In a future city intertwined with science, magic, and various races, a fearsome villain lives.

“How dare you try to use such a young child. Do you have no conscience?”

“It’s truly regrettable. To think that this girl could be the key to eradicating a den of evil.”

“You can rest easy now. We will definitely protect you.”

Sorry, but I’m actually that villain…

It seems like a serious misunderstanding.

A really adorable novel, where I want both adorable moments and eager for the op fights. It does a great job at conveying our character and misunderstandings or how they interpret her. It's like Kamen rider for me rather than magical girl in transformation. It's still a bit early and a bit slow tho so I cant review much.

It's decent, but the title and synopsis are somewhat misleading. She's not an actual villain (not even her alter ego, even if she killed a bunch of criminals), nor are the misunderstandings as clear as in the synopsis. Multiple people are expecting her to have some sort of connection to her alter ego, they just don't know what kind (and to be fair, none of them expect them to be the same).

As the "plot" of the world progresses, the novel focuses more on embracing the identity of a cute orphan... more>> rather than the terrifying alter ego she used. Readers who enjoy power fantasies can rest easy because she's still using her powers on occasion, hiding them as much as possible.

There are many similarities between the main characters of this and "I Became the Cute One in the Troubleshooter Squad", but most importantly this one uses written communication. If you can't speak, write. There are still cases of characters understanding non-verbal communication in conveniently nuanced detail, even though the exact way of communicating isn't described, but at least that's not the only way to communicate. And because this novel has a stronger theme of misunderstandings, occasional failures to communicate are fine and even create some comedy.

With the first story arc ending on such a clean break, I'm worried that the overall paradigm will fall into a strict pattern that could fit well into written volumes because I personally prefer the more continuous worlds of web novels for greater immersion, but it's too soon to tell (and if the info is correct, the raws aren't far ahead either, so it's impossible to know at this point).

Edit: It seems that instead of depth, it devolves into villain power creep. Strong heroes need stronger villains who need even stronger heroes because the author lacks the ability to make them stand out atop a consistent background, so they need to be built up with long chapters of "tell, don't show", and monologuing villains. The chapters in between have either cuteness or substance, but unfortunately there are also a bunch of chapters about clashing with villains on the level of kids TV shows. I wish the novel focused more on human interactions and the protagonists trauma and dilemma on dealing with her past, but at this point I won't hold out much hope that the story suddenly grows up.

It's still solid overall, but I'm downgrading my rating to 4 stars. <<less

It's a light-hearted novel that's enjoyable to read, yet still has a plot that's engaging. The main character and the atmosphere in the story are also cute and heartwarming

First of all, this is bait and switch. The girl on the cover has almost no relevance to the plot; 70% of the story is about the adventures of a character named Red.

Second, "Red" is the literal definition of a Mary Sue: an overpowered character who ends every fight with no effort, is inexplicably desired by everyone, and is absolutely pure-hearted. She bends reason and logic to her will. Her only flaw is that she loves her family too much.

Third, the story features five to six villains who are carbon... more>> copies of each other, spouting the very same convictions and getting beaten up by 'Red, ' resulting in a cringe-fest of epic proportions

Fourth, world-building simply doesn’t exist. How the post-apocalypse came to be? I have no idea. The four great organizations? They’re just... there. The Helpers? They just exist without explanation. The magic system supposedly does something, but it’s never clearly defined.

Fifth, the story is full of plot holes, inconsistencies, and contradictions. Most of them revolve around 'Red, ' but there are many, many more.

In conclusion, the author clearly tried to ride the hype around the 'Cute One in the Troubleshooter Squad'. The story was decent up until the first villain appeared, but after that, the author seemed to lose interest — which is evident in how lazily the story ends. <<less

This story follows a very, very similar setting to "I Became the Cute One in the Troubleshooter Squad", to the point I wouldn't be surprised it took direct inspiration. There are even "Problem Solvers' just as Troubleshooter Squad had fixers, all set in a gang-ridden rundown futuristic technological city with various fantasy races. The MC is even a secretly OP beautiful mute girl hiding behind a mask, another parallel.

Overall I agree with rcpsycho's review.

While it may look similar to I Became the Cute One in the Troubleshooter Squad at first, it dives into its own set of ideas and concepts after that. The novel's main strength comes from its clear focus on portraying a secret identity type story about a main character who suffers from past trauma and regret but doesn't clearly show it. My primary complaint is that I don't think the characters' line of thoughts and abilities all completely made sense, though they still made for decent setups for future character... more>> interactions, it does feel incredibly railroady. Honestly a 3.5/5 overall for me but it was a pretty fun read if you turn off your brain whenever things start to feel like it didn't made sense so it gets a 4/5 here because im good at doing that, if you like secret identity novels with a cute MC and some childcare themes this could be a rather nice read. <<less
