Transmigrated into a Supporting Character in Ancient Times

Yang Haiyan transmigrated into a character who was a mere foil to the female lead in an ancient setting.

In the novel’s plot, both women were sold into the same household to work as maids:

The original character was the head maid—beautiful, skilled in embroidery, and literate. When the family fell on hard times, she was ordered by an imperial decree to marry Qin Fang, a centurion in the border army.

The female lead, on the other hand, was a lowly servant—plain-looking, unskilled in embroidery, and illiterate. When the family also fell on hard times, she, too, was given an imperial decree to marry the male lead, Han Zhen, another centurion in the border army.

The original character, thinking she was superior, constantly compared herself to the female lead. However, the female lead followed the male lead and rose to become the wife of a general. Meanwhile, the original character sabotaged Qin Fang’s career and ended up as a mere comparison in the family courtyard, forever living in the female lead’s shadow.

After transmigrating into the book:

Yang Haiyan looked at the tall, long-limbed man before her and thought to herself, “He’s just my type.”

Qin Fang, looking at the frail woman who couldn’t even lift a bucket of water, thought to himself, “I only earn 1 tael of silver and 30 pounds of grain per month. That’s barely enough for me to eat, and now I have a wife to feed, too? Life is tough.”

A male lead full of inner drama vs. a wise, laid-back female lead.

It is a good novel however, it is a bit boring that I can't persevere towards the end. Some plots felt forced fo me. It seems like the author like the FL to shine but I can't aprreciate the delivery. I crave for more excitement. There are areas wherein I a bit disappointed.

Maybe I'll revisit this novel again and try to read completly in the future.

It is a slice-of-life but for a modern woman she seems quite misogynistic. She also never fails in any venture and is usually the highest ranking in each scenario. Nothing is realistic. How can relocating thousands of people and relying on remote, poor areas for food work out? Where is this food coming from even if you have money?

Spoiler

The whole portrayal of kidnapped and sexually ab*sed women was tasteless. After being free, these “unclean” women’s first thought is to seduce the male lead? The solution to prevent further seduction is to let them live in a faraway area so they can’t be close to the county or something? What will these women do to survive? Some sympathy would be nice. Perhaps it gets better but I’ve had enough.

I kept trying to read this and just had to give up. The only thing in this story that isn’t bland is the food that the MC cooks.

The setup for the story, with MC as a former servant/s*ave and her husband as a leader in an ancient army, could have done a lot of interesting things that you don’t get with the similar “marrying an army dude in the 60s/70s and living in the family compound” stories... but no, it’s less interesting than those. The characters have no personality. MC... more>> has no imperfections. Making money is s*upidly easy. There’s no conflict between her modern views and the ancient setting.

There are so many other stories in this genre that I’d recommend reading this one only if you’re interested in what the MC (and the author) has to say about healthy food. Because the MC’s background was running a weight-loss clinic which *checks notes* enables her to live effortlessly in ancient times. <<less

Not sure if there’s a word count the author needs to hit but so far it reads more as a cooking novel with thorough money breakdowns and nutrition information.

I think this is more a novel for those who like to read about cooking and food. It’s a piece one reads to pass the time. Not mentally stimulating nor thought provoking. But an easy read to relax.

This is a charming and innovative take on the transmigration genre, offering a refreshing focus on a supporting female character who uses her modern knowledge to carve out a stable and fulfilling life in an ancient setting. The story masterfully blends elements of domestic life, political intrigue, and personal resilience, creating a narrative that is both engaging and heartwarming.

The protagonist's resourcefulness and determination to protect her family and thrive in a challenging environment are central to the story's appeal. Themes of loyalty, family bonds, and personal growth are woven seamlessly... more>> into the narrative, offering moments of quiet reflection amid the protagonist's triumphs.

While the pacing is steady and the conflicts are resolved with a satisfying sense of competence, some readers may find the plot lacking in suspense or deeper emotional stakes. The protagonist's nearly flawless navigation of her challenges can, at times, make the story feel overly idealized. However, for fans of slice-of-life storytelling and historical transmigration, this tale delivers a delightful mix of ingenuity, warmth, and understated charm.

Overall, it's a satisfying, low-stress read for fans of slice-of-life and historical transmigration genres. <<less

A good read. Highly recommended. Nice, smooth slice of life story - no complicated dog blood story, no brainless villains. It’s the most realistic transmigrated MC I’ve read so far. She transmigrated from the 21st century where she had a good life, thus did not have an extreme personality. She’s a regular person with the usual wants, needs, sympathies, understanding, and even selfishness. She’s a good decent person.

All the characters were likable and the CP was cute and fluffy. I like how the author stayed true to the character settings... more>> for the ML and FL — they just wanted a simple and smooth life and knew when to retreat to keep that lifestyle. <<less

It is a nice cutey fluffy read. There are no villains to say and even the emperor is a pretty chill, as far as emperors go. It has a HEA, and isnt too long or complicated. If you're look for a easy slice of life then this is pretty good.
