“Society’s Big Sister Sheng doesn’t talk much but acts decisively. Not convinced? Let’s settle it with action!”

In the year 2323 of the Star Era, the apocalypse is on the horizon. Some people have already awakened superpowers, while reincarnators are beginning to stir…

Sheng An, newly appointed head of a special department, is tasked with recruiting and leading all superhumans and reincarnators to prepare for the apocalypse and face the incoming calamity.

How will she handle this group of so-called “protagonists” who all believe they are the chosen ones?

The currently unawakened boss Sheng An: “Thanks, but I have the national government behind me.”

With tools like clairvoyance, satellite surveillance, admin privileges, advanced weaponry, big data, and cutting-edge science and technology…

Sheng An: “So, sweetie, care to join us?”

The “chosen ones”: “Do we even have a choice?”

Sheng An, smiling: “You don’t.”

A gorgeous and powerful female lead versus a super-handsome male lead. A fresh perspective on an apocalypse-themed power fantasy novel—quirky and unconventional!

A hidden gem! I found a hidden gem!

Ok, let's start with a short synopsis:

The government recently found something weird. They found some people popping up announcing themselves as the 'Chosen Ones'. Some proclaim to be reborn, some started possessing powers of all kinds. All thinking they are the one and only protagonists of the world!

So the government decided to create a department to check out what's going. Sheng An, the appointed head of the department goes around collecting these self-proclaimed main characters one by one. In doing so she and... more>> the government finds out the reason why these people suddenly emerged.

The world is ending.

Join Sheng An and her team of lunatics in their quest to save the world from natural disasters, extra-terrestrial enemies and a world-ending........ egg (?)

What I liked:

Love love each and every side character in this novel. Every single one of them was fleshed out and had their own characteristics. Like ignoring the absolutely hilarious band of dimwits on Sheng An's team, the researchers and government officials actually do their job! They discover very important plot points, they help sustain the world and they are all very good at their jobs! Like you don't know how many novels I've read where these top experts go to the MC and go "What should we do now?". I swear, it irritates me everytime.

The MC's team is so precious and genuinely funny. They also have actual parts in the novel where they do their bit at saving the world. I absolutely adore each and every one of them.

I usually dont like novels where MC is already with ML at the start. Like where is the butterflies in the stomach? Where is the secret blushing and confessing of feelings? However the MC and ML in this novel, they are the very definition of a picture perfect couple. They support each other through thick and thin and are willing to die for each other. Their relationship dont take the spotlight in the novel but their love really comes through.

The plot was very well written and every plotline mentioned was tied up perfectly at the end.

Overall, such a good read. Definitely recommend. <<less

The novel had an intriguing start, especially with the heroine. She came across as a strong, no-nonsense character, which really pulled me in, the sunglasses Matrix really cool type of heroine ⊂ (▀¯▀⊂).

At first, she seemed like the ultimate badass (ง'̀-'́) ง, and I was all in for her journey. But as the story progressed, it lost momentum ฅ⁽͑ ˚̀ ˙̭ ˚́ ⁾̉ฅ...

Big spoilers about the story...

Spoiler of the heroine, Sheng An...

Spoiler

She was the leader of the superpowers and was very patriotic and had the total support of the leaders of China...

But for a large chunk of the book, she didn't even have her powers despite according to the prophecy she possessed the strongest superpower, the psychic power: time...

but she spent most of her time coordinating the team and devising strategies instead of directly fighting. Sure, it was important, but I wanted more action, more of her leading the charge of fights, not just strategizing behind the scenes. She only got her powers back after two-thirds into the book, around chapter 200 or so, which felt a bit late for me.

The romance and male lead...

(ღ ・ิ◡・ิ) ε ・ิ ღ)

Spoiler

Though the story it started with the heroine already with the male lead, the powerful leader of the elite soldiers of China Qi Lingwu, the romance didn't really do much either.

The male lead barely spoke, I think he couldn't even be considered a main character... their romantic interactions were really creepy sometimes too... she asked if she turned into an alien what should she do? He answered that he would always support her... he grabbed a bullet and said he would kill her and then kill himself... really romantic, I guess? ( ̄﹃ ̄)

He mostly followed the heroine around, watching her back. It lacked the spark I was hoping for. So, I would say, the novel had a subplot romance...

Another thing that bothered me was the nationalism woven into the plot...

Spoiler

China discovered the impending apocalypse before the rest of the world and used this information to secure power by selling the information right at the door of the day of the apocalypse, not giving other countries time to prepare for the end of the world...

They literally sold the information in exchange for supplies, and in the end refused to accept foreign refugees.

The heroine's unwavering loyalty to her country made me uncomfortable and annoyed too.

She was willing to sacrifice her loved ones for the greater good, which felt cold and detached.

It raises the age-old question: what's more important, the lives of a few or the survival of humanity? While logically it makes sense, I couldn't get behind it emotionally. Personally, I couldn't sacrifice the people I care about, even for the survival of the world. The protagonist's patriotism left me conflicted.

Then came the heartache... (づ-̩̩̩-̩̩̩_-̩̩̩-̩̩̩) づ

Spoiler

So many great characters were killed off... and I kept waiting for a twist where she'd go back in time and save them—like she had done before—but that didn't happen. I'm torn between giving it 3 or 4 stars. Despite its flaws, the story did manage to tug at my emotions, and I found myself crying at several points.

Here comes the big spoiler...

Spoiler

Now, onto my favorite character: Hao Jingye...

Hao was the heroine's trusted assistant, incredibly intelligent despite having no superpowers. He turned out to be a half-alien, and everyone assumed he was the big bad. But he was actually a pawn, manipulated by the true villain—a powerful alien that fed on life to grow stronger. Hao was torn between his alien instincts to destroy humanity and his human side, which still cared for the people he loved, especially the heroine and her group. His ultimate sacrifice in saving humanity was one of the highlights for me.

Zhang Jialiang, another character, had a particularly tragic end. He was just an ordinary guy, full of hope and positivity, eager to join the heroine's team in hopes of gaining powers. But instead, he became an immortal alien. He tried to end his life eight times but didn't succeed, so in the end he was killed by the heroine. It was heartbreaking, especially since all he wanted was to protect his family and not disappoint the heroine.

In the end, while it wasn't the best apocalypse novel I've read, it still left an impact. It made me feel deeply, and for that, I'd still consider it a good read ٩ (。•́‿•̀。) ۶. <<less
