Loved it! Great novel, characters are complex and not one dimensional. You can feel their conflicts and emotions through the little nuances. The romance is also swoon worthy. The first novel I’ve read where you can really feel for an Emperor’s burden and difficulties. The extras on the Emperor’s alternative life was satisfying.

Read this cause I like the translator's other works. And I'm truly not disappointed. Only downside is that it's still ongoing. Till now the story is intriguing without much muddling around or filler chapters. Definitely worth a try.

my opinion on ML: satisfied. I don't think the ML is overbearing, he just wants to protect the FL to the best of his abilities. I think this much is fine in a historical novel full of intrigues and schemes. Personally I never found it off-putting while reading it. The multiple love interests also isn't that bad and don't come in the way much.

Looking forward to the rest of chapters and hoping the characters don't disappoint later on.

I didn't know this story was still on-going but I'm glad I picked it up from the Translator's website. I love the characters described and I'm rooting really hard for ML. He is the dedicated and silent follower kind of male lead and you can tell that he really wants to protect MC but he doesn't restrict her.

The current chapters are at a climax where certain plots are being revealed and I'm super excited to follow the novel and see where the story goes. Kudos to the translator for the... more>> good quality writing. The story flows smoothly and the description is great. Every character feels unique and special <<less

I went into this book, wanting to like it really bad... cause it's Peng Lai Ke, and I loved Marquis is Innocent. I do not particularly like the powerlessness of his protagonists... particularly at the beginning, where they're mostly stuck under the mercy of the male leads... but considering the historicity, I could force myself to look past that.

But even so, it's 2024 now, and while its essential to write 'realistic' misogynistic male leads, I'm finding it harder to tolerate them. Any use of force to dominate over a woman- already in a weaker position, is something I simply cannot stomach any longer. It's not attractive, but disgusting. Having multiple male leads literally fight to assert dominance upon the female protagonist's person, time and agency is barbaric. Atleast, the author is also aware that this is the case (easily discernible from the discomfort that she feels). What I dislike is, his attempt to romanticize it in spite of that.

The translation is wonderful, and the translator has done a beautiful job in translating the text... but even that is not enough to make me look past the plot.

Except for that, the quality of the prose is really good.... and for historical romance readers, this would be a highly enjoyable read. (Provided you can look past the intrinsic misogyny).
