【HE1v1 ‖ Dual Female Leads + Book Transmigration + Mind Reading + Flirty Banter + Slightly Crazy + Sweet and Adorable】

Possessive and World-Weary Beauty (Top) x Soft and Spoiled Young Lady (Bottom)

I transmigrated as the villainess in a novel who repeatedly harms the female lead out of unrequited love for the male lead, only to end up with her family destroyed and her life ruined? Upon hearing this news, Tang Yuan felt as if the world had gone dark.

Tao Yuan, trembling with fear, watched as her own hands gripped Jiang Zi’s neck and pinned her down in the water, paralyzed with horror.

She vaguely remembered the original’s domineering words, “Didn’t I tell you to stay away from the Chu Yu? Can’t you understand?”

Instinctively loosening her grip and stepping back, she looked up to meet Jiang Zi’s calm, pitch-black eyes. In a moment of heated impulse, she blurted out, “You only have Chu Yu in your eyes. When will you ever look at me!”

Jiang Zi watched as the idiot who had just tried to kill her turned into a soft-shelled shrimp(quivering mess) in the next moment, her gaze clouded and fluctuating.

——

Tang Yuan’s sudden change had Jiang Zi eavesdrop on her inner voice daily, repeatedly confirming her true feelings.

“Sister, that Chu Yu is a scoundrel! Don’t play with him. Play with me~”

“Sister is so beautiful and alluring, If only you were mine, sob sob sob.”

“Sister your hands can touch games, but why won’t you touch me?”

Jiang Zi cornered her at the computer desk, her white jade-like skin flashing momentarily under the lens. One delicate hand wrapped possessively around her slender waist, while she turned off the computer with a deft motion… From beginning to end, the person she loved had never changed.

CW/TW: self harm depiction (not explicit, more implied), some characters with yandere tendencies and dub-con moments

This is my personal opinion/review, so feel free to disagree but I must confess that I'm not really a fan of the love story depicted in the novel. I do love their take on the transmigration aspect though.

As for the romance... something about their relationship screams codependency and rather unethical, ... more>>
Spoiler

aside for the mind reading thing, there's also almost an element of emotional manipulation (sort of) and sometimes I feel like Jiang Zi pressures Tang Yuan during some of their intimate encounters which is :/

. Again, personal opinion. They have their sweet moments and I know some people will enjoy their dynamic, it's just not my cup of tea unfortunately.

However, I adore the author's take of transmigration genre instead of using it just as a convenient plot device that's thrown aside with no conclusion. I think it ties and wraps the story up in a bow perfectly and make me feel more sympathetic towards both Tang Yuan and Jiang Zi.

There is no extras, but I think their sweet moments have been sprinkled plenty throughout the story and doesn't need too many additional condiments (if you enjoy the story and would like more extras, my apologies, I'm just biased).

Oh another thing I just remember. In this world, little to no h*mophobia exists (yay!) althought BG is still the preferred setup, no one really bats an eye on same s*x pairing. As I'm writing this it got me thinking of why did the author bring back the stunt person in the variety show and showed some hints of yuri but we never get to see her again. And another thing why is
Spoiler

Jiang Zi a judge for a dance competition when she barely has any experience in the field? Like wow, I can take mind reading and transmigration but be more realistic here.

This is a Yuri web novel that incorporates elements of a quick transmigration background (though it is not a quick transmigration novel). By that, I mean the MC has travelled through different worlds in the past, but this story focuses solely on the world she's currently in.

The plot begins with the MC transmigrating into a novel right in the middle of strangling the OGFL. Her mission is to conquer the OGML, but things take an unexpected turn when she suddenly blurts out, "I just don't like how your eyes are... more>> always on Chu Yu! What's so great about him? You only have Chu Yu in your eyes. When will you ever look at me?" And just like that, the OGFL becomes her conquest target instead.

Now, about their relationship: the love interest (aka OGFL) hasn't done anything too extreme yet (although she's a yandere), so when I say their relationship is cute, I'm not overlooking any red flags. So far, it is cute. Their dynamic is particularly charming, thanks in part to the MC's outward shyness paired with her inward boldness. On the surface, she's a blushing mess, but her internal thoughts are daring and confident. Meanwhile, the love interest is like a wolf in sheep's clothing—a wild and intense personality hidden under a calm and restrained facade.

When I picked this up, I didn't expect much—I wasn't sure if it would be good or if I'd even enjoy it. But I was pleasantly surprised. It's safe to say the story is genuinely good, and I've been thoroughly enjoying it. I got so immersed while reading that I didn't even realise I'd reached chapter 40 until I stopped. I was hooked, wanting to know what would happen next. I even found myself talking to the characters (don't judge me!). It's not as crazy as it sounds—I just tend to comment when I get really into a story and find the characters compelling. For example, I might say, "You don't need to worry, she already likes you, " or "You're so screwed." I don't expect a response, but you get the point.

Now, let's talk about the characters. I've never been in love, so I can't say I relate to the love interest's perspective. She's a Yandere so I wouldn't be able to relate anyway, But I do think her worries and feelings (not just her romantic ones) are realistic and make sense. As for the MC, her thoughts and feelings are also believable. She sees the love interest as just another target to conquer, like in a game. Having travelled through world after world, completing missions only to die tragic deaths, it makes sense that she's become numb to the process and just goes through the motions without overthinking it.

All in all, I'd rate this a solid 4/5. <<less

The premise lured me in, a character reading inner thoughts is a prominent plot device that I like in fanfics, but it's never executed to my tastes.

Here it is though! It's executed perfectly, adding depth to the angst and fluffiness in equal measure.

I especially want to praise the characterization of this book. The characters' motives are explained perfectly, making them stand out as actual human beings, not cutouts.

Finally, I read someone saying the plot can be confusing at times. This is because the author doesn't info-dump on us. Personally I... more>> appreciated this a lot, too. I prefer stories starting in medias res, then finding out the nooks and crannies of the world bit by bit. The pace was right up my alley.

All in all, sometimes the writing style is a bit childish, granted. The book is not equal in quality to Clear and Muddy Loss of Love, or the Princess and the General, or She is the Protagonist, but it's not far behind in quality either.

In conclusion, even though this isn't a literary masterpiece it does a few things and it does them well, earning full praise from me. 5/5! <<less

I've never loved a Yuri as much as I love this one. I'm so glad that even though I was a bit reluctant to read it at first. That I still needed up reading it.

I love the Tang Yuan, she may be a bit slow at time and has princess syndrome, but it was overly to the top

I love Jian Zi, she can get a little possessive (not a fan of possessiveness), and easily jealous. But I love how she express her feelings (minus a few incidents)

I like Tang... more>> Gu, his personality. Can't say love since we barely interacted with him and Tang Su also

I like the pace of the story it wasn't overly fast or painfully slow. The informations were given to us in timely mattered instead of info dumping. Questions were answered. There was any plot holes really.

Props to the translator. The only thing I would chnage is sister to JieJie/Jie. Ik it means sister it was a little weird for me since all I have are sisters.

Hate the Ml, his character is disgusting and cruel, him and his lackeys ugh.

The only thing that really irked me was how the second couple was inserted into the story. In my personal opinion it was that smooth. But oh well. Still a 5/5 in my book <<less

9/10 (Top tier but missing a certain final spark)

Primarily, this novel focuses on the relationship and mysteries surrounding the female leads. In fact, in several ways it could almost be said that it does so at the expense of other elements like side characters and worldbuilding. Luckily, it accomplishes what it set out to do well enough to compensate. The main couple has quite a bit of chemistry, and while many of the mysteries were hardly notably novel, the setup and payoffs were written well enough that it was... more>> enjoyable regardless. That's not to say things were done perfectly, but overall it's a solid read.

Spoiler

The chemistry between the female leads is very present and ties in very well with the mysteries surrounding their circumstances. The progression and hitches in the evolving relationship between the two very much rely on their slowly exposed backstories, and overall felt believably meshed. The reveals and foreshadowing, while definitely not the most subtle, are well paced and pull some fun tricks. The progression of the cultivation reveal, for example, was enjoyable; starting with the show, hinting then revealing the idea that the show corresponds to something real in different ways from each female lead's perspective, then following up by giving the full story through a "what-if" scenario written in-story by Jiang Zi and revealing that rather than the original backstory, it was just one part of a greater whole, and at the same time peppering in how their past experiences affect how Jiang Zi and Tang Yuan think and act in the present time.

However, some aspects could've been further explored. In terms of worldbuilding, considering how much the system is involved, it wouldn't have been amiss to delve a bit more into how the system functions and similar bigger picture details. It could be argued these would be unnecessary details that distract from the actual plot, but noteworthily, Tang Yuan is said to have wanted to make their entire world independant rather than just Jiang Zi and herself, which seems to suggest that Tang Yuan cares about the bigger picture and the overall morality to some extent.

An aspect where I think catharsis is missing rather than just potential, however, is that Jiang Zi's self-destructive thoughts and Tang Yuan's past trauma from her short lives in the past 10 worlds could have used a bit more of a conclusive moment. As is, these just kind of just fade away as the relationship progresses, which makes it feel as if the setup is somewhat unresolved.

Several other plot points revolving around side characters also seem to feel like they got unnecessary setup that never resolved. For example, it really felt like the stunt double Tang Yuan took notice of during filming and the characters in Chu Yu's company's talent show were introduced only to do nothing. While Meng Yao'er and Su Qingyao actually did get an arc and payoff for their setup, the issue still remains - the arc felt kind of short and didn't give enough catharsis to pay off how much setup Meng Yao'er got and how front and center their relationship became for some chapters. When considering the themes of freedom and rebelling against the rules of the world, it would have helped solidify these themes if we got a bit more focus on characters who haven't managed to awaken their self-awareness being oppressed by the rules.

Another reason the themes don't come across as strongly as they could have was how smoothly the main mission went. Chu Ying ended up folding like a house of cards; really the only thing he actually did was make the CP mission slightly more annoying to complete. It was implied pretty hard that he would take more direct methods to deal with Tang Yuan at some point, which matches with his underworld boss persona, but nothing ever came of it. The fact that Lin Xiuyu, the final member of the gang of four, simply folded along with Chu Ying with no other interaction showcases this pretty strongly.

[collapse]

Ultimately however, the underutilized aspects don't significantly take away from the success of the core of the story. It's pretty clear what was really focused on were the two female leads, and they were largely done successfully. <<less

Loved it! So cute (^○^) lots of fluff, no suffering. Even though Tang Yuan transmigrates into this world while she was choking Jiang Zi (while shooting a scene), Jiang Zi doesn't really hate her unlike other novels where the protagonists have a love-hate relationship.

Since Jiang Zi can read her mind from the start of the transmigration (the novel summary says she eavesdrops but she can't really control whether to hear or not), she tends to feel hurt due to the missions but Tang Yuan quickly notices and makes her forget... more>> about it, so there's no heartache or big conflicts like other novels.

One thing I didn't really like was around the last 10 chapters, how some parts were rushed, for example

Spoiler

When Tang Yuan "reveals" that she is a transmigrator and Jiang Zi confesses she can read her mind. Idk, maybe I'm used to seeing grand reveals in other novels. It felt off/rushed ever since that junior from Tang Yuan's university said she was a fan of them ever since. Obviously, her saying that makes them uncover that they are in their original world and were given tasks to help them set free of the story. But there could've been a better way. It felt as if I skipped a paragraph or something.
