Did I enjoy it? Yes.

Why was it 3 stars? Just because I enjoy it doesn't mean it was a 5 star book.

Actual rating is 3.5, but I pick 3 instead of 4 star mostly because I was a little pissed or more like disappointed of the overall story.

The novel started good, like really interesting. Though the premise was a little bit common with Kingdom Building System Book, and I was expecting it was just a copy of them with just a different setting, but it was not. The overall goal... more>> of the story was to create a number one resort in the world, in the modern world, and I say that is not something you always read.

The execution for the first arcs were good. I like the legitimacy of the process, as well as the real depiction of world traveling and not limiting the area to only China, a lot of chapters took place in Mexico, and I don't know if it was accurate, but at least I like the attempt, as it was not all the time you read this plot in other chinese novels.

The system then was accurate, stably constructed and the task was not favored to the protagonist, most of them were legitimately hard and I like how the MC work hard for it.

I like the MC is not s*upid. I like the process of transforming a barren island into a resort and I genuinely hooked by the things that the system would give and how the island would transform. I was invested.

But then tens of chapter later on, I felt the author decided to make haste of the whole story. Not that I mind, as I also think that if they have nothing to add more to the book, then just slowly wrap it. It's just that it wrapped without even 1/5 of the island were developed.

Spoiler

There's like 50 areas in the island, 25 were basic, 15 were intermediate and 10 were advanced, the MC has to developed this and they have to do some task in order to recieve some cards and they could use this cards to developed the island, Up until the end, he was only able to developed 7, and one of them was even not included in the 50 slots. There are three minor mentions of developed areas but it was never explored.

[collapse]

I feel the author by the end had already exhausted their ideas for another areas that they had decided to just end the book.

I feel there is still so much to explore but they, the author, had already lost the motivation to explore the kingdome building of the story. I feel by the 3/4 of the story, they already thought of abandoning it thus hastening the task even if only 1/5 of the island was already developed. It was disappointing, but its better that they even gave the effort of wrapping it up as decently as they could.

Translation wise, it was good. But there's a lot of incorrect data. Like it was 200k, then it become 20k the next chapter, then it become 2 mil. This so happened a lot of times, like hundred times no kidding, that I just disregard the numbers in the end. I dont know if the translator was only copying what the author wrote, or its their fault. Overall, as much as number is not concern, the translation was superb even though they change terms and names sometimes, at least the terms were just synonyms of the previous words so it was still readable.

With regards to accuracy, even if it was the translator's fault, the author is also not faultless, they're beyond faultless even.

They had this habit of convenience writing, if the plot demands it, they would change the system. Like when they needed an AI character or an item, even if they could not afford it or have not acquired it before, they would pull it out of the bag. Their money is not enough, no worry they'd make a new source of money for convenience just so they could afford it. This also reflects not just the inaccurate system but the plot itself. Like they needed a conflict, they'd make someone s*upid or greedy just so they could have conflict.

The system was really inaccurate.

Aside from that I was also miffed with the side plot of vilifying another country bordering xenophobic. I know East Asian countries, especially the big three, are xenophobic and racist, but it was still not good to write about it. Especially if they are the actual countries names. Even if I don't belong to this countries, the use of this plot was still sour in my mouth. Very crude. They should just make fake countries or rename some countries, this way vilifying them would not look like an actual attack to the other country.

Also, the romance part of the book, with how little, I mean really little it was, was still not well made in my books. Like it felt force. From far, they seemed to have some chemistry, but the execution was terrible, it felt arranged, unnatural even. Let's just say romance was not the strong suit of the author, which reflects to the other side characters or extras in the book.

They should have just remove the romance part, like it felt unnecessary. Especially the whole mermaid side-plot. Like what is that? Despite how magical the system was, bringing up mermaids in the end looked like a wish-fulfillment for the author. (The author was also very excited with their romance, as seen from the Author's theatre, that it gave me secondhand embarrassment.) By the end, there's almost nothing with the romance, and I did not even know how it work, except for the part that they had talked once or twice a month and somehow the just decided they loved each other. Even with how little screentime they have, even that little was bland.

That's when I realized that stripped of the system and the MC's goal of making a resort, he was pretty bland and very little personality. Like what was his likes and dislikes? His aspirations? Dreams? Even hobbies or favorite pastime. All he did was work for the system and even in his past time, he did nothing for himself. He was not even selfless to claim he's doing it for the island. Like who was he doing it for. What made him not a boring character was the goal given with the system, it was in line with the readers wants and when you really squint at him, you'll see a bland MC just going with the flow.

Did I hate it for him? No. For what its worth, this character brought me to the end and I don't hate him as a character or against of his flows and decisions. He just have little presets given by the author and I just felt sad for him.

In the end, I did finish it so I can say it was worth reading. I can even recommend it to you all, despite all these flows it was exhilarating and fun to see how a barren island developed to what it was in the end. It could have been better but I think it was also okay to settle with this level. Thank you author as I really enjoy reading it and that enjoyment was a precious thing not all authors can give to their readers. <<less

Still in progress, but a must read for lovers of slow burn development style novels. Most in this genre are historical- building a village types. What if it was modern? Try this out for a change!

Romance is not in the novel yet. The ML and MC have met but so far development is the point. I'm looking forward to seeing how this goes!

i totally agree with the points of the previous reviewer (sadie woods) ; if you're a fan of slow life, poor to rich, infrastructure, and/or hoarding type novels, defiantly check this one out! It's got a lot of the elements that make those types of novels enjoyable imo.

a generally relaxing atmosphere but with enough world building and subtle "power" creep to keep you engaged, reminiscent of those transmigration/rebirth in the 1950s-90s type farming/business growing novels. There's also a fun system that enhances the leveling up aspect similar to those primitive... more>> tribe building/historical village improvement type novels. And the point collecting+shopping aspect low key reminds me of apocalyptic hoarding novels. In other words, this novel combines a bunch of my favorite tropes lol.

the romance is definitely secondary which I actually prefer since it keeps the focus on the plot/world building but ML has been introduced and so far seems nice and am interested in his backstory.

translation is also well-done. Lacks the commonly seen mistakes in unedited/barely edited mtl like pronoun flipping and inconsistent character names. Formatting is good. While there are occasionally some very minor errors, it's super rare and also never anything that takes away from the reading immersion. Great job translator!

overall, highly recommend for fans of slice of life and looking forward to reading more! <<less

4.5 ⭐

Love the journey of the story. Slow burn, slice of life mix with fantasy.

MC not the OP person. He build the island step by step. Down to earth person and if you want a full story with romance and fluff, sorry, this is not the cup of tea.

Although the story a little bit slow, but for the reader who like poor to rich, infrastructure and mix with system (not annoying type), you may try this.

Overall, not fantastic journey but it's okay to read.
