“Don’t get carried away. Absolutely do not. I’m warning you—don’t do it!!”

“How did it come to this?”

Blessed with a superior lineage, noble heritage, and innate talent, Claym Bradley, the heir of a marquisate, had ridden high on his advantages from birth. However, his excessive arrogance eventually led to his execution.

To the world, his demise was a fitting punishment for a life of unchecked cruelty and tyranny. But Claym himself couldn’t understand why he deserved such a fate. It was only at the brink of death that he realized the truth: those he trusted and considered friends had betrayed him.

Thus, abandoned and with no one to save him, his life came to a bitter end. As his consciousness faded, Claym reflected:

“If I could live again, I’d wish for a peaceful life.”

“I’d never get carried away again and would lead a modest, restrained, and tranquil existence.”

When he opened his eyes, Claym assumed he was beginning a new life.

At first, he struggled to comprehend what was happening. Despair overcame him upon realizing he was reliving the same life, doomed to repeat his past mistakes. Yet, he soon saw this as an opportunity:

“I won’t make the same errors again. This time, I’ll abandon everything and lead a calm, slow life!”

Determined to rewrite his fate, Claym resolved to start over.

But fate had other plans.

Trials and tribulations unimaginable in his first life began to test the newly reformed Claym, now striving to be a decent human being. Could he truly achieve the peaceful, idyllic life he longed for?

A surprisingly good novel with a fairly generic story executed well, that ends up being an entertaining read. The tl by eastern word smith is also pretty good with only one or two mistakes in all of the chapters I've read so far.

The MC has a clear end goal and the pacing is fairly good with the plot actually moving forward rather than getting sidetracked on unnecessary, boring side plots. The MC does have a massive shift in character at the beginning where the author probably should have taken more... more>> time to show him changing his perspective. The author does show his habits from his past life slipping through and his immediate thought of running away from the situation is probably meant to come off as his childish, ignorant attitude from his past still guiding his decisions. To be honest, I prefer the author not forcing the MC to be from another world, which many others do and then eventually forget about. Similarly, many other things the author chooses not to do also deserve praise like making the MC incredibly op close to the start or dragging the plot through several chapters with little progression to the actual overall plot. The MC isn't stuck at the age of 8 as some sort of genius leading armies or governing his territory like in other works and actually trains, gradually getting stronger until he gets to the academy.

tldr: if you want to read another novel with a villainous noble turning over a new leaf and being misunderstood in the magical academy but with an actual end goal and clear stakes written in a fairly entertaining way this is for you. A cold MC or revenge plot isn't present and neither is romance or a harem so far. The translators are great and upload daily. <<less

This isn’t a transmigration story, but it feels like one—like your typical cowardly Japanese protagonist who gets transported to a different world. You might wonder, "So what?" Well, here's the issue: the main character (MC) was an arrogant, s*umbag type before he got executed. After his death, he suddenly returns to the past 10 years earlier, but this time, he's a completely different person—kind, good-hearted, and almost saintly. What?! This transformation doesn’t make sense at all. Given his previous personality, you'd expect him to harbor resentment towards anyone who didn’t... more>> help him back then, but instead, he morphs into a Mary Sue character.

Now, I don’t have a problem with characters redeeming themselves or becoming better people, but character development like that needs to be gradual. This shift is way too sudden and unrealistic unless it's a transmigration story. <<less
