This is tag as “Slice of Life” for a reason and it fits the genre quite well so far.

If you are someone who love slice of life with a little bit fast pace plots and drama, I think this one won’t really satisfy the criteria. It is a slow and steady pace plot, no over-drama crisis and a really realistic plot.

As of ch145, I really enjoy with the plot and progress so far. It makes more sense and some people might think some of the plot is a bit dragging,... more>> but let me tell you guys the plot did not drag at all. As an Asian myself, the plot is reaaallllyyy close to our daily life (drama). Do give it a shot guys! <<less

This is really good for light reading. Not too much drama and I like how it is interesting every chapter without having too much conflict. The only thing baffled me at times is that MC meet so many women like her who needed to be divorced because of s*um man and I think it's also because of the setting wherein that time sons were more favored than daughters. I like the flow of the story and how all characters have substance.

This is the kind of novel that you never knew you needed until you read it. Highly recommended!

Reading this novel is very satisfying. The novel mainly focuses on the FL doing her business, developing her company, and building connections. The romance is a very minor subplot but the ML is very good. He is matured, protective and very understanding. Their children are literally all good protagonist materials. The bond of their small family is very strong and harmonious.

I quite liked the story. The premise is one that is hard to find on CN novels. She gets divorced and lots to start a business in order to support her family (though her divorce settlement could help them live somewhat comfortably if they budgeted well) and takes steps to her lose weight (ones that I don't support cause I have had a time where I didn't have enough to eat also I'm not sure skipping meals was the healthiest way to do it -maybe make a dietary plan and... more>> exercise)

a : though she's not looking for someone to date she does happen to fall in love and it's not the aggressive cold cool looking CEO (which honestly made me so happy) but a guy she got to know and progressively their feelings deepened, keeping in mind that both of them had hang ups to work through and the kids were also a consideration and not just thrown to the side.

I also enjoy the fact that she is her own person -i've noticed that in a lot of CN when the ML enters the stage everything about the MC gets inexcusably tied to whatever the MC is doing like she has a company ;can't be bigger than his, she is an actor, he's either a film emperor or CEO of an entertainment company. It's rather disheartening, especially when an ML interferes with the MCs work without telling them cause I usually wonder where is your professionalism ? I rather enjoy that they both have mutual respect for each other's work and that she didn't suddenly change into an indecisive, need constant protection MC

Finally, she has a social circle and friends (who aren't afraid of her husband or constantly telling her that the only good thing In her life is the man she's attached to) she's not a loner, she's not better than every single female in the world, like there are bad women but there are also good ones and the author does try to atleast make them as non 2D as she can which I appreciate very much.

Overall it's a story for those looking for a slice of life that isn't focused on romance but rather more of single working mom happens to fall in love and build a company

.

TL/DR:great story with flawed but awesome characters and an ok plotline

Also I rated it two stars by mistake and wanted to rate is 4 but I don't know how to change it <<less

i personally liked it, it's hard to find the genre really. It's not perfect but the beginning is very realistic and u really feel her pressure and pain. As the story progresses she gets unexpectedly rich but it's not unreasonable. Of course she met the right people but also because she took the right action. The novel is more about economic development than romance or childcare. Once again it's a career and money based plotline so prepared for exactly that! But, it isn't lacking in either of those too ... more>> (again very realistic romantic development and child raising) <<less

The story is good overall. Not the greatest story, by all means, but one I don’t regret reading.

What truly made me giggle was that the city she moved to had a staggering amount of divorcees. Like, staggering. Well, I’m exaggerating, of course, but there were quite a few that I can recall.

And although there are things that I could nitpick at, I’d rather not get into that or my review would turn into an essay. So 4/5 stars (unless I rethink the rating) and would recommend to casual readers for... more>> a good pastime book. <<less

Definitely one of my most favorite novel. It doesn't have the cliche plot lines like any other c-novel.

A solid story at the beginning and middle, with painful implications for women's rights in '90's China and uncomfortable relevance for Communism (it didn't matter how virtuous or smart or capable or hard working you were, if you didn't have the right connections to protect yourself and someone didn't like your face, your life would be ruined).

Unfortunately, I consider the Author dropped the ball in the last quarter, removing all supporting cast, the career and societal development part, and taking away MC's braincells.

There, it's just a speedrun of MC ... more>>

Novel felt actually quite short. Didn't go into things much and ended once the s*um husband who cheated on MC original body gets karma for his actions, and basically ends with some stories on how MC new family is doing.

Still best realistic novel of this romance type I've read

Note to remind myself why I've dropped this:

Spoiler

It was fine, it was just a bit boring. Didn't really care about any of the events, and the story was more about the events and didn't really go beyond shallow when it came to the the MC's thoughts and personality and feelings and relationships. No characters feel fleshed out, including the bland MC and her kids, and the events are mainly just stating all of the tedious steps she has to go through and I don't feel the delight and satisfaction that many SoL or business-starting stories have.

Like... it's fine, but for a while now reading it has just felt like I'm waiting for it to become interesting and worthwhile, but this far into the story it's obvious that, no, THIS is supposed to be the interesting and worthwhile stuff already...

Actual spoilers:

For example, she has to go to some place to purchase wholesale clothes and that's... well, OK, fairly dry, but OK. But then a day into her store being open she has to buy more stock and then the next day she has to get more stock and...I don't care. I get that is realistic, but it's boring.

For example, when she arrived in the city, the story reported the steps she took buying a house and organising its renovation. Then it reported the steps she took to find a temporary rental home.

And now... oh. Drama. A boring rival shop owner has managed to get her landlord to kick her out. So now, instead of progressing the plot, we're back to the bland reporting of her looking for a place to rent again.

4.2 ⭐

It was actually a good read but unfortunately the romance is just a subplot so I didn't feel any romance in the air while reading it especially since the author didn't elaborate the romance part at all.

The story has a complete ending, except that I still hoping for FL's ex husband to see the current FL.

The only reason why I gave this novel a 4 ⭐ was because I didn't feel any attachment to the story and plot. Not many emotion or expression while reading this "good"... more>> story. <<less

It has a good premise and idea. The characters are also attractive, but for God's sake, why should money lovers, friends, factory owners, ex-lovers, etc. Be so important to me that they are constantly emphasized? It got so annoying that I skipped those parts. Romantic and interesting events were lost in the pile of financial information. Focusing on business issues and how to grow MC business is good, but this level of attention is annoying. It took away half of my enjoyment of reading. Dear author, your careful attention to... more>> details is commendable, but please don't forget moderation in life 👐😃 <<less

Just felt like writing a review, but it's been a long time since I read this. Might be leaving things out, might accidentally mix things up.

Just writing and translation-wise, it was perfect no faults with reading this, unlike some other illegible translations. First, I really like the characters and I found the FMC to be really unique/fresh in her approach. She did do many things very well, but never felt like a "Mary Sue" type of character. She thought about what to do, made the right moves at the right... more>> time, and then succeeded. Rarely ever got lucky on getting out of the situation.

Every other character was very fleshed out as well. Nice people were nice.

The antagonists also were a plus in the story. No "evil just cause I'm a bully" or " What a twist! The innocent new girl is actually a terrible person". Everyone had their own goals and reasoning. And their way of achieving said goal was by takign advantage of FMC

I liked how the MLI (Male Love Interest) was not described as the perfect 188cm tall, muscular, rich, handsome, dude. (They still praised the dude, but like, he's not perfect)

I liked the business moments, the family moments, and the "comeuppance" moments. I call it "comeuppance" because the FMC rarely actually tries to get revenge/face-slapping. Besides the beginning part, she lives her own life to the fullest most of the time, and her former enemies just get what is coming to them in a natural way. Sometimes, she comes over there and gives some embarrassment, but most of the time, we get their POV of how they messed up, with the FMC not even remotely part of it.

It's been a while since I read this, so just based off of memory, I thought that FMC could've been more "practical" and less nice in the business scenes. It's a nitpick, but I find it irritating when the MC goes, "This business deal is supposed to be 50 million yuan, but how about you just pay for the dinner bill, and we'll call it even?". (Over-exaggeration, of course)

The romance bits also fell a little flat. When they happened, I was always waiting for the family moments to come back.

Yeah, It's good. <<less

I love the story. The story itself is very refreshing. Both MC and ML is normal people (rich normal) not they crazy ceo or beautiful / stunning people. Their relationship is realistic and like a normal loving couple. The story progresses through with some loving plot.

I understand why there's so many positive reviews on this book. This book is in my to read list for a long time because I hesitate to read it. I find the synopsis boring. But boy I was wrong😆

I feel empowered when I read this. I love what the author tries to portray to readers about women at that time and human should not tolerate being treated with no worth and respect. Familial doesn't mean sacrificing your value.

Overall I love it, the story was great.. Deserves 5 star. I like... more>> the MC and ML character. I like how the MC retaliates to people who have bad intentions towards her. Each got what they deserve.

I'm a happy reader. Thank u translator and author!! 😁 <<less

It’s a great slow burn slice of life type of novel. Love the FL, she is quite resourceful and smart! The ML is alright, the villains get their retribution but there is no melodrama or anything. All characters were interesting. Romance isn’t the focus it’s more centered on how women can realized themselves outside of getting married and having a kid in the 90s.

The story is really nice but the only problem is that each chapter is really short. I don't know whether the author decided to post such small chapter or the translator divided it into many small parts.

Other then this, the translator did a great job translating the novel.

Lately I'm addicted to this kind of reincarnation genre. And yes this novel have a fresh idea, making it worth for spend my whole 3 days and 2 night for marathon read. Shu yan, the protagonist sure have a smart and strong character. How she work so hard for her instan children sure is amazing. I highly recommend this novel for you who love the reincarnation genre but kind of bored of the mainstream plot. Can't wait for next update.
