Gu Xingyou transmigrated into a novel filled with deep, tragic love and a broken mirror being mended. He became the second male lead, who was first used by the drunken main character (seme) as a stand-in for his ex-boyfriend and later added fuel to the fire of the protagonists’ love, ultimately ending up wandering far away.

Gu Xingyou: Wandering far away is not an option; is it really that hard to be a laid-back person? Living one more day is one more day.

Later, he realized that he wasn’t even qualified to be a laid-back person; only by diligently protecting the main character’s (seme’s) life could he survive—and as he protected him, he gradually rose to the top.

When Gu Xingyou first met Ji Chen, he was cold and proud, like a hedgehog full of spikes. Only when Gu Xingyou truly got close to him did he discover that the hedgehog was a facade; inside, he was soft and sweet, making it impossible to resist.

Gu Xingyou × Ji Chen

It's a bit confusing in the summary, so just clarifying that this is a gong protagonist novel with a MC who ends up romancing the original gong protagonist of the novel he transmigrates into. The original novel plot is mildly dog blooded but barely comes up in this novel plot (ML's ex shows up for maybe 2 chapters), and there's a random system for all of one chapter before it never shows up again.

The story pacing could have been a bit better as the confession scene was pretty abrupt, but... more>> the romance was sweet and I liked how straightforward the both of them were in communicating with each other throughout their relationship. There's a few loose ends after finishing but it's an overall decent story, and short enough to binge read!

MC is a seemingly straight boy but he later says he's gay so I'm not sure what the truth is. Either way, he has no problem admitting to himself he likes the ML, so no gay crisis to be found here! I'm changing the tag from shounen ai to yaoi though because while it's mostly fade to black with euphemistic descriptions, it's pretty clear what they're up to lol

Also the college setting basically doesn't matter, I really can't even remember what the two of them were studying, if they even ever went to class? All they do is play video games and basketball and then vaguely study haha, just typical slice of life nonsense. <<less

This just ended up being a cute college campus love story. Most of it is pretty slice of life ish and the system doesn’t do much except to force the MC to pay attention to the ML more than he would’ve liked. The two make a cute couple. It’s probably a 4/5 story but I gave it a 5 to boost ratings. The synopsis is confusing but it’s a decent read overall and not that hard to follow.

It's pretty good, soft and sweet. Like the other reviews say there are some loose ends here and there but the novel is more about their relationship and its pretty sweet. I like it

Refreshing, with good romantic tension and pacing. Misunderstandings or conflict isn't drawn out unnecessarily, and it really keeps their relationship in the forefront. Any melodramatic plot devices show up, have their intended effect, and then dip without overstaying their welcome. The angst is good enough to make you feel it, but not to the point you're sick of it.

The way ML's first confession occurred had me absolutely losing my MIND! I was so invested!!! And the outcome too like f*ck my poor heart

[collapse]

The characters are also fun and feel like real people! I especially love how fun and flirty both the leads are, and the fact that their s*x life has a little bit of spice that def adds to the fun and their depth as characters. The ML is a little bit of a shou w/ no other social life outside his bf and their mutual friends but tbh given that it's a CBL I'm giving it grace. Would reread.

Spoiler

like the end bit where it's briefly mentioned that MC has a thing for uniforms and ML likes being blindfolded and using mirrors, or the little sister-in-law/wife play they did is such a fun detail and really makes me smile.

It's a very cute story with some intense moments but I do have to point out how weirdly coquettish the shou ML is at times. The narration said he had a 'soft center' but sometimes it was a bit much.

Secondly, it sucks that the ML has zero friends and is utterly reliant on MC. Despite the set up of being the protagonist of this world, he barely has any connections with it. The outsider MC is the one with the actual loyal friend, the one who gets along with the... more>> roommate buddies, college acquaintances, the one pursued by a girl for multiple chapters and even the family drama is all his. If there was an active moment of the protagonist being switched to MC it would've been way more interesting but it wasn't. The sentient book never contacts MC again and the plot of being 'forced' doesn't come up after the initial scare. It doesn't make sense either that the MC was threatened to follow the plot while the world was actively gaining independence from the plot. The ML genuinely feels like he exists to be the love interest instead of a protagonist of his own story. We don't even get involved with his family issues or his backstory pain despite being a major part of his character setup. Anything involving him is either solved in 1-2 chapters or a paragraph. While the MC gets everything and the OG protag just whines and gets jealous and tries to get his attention. <<less

Gosh! I really loved this novel. You can literally feel butterflies in your stomach during the confession scenes and the way they express their love for each other. At some parts, I felt hurt and sad for Ji Chen when Gu Xingyou firmly rejected him just to avoid the plot. But after that, everything was just too sweet. They truly loved each other so dearly. And it’s kind of cute that Ji Chen was supposed to be the gong, not the shou.

It's a very sweet novel. Please read it if you like fluff and slice of life and a lot of dog food. Both the characters are nice and interesting. The ML does become very shou like after they get together, but it makes sense for his character.

Excellent love story and translation!

It's slow burning but it was very entertaining. The only thing I didn't like is the lack of (deep) drama. I mean, there are dramas and setbacks but the development is kinda shallow or too sudden; so there's no felling of distress.

However, if you like peaceful love stories, this is it!! They're love-dovey even when they were only friends 😂 when they got officially together... They're too sweet! ♡⸜ (˶˃ ᵕ ˂˶) ⸝♡ I really like their interactions!

Anyways, I 100% recommend it! It's a good read!!

Very cute and well paced short story about two characters that didn’t like building relational ties but somehow became very fond of each other.

ML life was very sad particularly once you realize he always felt controlled by something but didn’t know what. He felt as if his life wasn’t his own until he met MC. I’m glad MC didn’t try to follow the storyline and was brave enough to do what he felt was right. It helped them both overcome a psycho author that didn’t value human emotions.

The last few... more>> chapters and the extras were well done. At first, I thought it was unnecessary but it closed all loose ends for the readers and allowed us to see how they will continue to be happy for years to come. They were really sweet and spicy with each other 😂 <<less

Short and sweet. At first I thought that it would be rather angsty with the ex bf returning back to the country but it wasnt all that bad especially since the ML Ji Chen was quite firm in his decision. Overall the angst wasnt too much since communication was a huge part of this novel. They might drag a few days but they always talk things out to resolve issues. Also, the MC is super doting. He started out avoiding the ML because he thought that he should avoid him... more>> to avoid the ending he had seen in his dream but quickly found out that avoiding is not the solution. Their relationship progressed slowly and steadily, making it sweeter than ever.

But I did find the plot with Zhou Ci a little out of place. Maybe cause it didnt feel very completed? He only appeared occassionally even though he should have been a 'huge' part of this novel. And the ending for him was rather abrupt? Like after the ex left, he just didnt appear in the novel anymore. I feel like based on his character, he would have done more and taken drastic measures but that didnt happen. Not that I dont like the smooth journey of the MC and ML's relationship but it just didnt make as much sense when Zhou Ci's character is that way. But still, not too bad since I came here for the fluff.

Overall, if you are looking for a fluffy and liw angst novel, this is it for you. Highly recommended because the MC is super doting and the ML is also very devoted. <<less

I would definitely suggest reading this book if you're looking for a low angst, slice of life romance novel. There were climactic, hair-raising moments, but for the most part it was a nice, easy read.

I liked Gu Xingyou (GX) because he was very practical about his situation. He transmigrated into a novel, but didn't want to participate in the storyline. He really just wanted to live his life away from the ML and avoid any issues or tragedies. Too bad for him, the "forces" that pulled him into the novel,... more>> wouldn't allow him to remain a passerby. If he avoided certain parts of the novel or didn't assist the ML, Ji Chen (JC), then he would be punished. These "forces" stopped being a factor when GX decided to become closer to JC. Inevitably, JC, who was a loner, dealing with his mother's passing and being neglected by his father, quickly started to develop an attachment to GX. His attachment turned into a crush and eventually, he was full-on pursuing GX. JC had a very... unorthodox way of confessing. It was bold for someone like him, an introvert. Honestly, GX had no chance against JC and when he let himself fall for JC, the rest of the novel was for the most part full of sweetness. GX was a strong, dependable person, so when JC was around him, he became so soft and clingy. It was adorable.

It was good to see a HEALTHY, long-lasting relationship. <<less
