The Sub-Gong Is Being Rejected Today As Well

Description

Who should you stick with to gain the most advantage when you’re transmigrated as an extra character in a BL novel?

You’ll get punched in the face if you stand next to the villain, and you’ll get misfortune if you stand next to the main couple.

Therefore…

“Why won’t he accept my gift?”

Today as well, the sub-gong complained to his extra character secretary about being rejected for the gift he gave to the main-shou.

“Shall I request a refund?”

“It’s okay. Secretary Ahn, you can use it.”

Originally, someone like him, who had everything and couldn’t even get the main-shou was bound to become a sub-character.

Se-hyun thought as he quietly hid his expression behind Shin Tae-oh, the sub-gong and CEO he worked for.

F*cking huge gain.

I MTL'd the novel.

It's slow but thankfully the chapters are short so you wouldn't feel much dissatisfaction. Since the ML was SML in the original, he seems really nice. He's truly a green flag.
Spoiler

he controls himself when MC got his heat and even took care of him. He always thinks what MC would think. He's not pushy, but he's playfully flirty. MC admits to himself he has a crush on ML around 60th chapter, before that he always wants to be a bystander and not want to be involved in the OG characters personal life. It was a difficult for him to accept his omega trait but he had a reality check when he had his heat and when ML had his rut during which he wanted his pepper in him. The only dissatisfaction I have is that till now they haven't kissed yet but helped each other during their heat/rut respectively. Means they've touched each other's peppers. MC basically has attracted both ogSML and og villain but sadly villain is vain. If only he wouldn't be a villain we could have had a proper love triangle but there's no chance of it because MC's rejections are pretty clear and straightforward.

I MTL'ed this one. It's good, slice-of-life-like office's drama. It's the usual 'im now an extra so I just stay quiet but now in main plot' kind of story, but I applaud MC for stay low for 3 years :))) and choosing the most financially stable and drama-free main character!! Of course he did dragged by main plot (as usual), but it happen in later half of the story.

I like ML because.... how normal he is. If you read the promo and looking at the cover, he's really the 2nd... more>> Male Lead to the T :))) Handsome, but not main protagonist's handsome? He has the quality of 1st ML but in normal way??

Spoiler

and ironically, despite looking like 2 dimensional normal green flag ML, this is his most personal (2nd ML syndrome) problem: he's not the 'main character' in his own 'life'.

[collapse]

MC is also interesting in his own way to having fun in his new world. His monologue is something else :)))

In general, it's a life between assistand manager and his handsome boss. Their small steps to be with each other is cute. It's more to personality-driven story rather than drama. I think it's interesting how the author shows two 'bland' non-main characters are real human with their own story too. My favorite is MC's number in contact :3

About the nsfw part and response to wintercreepe's review:

Spoiler

I'd say I applaud the heat scene because the non-penetration lol Idk if the viewer read it, and it also one of few novel with forced bed scene but different solution.... by calling the doctor. Yes, the heat scene ended up with doctor, medicine, and hospital. The bl**job is non-con? Probably in our world. But I think the bar in omegaverse world is lower. It's non-con but preventive measure :p

About the sentence and structure.. idk I read it just fine?

Characters' personality were unknown?? It's shown? Tho initially looks bland, but they're progressively did have personality?? And they did have expression and body language! It's just MC trying to stay low so he's expresioneless. His small reaction was the point of ML's pov and how he started to realize his love.

And no he did not fallen in love wih him during heat. HE FALLEN IN LOVE WITH HIM AT THE MOMENT MC INTRODUCED HIMSELF AS HIS ASSISTANT 3 YEARS AGO.

He 'loves' oriMC because how he treated him in the past and how he want to be loved and thinks someone like oriMC is perfect.

In reality all present he gave to oriMC were adjusted to MC's features/liking. OriMC is the victim lol but good thing he's stay with plot and oriML. This actually made ML who realize later feels bad to MC (he actually did not care) because MC once said to him that the gifting a present is like giving a part of your heart. Up till 68, ML still feel sooo damn bad lol

Writing style is elementary school level.

Extremely short sentences and the structure is questionable.

No descriptive words at all.

... more>> "A car", "home", "room", "office", all you get is a location, absolutely nothing about the environment, often not even anything about a character's facial expressions or body language.

All of this gets worse the further the story progresses, sentences get even shorter, even less descriptions, it's like the writer wanted to only write dialogue split into five word sentences.

There a quite a few characters, none of them has actual character and you learn nothing about them.

Even after 20 chapters, I have no idea what MC or ML like, dislike, how they think about anything, they are blank slates.

And there's non-consensual s*xual contact.

No, I'm not thankful that it wasn't full blown penetrative r*pe, and that it was portrait like some kind of generous help only makes it worse.

Especially because, apparently, a doctor would have been all that was needed for it to be unnecessary for the ML to assault MC.

The "romance" is very sudden, ML falls in love after MC went into heat/assaulting him, when he never considered MC as anything but his secretary.

They aren't friends, he knows nothing about MC, they never even interacted outside of work.

A lot of Korean readers commented that the novel is childish, tacky/cringe, and "off".

I agree and totally understand why the ratings on different sites are low. <<less

note: to be updated again once I finish the story

The premise is rather simple. This is an office romance where the superior and subordinate are in deep denial over how far their admiration for each other extends, mostly because of the superior’s long standing crush on another man. The superior and subordinate are basically both aware that he will never actually have a chance with this person, but the superior has been chasing him so long that it’s hard to stop. The main character has been his secretary for three... more>> years by the start of the story, playing as the go between for this chase on his CEO’s behalf, and that is long enough to build a perception of his boss as a s*upid love brain even if he did not know the plot in advance.

Other reviewers are correct in saying that the ABO setting does not add to the story beyond luring the protagonists into physical contact, but I personally feel that it is okay within the context of this story and does have its place. ABO does not have to be all full-on dubcon. This story also contains the important aspect of the secretary hiding his gender to work at a higher paying job to support his family. It makes much more sense for him to be hiding already weak pheromones than to be hiding the clear visual differences between a man and a woman, while still allowing the author to explore the dynamics of working in a less favored gender within that field and how it may or may not impact his career upon reveal. Mr. CEO is understandably shocked when he learns the truth (c5-7 or so), but the more important messages here are that the CEO was moved yet he restrained himself from going for a one night stand with someone who had no way to consent. This novel is a slow burn and Mr. CEO will not change the way he treats his secretary overnight due to the reveal, because what Mr. CEO falls in love with is not Mr. Secretary’s body.
Spoiler

well he did like his face from day one but liking his face was not enough for him to give up years of misguided persistence, although it shook him deeply from the first meeting. It’s important to note that called cool in the hotel probably effected him much more than anything that might have happened in the bed.

[collapse]

The early chapters reveal a lot more foreshadowing than I picked up on during my first reading. There is so much more going on than just an Alpha getting moved by Omega pheromones. A more obvious example is that the CEO buys gloves that Jin-Ha, his so-called crush, citing the reason that it was “cold” despite Jin-Ha not being exposed to the elements during work. Who actually is? The secretary who will end up with the gift once Jin-Ha turns it down! There are many more blatant hints, so blatant that I did get deceived by the secretary’s perspective into thinking Mr. CEO was actually quite the insensitive guy and not realizing the deeper implications. Other hints reveal more about Mr. CEO’s personality and past, but the details would be too much of a spoiler! Suffice to say that I tend to get more impressed by this story the more I read, despite my initially indifferent impression of the novel due to it’s somewhat jerky writing style (jumping back and forth between plot points to force in extra suspense is bleh). I find this ability to increase my perception over time to be a rare and pleasing quality in a novel that really makes it worth a read for those interested in the office romance trope and who appreciate when consent is respected in an ABO novel.

There is one aspect I am completely annoyed by in the current chapters regarding the interactions between the Secretary and one of the villains.
Spoiler

Mr. Secretary wants a normal life and for the characters to finish the plot smoothly, yet he keeps swaying in front of the bad guy like he is afraid he might get missed by the pe*vert. He thinks he knows everything about him but does not take any measures to be less of a target despite very obvious overtures from the villain. To confirm that the plot is off track he also goes to the villain to confirm than the og!protagonist. That makes more sense my a**! A conversation with Jin-ha scoping out whether anyone has been annoying him lately would be much more natural considering their long term acquaintance. Instead the MC goes to the villain’s company to provoke him again. To be fair, his plan to cause a chance encounter between the villain and the protagonist would have worked if only the villain held any legitimate interest toward omega and had not made the plan to disrupt the og!protagonists with ulterior motives. Mr. Secretary is unaware the villain usually prefers betas over omegas due to knowing the plot from the perspective of the og!protagonist.

I am truly annoyed by this development and I’ll need to let chapters stockpile for a bit before I try reading again. However, I also recognize that his actions stem from a deep misunderstanding of the og!protagonist and his suitors. Mr. Secretary presumes that Jin-Ha never considered the ‘perfect’ sub-ML or the scheming villains due to having a “heart that can only hold Min-hyuk”. What he has failed to consider is that the og!male lead may have been the only suitor of Jin-Ha that was sincere to him. The others, including his CEO, were not actually that into him despite going to greater lengths in their pursuits than the boyfriend he actually accepts. Mr. CEO was moved by Jin-Ha, but he was more moved by a potential future he imagined of them together than by the actual person. JH is, somewhat tragically, a placeholder that fit his ideal spouse. He was moved specifically by the undivided attention he received over a bowl of ramen. He did like Jin-Ha, but he did not love him. Mr. CEO has his reasons and I admit I find it hilarious that the second male lead has what can only be called second male lead syndrome. He holds a deep desire to be prioritized by someone, because he is used to never being the one prioritized by anyone. He feels he is not the protagonist in his own life so he gives up easily on emotional attachments. One thing I respect about him is that never does anything to actually force Jin-Ha or anyone else to meet his unusually strong expectations. He gets rejected a lot and not just by the og!protagonist. It’s literally the title of the book. He accepts these rejections with grace. He is aware of his shortcomings and does want to be loved, but he also will not drag someone unwillingly into the mire even to save himself who is on the verge of drowning.

Ahhhh I love it. ML is cute. MC is cute. They're so cute togtherヽ༼ °ヮ° ༽ノ.

What I absoultly love is that ML is not one of those cold domineering CEOs mls (which I feel like it makes him more like a person). He's funny and I love him. I also like MC he's a quiet person but not cold.

The novel I sont long so I'm hoping there is no unnecessary drama

I Love this !!! Generally, I get bored easily with reading novels but this was sooo good. First, it's quick to read even if it's slow burn. ML is the greenest flag ever and MC is so interesting he's not boring at all (he's real and relatable). What I liked about the romance is that it's really realistic while being an omegaverse which is RARE. And the personality of the characters are well worked on, you get to know exactly what you need to. People are saying there's not much... more>> description but it's SO MUCH BETTER that way making it focus on the slow romance = no unnecessary information but enough for you the picture it in your mind.
Spoiler

ML did something that we always want the 2nd ML to do and that is : to look around them because there are people that could be better suited for them instead of the OG MC. Someone said on a review they made up from mine that the romance is sudden but IT IS NOT they just didn't read the novel until the end because the author takes their time to subtly explain how ML came to like MC and why he fell in love especially with him

[collapse]

Both of them are soo cute (without being overly cheesy or cringe) and my god THE ALCHEMY AND CHEMISTRY they have in the dialogue are so so good (it's adult conversation) I could read it over again and again a thousand time.

The way the author handled the "isekai in a novel" aspect is what made me like the novel even more. It's not stereotypical, and you start liking even the villain. The side couple beside the OG's one is to die for and I was shipping hard, I wanted more of it 😭.

Well go read it you won't regret if you like slow burn and are looking for a smart MC and a out of the cold trope ML (he's a sassy funny one). Definitely one of my Number 1 favourite bl novels. How I wish I could read other writing from this author because this was chef's kiss 💋 <<less

Take it from me, someone who doesn't usually read omegaverse novels because of the inherent non-con/dub-con/r*pe elements: this novel is good. That being said, I feel like the author shot themself in the foot making this an omegaverse novel. It's because, other than the scenes which other reviewers like Aldis have mentioned (important context behind the heat scene ... more>>
Spoiler

Shin Tae-oh tried to give the heat suppressant medicine that Ahn Se-Hyun brought with him first, but Se-hyun's body was rejecting it because he was already in heat, thus leading to the necessary s*xual act to relieve Se-hyun's body before the doctor could come with stronger medicine

[collapse]
), the novel does not go hot and heavy with the s*x scenes, and immediately into the romantic relationship. It's slow burn. Which doesn't satisfy the people who like omegaverse because of the quick s*x and pivot to a relationship (which is probably most omegaverse fans). At the same time, including these scenes at all in the novel alienates the people who could have liked this novel if it was purely just a BL's novel. It's a shame, because the (incredibly cute and wholesome) relationship between Ahn Se-hyun and Shin Tae-oh is not even dependent on the omegaverse aspects. Because Shin Tae-oh didn't fall in love with Se-hyun for that reason. <<less

I'm a omegaverse hater, I tend to avoid these types of story's.

But this one is simply making me break this barrier, and make an exception, the plot is really good, and by far we have zero red flags.

I'm quite immersed in the story, I even liked the heat scene (which is rare, because most of the omegaverse's I tried giving a chance so far just grossed me out by these kinds of scenes)

... more>> Anyways, I got a feeling that the story would be soooo much better if it wasn't omegaverse

Just my opinion btw

It's still good, and made me ditch work all day long just bc I was immersed <<less

I haven't read much so not entirely sure what to think about this novel... The writing style is definitely not to my taste since I prefer I guess more wordy prose. This really is more of a dialogue back and forth. It's a style choice that some people might like, I'm not that someone. But that's not to say it definitely is bad.

I do think it has potential but at the same time it feels like I'm just reading a draft for a story that could be good. I'd rate... more>> it 3.5 but rounding up since I have not read far and not sure if I will. It can still get better.

Their relationship... so far I'm having trouble feeling the chemistry (no, not counting pheromones) but the ML could be the typical not-sure-who-he-likes at first since it does seem like he subconsciously liked MC from a while back despite going with the flow of pursuing oriMC.

As for the non-con,
Spoiler

I have only seen the first instance of handjob, and while it wasn't too bad, it did feel entirely unnecessary. I don't really think it added anything to the story in any case.

This is probably my favourite omegaverse web novel to date! ^^ Things I liked:

    1. I love Se-hyun's characterization as the MC. He's not a pushover, and he acts like an actual adult, which is usually not the case for bottom/omega MCs in other web novels I've read. Se-hyun's not TOO perfect either, despite being a transmigration MC, which is refreshing; it made his character easier to relate to and root for. I also like how
      Spoiler

Se-hyun chose to keep his transmigration origin a secret. I was expecting him to confide in Tae-oh about this, but once I finished reading, I think it's perfect. It reminds me of Khalil Gibran's poem 'On Marriage', which mentions, "let there be spaces in your togetherness, and let the winds of the heavens dance between you" and "stand together yet not too near together: For the pillars of the temple stand apart, and the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other's shadow." The MC choosing to keep trivial, personal stuff private is rarely shown in romance fiction in general (not just BL), so I'm really surprised and happy to see it in this story.

      [collapse]
    2. I love how Tae-oh's not the typical cold, domineering alpha. He's confident and mature, but his charm is from being approachable and kind, not from being aloof. He's flawed, but always considerate of Se-hyun's feelings even when engaging in banter. He never hesitated when apologizing to Se-hyun, and he always kept his composure during s*x scenes. There are complaints about
      Spoiler

the non-consensual handjob when Se-hyun was in heat, but I think context is important for that scene. Se-hyun was not traumatized by it and it could even be argued Se-hyun also gave Tae-oh a non-consensual handjob during Tae-oh's rut.

      [collapse]
Not sure why the reviews have it overblown when it was literally a non-issue between the characters as they grew in their love for each other, but I guess everyone has their preferences.
    3. The web novel does NOT have themes of "systemic discrimination against omegas" and "alpha privilege in society". Having these in an omegaverse story is not bad writing and makes the world feel realistic, but they're something I personally am indifferent towards. As a gay adult man, I do NOT need to reminded of societal h*mophobia when I read romance novels. Realism is not always fun in my opinion; it really depends on the execution and how meaningful it is to the plot.
    4. For the realism that I do like, I love how grounded and mature the story feels. Se-hyun's feels like an actual secretary, and Tae-oh feels like a CEO. Their work process is not super detailed, but enough to help you understand their personalities and push the story forward.
    5. I love how Tae-oh and Se-hyun's relationship development was written. I'm repeating myself here, but it feels like actual adults going through a talking stage, then a dating stage, and finally the relationship stage. The doubts they have stem from reasonable thought processes,
      Spoiler

such as Se-hyun's concern about unravelling the world if he goes against the original plotline, or Tae-oh's worry about him influencing Se-hyun into reciprocating instead of Se-hyun reciprocating willingly and intentionally.

      [collapse]
The two of them do just the right amount of "I should communicate, but maybe later" back-and-forth without being annoying and repetitive.
Stuff I do wish the story added/expanded upon:

    1. I wanted to see more of Se-hyun's banter with his parents, and Tae-oh's relationship with his parents as well. We got some lengthy interactions, but I wish it was more detailed.
    2. I wish Se-hyun
      Spoiler

had more adult friends, aside from Jin-ha and the chief secretary. It would add more depth to Se-hyun's character outside of his interactions with Tae-oh.

      [collapse]

Honestly, while I was reading this, I didn’t quite understand what was happening. I had to guess whose line it was... spoiled the impression of the story a little.

The main advantage of the novel is the relationship between the main characters. They are healthy and loving, unlike typical ABO romances with forced pa-pa-pa.

I wouldn't say that the plot itself is impressive. He's average. But I think it’s even good for the MC, hahaha. Okay, I wanted to talk about the fact that MS and ML are developing. They make concessions... more>> to each other, change their views and thinking thanks to each other. One of my main criteria for evaluating a novel is the development of the characters' personalities. After all, without development, a character is just cardboard, right? That's why I gave this a 4.

Thanks to the translators for their work. <<less

Reading as far as c31, each chapter honestly felt like the author's just winging it.

Most chapters basically have no actual substance except repetitive and obvious messages that have already been conveyed, over and over again. Some chapters doesn't even mean sh*t.

What I didn't like most was that the Omegaverse setting just suddenly appeared. My fault for not reading the tags there but there was no mention of it until like maybe 10 or 15 chapters idk. It was revealed that MC is an omega and he's hiding it because apparently... more>> it's a socially acceptable option not to disclose their secondary s*x even though pheromones excretion from heat/rut could involuntarily influence other people. Tryna be unique there but it's unreasonable. But that's not the keypoint, it's that the omegaverse setting was revealed just right before MC's scheduled heat! Probably because author didn't know how to 'naturally' change the nature of their superior/subordinate relationship. And so, the ever so cliché heat cycle incident happens except it stops at a very "helpful" handj*b. Mind you MC was adamant enough to keep to himself throughout the ordeal but ML is just insistent to be helpful while he waits for a doctor who can actually completely solve the problem. And what do yknow, their relationship turns a subtle shift, with ML eventually realising he likes MC.

Before all that incidents I actually liked the story and characters albeit nothing really new. But the omegaverse theme was inserted like a shortcut and ML's initially cute impression crumbled to dust instead turning into someone ever so fickle. I continued reading until it finally sunk in me that I just don't like this style of "convenient" writing, neither the new characters, nor the new prospective developments. <<less

Not sure if it's the writing or translation but sometimes I get confused with what is happening and have to go back and read it.

Translation is okay and needs a proofreader to correct inconsistencies and what I mentioned above.

Overall I enjoy the story. I love a calm and pretty protagonist. I'm still a bit early in the series. So I'll see if I get bored, but I am looking forward to this one.

I love the story! I usually don't really like slow burns but this one's has captured my heart! The relationship and interactions between these two has made me laugh more times than I can count lol, the story is very cute and has a relatable MC (I love the nicknames so much)

I recommend the story for all those that are hesitating because of the omegaverse tag, is not that relevant in their relationship tbh! So don't worry and read to your heart content!!!

About the omegaverse:

Relationship (Omegaverse) :

Spoiler

from chapter 1-76 there have been only 2 scenes where it's relevant (the time of their heat/rut and it's wholesome unlike other stories! Like w/o the omegaverse tag it could pass as just a scene in any other bl novel) also the fact that MC absorbs the ML pheromones and the conflict MC has with being an omega (not that he's in denial just that it doesn't feel real and he sometimes forgets about it, from what I understood)

[collapse]

How it affects the world (Omegaverse) :

Spoiler

MC felt the need to not disclose he was an omega.

The original villain has a problem with only being a half alpha and after MC helped him from a panic attack he becomes kinda in love with him (he's like a sly fox like he changed but I don't vibe with him, he's too strange)

After MC meet with him covered in ML pheromones, he (og villain) released a scandal about them two being together in the company (didn't help MC still had ML pheromones lol) but it doesn't really affect them.

[collapse]

Overall until chapter 1-76 I haven't found the omegaverse tag very relevant to the main story just causing some small shenanigans but I feel like the story could go on without it lol (yes I am repeating what I said before but like I need to make it obvious so more people read it!) <<less

My feelings about this story are quite polarized. Initially, I thought that MC would continue to maintain his reason in a reasonable manner. However, as time goes on, the logical reasons become more and more annoying.

Spoiler

He continues to waver between maintaining the original plot and refusing to progress with ML. What shocked me was that he gave the information to Ha Jin-seong so he could bother Yoo Jin-ha. Of course, this doesn't work.

It was an okay romance book at most, nothing really amazing but it was an actually okay read.

Though the translation is terrible, but I feel it had to do with the original writing itself. I know hanguel so I kinda guessed the nuances and the other meaning of the direct translation of what could be the original korean words use. The only reason I did not read the raws is that I'm slow to read it than in English, and also because the story was not worth all of... more>> that effort and bother.

The writing in itself is very lacking. Reading this novels had already lowered my requirements for writing skills but at least it need to check one important checklist, comprehensibility.

It lacks dialogue tags and action tags, making it hard which one was telling the conversation and doing the action. This in itself was a huge letdown for me, and it had nothing to do with the translation.

The translation although was decent and worth giving praise for the effort, was also lacking. It had to do with how the translator was also not inherently knowledgeable about writing semantics. I'm not going to delve deeper to that as they made an effort for free and they should be given some slack from the problematic source materials.

The story was fine. It wasn't angsty and it was about chasing. What really made me want to read it was the anticipation of them being together and after that the appeal of the story was lost to me.

The character was okay, nothing topnotch loveable. They were cool and they were both greenflags.

It wasn't bad and if you have nothing to read, it might held you for some time. It really did not have something monumental in it. But it was good. <<less

a hilarious romance relationship between leads character. Shameless boss chasing his secretary little by little. The boss who isn't aware of his own feeling at the beginning and the secretary whose main goal was money and not live poorly anymore. Those two with their own goal slowly realizing their feeling and learning how to accept them.

I like this novel which focused on the main character without dragging orFL into the relationship deeply.

I love this novel. I would love it more if the author decided to add side stories about their... more>> wedding and kids.

ps : I have reread it more than once <<less

I just am infuriated that the top doesn't pursue him properly.
Spoiler

They had a one night stand and instead of thinking of things to do to pursue the MC, he just immediately asked him outright. I know we're supposed to support them being a couple since they both like each other, but there's no reason for the top to think that the bottom likes him. Also the top is the bottom's boss, they have a comfortable relationship, but it's your boss. How could you not think 'if I say no, he might fire me'. And from how this is weiten, I don't think he has any other connections except for this company.
