Song Yutian transmigrated into a sweet romance entertainment novel as a cannon-fodder supporting character. In the original plot, she joins an outdoor competitive variety show “Unexpected Challenges” to pursue the male lead, only to face constant humiliation and eventually withdraw from the industry.

Song Yutian: What’s a male lead? Don’t distract me from my career.

The audience initially assumed Song Yutian would be the decorative contrast character. But when the show aired—

Day 1: Song Yutian carried her CEO teammate while quipping, “Not bad for someone with functional brain cells.”

Day 2: Song Yutian dominated the competition and publicly shamed a misogynist: “Exploiting women? Know your place!”

During breaks, Song Yutian coolly addressed romance rumors: “Do you think romantic validation is women’s only aspiration?”

Gradually, the show’s focus shifted from competition results to watching Song Yutian roast men while winning.

Audience: More! Sister Song, keep burning them! We’re here for this!

Male contestants developed mixed reactions – some seethed with resentment, some fawned for alliances, and others…

Simultaneously seethed and fawned.

Dancer Song Yutian gets the shock of her lifetime when, after an evening's performance, she wakes up in an alien bedroom, with an unknown phone at her bedside table. Checking it's contests confirms it - she has somehow ended up transmigrating into the tr*shy celebrity novel "Delicate Darling: CEO’s Exclusive Sweetheart", a book she had only picked up before because a character shared her own name, but had discarded quickly after a quick skim made her realise her namesake is only a textbook cannon fodder character - a beautiful but... more>> brainless actress with a bad reputation as a low-EQ "vase", and on her very last chance with her agency with the reality show "Unexpected Challenges" (a bunch of celebrities living in a shared house environment and taking part in various challenges) the original character had strongarmed her agency into getting her a spot in because she's obsessed with one of the other contestants.

Well, not so much our girl. One look at the bank account at her disposal (only 241, 5 yuan left), and armed with the knowledge the original inhabitant of her new body had not actually worked for 18 months, she could care less about any of the male characters around her - she has more pressing matters to attend to. Like earning money.

Which means concentrating on earning points to stay for the whole run of the show (they're paid per day on participation basis and there's an elimination system in place), and trying to get her reputation out of the gutter.

And so, instead of following her character's original path of trying (and failing) to pursue the male lead, ultimately getting herself kicked off the program and retiring in disgrace, she forges her own path, rising to the MVP of the program, repairing her reputation and work prospects, all while dragging misogynistic male participants over coals with her words, winning the admiration of her co-participants (well, at least the actually decent ones), both male and female, and even earning a much more deserving love match for herself.

Sony Yutian is a fantastic lead character. She's sarcastic, no-nonsense, sticking up for the other girls on the show, even if it puts her in direct conflict with some of the male characters. While it could end up hurting her image even more at the beginning, when her reputation is at an all-time low, the ones she stands up for showing gratitude ultimately also helps shift the tide of online comments in her favour, at first with fans of the contestants she supported coming to her defence, and later gaining a following in her own right for her upright personality. She's a treasure in the entertaining world, true to herself in a world where people often lose their identity to the image their PR teams have crafted. And I'm all here for it. <<less

Loved it. Simple as that.

There is a lack of c-novels that promotes solidarity of women. Even when the main character is a woman. Just a few weeks ago I read a QT novel where MC was constantly put against two dimensional women who's only characteristics are being jealous and love-brained. All this just to elevate the MC. "Look I am different from them" seemed to be the main message.

This novel had MC speaking out about the double standards on a how a woman is treated on a regular basis. The... more>> subtle everyday sexism that is thrust upon women. Here is a scene that I particularly loved.
Spoiler

When the OG FL of the story was treated like a vase by the OG ML, both fragile and unable to do anything but follow his wishes, MC comes in and gives her space and gives her encouragement to show off her skills.

The writer did put in a woman who was jealous of MC's achievements but other than some light bantering, even the jealous girl didnt try to do anything to sabotage the MC like so many novel villains do.

Another thing I loved about this novel is the ML. I didnt even know he was the ML until the last few chapters. I love when the love interest is concealed until the last moment. It gives an element of surprise. Even though there were some subtle hints given here and there,
Spoiler

I was actually dreading the fact that maybe the author was going to ship MC with the OG ML who definitely didnt deserve her.

.

The variety show had some fun things happening in it as well.

I always I really liked the ML. He is a perfect fit for the MC. The novel ends on a lovely note and thus I won't stop recommending it as a light read. <<less
