Sooo, I’ll let you know right now this is a story that is very politics heavy, so if that isn’t your cup of tea I wouldn’t reccommend reading it.

On the other hand, it just has its charm to it. The story pulls you in with the characters, their goals. I really like the interactions between everyone because of that, it’s a very dynamic scene. Everyone has a motive and is working towards it, alliances and schemes are just ways to get there.

This is gonna be a loong rambling so buckle up. I just finished the novel and I can only say one thing. This is a masterpiece. I have no idea who the heck gave this novel a low rating but it's by far one of the best novels I've ever read. This was such an emotional roller coaster, it had so much control over me for the past few days. I don't know how much I cried for some characters or held my breath at how much I got caught... more>> off guard with the twists. And the translation was really good save for some occasional mix up of pronouns. Just know this, if you're looking for some good old romance or just something to pass time, this is not it. It will keep you on your toes and make you theorize. It's not tragedy, it's not really angst. There are no unnecessary misunderstandings or brainless quarrels over love. It's pure political intrigue, schemes and plans.

We have the ideal FL. She's pragmatic, realistic, sharp and clever. She knows how to read the room and how to get out of complicated situations. I love her. None of her choices, even the bad ones, were s*upid or frustrating. They were all the best actions she could take at the time and when she was caught off guard, so was I.

I love all the characters, not completely but I do love them to some extent. The male leads, the lady, the side characters, no one was simply dismissed as an extra.

The moment our main character gets involved with the prince and she and her lady enter the palace, we're thrown into the center of a big fight for power. Everyone is a suspect, you can't really trust anyone, not even the main characters. The way it started, the way the events unfolded and how it ended, everything was perfectly my cup of tea. The moment I thought 'Something should happen right at this moment!', it did. The moment I thought I figured something out, turned out I was wrong. It did shake me up a bit because of how uncertain things were and the way it got me worried for some characters, but it was amazing nonetheless.

I would've liked a longer epilogue or some more side stories about our main couple though. I would've loved to see their love flourish without any external threats, and them spending time just talking about everything that happened and their feelings for each other, especially our FL. I feel like she never really had the chance to tell the ML how she really felt and that she loved him.

The characters are somewhat morally gray, and the novel doesn't exactly focus on what's right and what's wrong. It's all about survival and keeping your position, not falling down. Every single part of the novel was intriguing for me, never did I ever think that an extra's pov was boring and that I wanted to skip.

I'm not telling who the ML is because it's a mystery as you read. As I said, I thought everything was possible while I was reading so you need to feel the same emotions too lol. So if you've read this far despite my unnecessarily long review, go and read the novel too. I assure you it's much more interesting and exciting to read it for yourself. <<less

I don't understand why this was given low ratings such as 1 or 2. It's a very decent novel that definitely doesn't deserve those low ratings. Even the average of 3.6 (at the moment) doesn't do it justice. I binged it a couple of weeks back and became obsessed with it. So here are my reasons for giving it the rating of 5:

-the characters are intriguing, morally-grey, and realistic (except for one major character who's really funny, but whatever, I love her role in the story). I admire the FL.... more>> She's pragmatic. Yes, she's in love. Yes, she knows the 2 male leads love her. But who has time for love when you're busy with survival, right?

-the conflict drew me in. Can the characters be trusted? Even the MC herself, can she be trusted? Who will I side with? Who's the real enemy? I don't know. And I don't have to know because when I was reading this, I was simply enjoying the story's rollercoaster plot.

-the romance: slowburn yet in the moments when it mattered most, the scenes did not disappoint. It's a politically heavy story with scheming characters, so romance is a bit sidelined. Yet the FL/ML/other ML worked together a lot, and also saved each other's a**es a lot that we get glimpses of how they expressed their love. The scenes of jealousy also made me giggle like a teenage girl.

Overall, it was a good read... immerse yourself in it as you enjoy the ride. <<less
