Su Xiangwan finds herself written into a period novel by her jealousy-fueled cousin, becoming the wife of regiment commander Song Qingshan.

Her husband is away serving in the military, her in-laws bully her, her natal family is unreliable, and she’s forced to sell her children to survive.

To make matters worse, the original Su Xiangwan was a hopeless romantic, tangled in an inappropriate relationship with her husband’s younger brother.

… What a tragic little housewife.

After crossing into this world, Su Xiangwan swiftly tears into her wicked mother-in-law, demands a family split, and secures the pension money.

She refuses to follow the script her cousin designed for her.

Sons with doomed futures?

Her husband is a military officer, so her sons will be raised to become military leaders.

A daughter destined to be ordinary and unremarkable?

Watch her turn her into a dazzling military icon.

As life moves along, Su Xiangwan finds it increasingly satisfying.

Her sons grow up handsome and brimming with boyfriend energy.

Her seemingly honest husband turns out to be scheming and sharp-witted—

Though he can wrap even his own mother around his little finger, he never lets his wife suffer.

The most delightful part? At night, he’s like a stoic soldier standing guard on the border, never crossing the line or bothering her in the slightest.

Su Xiangwan thinks this peaceful, stable life suits her just fine.

Until one particular night…

The comedy is minimal, the romance is just having a husband, and the real focus is on the events and characters from the original novel written by the MC's cousin. The slice-of-life aspect is strong, though.

I read for the Childcare tag, but it was underwhelming. The MC's version of childcare is mostly cooking for the kids. When they are wronged, she steps in, but after that, she lets them grow up free-range. Even her supposedly most beloved daughter was often left with the neighbor. When the kids needed parenting, she... more>> didn't really guide them—just acted normally until they figured things out on their own.

Romance-wise, it had potential in the beginning, especially with the contrast between the ML's filial piety and being a good husband. But once they moved away from the in-laws, it became lackluster. Their interactions mostly involved s*x, salary handovers, and dealing with the novel's events—nothing romantic. The ML has his good points, but he wasn't likable as a lead.

This was also difficult to read via MTL. However, the plot had direction, and it's clear the author was building something. Characters were introduced gradually, making it easier to follow the names. I also appreciated that some female antagonists weren't villainized—they were just flawed women who eventually showed they weren't all bad.

Overall, not a bad read, but not what I like. <<less
