Ten years after time traveling, Tao Sheng found out she was the real daughter of a rich family in the novel “A Life of Glory.” According to the plot, she was supposed to follow her biological father, Wenyuan Marquis Shen Yu, back to the mansion and fight with the fake daughter and real heroine, Shen Ruojin.

However, everyone in the mansion was distant and preferred Shen Ruojin. If Tao Sheng caused trouble for Shen Ruojin, she was blamed for it. Meanwhile, Tao Sheng had a warm and funny aunt and a handsome cousin who treated her well.

Tao Sheng quickly decided not to go back to the mansion and chose to stay with her aunt and cousin.

The Shen family couldn’t understand her choice. They thought their noble mansion was much better than living with her aunt and cousin. After all, her aunt was a widow, and her cousin Ji Yanming was still a student, unlike the well-educated Shen brothers.

They believed Tao Sheng would eventually regret her choice and beg to return. But things didn’t go as they expected.

Ji Yanming passed the imperial exams, becoming a high-ranking official. Tao Sheng, meanwhile, became a famous lady in the capital, excelling in the six arts and receiving great respect.

Now, the Shen family regretted not accepting Tao Sheng earlier. They even asked to add her name to their family tree, but she refused multiple times.

The story had a great start but somewhere during the middle of the novel it became less interesting. I have never seen a ML as passive as the one in this novel. To the point that everyone around the ML and FL are aware of his feelings but the FL is still clueless near the end of the novel. ML confessed his feelings everywhere except to the right person. So the romance is non-existent, it’s more like the development of friendship.

For you who seek romance from this novel... please don't because you would only get frustrated in the end.

Spoiler

MC and ML barely had any interaction throughout the story. They were both so busy, especially ML who often went to business trip that lasted for months or even years.

ML was also dilly dallying on confessing his feeling to MC because he wanted to make a greater achievement and also because the situation wasn't stable yet. This is where I got frustrated most when reading this story. I felt like ML strung MC along all those years. All those talks about a stable situation was bullsh*t. Unless ML didn't want to be official anymore, it wasn't possible to really have a peaceful life. Moreover, he closely served the emperor.

Maybe he was just too conceited and thought that there was no other better man than him around MC. And when there was really another better man? He began to panic but still didn't do anything noticeable to win MC's heart. I think that MC accepted ML a bit too easily.

[collapse]

Instead of romance, I think this story focused more MC and ML's career and also game of throne between the princes. <<less

A rather entertaining but very light read. It's not reinventing the wheel when it comes to transmigration and revenge against a fake but it does have its own kind of charm.

The MC is Tao Sheng, a woman who transmigrated into a novel where one child was replaced due to a maid who was terrible at her job. The MC is smart but her "golden finger" is really her musical talent. In addition to her skills from her past life, she was also taught by a high ranking scholar. Her skills... more>> are enough that people feel better after hearing her play. That being said, she lived a happy life with her adopted parents even before she knew she was in this particular novel.

The ML is Ji Yanming, the adopted cousin of the MC. He's the stereotypical cold-to-everyone-else ML. Initially, the MC knew him by a different name and didn't realize he was one of the main villains of the novel until they met again in the capital. Their romance is also pretty nonexistent in the first 2 thirds of the story.

We join the story as the MC has moved to the capital to live with her adopted aunt after her adopted parents die. Right from the beginning, she decides she has no interest in being a part of her biological family as she would just be the cannon fodder in the story. Her interactions with her bio family are pretty on par with what you would expect a noble family to act as they simply could not fathom why she would not want to return to the prestige of their house. Only the bio mom is worth something as she is genuinely happy that the MC was found. Especially since the fake daughter was raised by the grandmother so there was zero attachment.

Spoiler

Its also kind of nice that the MC's bio mom was still willing to accept the fake but the rest of the family didnt want to acknowledge the real daughter in the right way so she tried to make up for it to the MC.

Of course, the rest of the bio family goes right into the tr*shbin as they each begin to regret how they treated the MC only after their own interests become affected.

[collapse]

The MC does make a more passive approach in this but it's more like she focused on her own life and can't be bothered to care about her bio family. She climbs up from an orphan to become one of the Emperor's favorites which leads to other people dealing with her bio family and the fake for her.

The story is also very fast moving at times. The author seems to have focused on the parts they wanted to tell while regularly time jumping over the unimportant stuff. There are jumps of months and the story has quickly passed more than a year in the MC's life.

This is also one of the only stories where the MC has a bit of meta when she considers the intelligence level of characters that were said to be geniuses in the novel she read. And then she confirms it in a later chapter which made me cackle.

As I said above, this is a very light read. It's long but without anything troubling the MC for very long. While I did give it a 4 out of 5, I would only recommend it for an uncomplicated way to pass the time. <<less

A cliche mary sue FL novel~

Romance wasn't as smooth as butter but once they got together, they become the power couple envied by all.

Extras were so extra, I was surprised there were so many! The last extra was a nice touch, tho it becomes another short novel by itself~

It's not mind-blowing, but I did enjoy reading it. Have fun! 🌈🪸
