In the book “The Imperial Conquest”, the male protagonist Huo Yan was born into a family of generals. Due to the corruption of the imperial court, his family perished and he became a s*ave in the Prince of Qing’s Mansion.

The Prince of Qing’s heir apparent* was cruel and domineering. Huo Yan suffered humiliation and ab*se for several years, including several times where he was seriously injured and almost died.

This lasted until troubled times came. He escaped from the prince’s mansion, step by step took control of military power and dominated the world.

After ascending the throne, he had the Prince of Qing’s heir apparent torn into pieces by five horses*.

Lou Yu had the bad luck to transmigrate as the Prince of Qing’s heir apparent who had a miserable end.

In order to save his little life, he decided to…

Store up food, build high walls, and slowly proclaim himself king*.

Grow crops, carry out construction, expand trade routes, raise troops, and open up a way to survive in troubled times.

Gradually, he discovered that the male protagonist’s eyes were becoming more and more wrong.

One day, the enemy invaded. The male protagonist, clothed in armor, holding a sharp sword with handsome features, appeared like a god of war.

After repelling the enemy, he came to ask for his reward.

There were thousands of things in this world, but he only wished to be with his lord day and night.

White cut black* shou/bottom VS loyal dog gong/top.

Reading Guide: This is a fictional novel, mainly based on the author’s setting. It has infrastructure elements and is slow to develop in the early stages.

***

T/N: The title uses 男频 (nan pin) – male channel/frequency. In novels, this refers to novels that are targeted toward male readers/that men like to read. The female equivalent is 女频 (nu pin). Think of it as similar to shounen and shoujo in manga genres.

*世子 (shizi) – heir to a noble title. I’m translating this as heir apparent. Please see Chapter 1 for a more detailed explanation.

*五马分尸 (wu ma fen shi) – literally torn into pieces/dismemberment by five horses. A gruesome method of death in ancient days where one’s four limbs and head were attached to horses by ropes and the body torn apart by the force of the horses running.

*称王 (cheng wang) – proclaim oneself king. An official step in becoming Emperor/ruling the world.

*白切黑 (bai qie hei) – white cut black. A term to describe someone who is seemingly pure and harmless, but is actually scheming.

Without giving any spoilers, I can say that the MC will flourish in this story. For MC I can't say for sure there was much character growth since I had a MTL, but many side characters definitely has character growth. MC doesn't ever fail really, he makes plans and for the most part they never go wrong, or even if they do, he has a failsafe. The only truly unbelievable aspect for me for his character was ... more>>

his knowledge base and abilities. To know so many things, in the medical, agricultural, and chemistry field, but having been a rich second-generation young master who had no ambitions in his original world...? Isn't that too much? The author did their best to play it cool though, claiming his knowledge base in certain aspects were only shallow and he would just direct the ancient citizens in the right direction. Oh well, it drove the plot along so whatever.

The ML did have a little character growth but that was really only at the beginning. After that he settled into his character for the rest of the story-

We also got to see more perspectives from the lives of said side characters. There are a lot of side characters so keeping track of who is who may get confusing.

The ending was a little rushed for me but that may be due to the time skips.

The romance takes a while to appear, largely due to the ages of the MC and ML at the beginning of the novel. But since I was reading this more for the infrastructure plot it didn't bother me too much.

Lou Yu may be seen as a sort of mythical figure whose virtue and achievements illuminate the ages. A true golden age finish after many plans came to fruition.

Hmm in my opinion, this novel is quite well-written and the journey is enjoyable.

I like the characters a lot, even the sides and the antagonists. It's not everyday that you see them being redeemable and eventually be added to MC's roster. There's a certain quality to his charm that see people bowing and respecting him so much just like the infrastructure MCs of his kind, but it's more prevalent here because people joined him left and right.

I haven't reach the romance aspect of this novel, but I see that the... more>> ML already respects and are grateful to him, so I imagine that although slow, we'll eventually read one of the most devoted ML ever in this site.

The only gripe I have with this novel is that it's propped too often by Deus Ex Machina. Like, MC needs water transport? Don't worry, his mother JUST happened to be someone from the water banditry bloodline. MC needs iron? Don't worry, the bandit he recruited JUST happened to be living next to the iron ore mountain. MC needs a spy? Don't worry, his quiet servant JUST happened to be ANBU Captain-material. MC needs super iron sword? Don't worry, he JUST happened to know the method of steel filling despite no mention of that knowledge ever popped up before. Bleh. <<less

This is one of my favourite infrastructure danmeis.

It's been a few years since I read it so my memory's a little foggy, but I still remember how sad I was when the novel ended since well-written infrastructure works are really rare.

This novel follows the journey of our MC who got transmigerated into a canon fodder who tortured the male lead so bad he ended up getting punished with painful execution. To turnover his fate and protect his family, MC takes advantage of his identity as the emperor's nephew to build... more>> a city of his own and navigate through the turbulent times. He is very capable and smart, bringing about huge changes to the dynasty.

ML is also very capable, never shying from a challenge and a romantist at heart. It took a while for him to warm up to MC and their romance is very slow burn considering that they are young and have pressing piorities, but it's all worth it because they are super sweet.

I saw the translator compare it to Royal Road and Ming Charity, and it does follow similar roadmaps to the two novels. This novel is a bit different in which the MC's main goal is to protect and strengthen his fief while avoiding the emperor's watchful eyes in turbulent times. There's also a larger focus on romance in the latter half as compared to other infrastructure works. I personally prefer Royal Road since the MC's personality is more to my preference and I like that there was almost no romance line there considering their dire situations. However if you prefer a novel where there is a balanced romance line with a youthful MC who values his relationship, this is it.

Like most infrastructure novels, the MC is sometimes so capable it becomes fantastical, inventing this and that, becoming god-like, and it's really a matter of preferences but if you enjoyed the above mentioned titles, you'd definitely enjoy this. (I'd also add on that if you like Strategies for the throne you might like this considering how both MCs have royal blood and the ML starts off having bad blood with them, just less intense compared to that title.)

I ended up deciding to reread this since it's been a while and it's as good as I remembered. Highly reccomended if you like capable MCs who builds a good team of leaders, paving the way to prosperity in a kingdom building setting! <<less

ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC NOVEL, where's the popularity? It kept me entertained for the whole story, not even a single boring chapter. MC is like your role model protagonist, smart, ambitious, very lovable, the one that gives you constant satisfaction for being so cool. He's also a good actor, especially when it comes to acting clueless while being five steps ahead.

The story is about a modern man transmigrating into a novel where he uses his knowledge to survive the hard times.

First few chapters I was worried that MC would continue being a... more>> cruel young master, ruthlessly hurting everyone just to keep his persona, but thankfully it didn't last long.

For reference, if you liked "Back to the beginning of Ming to do charity", then you'll like this one too.

ML is like... so my type. Not a possesive and toxic psycho, but a supportive and very loving partner. There is indeed a slowburn but trust me, it won't make the story less entertaining because of it. For me, their love was so pure, so heartfelt, not just about the physical attraction like in many stories.

If you enjoy infrastructure novels, don't hestistate to read this one! <<less
