Honestly a mid tier novel, I thought the 3.5 rating on novelupdate was just some people dragging it down but surprisingly it's an accurate rating.

The protagonist is Shingo Kurosawa, the butler of Amelia Iori Lionheart, the heroine of the manga “To Love X Lady”. He was once a Korean man who was obsessed with the mentioned manga and loves the character Amelia, he even flew to Japan just to but the latest volume. But the ending betrayed him, instead of the most popular character Amelia being chosen as the lover,... more>> the original protag went with some other chick. This obviously makes him sad and angry, but he then got transmigrated into the novel as the butler and set out to watch over his favorite character.

Spoiler

Honestly, solid foundation and storyline, very easy to understand. But the immersion breaks off for me immediately at chapter 2.

You see, Shingo transmigrated but not when he was a butler, it's when Shingo and Amelia first met. And Shingo... was a homeless person.

It's not that much of a big deal at first but then when this homeless guy randomly got up and protect Amelia from some thugs she immediately went "Ohoho, I shall take this homeless person, take him to my mansion (legit a car showed up and the heroine told him to go in without explaining sh*t and this homeless dude just went with it) and turn this man with no known origins and maybe lied about his age into my personal butler who handles my everyday life"

The immersion instantly break for me after that, I stuck around for 2 more chaps but honestly I just half read half dozed off.

3.5 star but I cant do that so 4 stars :p <<less

Honestly the story is so bad it's even a waste translating it (especially since the TL quality is so good) . In summary the story is a fanfic self insert of a korean guy in a Japanese harem story as a gary stu to replace the story's protagonist.

The title and summary are both clear clickbait since MC transmigrates just before the story starts (which also is conveniently when he is taken in as a butler). Though the real issue is the blatant contradictions, illogical flow of events and... more>> everyone following for MC's inhuman perfection (even in cases where his actions are downright creepy).

Ok so in the prologue itself we see he's creepily obsessed with the novel and has himself declared who the winning heroine is for sure. And when she doesn't win he literally barges into their office to attack the author.

Next are the chapter spoilers this is gonna be long

Spoiler

Then the first contradiction is when he is in his new body as a homeless kid he has memories of having served the heroine as her butler. But the issue is this is before the story even began. Next is his fight with bullies, somehow a homeless starving kid is super strong.

Then is that a rich lady is walking alone randomly in a park and has to call her butler.

Then at their mansion as a homeless kid he acts arrogant af and then he suddenly asks for a bath before eating. And this whole scene she is somehow acting more like a servant to him the entire time. Then there's the random part of taking an unknown homeless kid as a personal butler. Comically the MC comments on this as a blemish of a homeless guy becoming a butler instead of it being absurd. Again here she appears more desperate (saying she expected rejection) than MC who actually needs it.

Next is the contradiction of him saying he never attending school before immediately reading a contract thoroughly and remarking on it. Then is her gushing on his 'presence' when he is just a homeless kid in rags.

Next is the contradiction where he gives his korean name and she fears he'll face discrimination so wants to give him a Japanese name shingo Kurosawa (which is supposed to be his og name before becoming an orphan so it makes no sense why she's giving him the same exact name)

Also his act as a butler, HE FREAKING NEVER DOES THE WORK. IT JUST EXISTS IN NAME. And half the time we see the heroine doing the actual work and him acting rude and condescending to her. And somehow they decide to enroll an uneducated kid into her prestigious high school?? It's also here we're randomly told the OG was apparently a pe*verted creepy kid 🤣 hilarious considering the irony.

Worse yet somehow the heroine is paranoid that he will get discriminated becuz of his korean name while everyone ie strangely gushing over him being too cool etc.

And somehow the whole school doesn't know she is rich af. There's contradictions like him helping everyone and next para saying he only helps the heroine.

Then there's the extremely weird atmosphere of the OG protagonist calling MC out to hang out randomly but the whole thing being strangely written like a date.

And then 6th chap MC randomly crashes into a heroine and she immediately begins falling for him for how cool he is.

This might have worked if the author put foreshadowing of explanations or made the MC a bit more likeable <<less

Honestly once you strip away all the fluff and garnish this story is just a run of the mill school harem story. The writing is okay and the characters are fine. There's nothing really much to say as its about as generic as it gets.

Usually I'd rate something like this as 3 stars. Even if it's not to my tastes, the novel serves as what it intend to be and I can't fault it for that. However, what I can't stand is how much the story wastes it's own hooks.... more>> The transmigration aspect of the plot serves absolutely no purpose and the "butler of a defeated heroine" from the title is an outright lie. The MC becomes the butler before the story even starts, not after the heroine is defeated. This might seem like a small nitpick, but it completely changes how the story unfolds. <<less
