At the new Emperor’s ascension ceremony, the Young Prince of Lin’an died shielding His Majesty with his sword. Enraged, His Majesty ordered a thorough investigation into the case. However, the inquiry unexpectedly uncovered the Demon Gu Cult, notorious for its accumulated evil deeds, and even implicated the late Former Crown Prince in unsavory affairs from before his death, shocking the entire world.

The Demon Gu Cult had no demons, only ghosts, and its crimes were mostly related to matters of spirits and deities. His Majesty immediately issued widespread imperial edicts, recruiting extraordinary individuals from among the common folk to assist officials in investigating the cases.

Meanwhile, in Osmanthus Township, a thousand li from the capital city, the door of a ghost catcher, who had only recently risen to prominence, was being gently knocked upon by a eunuch who had arrived bearing a secret decree.

Lian Yinian had died twice, yet failed to stay dead.

The first time was a car accident, which unfortunately caused him to transmigrate. The second time occurred at the new Emperor’s ascension ceremony; a sword from a remnant of the Former Crown Prince’s faction, intended to assassinate His Majesty, went astray and pierced the heart of him, the court’s sole remaining prince of a different surname.

He had thought he could finally close his eyes in peace, but who knew that with one blink, he would awaken alive in a brand new body.

This time, it even came with a complete set of spiritualist abilities: he could see ghosts, he could kill ghosts, and he was the last living heir of a ghost-catching lineage.

Lian Yinian only wanted to make a living with these abilities, but due to the Demon Gu Cult case, he found himself back in the Imperial Palace once more.

Inside the bedchamber, the Son of Heaven leaned before the couch, chin propped on his hand, eyes closed. Draped over his shoulders was an outer robe once worn by the Young Prince of Lin’an before his death. He asked him in a lazy tone:

“Sir, since you can communicate with the netherworld and perceive ghosts and spirits, can you bring the dead back to life?”

Lian Yinian: “…”

The main pairing is gong dominant. It features a pseudo-sorcerer and a true Son of Heaven. The gong, in his previous life, was a prince of a different surname and shares no blood relation with the emperor.

Throughout the story, only the gong possesses a golden finger (a special advantage or plot armor).
