Ruan Xi was reading a novel with a laid-back female protagonist at her own leisure. When she woke up again, she had transmigrated into the book and became the female supporting character with a good life, Ruan Xi, of whom the female protagonist envied.

In the story, the character Ruan Xi was the replacement for the engagement that had fallen through because her transmigrated, legitimate older sister, Ruan Ning had abandoned her fiancé from a rich family. Later, Ruan Xi was pampered to the heavens by her husband and became the winner in life as an imperially mandated first-rank wife to an official.

Ruan Xi, who had transmigrated over, watched as her transmigrated legitimate older sister prepared for that marriage happily. Similarly, her legitimate mother had also decided on another marriage agreement for her.

Ruan Xi: “……”

Years later, after the sister is suffering from her husband’s family, she came to Ruan Xi to see her struggling with misery. When she stood at the door of Ruan Xi’s house, she watched the cold and violent man in her previous life hold her in the palm of his hand with all kinds of wealth and love.

I thought this story would be a cute romantic slice of ancient life and it was at first. Then the pace of narrative became unbearably slow and interactions between the MC and ML reduced to minimum.

Author only showed us MC's third sister's shenanigans or other characters' problems. So this novel is more about troubles around main couple than about this couple specifically.

Despite all the disadvantages, many thanks to the translator because the artistic translation corresponds incredibly clearly to the settings of this novel. There're some name mismatches and I don't... more>> like the way that translator uses term 'illegitimate child' because a child of a concubine isn't an illegitimate child - he/she is a child-concubine ('illegitimate' is used for children out of wedlock and our MC and other concubine born characters are not). <<less

it's a cute, sweet read. The chapters aren't too long. Personally I found the undying c*ckroach of a third sister entertaining, although it's incredibly impressive how large her delusions of grandeur were.

unfortunately near the end the author got sloppy. There's a plot point that gets started but is never brought up again. Then she decides to abruptly end the story. The last chapter just barely redeems how the story ends, but I find myself wishing that "extra story" was part of the main text instead.

Wow I really enjoyed this book. My favorite characters were Ruan Xi’s mother in law and her grandmother in law. I sometimes feel like some of the characters would have an easier time if the inlaws would not meddle so much and force their spouses to take additional women into their courtyards. The female main character Ruan Xi was also very good at protecting herself which is amazing. This is definitely one of mb favourites. Thank you to the translator who worked on this.

Although the title isn like that our MC do things within her own strength to evade/punish villains. Her legitimate sister [reborn FL of the novel] is really irritating haha. Well even in real life some people are like that. ML is witty and pampers MC. Side characters are not too much 2d and gives life to the story. There are twist&turns from the original novel story to the current story. So it was a nice read of ancient romance novel with transmigrations, Rebirth etc. Our FL is intelligent and breezes... more>> thru palace/schemes ^^ <<less

I got to chapter 49 before dropping.

I think the story is well written and the main character was likable (as well as the ML, I liked that he wasn't the standard cold or domineering type).

On the other hand, it feels like the story is more sentere around the villain Sister and all her s*upid action. It is basically all about her setting herself up for failure.

It felt a bit weird that both MC and the antagonist were Transmigrator's (instead of just reincarnators). While some things make sense, I still feel... more>> that the antagonist seems a bit too s*upid and reccless to be both a reincarnators and a previous modern person while the MC seems a bit too much like a traditional person to be a modern person (she seems more like a reincarnators tbh). She is more careful and composed because she is smart and has the memories of the original body, but with the Male Lead she really seems like a bashful traditional young miss. Blushing at the smallest action. Usually I forget that she is actually a transmigrated modern person and I felt it would be more natural if she was just reborn (but I also get that thos wouldn't work with the plot if she was actually the original with memories of her last life with the other guy).

In general it was an good story that alternates between the villain making a fool out of herself and the MC and ML having sweet moment, but it also feels a bit bland with not much happening outside of that. <<less

The story formula is great so far with three female transmigrators. There are two timelines but MC only appears in second timeline. The story moves slowly and then fast forward quickly in certain parts, but I like that the MC is calm, smart, and adaptable to the era she was given a new life in.

Spoiler

The MC arrives as the down to earth FL supporting character in a novel she previously read. She appears in the second timeline of the foolish, cannon fodder transmigrator's third chance at life.

The FL cannon fodder has lived three lifetimes and current life is her third. She wasted the first new chance at life and somehow got another chance for a redo. The problem she has is that she always wants someone else's life instead of cultivating a life of her own. She has low EQ and IQ.

The last FL is innocent both timelines and unaware of the other two FLs or that there's a second timeline. Only the MC is aware of both transmigrators and has knowledge about FL cannon fodder's second life and redo. The MC is just trying to live her chance at a new life.

[collapse]

I feel a little bad for the MC's betrothed in first timeline. It implies they had a happy marriage but FL cannon fodder prevents their marriage in second timeline.

Spoiler

Surprise! There is a hidden 4th transmigrator!

It was a good story to pass time. The FL transmigrated sister is rather s*upid so her schemes just ended up being funny to me 😂 I'm glad almost everyone had the ending they deserve (good and bad)

Amazing translation.

It's feel-good story, basically, and I enjoyed it immensely.

And again, translation was superb. If it was slightly worse, I probably wouldn't read it as fast as I've read it in one sitting.

I was in love with main protagonists, such a lovely and heartwarming couple.

Plot was leaning on the more basic side but it was pleasant anyway.

I recommend it if you want some feel good, non brainer story to pass time.

Whomever the worthless author was for sure exhausted all efforts and their non existent literary talent to pretend that they can write a compeling story only to fail miserably.

This novel unfortunately belong to the waste of time category.

Overall, I enjoyed the novel. The translation was very good and the novel had its moments. It’s definitely very slice of life so expect a slow burn.

There’s multiple transmigrations and rebirths. There’s also two timelines that have occurred. Here’s an explanation of the multiple rebirths and transmigrations.

First, the original novel is a transmigration novel. The OgFL is Mu CingQi. She’s a concubine daughter of the Mu family. She’s fated to be married to the 4th prince (OgML) as a concubine. Because she’s a foodie and didn’t really care about the... more>> in fighting, the 4th prince found it comforting to stay with her. That’s how they fall in love. Her son becomes crown prince and she lives out her old age as Empress Dowager. This is the original timeline of the novel. She actually doesn’t show up much.

Second, the first timeline. Ruan Ning (3rd Ruan legitimate daughter) transmigrates to the OG story as a side character. She’s originally engaged to Qi Yue A (illegitimate 2nd son) due to a promise between their fathers. She doesn’t want this marriage and forces it on her 4th concubine sister (Ruan Xi) due to his reputation as a lazy guy who only visits brothels and has a lot of concubines. She does all kinds of sh*t to break free from her role as a side character, which lands her in the palace as the emperor’s concubine. She dies young because the emperor ordered her buried alive with him when he died. She lives a decade as a ghost so she gets to see a lot of events play out. She gets rebirthed into the same story right after she originally broke the engagement, which is our current timeline.

Third, Ruan Xi is our protagonist that we’re following in this novel. In the first timeline, she ends up married to QYA because of her sister RN. She lives out her life being loved by him after he drives away all of his concubines. He also decided to strap up and started learning seriously. He ends up being an important official later on in life. In the current timeline RX is a modern girl who had a heart condition, which she later died from. She’s isekaid into RX’s body because the OgRX had died from a cold. In this timeline, because RN had been rebirthed, she decides to keep the marriage because she had seen how QYA changed and rose up later in life. Because she’s jealous of her 4th sister for her good luck (because RX picked up a marriage she (RN) didn’t want and got a successful and loving husband) RN decides to humiliate her (RX) by having her mom propose to Wen Ting Zuo fully expecting him to refuse. In the previous timeline, WTZ was a prominent official but he never married or had any concubines so everyone suspected he was gay. To their surprise, WTZ accepts and our story kicks off from there.

An explanation about Ruan Xi because I know it confused some

Spoiler

RX has technically been isekaid into this world twice. First as a baby and then after again as a teenager. What happened was she developed a fever around 12 yo that caused her to “lose” her memories. What actually happened was she actually died and isekaid back to the modern world. This meant that the person who married QYA in the first timeline was another person entirely. And then, she got isekaid back into this world in the second timeline, where she gets engaged and married to WTZ instead.

6.8/10 kind of underwhelming? I mean it's nice to see FL and ML has a smooth relationship unlike the usual dog sh*t show in other novel but at the same time, I feel like each character doesn't get their in-depth development? the back stories of characters is so vague. Even the ending, where previously life FL is actually not this life FL is so confusing.. idk if the author trying to leave people imagining or guessing. Anyway, this novel is missing something for me...

Very nice and light reading. The Main character, 4th sister, is very likable. The transmigration twists are also nice. But, I did not get to read about the Nun who killed with face powder/blush.

I swear I've read this before. Maybe the raws? Just enough of it isn't familiar though so I keep second-guessing myself. But I wouldn't be shocked if there was more than one rebirth story where the FL starts a braised duck restaurant lol.

Anyways 3 stars. There's really no conflict so things start to get boring. Too many golden fingers.

Fantastic translation, a great male lead, and a cute relationship. The MC sails through all her troubles, mostly unbothered by all the scheming, and ends up with the perfect life. If you want to read about a woman being envied by everyone because of her good relationship, this is for you. Other than that this novel is pretty boring, the antagonist is so s*upid it's uninteresting and I never felt that the stakes were high. It's a solid story but nothing in particular stands out about it. I give it... more>> a 3.8. <<less

First and foremost: EXCELLENT translation. Explanations and accurate translations of the Chinese idioms makes this novel easy & smooth to read.

The MC is level-headed, with just a tiny tiny golden finger that was used like 1 time. 2, if you count another instance that's over in 2 paragraphs.

The romance is sweet, makes me smile. The ML is 'clean' in that he never had relations with other women. Though it's not love at first sight, it's close enough.

The antagonist which is the 3rd sis of the MC is just annoying to... more>> read. Once I found out how utterly brainless the author made her, I skipped most of her monologue, cause reading it just makes me annoyed. She's akin to a jumping clown. I get a feeling the author is maybe basing this character on the MC of other bad modern-girl-transmigrate-to-ancient-times novels. Those MCs have major golden fingers that don't make sense, then they use their golden fingers to gain attention and they go around face-slapping everyone they deem 'evil' just because they disagree with MC.
Spoiler

Makes no sense how a girl like that managed to survive so long, even with all her 'contributions'.

[collapse]

Love the fact that there's no other family drama. It's not revenge-theme, and she doesn't go around face-slapping everyone. Doesn't mean the MC allows herself to get bullied.

Spoiler

Other than that 3rd sis, most every other character who harms her get their just desserts.

Great translation. The book started out really great. Interesting premise, well written, enjoyable protags. And the book was great up until the point where the MC and ML got married. Then it all went downhill. My feeling is that the author didn't know to create plot content without using the same villain, which to me was such a missed opportunity. The villain just became tedious to read and incredibly hard to believe. The author dropped so many hints about political secrets but then never followed up, but I would have... more>> infinitely rather read about that. <<less

This is a mix of political intrigue and backyard drama. The premise is nothing new and would have been fine, if not for the completely underwhelming villains and how they are written. The main villain is so full of herself, it's laughable and annoying at the same time. This also suffers from the reckless abandonment of possible good plots (... more>>

) but I guess the writer wanted to end in a Mary Sue way and fast.

There were also some glaring loopholes towards the end of the story, and I was a little surprised that only one character was given bonus chapters at the end because the character was barely interesting at most.

This was a disappointing meh for me except for the fact that it's short enough to binge read (but it still took me a week compared to others that I lost sleep over). It may appear interesting at first, but the development and ending fell very short of my expectations and preferences. <<less

A charming, low key, slice of life feel good novel that focuses on a FL who is the verh definition of a sode character. In the best way. No drama llamas please. Excellent translation that's both atmospheric and well crafted. Thank you 😊 to the translator for their hardwork. And now, I'm off to read their second translation.

Average at best. The MC being a transmigrator is insignificant to the story. She acts and thinks like an ancient person would. Aside from her thoughts being more detailed because of her knowledge about the novel, her transmigration has no impact to the story.

The real protagonist is probably Ruan Ning, the third daughter. She's the one whose been facing a lot of struggles (mainly due to her s*upidity).

A lot of the characters are s*upid and petty. It got tiring because it was repetitive.

MC and ML has no chemistry at all.... more>> They're being praised as smart and elegant. TBH, they're overrated. MC is 14 and ML is 18. I don't have comments on their age gap because the setting is in ancient times. And it was not an outrageous difference of eight years and above like in most novels.

One thing that bothered me in the beginning is the MC being addressed as Ruan Si Niang. Niang is a term for Mother and it doesn't make sense that MC and Ruan San Niang are being addressed like this when they're not mothers. It would be more appropriate to call them Ruan Si Mei and Ruan San Mei/San Jie depending on who speaks it. <<less
