volume 1 cover characters' poses is straight up copied from COTE volume 1 cover). The major difference is that here everyone has supernatural abilities. And just like popular Fantasy trope, the strongest ability happens... more>> to belong to protagonist but he hides it because he doesn't want to stand out (Staple idea for a powerfantasy!).

And if you didn't get a clue; here's a simplified version: it's the standard, cliched fantasy genre harem with COTE-esque setting. And just like many other precedents to mix 2 different genres in novels, this ends up horribly as well.
    • Supposedly MC shows no expression, remains nonchalant, doesn't stand out, avoiding conflicts and emotionless as a Kiyotaka-esque character, yet he is clearly seen by others more than often to be angry, clearly stands out, gets beaten in fights and openly simps for Hiyori-esque character.
    • Suzune copycat character is shown to have high intelligence which was why she caught MC's hidden strength yet she clearly later begs him everytime to stop because he is weak and she needs to protect him. Oh and she blushes like a maiden and is a stalker of MC. Don't get me started at their unfunny interaction of him intentionally spelling her name wrong.
    • Kushida esque character mask break downs more than often in class yet no one catches her. And let me add, she serves the same purpose as Kei of helping MC behind the scenes for no reason.
    • Ryuuen esque character uses violence to dominate his classmates yet is an idiot enough to reveal his hands openly.
    • Hiyori esque character has cheat ability to predict things (kind of clairvoyance) yet she lets herself get bullied.
    • Students get allowance according to private points that was explained at first but that concept was thrown away and never mentioned again.
    • MC borrows a classroom to set his own party of behind the scenes dealers - the Night Banquet (Cringe!) (Cid, is that you?)
Conclusion: A very bland power fantasy novel with out of place setting borrowed from a popular novel; it's like mixing strawberry extract with sewer water and passing it off as refreshing juice. It would appeal neither to 'MC with hidden strength' enthusiasts nor to 'Psycholgical games go brr!' connoisseurs. I have seen fan fictions with more efforts than this mixing of two genres in a rotten blender.

1/10. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone. <<less
