  1. Wasted potential.
  2. The chapters before the immortal world was introduced were amazing, you had fun interactions/moments, cultivation, MC showing off his skills from time to time, a little bit of world building, interesting/fun characters, hype about what would happen once he became 1000-year old.
  3. But the immortal world got introduced everything took a nosedive.
  4. Fights? Barely any at all, interactions? Does him kicking Dao Comprehension out of his cave everytime he's about to breakthrough enough?
  5. What about him cutting ties with the sect and now trying to get rid of the girls around him? Sigh.. World building? The author decided to downgrade the novel and make it a spinoff of journey to the west, hype about his 1000 year achievement? Killed off, he's still sitting in his cave like a p**sy, novel should be renamed to "Secretly Cultivating for Thousands of Years", probably will go in the millions of years because the author won't stop adding more cultivation realms and more stages between them.
  6. So the current state of the novel is: no world building because the novel became a spinoff, almost no interactions or fights because the MC barely comes out of his cave and cultivation doesn't really matter because the MC is thousand years behind his daddy, the heavenly emperor.
  7. Oh by the way, did I mention how the author also pulled a "everything the MC did was a plan from X all along?" yeah.. The novel right now is completely soulless.

loved it at first

but rereading it I can see some things that annoy me alot

mainly

... more>> - MC is a MASSIVE Hypocrite, he plays massive favouritism

- rules for thee not for me type mentality

- ants this ants that

- looks down on people that he was the same as 10 chapters ago

- sets rules for everyone, immediately doesn't apply for the women who f*ck him

- classic "its normal for me sleep with multiple women because you weren't around" bullshit

- thinks torture and death are good "training" techniques for people, even his own children

- lets his entire family be killed because they are weak and of course, letting trillions of people die that he could easily save (we know because he has done it once) and just doesn't because... "lowkey", even when the rewards he would get would be 10x better than the lowkey option

-

MC may be a coward, that I can enjoy/get over, but he is a an annoying hypocritical b*tch

-

Recent Edit - Spoilers about his "Family"

Spoiler

MC is creepy and a bit sexist towards his daughter, I dont understand why people think being a possesive creep towards your daughters is entertaining, or whatever reason they keep doing it, its annoying even with the blatant double standards, author strikes me as one of those neckbeards that only accepts virg*ns as wives and thinks having a daughter is cuckery

MCs first Child - Male, abandoned, MC crippled his talent, let him die a lot for no particular reason, has probably spent less than 100 years interacting with him less than 10 years if you only count him actually talking to him and not "Preaching the Dao"/saying how dissapointed he is in him because xyz

MCs second Child - also Male, is in wife number 2s belly for hundreds of chapters and is basically only talked about as a cultivation device for the wife so she can use him for his talent and catch upto MCs cultivation which she fails at anyway

MCs Third Child - Female, locked in his Dao field for 100k years, cant leave without MCs permission, openly says that sons should be kicked out of the house and daughter should stay and be pampered her entire life, only interacts with MCs wife who he also abandoned for 5 million years, its been like 2 chapters since her birth so not much is know about her yet

[collapse]

edit : im reading alot of reviews that make me mad

i know I did 3 stars but these people are litteraly complaining about a novel that tells you what it is

like would you be upset by harems if you were reading a novel where in the first chapter the MC said "i want jade beauty harem"

like you f*cking idiots, the novel is about a coward MC stop complaining about a coward mc

2 stars edit

so its getting into the end phase of the novel and MC has just Straight Up turned into a Young Master a**hole

guessing the author purposely waited this long to do it so most people wouldn't drop the novel because of how bad the MC has turned

if the MC had this personality at the start it would be instant 1 star that wouldn't make it past the first 50 chapters before getting cancelled <<less

I have never bothered to write review on a novel before. This time though, I can’t help but pissed off about this shitty MC. He is a cultivator and act like a coward. The way he just think he can surpassed anything with just top tier talent pissed me off. If you like some shittty lazy bastard beating every hard working people, this is for you. But if you hate this idea, don’t ever try it. A 1 star for me

Fairly fun towards the beginning with an interesting concept of hiding until you're strong. However the premise really falls off as the MC becomes stronger than everyone but the story keeps going. There's no real conflict, no suspense by the last couple hundred chapters. There's only an urge to finish reading the story and move on.

Like others of the genre, it's good in the 'mortal world' but then becomes a bunch of rubbish when the immortal world is introduced (150~chapters), even worse when it becomes just a 'journey to the west' or 'investiture of the gods' fanfiction...

"IGNORE EVERY NEGATIVE REVIEW FOR THIS NOVEL"

Anyone with a few neurons knows almost 5 star reviews should be ignored, 3~4 stars should be taken into consideration after reading 1~2 stars.

... more>> 1~2 stars: bigger problems or qualities, it depends on the preferences of each one.

3~4 stars: Small problems or qualities, depends on one's preferences.

I only read the 1~2 stars, to see if there's something I hate in the story, if not, I don't read the others either, I prefer to see for myself.

People who give 5 stars are probably: people who read few chapters, fanboys, someone in puberty, first-time readers, someone in the group or someone connected to the translation group. <<less

Started reading just out of curiosity from all the positive reviews, boy that was a mistake. The first 100 chapter is just hot garbage. The characters doesn't stand out, the cultivation level/description/strength is just as generic as all the other cultivation WNs. The MC's personality and demeanor does stand out compare to the popular WNs of the same genre but once you get pass that, there is nothing unique.

Maybe I'll give this a second change after a few years after forgetting that mess that I just read that was the... more>> first 100. I absolutely recommend just skipping the first 100 chapters as it literally tells you nothing. <<less

this is actually almost great.

UNIQUE protagonist, yes, that's finally happening. he's not very predictable, he doesn't run around like a monkey every time his acquaintances get themselves in trouble even tho he's not evil because everyone makes their own choices.

the whole world is built on stereotypes and he does his best to avoid all of them.

some things are a bit repetitive and some are too long winded, so 4/5, but otherwise not a waste of time compared to the alternatives...

tdlr: it’s a 6.5/10 only because the parts I liked I REALLY liked.

So this story starts out like a typical system cultivated story. Then at a certain point the MC pops a squat in a cave and literally almost never leaves after that. To be honest this aspect of the story is what kept me going til completion. It was new I’d never seen a xianxia author take an antithetical approach to the genre.

Not to mention the story is fairly humorous even if it does get dry and repetitive. Also... more>> because of the MC complete unwillingness to interact with the world. The side characters of the story are a bit more fleshed out than they normally would be in these kinds of stories. Lastly the few times he DOES leave his cave to deal with his enemies. Can be quite fun and cathartic particularly one event early on and one in the later on especially.

The beginning of the story is undoubtedly the best. However there are great moments in throughout the story.

(spoilers ahead)

Unfortunately this is where my praise stops.

Don't get me wrong I still like the story however it has GLARING issues. The author may have been excited in the beginning. I say MAY because the beginning of this story is legitimately one the best starts I’ve ever read in a cultivation story.

However that passion died FAST. It basically died the minute the immortal world got introduced. Seemingly important side characters get thrown to the side. Because of the constant never ending introduction of new characters in literally EVERY chapter.

Also, even though cultivation story’s never really give you a map of the world. I seriously don’t think I’ve ever encountered worse world building.

“They were in the mortal world it’s vast seemingly endless”

“They were in the heavenly dao immortal world it was vast seemingly endless”

“they were in the chaos it was vast literally endless”

“They were in the blank domain it was vast even more endless”

That’s basically as descriptive as if gets. The word count padding is also hilariously obvious. Eventually the MC starts creating these things called fiendcelestials. There’s 3000 of them and the author named 1000 of through out the story in batches. I’m talking (insert name) fiendcelestial copy pasted literally 50 times.

Now for the 2 things that p*ssed me off the most.

1: The author repeatedly shows chekov’s gun and then says “f*ck you just look at it I’m never firing it”. Entire plotpoints hinted at or directly stated in a chapter. That the author literally NEVER addresses again. Or worse repeatedly hints but literally never goes anywhere.

2: the last almost 200 chapters are asinine. The author sets up what could EASILY be the climax and end/near end of the story 200 chapters earlier. But continues to drag it further hinting at more sh*t that will never matter or ever be resolved because it ends fairly abruptly. Not that I wanted it to continue to be fair. <<less

This novel is unique in that the author follows through all the way on a main character that likes to cultivate in seclusion. When the main character is this boring, the thing that will carry the novel is the side characters, but unfortunately the author kind of dropped the ball in that department. By the end of the novel, which turned into a sort of slice of life arc, I was completely uninterested in any of the side characters and ended up skimming through chapters that had to do with... more>> their cultivation to get to the chapters with the MC in focus. Overall, I would recommend this novel if you're looking for something different from the typical Xianxia novel of constant arrogant young masters and face slapping. <<less

The novel started off quite well, with the MC only wanting to cultivate and become stronger.

It was good for the first 300 chapters before everything went downhill. Would be a 5 star, unfortunately, I could only give 2.

It turned to sh*t after the Heavenly Emperor (HE) started coming out. The MC who passively avoided trouble started creating trouble with people for the HE. He neglects his disciple and everyone close to him just because of the HE. MC repeatedly states that he has repaid the HE for all that he... more>> has done yet he is still extremely fixated on the HE. Even after the HE turns dark, MC constantly worries about the HE, to a disgusting point where it felt like I was reading a Yaoi novel.

MC is a hypocrite. He wants all his disciples, and dao companions to stay hidden and to always be cultivating. When the disciples leave the sect and encounter problems, instead of helping them, MC would say they choose that path, and they deserve it. Yet when the HE does s*upid shit, the MC would help him in the dark with the excuse that the HE has helped him a lot. The number of times the HE helped him can be counted on one hand.

The long period of cultivation probably damaged the MC's brain. He wants all his disciples to stay and cultivate a certain realm before they can leave. If MC did not have that system, he would probably not be able to cultivate much, yet he expects everyone to be as 'awesome' as him. The MC's personality shift is ret*rded. <<less

Only for veterans.

don’t trust the reviews that say he’s a Pxssy because he is not. He’s just too strong.

The only reason he dosent leave his mountain or dosent fight much is because there is no reason to. He dosent want to be the protagonist, he wants to be the backer the other protagonist in xianxia don’t have and wants his disciples and descendants to fight for opportunities.

Plus I saw other reviews saying with 60% of winning he will not fight. That’s fck reasonable. Because he knows he dosent have any... more>> backing nor any plot armour. Only his talent and himself. So why put himself at risk for no reason, like some others who will gladly go in a suicidal figth to save a women who he barely knows from her fiancé just because she looks good to be both hated by her family and the fiancé family, and then she will either join his harem or be forgotten like that is cringe.

all in all if you are tired of MC chasing beauties creating feuds with others over the smallest thing his companions getting kidnapped and him training to save them. This is it chief.

MC if fully invincible never looses a figth never in a desperate situation always on top of the world. And yes there are interaction but why waste your time interacting with minor characters that will be forgotten sooner or later like city lords or other sect masters.

btw best girl is the first one. Because finally she’s not a random bimbo who gets MC in trouble with random ym/random fiancé/random secret family. Bro she is so likeable I swear. <<less

Having read Chinese novels for a long time I consider myself a veteran in the field and as a veteran I can say that this is honestly like a breath of fresh air. Having seen novel after novel that use countless cliches to drive their plot this novel is like a godsend all he does is stay in hiding and cultivate but it still manages to be fun because he confronts people in the dark by cursing them or he only confronts them when he's strong enough. In end, if... more>> you are new to Chinese novels and are still hot-blooded youth that craves action then this probably isn't for you but for my fellow veterans who have seen it all and are tired having been worn down by the long years give this a try you won't regret. As for those claiming MC'S a coward, I commend you for what great heroes you must be otherwise why would you think dying bravely in battle instead of avoiding fights that happen for no reason is a bad thing? In all seriousness, you yourself know that if in the same situation as the MC you would do the same thing or maybe even manage to do something even more s*upid so please stop calling him a coward the author is just being realistic about human nature.

By the way, I'm actually almost done with the novel but I can't remember what chapter I'm in since I planned on rereading it when its completed so don't trust the 986 chapter thing I've read further than that I assure you. <<less

Read the story all way up and past the part he survives the great catastrophe of the immortal realm. And those hundreds of chapters are beyond stale at this point. Sure its funny to see the MC sit in his sects mountain, but after dozens of rinse and repeats of: villain comes to make trouble, friends need his help. MC one shots them without moving an inch, MC proceeds to cultivate again and the system ups his defenses for the next wave of higher tier fodder.

I'm serious about the system... more>> though.

The System is a crutch that the Author uses all the time. There has been zero instances of a legitimate threat that can actually get through his ultra grade defense array of BS. So at no point has the MC ever been in any harm cause he is given limited (unlimited) one shot abilities for those who can.

The worst part is when the whole mountain starts flying into outer space and through the mortal/immortal realms. At this point, I am like... Wtf is going on?

Why are we being introduce to some weird space opera when the Black Phoenix attacks the other refugees in the Nether (Limbo) ? Wtf does the space mountain run away to hide in the void because of some apocalypse.? Wtf are the new origin lifeforms who number 100million, unanimously decide to live on this ever expanding expanse of land?

To top it all off.... the book of curses allows the MC to kill anyone. And I mean anyone since all it takes is 1billion years of life out of his 100qtrillion to kill any being. This is the most ass pull move I've ever read. And it gets worse when all this cursing causes said cataclysm.

So.... I think we can all agree this MC is a loser who wiped out the whole of existence due to not understanding his powers. All the cursing he does is the sole ability that's been used recently. The instant one shot skill cards are no longer needed when the MC can literally prevent the Dao/Heavens themselves from trespassing on his land that is slowly but surely taking over every spec of existence.

Extremely good cultivation novel, first of all, the MC isn't arrogant even when he becomes op, although cultivation speed is kinda fast, what do you expect when MC doesn't do anything but cultivate, although there is a harem, there is no smut or cringe conversations, I've read the mtls and MC becomes invincible but doesn't become badass and is usually calm, perfect example of a low-key protagonist and a really good read too.

This novel tackles a big issue I see in cultivation novels, understanding of danger. Immortality/long life is far more valuable than risking it all on pride.

We see time and again that a MC can win against a stronger apponent, against high cultivation, against an army! But in reality dozen if not hundreds of enemies should be able to overwelm and exhaust. Here we have a MC that recognizes slow solid progress wins over righteous pride.

What can I say... It's lackluster? It's not "bad" per-say; however, this reads like it's a journal of someone's daily life. For instance, this novel moves so quickly because of how the "system" works and the author writes, he's accomplished in 50 chapters what most cultivation novels take anywhere between 300-500. No joke, by chapter 50 he's as strong as super expert old fogies in the strongest sects (at the time of course).

Hell, by chapter 30 something, he's already surpassed his master and sect leader. It essentially goes like this,... more>> cultivate in cave> something happens>ignore it until he becomes stronger>repeat. If you're bored and just want quick satisfaction, read this. It can be funny, and it's mostly light-hearted, so there isn't a lot of angsty drama to the novel.

Besides that, the biggest draw and turn-off for me is the MC. Because he understands all the troupes of cultivation novels in his past life, he does what he can to avoid them. Unfortunately, because of this, he ends up being a prick sometimes. For example,
Spoiler

his disciple and friend are being tortured but does nothing because he's afraid he's not strong enough to at least save them (at the time, he definitely was).

[collapse]
This repeats throughout the novel.

TL;DR: It's extremely fast passed with little drama and hiccups. This, to me, is for the most part, what I would consider a cultivation "slice-of-life" novel. <<less

The novel doesn't start with MC being already at the peak at chapter 1 unlike what we can thought after reading the summary with that thousand years time skip. (At least that's what I thought lol)

Our protagonist will almost always cultivating. Quick breakthroughs with time skips. 'Regularly' saving his sect. Never travel out of his sect. There is a change in MC's personality at some points. At first he doesn't care about romance always saying they are burdens but later he suddenly start caring.

Sure this isn't perfect with some... more>> issues here and there but this is still a fine read overall.

Edit : This is getting a bit repetitive lately, not because he always stay home but how the personality of various characters aren't really original. At least for me many start to look similar. <<less

Slightly mixed reviews about this story. The author stays true throughout the story to the MC's personality of being cautious and paranoid, which I can appreciate. I also appreciate that the world and side characters are given a lot of emphasis, especially the children and descendants. I feel like that does not happen very much in similar cultivation novels. That being said, the author makes a lot of things very mysterious for no reason, keeping things extremely meta and philosophical especially later on when we reach Dao Creator and beyond.... more>> At least this is a story with a conclusion, which can't be said of many works from Qidian. <<less

The novel started off good. Because it promised something different than usual. But eventually it becomes quite boring, monotonous journey. If you skip like 800 chapters and read the final one, you will not miss anything! And the ending felt forced, desperate. Even the author was bored writing the story, I guess. Don't read unless you really want to waste time.

stopped reading when Heavenly emperor got introduced around 300 chap, its like reading yaoi novel, MC is so fixated on saving him, despite he repeatedly says he already paid him back enough (after spending trillions of years for changing the result of the war in favor of Heavenly Emperor). He kept iterating he will cultivate peacefully, yet keep meddling in the war, when he already knows the best outcome for him, all for the sake of saving the Heavenly Emperor. Dont bother wasting time reading this.
