i had lots of hopes for this webnovel because its been in my to-reads for a while but not on goodreads so I just waited. The plot is very interesting and ive always liked MCs that don't care if they die and they're just chaotic. Its fun to read. Wen chi was a fine character. He cries alot and is pretty obedient but he also is powerful and has some backbone. Its honestly a love him or hate him kind of personality. Shi ye is the classic cold, and intimidating.... more>> I enjoyed their dynamic and it was cute the way sy softens up for wc. Wc being a chaotic character also made their relationship fun cause he constantly tests sy's patience. Sometimes thought there were plot holes, or it just wasn't explained enough that I understood it. I'm not sure if it was the translator or the author themselves though. Speaking of translations, it was translated well but they would always split chapters in 2, sometimes even 6 which makes the chapters seem unbearingly long and tiring. Around the 110s the story drags A LOT. I love slow burn but 110/150 and they still are skirting around eo? It was very annoying. I also didn't like the two year time skip and the trope "they knew each other when they were little". It wasn't exactly that trope but still, its not my thing. The transmigration thing almost never shows up, it didn't seem like a necessary thing. Honestly I didn't finish this, I had about 35 chapters left but with the way it was dragging on, I couldn't bring myself to finish it especially because it seemed like they were together at that point. But it was still enjoyable and cute. <<less

It’s fine. I didn’t come into reading this wanting to get really immersed, so I skipped annoying chapters and didn’t think too deeply about anything. The reason i’m rating it a 3 and not a 2 is because I don’t think it was actively bad - the relationship once real is cute, there’s no ab*se of servants, no aggressive sexism, the writing is good even if the plot is messy.

This isn't a bad story at all. While I don't think it deserves a 5, I also don't think it deserves a 3.8.

MC is naive and slightly dumb at times, which is fitting given the fact that he's from modern times. It's good, though, that he's actually self-aware and knows that he'd probably die instantly in a harem fight. But he's also pretty clever sometimes, and it seems like he just talks himself down a lot. He also has a flippant personality, so he switches from being really, really scared... more>> to relaxed in an instant. I don't find it OOC--it's just his own entertaining personality.

What I don't get is the idea that "ML needs a reason to love MC." It's honestly so ridiculous. Love is not a logical thing--it is an emotion. Love is not something someone can just control and turn on and off when they want to. The idea that someone needs a justifiable reason to love someone is inherently unreasonable. I'm pretty sure that if logical reasoning could control whether or not you love someone, people sticking with abusive spouses would lessen a lot, too. Like, damn bro, who are you to decide that "there is no reason for ML to like MC?" Are you the ML himself? <<less

Bro this is such a rollercoaster.

Been reading it for 12 hours straight without a break since finding it. I just cannot put it down yet. And even tho the ML is craycray, it just makes the emotional moments that much sweeter. Even though bad things are happening to the MC, yk he's gonna get out of it, just curious to see what happens if (/when) he doesn't.

Still so good. Man I've been craving a novel as captivating as this. Kinda disappointed that the physical scene got skipped over. The first time was okay, but the second time it felt like a chunk was just missing from the chapter. It doesn't have to be explicit, but describing the emotional state of the characters during would have been enough. It felt a bit chopped. But I'm still hooked to the story.

I cannot believe how good this writing is. Like I've said earlier, there's always something happening. And the character development??? Both the MC and ML develops so nicely, and it's not sudden at all! You really feel the small shifts as you read. I would classify this as enemies to lovers, and maybe more towards shounen ai rather than yaoi. I still can't put this novel down (only because had to sleep and passed out). This is seriously the best thing I've read since ORV.

Wooooow just wow. This is the one. I've only been reading this the last four days (had to take breaks to sleep), and I've been so obsessed. The writing keeps you on your toes the entire time. I'm not the biggest fan of flashbacks, but the two chapters in this novel was nice. Even though some characters disappeared throughout the story, I didn't really miss them or could figure out why they didn't reappear anymore. The romance and action is well balanced and nothing is really missing on that end. If you like enemies to lovers, mystery, romance, a tiny lil bit of gore then this is it. I usually like yaoi novels with some smut or explicit content (kinda why I picked up this), but this story really surprised me. The ending was good as well. <<less

The problem with this novel is it has too many plot devices that don't mesh well so the plot feels disjointed. The mood of the novel changes a lot from section to section. The main conflict feels contrived then is easily solved. The romance isn't very convincing either. I didn't enjoy the writing or the characters.

The only positive aspect is a main character who is realistic in his behaviour as a scared modern-day person who found himself in a dangerous new world. Yet, there are other novels with the same... more>> theme that are better written. Save yourself the time and avoid this one. <<less

Honestly the MC drove me crazy throughout the whole story. He never listened and was very immature. While I liked the story there were parts that just drove me crazy to where I wanted to stop reading after it a few times. Also what kind of parent just jealous of their newborn baby?

its a short story, I give it a 4star to round it up. There’s actually not much political struggle that usually comes with royalties stories, but it’s has alot of mystery and twist though. But mostly alot of interaction between MC and ml. MC was quite cute, lol sometimes with his act you can’t help to feel sorry for him as he was “ bullied “ by ml. I was looking to read something like this and although it's not amazing, it was good enough to pass the time.

MC is cowardly and goes with the flow, but at the same time, he does do what he can with the resources that he has (eg. experiment on making cakes, take initiative to study locust issues). Unlike other transmigrators, he doesn't go out of his way to make a huge effort, his goal being to live a lazy life, but it wasn't excessively annoying and he didn't depend on the... more>> ML for everything (which is a huge PLUS).

The pacing wasn't great, there were several time skips that didn't really make the storyline tighter or the tension better, but at the same time, I wasn't too put off by it. It's better than authors that write a romance spanning a month for sure.

There's also a mystery and a twist, although the twist was very predictable, it was still enjoyable to see the ending.

Finally, it's weird but I like that the MC and ML's love wasn't just expressed in like constant confessions; MC and ML both spoke more through their actions. It's a slow-ish burn and ML is a tsundere.

Some other novels I've read in the ancient setting were definitely more exciting but this one is good enough.

Translation was alright. A couple weird spots but overall it's much harder to translate ancient novels, so the effort is appreciated. <<less

First off, translator did an excellent job when they translated this story. That being said, I did not like this novel at all.

MC is a coward, and remains one for the majority of the novel. This was a big turnoff for me, which caused me to not really like the novel all that much, which is the primary reason I am not going to rate it.

This is one of those books that I can’t rate. One side, reading this is a very torturous time for me yet I can’t stop myself to finish this. (I’ve finished this in 3 days due to work and other stuffs).

There are also some chapters that I love, that I will definitely go back rereading it.

Like the chapter titled Patience. I love how ML shows how he’s so patience with MC during the pregnancy time. Contrast to his subordinate, whom I still feel annoyed.

However, let’s be honest that their relationship is toxic. ML is too powerful, the power imbalance at the beginning is too wide. It gets bit better somehow because it seems like I kinda miss a link on how the super tyrant ML at the first part suddenly changed into your typical CEO Black Belly type. Like, man the first part, ML almost wanted to kill MC many times.

When I get to the ending and rewind what I’ve read from the beginning, it’s like there’s lacking of something which is why I’m going to put this as unrated.

I’ll say that there are lots of dog blood and tiny fluffy moment time. Anyway, if you can’t enjoy the power imbalance and how cruel ML could be then I’m not suggesting this one. But alas, if you must, it will be one hell of a ride

4.0 it's not that bad yoo, 3.9 is too little, but I would say that if u don't like long misunderstanding is better just don't read it, but if u ok with it, this novel had plus poin bcs 1vs1 without annoying 2-3 mls, our MC and ML is not something op, although MC background is just like a wind and doesn't give any contribution the development except being transmigrator that read novel, their interaction is like a hide and seek although we can find lil sweet in it, the... more>> harem live is not the center is more like ML way to be Emperor bcs previous Emperor and his clan scheme, actually there's no incredible thing they made, it just feel ordinary that's why they more than 3.9 and can't be more than 4.0 for me <<less
