Recommendation for reading this novel: Hold on until ch.22 or 23 before rage-quitting like I almost did lol. And also TLDR SPOILER:

Spoiler

The "ML" isn't the true ML even if it takes quite a while to get to it.

[collapse]

With that out of the way, I'm kind of annoyed with myself even after finishing reading this.

I was looking for some turn-off-your-brain type of face-slapping villainess novel and the summary looked right up my alley. I check the reviews and tags and got ready to settle in.

But then midway the first chapter, I already wanted to drop, so I came back to the reviews for more spoilers to make sure I wasn't going to be wasting my time. The reviews gave me confidence that there was a twist, and there was, of which we get a glimpse of almost halfway through, hence my recommendation above.

So, spoiler again for the whole story's premise:

Spoiler

WZ, our main character, grew up as childhood sweethearts with GX, the OML. The real GX truly loves WZ. One day when the 'plot' begins, GX discovers the 'World consciousness' aka System. The system is instructed by higher realm beings to let the world follow the brain rot plot of '"Mr Gu Shao's Lover". GX resists at great cost to both him and the system, because of his strong will not to be manipulated and love for WZ. After many resets and repetitions, where the system has almost exhausted all of it's 'energy', GX makes a deal with the system. Since the 'plot' can't be reversed, GX chooses to no longer be 'GX' and exist as a different man, makes the system give WZ a chance to fight back for a way to survive, all the while trusting WZ to figure it all out.

The 'plot' begins when WZ is 18, where she gets repeatedly hurt for 5years by 'GX' (a higher realm being who chases his lover into this 'small world' and feels entitled to GX's identity, without any thought to the original GX or other people in what he views as a very lowly weak world). WZ survives the 'plot' and takes revenge on 'GX' and SM, the third party wh*re. SM's soul is the fake GX's lover from a 'higher realm', who was sent to the lower realms as punishment for being dumb.

WZ became warped because Of the 5yrs of pain and her traumatizing 'ending' in the 'plot'. The real GX is also a psycho now because of his experiences. They beat the fake GX and live happily yandere-ly after lol

My thoughts:

Spoiler

I honestly wanted to quit reading and drop this, because the story plays out in the beginning as making it seem that 'GX' (who we don't know is a fake) is still the ML to our MC, WZ.

I like badass MCs, and I honestly would have enjoyed WZ torturing GX and his lover, before finding a real man who deserves her. So I wanted to quit when I thought she still wanted GX. I was heartened by the reviews promising a twist. Which I am grateful for.

But then I kept reading, and while there were glimpses of some satisfying faceslapping, I honestly barely enjoyed reading this. It felt exhausting despite being a pretty short 50chapters. The world building was a bit dumb. The s*upidity of the villains (fakeGX, SM, and the system) was pretty mind numbing.

A very good read. Although it would make you question your morals once in a while and may be the reason why the rating is low lol.

the FL is a villainess. And don't expect any less from her because she truly embodies it. So if you don't like ab*se, this novel isn't for you because there's a lot of it (satisfying tho)

oh and I love how the "ml's" family is on the fl's side lolol

I wont say anything further bcs it would take out the enjoyment from ur reading... more>> lol.

I just highly recommend this. <<less

This is surprisingly good. Specifically, in a meta way. It's not very original, intricately plotted, emotionally resonate, or deeply characterized. But it is in dialogue with its genres and tropes in a really interesting way. It's rather well-written and well-translated. The literary irony is also pretty funny at times.

Girl is a legit villainess in both lives imo. She feels sorry for herself when she's introduced and she has good reason to, but we can see that she wasn't entirely controlled or framed in the first timeline. She chose violence 😂... more>> and doubled down when she got a second chance.

It's rare among the many so-called villainesses who are almost-innocent victims. She's not trying to redeem herself, get revenge by living her best life, or "ethically" limit herself to only reflecting back the schemes of her enemies without taking initiative. Her revenge covers all the bases from physical to emotional to financial torment and she feels no shame or remorse about it.

The parts that flub are unfortunately rather important parts. The big reveals, major moments for the overarching plot, and parts when the FL figures out "the secret truths." She does so too abruptly, seemingly without reason. It's reasonable that she guesses some things, she's written as smart and genre-savvy. But in contrast to the steady way she torments the people who hurt her, the revelations are always too sudden. So they feel (ironically) forced.

Still, this doesn't ruin it—it just would have been better if there had more breadcrumbs and less dumping. That would have had me writing my in review, "this is freaking amazing, " instead of just saying it's surprisingly good.

BTW, repeat after me. Having "a setting" is not the same as having "world-building." A setting is a basic, world-building is advanced. You probably mean "the setting" not "the world-building." <<less

From the beginning, I knew this was going to be good. In the middle of the story, everything was so deranged. I love it. It screamed ANGER and REVENGE. It was so violent. But damn, the fricking twist near the end????? Good plot. Good characters. This was so convoluted in a way that benefits the plot even further. Though there was some loopholes, I was still immersed in the story.

It's a very interesting twist with the real FL being smart and ruthless. Finally a novel where she shines constantly and not rely on just the ML. I love the plot twist.

I dont know why this has low rating. Probably people only read the early chapters and just stopped reading.

I was like that too, I thought the FL was too much and should have just left the ML, and in the middle, I thought I was right but unexpectedly it was a different setting.
Spoiler

me thinking the ML was bewitched or his memory was altered, but it was not. The OML was in a different person. It also put it into perspective the people who transmigrate and doesn't care what they do to other people, doesn't care of the consequences done to the world, thinking themselves as higher beings than the people in that world. That the world they are invading are just characters that they can end whenever they want

[collapse]

Spoiler

Noted also when the transmigrator invaded the ML body, what happened to the original. Was his character just erased just like the other transmigrated novels. We see here he did not let himself be controlled and made himself a new person

[collapse]

The ending may be quite abrupt, very limited sweet moments. More like an open ending but you can see the end. I did hope there was an extra. But it was indeed satisfying.

Morals aside..... it’s a worthwhile read. I think it’s pretty unique in plot and theme. The FML is a lot to my taste, though, I’d prefer a more elegant... less brutal FML. That said, her actions and behavior does fit with her character. ML is great, I love him (wished I had one, really). I love their relationship. Although part of me wants more sweetness, the other part of me thinks the story happened and ended the way it should have.

This novel is rated unfairly.... This story is none like other...

I have read stories of rebirth, Transmigration how FL given 2nd chance try to walk away and Start afresh or try to revenge and fall for new ML or the original ML is whitewashed.. but at the end final story is the same...

But this one is a bomb where FL is not confused by system, don't want to change the story or start afresh by forgetting her death or anything...

She wants to torture those that harmed her but... more>> not starting afresh, she willing still marry the ML to torture him... and seek her years of relationships payment in her way...

Though ML Identity comes with a twist its worth not following the traditional way... <<less
