The Taoist genius girl, Qing Li, was captured by the terrifying world to participate in a survival game.

The ghost creatures wept bitterly, collectively holding banners—pleading to be sent away!

While other players frantically fled from the ghost creatures, she, carrying a large axe, chased the creatures madly as they tried to escape.

In the eerie hospital with a ghost playing hide-and-seek, she chopped off the ghost creature’s legs, saying, “Run, see where you can go!”

In the death bus, she kicked the driver away with one foot, transforming herself into the road’s female Yama, saying, “Hey, beautiful ghost sister, want to take a ride? The fare is just two eyeballs.”

In the cannibalistic hotel, facing a female ghost with a chainsaw, she smiled and said, “Is it your choice to die willingly, or do you choose a shortcut with me?”

The trembling ghost creatures: Who the heck is the antagonist here?

Live-stream viewers: Elegant, too elegant!

But only when facing Chu Ci did everyone realize that Qing Li had another side.

Qing Li: Dr. Chu, the horror world is so scary. I can’t sleep alone at night because I’m afraid.

Chu Ci: Busy with work, can’t get away.

Qing Li: Resign then, I’ll chop ghosts to support you!

This certainly isn't going to be for everyone, so I hope people don't give it bad ratings simply because it's not your cup of tea. ***The translation is good.

This usually is NOT the type I enjoy, I'm a fan of fantasy (dragons, magic...), cultivation w/ romance and definitely partial to strong FMCs.

I'm only a few chapters in and I LOVE IT! The FL seems to be OP, but the game element somewhat hides her shine from most others (at least, so far). The horror is mainly creepy settings, mysterious stories,... more>> ghosts, and depictions of gore and whatnot. Except, it injects humor in every so often and I literally LOLed at one point.

The FL is a lil money-grubber and she claims her master was a swindler of sorts. She's somewhat naive (I think because she was trained in a remote location), but she's got a roguish feel to her too.

We were introduced to ML quite early, but he seems like he's gonna be interesting too. Quite a lot of mystery around him, but that's true for most of story so far too.

A lil female Taoist with a battle ax? How fun is that?! I do hope it stays interesting! <<less

What a... crazy ride that was!

Having a FMC in such a gore-filled thriller ride is a first for me and I must say I enjoyed it very much.

Spoiler

MC is a very broke Taoist and one day a system attaches itself to her and takes her to the horror world where she can make money by passing each horror instance. From then on it's a journey of how our deranged MC traumatises both ghosts and humans alike on the road to becoming rich. As a side task, she uncovers the truth about the world and also becomes the ruler of the horror world.

[collapse]

MC falls first but ML falls harder. There are also great villains and an interesting plot to boot.

The entire novel is simply UNHINGED but it's fun to let go sometimes. <<less

Review from translator:

Ghosts Beware, There's a New Boss in Town!

If you've ever wanted to see a horror-survival game turn into an action-comedy with supernatural beatdowns, this is the book for you. This novel takes all the rules of spooky survival and flips them on their ghostly heads. Qing Li isn't running from monsters - she's chasing them with an axe in hand.

Imagine a player being thrown into a deadly survival game where ghosts lurk in every shadow. Now, imagine that player doesn't just survive she thrives. Qing Li is... more>> no ordinary participant. Armed with her master's "no virtue" teachings and a knack for causing ghostly chaos, she's the one making the spirits tremble. The live-streamed shenanigans, the witty banter, and the sheer audacity of this girl are what make this story stand out.

Plot Analysis:

The plot kicks off with Qing Li being lured into a creepy job that ends up being a portal to the Horror World. From there, she's thrown into a series of increasingly dangerous (and hilarious) scenarios. Whether she's slapping ghosts, negotiating with demons, or terrorizing her fellow players with her bravery, Qing Li brings a refreshing twist to the typical survival narrative.

While the episodic structure of the horror missions keeps the pace lively, the overarching storyline

her mysterious connection to Dr. Chu Ci and her master's shady past

adds depth and intrigue. Some side missions feel repetitive, but the mix of humor, tension, and action keeps you hooked.

Main Characters:

    • Qing Li: Equal parts badass and comedic relief, Qing Li's unique blend of fearlessness and cunning is magnetic. Her "village girl" fa ade hides a sharp intellect and a talent for exorcism that turns the tables on even the most terrifying ghosts.
    • Dr. Chu Ci: The enigmatic and unsettlingly handsome doctor brings an air of mystery and danger to the story. His interactions with Qing Li are dripping with tension, and their evolving dynamic is one of the book's highlights.
Themes:

This novel explores themes of courage, adaptability, and the unexpected ways people cope with fear. At its heart, it's about flipping the script

Qing Li doesn't just survive; she dominates, breaking free from the victim role that horror stories often impose.

Emotional Impact:

While the book leans heavily on humor and action, it doesn't shy away from emotional beats. Qing Li's moments of vulnerability, her relationship with Chu Ci and her master, and glimpses into her backstory add depth to an otherwise rollicking tale.

Why You Should Read It:

If you love genre mashups that blend horror, comedy, and action, this is a must-read. Qing Li's actions, witty comebacks, and fearless attitude will make you laugh HARD. The unique spin on survival games and ghost lore keeps the story fresh and engaging. You will enjoy this if you enjoy strong female leads who don't play by the rules or looking for a mix of supernatural thrills and laugh-out-loud moments.

Final Thoughts:

The Taoist Boss Is Dominating the Horror World is a wild, entertaining ride that redefines what it means to survive in a horror setting. Qing Li doesn't just fight ghosts

she roasts them, and it's endlessly satisfying to watch. While the story has its flaws (Since I think this book is not serious, it's just for laughs), it's a refreshing and hilarious take on the genre. Highly recommended for anyone who likes their horror served with a side of chaos! <<less

I wasn't expecting anything from this but I like our protagonist. She's dominating, shameless, and despicable when it comes to deceiving and tricking her enemies which is a characteristic that I love for a protagonist. It's funny how she exploits people, especially the ghosts.

I read a couple of Horror Games stories and this one might be by far one of my favorites. I'm surprised how our protagonist falls in love first, I avoid reading stories like that but she didn't suffer pursuing him. He became interested in her quickly and... more>> is quite indulgent. The romance isn't the main focus since it's only a subplot but it is my preference in this type of novel.

I thought the male lead would be the typical cold and stoic guy but he has a personality of a green tea b*tch. It's unexpectedly amusing seeing him acting like that. It is such an intriguing and well-written story with many horror elements that also showcase the dark side of humanity. It's quite horrific and very detailed too. Despite its horror aspect, it's funny too because of our protagonist for the comedic effect.

Note: Our protagonist is strong and considered overpowered. If you don't like that, I suggest reading other novels. <<less

A very entertaining read that kept me up for almost a week! It is a well-written story that has elements of horror, which involves ghosts and monsters plus the darkness of humanity. It also has a bit of the entertainment aspect with the livestreaming and game elements along with a System that enforces the horror game rules. It's like one of those Japanese gore manga where characters are thrown into a new horror world and asked to survive. The story has subplots of romance too. Don't worry it is full... more>> of humour too with numerous parody-like moments interspaced with the horror aspect.

Our FL is dragged to become a participant in this horror world and it details how she finally overcomes all obstacles to become No1. Yes, she is quite OP and gradually becomes more OP to the end. But it is fun how she goes about fighting the enemies in this novel. It is a great read.

I like the story because the FL is an interesting character and her personality makes reading the story fun. Its almost like a funny horror story even though some parts are genuinely terrifying. The antagonists are not all bad too with some having very detailed and interesting backstories. The author really goes into detail regarding the antagonists the FL faces against and there are numerous important flashbacks to make the story even more interesting. Lots of side characters have great backstories eventhough they come and go in the story, sometimes fading away to the background. I love how everything ties together in the end if you follow the mystery. I won't really give spoilers because I think the story is best when you read from start to finish without spoilers and there are many interesting plottwists.

As for personalities of FL and ML:

FL is a shameless cunning and witty lady. Who seemingly acts small and soft before revealing her true nature. She's really good with words, sarcasm and often infuriates her enemies to death.

She falls for the ML at first sight and shamelessly flirts with him. When she gets angry though she's terrifying.

She isn't a white lotus nor green tea or even a Holy Mother. She often does what she likes.

ML has a very sad horrible past. He appears in the story from time to time but honestly romance isn't the main focus, it's just one of the subplots to push the story along. I felt it could've been used more. But the ending arc was focused on ML and FL so that's great.

ML is a cold man who doesn't smile for anyone but FL. He doesn't trust easily and is just trying to live normally. He is also a MAJOR GREEN TEA BOY. He gets jealous and then wants FL to dote and pamper him. It is so cute.

Their night life seems to be full of BD*M joke elements. It is not explicit and merely mentioned.

A bit of cons:

Would've loved to have more of the players involved but they die quite quickly and aren't mentioned alot as a whole. Even at the end when the livestream ended, the players are returned and we don't get a story of what happens in the real world after it all ends. The focus is on the horror world.

Translation:

Was quite good! 4/5 stars. Sometimes some names are wrong. Sometimes the translator forgets the style they use for the livestream so I often think its part of the conversation but its just livestream comments. Some paragraphs are repeated too in the full translation package the translator provides. <<less

Was so good I couldn't wait for the translations and just MTL / binged the rest for the last 48 hour of my life. I really enjoy this kind of plot where it's kind of funny and lighthearted at first but then as you progress you realise there's so many secrets and backstories to uncover and a few plot twists. This novel if kinda same style as 'I was admitted to villain school' or ' scream queen' so if you like those read this. ML was pretty mysterious which I... more>> like and MC is funny. Honestly I really enjoyed this and am writing a review so later I can come back and reread it :D <<less

Everything I like in a novel. Satisfying romance? Yes! Incredibly funny? Yes! Interesting story? Yes! Great world building? Yes! And I could keep going, the livestream comments for example are entertaining, the missions are well done, the characters are likeable, and the translation is completed too (through patreon/ko fi) ! Everyone reviewing it is giving it 5 stars, that should tell you something.

That was awesome! To be honest, it's the author's limitless (dark) imagination for me. Like, how could he/she come up with so many disgusting and horrifying ideas? (This is a compliment). Anyway, I am ready 666 with the author's imagination. Also, I like the FL so much. Violent, proactive, funny, shameless, money grubber, etc. Well, I don't think these are good compliments but anyway, I like her a lot. She's not bad, but definitely not a saint. She's not good, but not evil as well.

I also like the romance even... more>> if it's just a subplot. It would've been better if the you-know-what is more detailed like how those missions are very detailed lol.

Also, I find the background stories of the lords very interesting. It really showcases the dark side of humanity. I mean, all of these may just be the pigment of the author's imagination but that's the case for the ghosts and monsters, but for the human trafficking, domestic violence, mu*der, r*pe, etc. That those forbidden land lords have experienced? Sadly, it can really happen in real life. So although this is fictional, I think how the author portrayed human nature is very vivid.

Overall, it was a very good story that may be a little too much for those with very rich imagination and poor stomach, but for me, it was a masterpiece. And hey, through this, I found that my courage and psychological quality has improved lol. It was a pity that there are very few extra chapters. I would like to see more of their daily lives now that it's peaceful, more of the grandmaster's childish antics, more of the FL's exploitation to her workers, and more of the ML's green tea talk. It would've been better if there was a chapter where Chu Ci visited the human world to experience a lot of things. The world owes him that. 9.5/10 <<less
