T*ash of the Count’s Family

When I opened my eyes, I was inside a novel.

[The Birth of a Hero].

[The Birth of a Hero] was a novel focused on the adventures of the main character, Choi Han, a high school boy who was transported to a different dimension from Earth, along with the birth of the numerous heroes of the continent.

I became a part of that novel as the tr*sh of the Count’s family, the family that oversaw the territory where the first village that Choi Han visits is located.

The problem is that Choi Han becomes twisted after that village, and everyone in it, is destroyed by assassins.

The bigger problem is the fact that this s*upid tr*sh who I’ve become doesn’t know about what happened in the village and messes with Choi Han, only to get beaten to a pulp.

“…This is going to be a headache.”

I feel like something serious has happened to me.

But it was worth trying to make this my new life.

Completely underrated Novel at 4.3/5.

This novel should be at 4.9/5 for how great the writer is.

I'm too lazy to write a review so I'll just steal someone's comment.

Spoiler

I can't believe it, this story started out as a somewhat entertaining misunderstanding filled comedy for me and probably many others.

The author managed to turn it into something so much more than that through great planning and writing.

This story manages to have lots of comedy, interesting politics, crazy plot twists, ridiculous yet believable misunderstandings, a badass MC (In his on way), super adorable characters (Raon), great conversations, and some of the best action scenes.

On top of that, it's pretty fun trying to predict what the teasers have to do with the chapter.

Really goes to show you that you don't need a world ending plot creating false tension to make a story interesting, just a great writer (+translation team).

It was an interesting read and I'll probably still read it, however; I think there's just too many people causing it to have characters that are quite underdeveloped. It also doesn't make sense why the characters just start following him for seemingly no reason and if there is a reason it doesn't feel real enough. Surprisingly the plot is quite interesting and fleshed our in my opinion, though the pacing is a little awkward with all these random time skips. Overall it was an interesting read.

Update: Wow it's been awhile... more>> since I read this but I think this negative review of mine was due to not understanding the plot as well as I thought I did. The manwha has been phenomenal and the characters are most definitely well done though it may just be due to a change in medium. Still an interesting read! <<less

Super super awesome. It's my favorite for the year 2019!!! The MC is so cooollll.. he is not OP, it's not boring and funny. I love how the MC dislike "troublesome" fame and power. It's all how the MC should be. Not weak but not duper super strong either. It's so fun.. plot is check. MC is check. Characters is check. Villains is check. Villagers is check. It's not perfect but close to, so far...

Take a moment to appreciate the fact that you will be reading a novel about a transmitigator who read a novel about a transmitigator and was transported to that world, and the novel you are reading is about how he changed the story of the novel he read. Honestly it's an entertaining read.

It's an undeniably fun read. Interesting plot developments and perhaps some fun misunderstandings, but really not much in character development or world building or really depth of plot.

I would rate this novel close to 3.5. I really liked the novel, it was overall a really good story with some unique plot and a really strong start. The story, the interactions, the plot, basically everything was good for the first 50-60 chapter, I would even go so far as to say that this was one of my top 10 novels but as the story progressed the author kept repeating the same interactions between characters, the same plot, basically the same formula for almost everything. I didnt really mind... more>> it before as the concepts were still fresh, but as of now it has just become a chore to read this novel. Its really boring as you already know whats going to happen.

Its a good novel overall, I recommend people to give it a shot. <<less

It was well written. It is the same old story anyone who frequents web/light novels will recognize: Transmigrator, Borderline-Mary-Sue, No extended themes; however the creative spin on the main character's modus operandi and personality keeps you interested at least until chapter 60.

I binge read the whole thing over two days and I started getting bored at around chapter 71. The chapters prior set up the exposition well and hooks you. You speculate on origins of ancient magics, character origins, and plot directions. Past chapter 70 you start asking yourself, "what... more>> is the point of everything?" There are enough hints dropped for you to extrapolate and guess. But there is not enough world building for me to really give a damn.

Character development starts to get predictable around chapter 48, I think. You have different character archetypes, but your guess on how they'll affect the plot will probably right 90% of the time.

So do I recommend reading this? Yeah, go for it. Read until you're bored. Then stop. Everything prior to point will be a fun ride. <<less

Hmm... pretty decent start. This is basically a fast-paced Korean protagonist rise-to-power drama in a world similiar to Japanese otome-game-like setting. The closest novels in terms of "feel" to this novel would be I Am the Monarch and maybe Tales of Demons and Gods. The protagonist already knows what will happen in the future, and takes steps to avert his fate, but unlike the protagonists of other novels, all he wants is just enough power to have a peaceful life rather than to save the world. Unfortunately, it looks like... more>> fate is not going to let him enjoy such a life. Plus, although he is quite clever, he's just dense enough not to realise how much his offhand comments and actions are changing people's attitudes towards him. <<less

This is my very first novel and the best novel I read in my entire life.

Tcf is my hope and my comfort. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, reading tcf become my routine and help me with life.

I am just downright workshipping Cale at this point because you can't help but fall in love with him.

... more>> The novel has no romance, and it is found-family trope with MC and his kids (The children average 8 years old. The are much older now though.) They are so cute :>

Cale is a complex man, he faced many hardships in his past life and still suffering from overwork until now. (he needs a relaxing break, but pls don't end the novel so soon ;; I need more)

Cale is stoic and indifferent but warm and caring. He is the definition of gurdian. He is there to lead and protect his people, his family. And it is for a good reason too.

Spoiler

His biggest fear is to lose everyone precious to him because it happened to him a lot in the past life, everyone he found precious just died becaues of a certain someone :) you white raddish

[collapse]

Other charcters are likeable. But if I start talking about them too, this will become a 5 page essay, so yep. Just know that if you read it, you would never regret it. That's all I can say.

And this is a small spolier about part 2, for those who han't read yet.

Spoiler

While part 1 is about the fight between the white star and Cale, the part 2 is with more crazier groups and one cult lmao.

There are 5 hunter groups and Cale has to go to their bases and elimate them. The problem here is that their bases are in different worlds so he is crossing dimensions I guess.

Love new characters like Hevenly demon and yep Soos relationships. I am mostly reading part 2 because of them. Wanna know more about Cale past!! The current chapters is finding CJG, and rescusing CJS because he got captured and tortured by GoC cult. *How dare they, and yay more angst!* And yep Cale is very angry rn and gonna overturn their bases hehe.

You might this Cale is on the path of godhood but I disagree. He is on the path of trascendence because apparently they are stronger than gods and not bounded by names, aka attritibutes.

I mostly forgetting the details, so there is not much spolier, but recent chapters are so good!

Left a lot of secrets to reveal as well: Themes, and Cale's last ability, etc... I felt like Cale identity will not end with KRS, and might have deeper relationship with Theme family? just my thought, idk.

[collapse]

And lastly, never trust what Cale says about himself. He said he is an oradinary modern human but...

Spoiler

He lived and fighted mosters!! He also had abilities in his life as KRS, he is also a team leader. Which part of this is NORMAL?!! The author keeps the info about MC pasts and make the readers believe that he is just a normal office workers. And reveal it at the climax moment.

Have you ever thought, "Man, how come the GOOD guys never get to torture the enemy into insanity just to break them into submission"? Have you ever seen a child and thought, "That kid should be on the battlefield killing enemy combatants, not enjoying its life in safety and comfort!"? Does your entire stance on war crimes boil down to "It's only bad if it's THEM doing it"? Are you completely unable to keep track of characters unless they have a set of catchphrases they repeat over and over? And... more>> do you need to have the same detail described for you a minimum of three times over before you get it? Well, do I have the story for you!

Cale has never passed up an opportunity for torture, nor met a child he wouldn't love to set to work killing people for him. Don't worry about dem kids though, because the writer is too busy describing everything that happens three times over to be acknowledging things like trauma or long term detrimental effects on child development! Genuinely, it absolutely sends me that the writer tries to have his cake and eat it by having three of Cale's most powerful allies also be the cute series mascots. How do you refer to the magical child soldiers painting the battlefields red with blood as the "average age of 6 gang" without a hint of self-awareness about how messed up that is? C'mon now. (They later "grow up" to an average age of 9. Lol. Lmao.)

Don't expect any meaningful character development, expansion of relationships between supporting characters, or for anything to happen that doesn't involve the MC, really, because this is strictly a one-man show. Any powerups that anyone else in the party gets will only be to benefit him as well.

All the same, there are worse stories, and it's not like any of you lot has any actual standards or taste, so have at it! <<less

I adored this novel.

It had a pretty slow start, I'll admit, but the little nuggets of comedy kept me hooked until the story really heated up.

At first, I was a bit confused on why this novel was so highly recommended since what was revealed of the MC's personality doesn't immediately jump out as different from any other isekai MCs, but as the story progresses, you start to see more behind the veil of tropes that seems to cloud him from the casual reader until finally

Spoiler

he pulls out the info bomb that he was from an apocalyptic world like it didn't just explain his competence and attitude

[collapse]

The MC really likes info bombs lol, but even till now I can't tell whether it's on purpose since his own inner narration seems to imply he doesn't find anything surprising about the information he's spilling yet always manages to drop it in the most impactful moments like it was planned meticulously just to watch people's reactions.

Also I really liked the focus on non-romantic relationships. At first I was a bit on the fence because I thought the author was forcing it, but then got completely hooked when

Spoiler

the baby dragon he saved offered up his piggy bank for the MC (filled with the allowance given by the MC! What a dad!)

[collapse]

I like that the author hid things because it feels like it fits the MC's previous circumstances (which were also explained! The author didn't just give him a tragic backstory for cheap emotional investment! They built it up!
Spoiler

It's even revealed that he was originally from the world he transmigrated to but got yeeted out due to circumstances to do with the main villain of book 1, which gives him a nice reason to smack him in the back (y'know apart from the f*cker being an utter shitstain)

[collapse]

The story is also pretty good with humour, given it's being translated from it's original language and some jokes just won't translate well.

Spoiler

I really enjoyed when the MC literally smacked the main villain in the back after doing so metaphorically for the majority of the later part of the book lol

[collapse]

This story is so good I went to AO3 to find reaction fics of it, meaning I'd be willing to sit through the same lines over and over again just to see what other people make of them.

Currenly, I'm waiting for more chapters of book 2 to be released before continuing, but I'll occasionally nom on the side stories (as you can see by my reading progress), but I have heard some inkling of the plot in the second book and I'm raring to get to reading it.

Hope the author and translators will keep providing us with delicious chapters, like the baby dragon keeps providing tear-soaked apple pies to his not-dad. <<less

This novel is my favorite novel, and I definitely believe that people should give this novel a try, in order to form a opinion you should at least read over 230 chapters. Of course you don't need to but, that was the chapter when I got really invested into the novel. Anyways I love the novel, the characters and especially the MC, this novel made me laugh a lot, cry a bit, and anxious what will happen. Definitely should give it chance

This story is just worth giving a chance and not judging in advance. Once upon a time, when manhwa was just starting to come out, I decided to read a novel and soon quit because I thought the author was lazy.

After a long time, I got a spoiler and realized that those aspects that I considered part of the "laziness" were actually a part of the foundation for the future! I just judged too early, having been taught by the experience of less good novels.

Most of the claims in the... more>> reviews also relate to this type. I couldn't help but laugh while reading them, because it was all explained, the readers just didn't wait.

I also don't understand the claims about the spelling of the characters. Are we readers of the same novel? Because I don't think so. Even the characters appearing in the first chapters are already good and very catchy.

Choi Han, Ron, Bicrox, Alberu, Raon: they are all very memorable, and these are only those whom I managed to recall immediately, and besides them at that time and in the future, there are also countless characters with interesting features and prescribed backstory.

But if you are not ready to read the whole story and tolerate places where the book seems to be delayed, perhaps this story is not for you. Also, if romantic relationships are important to you, this is not for you either. <<less

if there is any novel I would label a comfort novel, it would be this one. Minor spoilers ahead <3

the writing is crude and the author relies on telling rather than showing but all of it just adds to the charm. The story is so captivating and the characters are lovable, albeit with their flaws. Every ounce of hype thrown at this novel is deserved.

although the plot itself could be called rather cliche, the way the characters go about it and the direction it goes keeps the momentum going all... more>> throughout the novel. Not once did I feel bored reading this novel and i've read it a good three times.

unlike a plethora of transmigration novels, the MC doesn't have a simple and boring past and he isn't a child. He transmigrates into the novel world with the intent of staying low and relaxing, something he's unable of doing in his previous world, though he doesn't get far. He paints this big picture of him being a lowly, scummy person even though he is anything but. Everything that cale henituse does is for the people around him, which grows steadily the longer he stays in the world (and for good reason!), no matter how many times he shoots others down for saying he's a good person with an excuse of him doing it for monetary gain.

overall, the novel is hilarious and a great mood booster. Every time I catch myself crumbling, this novel is always there to provide a good laugh and moments that warm my heart. If there is any novel I would recommend to someone who enjoys transmigration novels, it would most certainly be this one! <<less

❤🌈This story is amaziiiing 😍😍😍♡♡♡

I really can't get enough feom reading it 🤩☆

The number of count foe how many times I have read it is more than 10 times

... more>> MC is smart and has an attractive character... i've read a lot of stories about smart MCs but none of them was as reasonable as this, it will describe Mc's past little by little that you actually will connect puzzles

our MC's biggest charm is his Heart, eventhough he has been through so much but he didn't become another villain and he just gave others what he couldn't have ' materially (money and food) or spiritually (love and family) ^_^

The other characters also have their own charm such as trying their best for anything, not giving up in life or for their dreams and etc...

We also have character developement even for those who we never thought of

Another reason that this story is my favourite is that we haven't lost any precious character in any plot 🤗 I really totally hate any character dying (never ever)

Wow I foegot this, there will be a time that the story show somethings that makes your jaw drop hehe I was sometimes pretty shocked but absolutly excited *○*

The only problem and also the reason I haven't been able make my friends read it : (thd first 50 chapters not have enough excitment and because of that a lot of people lose interest before reaching the enjoyable parts of story 🤧

Everyone plz don't give up on this story and judge is after at least about 80 chapters (I know it is unreasonable but at that time at least we have 1 or 2 interesting events) ~

These days I'm even addicted to different types of fanfics of TCF that it's weird I haven't gotten tired of it even just a bit 😆

❤♡I love it ♡❤ <<less

Our MC is an interesting manipulative fellow and puts his friends and allies to work but also being protective of them. He goes around saying he is tr*sh but he is anything but

There would always be something new, surprising to unfold as the story progress.

Nevertheless, What I find most annoying is the occurrence of the phrase "It was at that moment" at any given time. Maybe it is an error in translation (Translator needs a beta) or the Author themselves wrote that way. <<less

Overall this is an enjoyable story that has many entertaining parts but also has some pacing issues that can cause frustration

In the beginning I was very annoyed by MC's selfish attitude and how it appeared MC was always terrified of putting themselves at risk in any way and would run away from any sign of conflict/battle

It got annoying and made me think this guy has no guts at all

However over time the character grows as they experience the novel and try to ensure their happy "retirement" as a good for... more>> nothing while manipulating events in the novel for the better over time.

The side characters are what kept me in the game, I really enjoyed meeting them over time and how MC developed bonds and became almost a parent nurturing everybody to live and survive. I really enjoyed the lore of the ancient powers he gets and the ancient heroes and their past that its all linked to as well as how misunderstandings pile up in the main plot about the MC over time.

The main plot is interesting and a bit unpredictable to an extent, as enemies become allies and allies turn out to be enemies, but the pacing has issues as there are times when I find some portion of the plot advancing too slowly and you just want to move ahead to figure out whats happening/why the plot is what it is. Those portions occur now and then and are frustrating but you learn to balance it.

ToCF isn't a masterpiece imo but its an enjoyable read with some issues but at its core has some enjoyable material. <<less

This novel is so addicting. At first when I saw how many chapters it had I thought I would get bored at some point because most authors become lazy toward the end and the plot just gets boring. It is seriously good. I'm the type of person to easily get bored or distracted but it is the first time I'm this devoted to a novel. The story never got boring despite being this long and the MC is really likeable. It is my first time seeing this kind of MC. Seriously, he is so unique. And all the side characters are also very interesting and the relationship between everyone in this novel is idk really wonderful. Every relationship Cale has is purely platonic (I'm not a fan of... more>> romance, so I really appreciated this) and they are like a big family. I have read until the end and is still waiting for the next part.

I understand the negative reviews since it was really slow at first and most people get lazy during the early chapters and quit reading, I was too like that. But for me, it does get better and better, and the plot and the characters are really my cup of tea, maybe that was why I really enjoyed it. <<less

The protagonist will just randomly keep going somewhere and doing things because he knows stuff from the future you don't. Which is nice in the beginning but will get tiresome after you realise it's just the same thing repeating again and again and then it gets boring and tiresome.
