Everyone in Ruyi Village had nothing to say about Bai Taotao except to envy, admire, and resent her:

— She was clearly a fool, yet she looked like a fairy!

— All the young men in the village adored her!

— She was spoiled by her family to the point she barely knew how to walk properly.

— Even a rich and handsome man who studied abroad insisted on marrying her!

But Bai Taoji herself was miserable—

She had been the esteemed Saintess of the Meizong Sect, only to fail her tribulation, get struck by lightning, and end up possessing the body of a fool?

This wretched place was spiritually barren and so poor it couldn’t even provide a proper meal!

Fortunately, her family pitied this clueless, barely articulate little fool and took great care of her, raising her into a delicate and fair beauty. However, their efforts attracted countless covetous eyes…

Just then, a tall and sturdy young man in a white shirt, carrying a heavy iron plow, passed by her.

Bai Taoji’s round, watery almond eyes widened—this man was brimming with spiritual energy and could cure her foolishness!

She ran up and tugged at the young man’s sleeve, taking a deep breath of his rich, fragrant spiritual aura. Then, in a sweet and trembling voice, she said, “B-blacksmith brother… so tasty!”

Song Zhi, the young man: ???

Clearly, this soft and sweet girl, as fresh and juicy as a ripe peach, looked far tastier!

Later on, the villagers grew even more jealous of Bai Taotao:

— She got smarter and even prettier!

— Everyone who tried to harm her ended up in miserable situations.

— Song Zhi became successful, and Bai Taotao’s entire family rose along with him.

— Twenty years later, Song Zhi became a household name as a renowned scientist and was even featured in textbooks as an outstanding figure.

— Forty years later, Song Zhi said on a television program, “I owe all my achievements to my wife. All the honors I have today belong to her.”

Rumor had it, according to villagers who went to visit, that every night Song Zhi would boil water for Bai Taotao’s foot baths. He not only carefully scrubbed her feet and dried them with a towel but also applied fragrant lotion by hand. Finally, he would select a bright, beautiful nail polish and patiently paint her toenails…

Male Lead’s Version:

Song Zhi never forgot—

When his teaching post was taken, forcing him to labor in the countryside, and when his chance to return to the city was stolen—

On the most hopeless night of his life, Bai Taotao searched for him in the rain with an umbrella, looking for him all night.

Soaked to the bone, pale-faced, and trembling as she cried, she asked, “Do you not want Taotao anymore?”

Song Zhi’s eyes reddened. Everyone had betrayed him, except this little fool, who never abandoned him.

Crawling out of the mud and into the clouds, he vowed to lead her to a life of admiration and success!

Song Zhi opened his notebook and wrote down his next steps:

Marry Bai Taotao and take care of her for the rest of his life!

Chase the dream of building a strong and prosperous nation—with Taotao by his side!

Love his country, love his family, love Taotao, love the people, and love his work.

Novel not recommended.

Writing is mediocre and even the beginning premise of Mc's struggling with her environment is swiftly tossed aside.

Edit: Novel is worse than imagined. Author spends over 5 chapters on the s*umbag family just being s*um and Mc's useless Bai family just standing around. Only one Bai guy does stuff and the story is all a horrible mess.

Problems to deal with:

Spoiler

#1: Evil rapist Chinese villager man Bai guy gets away with mol*sting women and r*pe etc and the Bai family is fine with this. Nobody stops him and he barely even has to apologize. Hate how almost every Chinese village in novels is equipped with rapist men, fodder useless women, and a whole ton of s*um men.

#2: MC is supposed to be slow and unable to interact with the world normally via the initial story premise? Well this lasts for barely two chapters, with the ML instantly appearing and MC magically cured by being near. Also MC is functioning just fine being slow and this never is a drawback. What a wasted concept, but worse the sheer inconsistency of this is equal to just giving the MC plot armor.

#3: Author thought the previous stuff wasn't enough so it turns out Mc's sister was a born again fodder seeking revenge. This Bai girl doesn't do much with her knowledge and instead is just angry at the other girl for being scum. Is this even a real world? Nope, just some badly written book world. ML instantly falls in love with Mary Sue beautiful MC.

#4: Mc's backstory is that she was a peach that ML Song guy let grow (He's the imperial majesty) and then she danced for him at his birthday and she got thundered by lightning. You already know where this is going.

#5: Conversations are written badly and author keeps adding in weird information that adds to nothing. Song guy mystifyingly knows about politics and so do Mc's relatives, there's stuff about village and family backgrounds, and already more pointless info about Yan fodder woman. You get these odd info dumps to hide how truly empty this world is.

There's a lot more issues, but within the first few chapters you can definitely see how it all adds up.

[collapse]

Novel is simply badly written and the story itself is weak. Besides the disgusting characters all we have to go on about the MC is that she's pretty and peachy. Little to no value here.

Edit: More worthless Chinese villager posturing and completely frustrating legal nonsense along with family court. Novel is absolute tr*sh.

-700tril/10 s*umbag Chinese villages are some of the absolute worst trope filled existences in writing and suck all the joy out of a novel. <<less

So I read the raws as well to find out why people are giving this such a low rating. The translator did a very good job.

The problem is... the story. Time goes slowly, lots of things happen... and yet nothing happens! Issues don't get dealt with, characters are silly and ineffective. They talk big but do nothing.

Basing on the chapters I have read, I think it's not that bad. It just need some improvement in some ways.

Like the dialogues, I feel like MC still being a fool, should at least stutter or have some difficulty in talking and talk with clarity little by little.

The pacing of the story, I mean even I would think it's unreasonable that after two chapters MC can talk straight.

Storyline and background of the characters, personally, I think MC's sister being 'reborn' isn't much but kind of give a spice to the... more>> story if only the author execute it effectively. Also, I think MC's origin (Being so-called peach spirit) would have been amazing if told better.

All in all, I think the author should improve their way of telling the story. It's not that it's bad but it should've written better. <<less

generally I would say its a very sweet, slow-placed type of novel. If you really like transmigration stories to the era from the 60s to 90s, it might be worth a try. it's really not the worst thing out there- I would say it's 3.5-3.8 stars.

I will say I appreciate the character growth I see for the minor antagonists/ cannon fodder.

Spoiler

For example, like Zhou Chunni or Bai Zhenzhu. Zhou Chunni was selfish, resentful and always envious of others. She had a sh*t show of a wedding and then reappeared in the second half of the novel. But now you see her doing her best to improve the lives of the villagers, work with her husband, and grow from being an illiterate woman to someone with a degree. she doesn't slide back into being a more annoying villain they have to deal with.

Bai Zhenzhu really f*cked up too... but after she got out of prison she really put a lot of work into earning money and taking care of her sisters and her nieces/nephews. she owns up to the mistakes she's done in the past and is genuinely working hard to better the lives of herself/her family even in the face of their poverty.

[collapse]

Of course, there are plenty of villains who don't get redemption arcs but in general it's nice to see it not so completely focused on face-slapping.

MC is a mary-sue... the author will never let you forget how beautiful and talented she is. she was some reincarnated fairy in her past life so she has spiritual powers which she used to do some pretty dubious things. I do admire her goals and the work that she dedicated herself too (wanting everyone in the country to be able to eat delicious foods), and it was really heartening to see the life-changing effects her work and research had on the country and the improvements it brought to the villagers around her. it's not just about her being pampered and spoiled- she had a goal to help other people. <<less
